So, I read a lovely review and decided to try it out for myself. I'd gone in to Braintree to get some shoes fixed so had my dog with me. Looks lovely. Opening line - "we aren't meant to have dogs here". Sub text get out with your dog. They do know that 'Love me, live my dog' runs true. So you don't my custom. I'll be accommodating. I'll sit outside. Coffee and cake ordered and paid for. Then nothing. I'm not in a rush. But nothing. We'll apart from the little boy on the next table playing with the dog. He's very friendly. Eventually, coffee and cake. Biscoff and banana cake was nice and tasty. Coffee was a standard latte - nice and hot - good job give we had to sit outside. View isn't quite the best and the ambience is zero. If you have a dog and want a friendly welcoming place for a coffee then don't come here. If you don't want people with dogs just put up a sign - we hate dog owners - that will solve it straight away.

I work locally and visit Something Scrummy a few times a week. Sometimes for lunch or breakfast and other times just a delicious cake! Many people have commented that this is the nicest cafe in Braintree. And I have to agree! The environment within the cafe is calm, fresh and bright. The food is lovely and the staff are always happy.

Went to the cafe as part of a group of 12 visiting Braintree Museum. The cost of our visit included tea and refreshments in the cafe. When we arrived mid afternoon we found tables had been reserved for us. A waiter came and took our order for tea or coffee and told us that a selection of cakes would be put out on the table for us to share. As I avoid sweet things I asked if I could have a cheese scone instead (I had seen them on the counter). I was told no unless I wanted to pay for it separately, as it wasn’t part of our “package “. Service was very slow, considering that apart from us 12 only one other table was occupied (with a person on their own). The tea arrived - just cup a with a tea bag in it which had obviously sat for some time as there was scum on top. Had to ask for spoons and milk to be brought. By then my over brewed tea was undrinkable. The cakes, which arrived well after the tea, consisted of either a chocolate brownie or caramel slice, which some said were far too sweet. All in all a disappointing visit to Scrummy which I’m not encouraged to recommend to anyone.

The yolk of my poached egg, a trickle of golden spring sunshine, runs across my plate combining the delectable contents - a lightly toasted muffin, crispy bacon and sliced avocado, all decorated with a pinch of chopped chives. I have been waiting for an excuse to come to Braintree since last month when I was treated to the same dish and it doesn’t disappoint. Combined with the undeniably pleasant surroundings and friendliest of staff, I cannot think of a more rewarding way to spend my time or money.

Thought I would pop into the fairly new Scrummys Coffee Shop in Braintree Museum Manor Street to see the inside & get a takeaway coffee. Thought it was very nice cosy welcoming & nicely decorated. Ideal place to meet friends for coffee & chat. Coffee was lovely & really nice & hot as I like it. The cakes bread pudding scones look appetising. I met a friend this week for a coffee inside also their first visit & was equally impressed. Ladies are very nice & smiley also they do a loyalty stamp card for your hot drinks! Be back soon 👍

We visited the town cafe in the old Manor Street school complex that is now the museum and what can I say, what a breath of fresh air in Braintree. At last a decent little cafe that offers great coffee, cakes and simple sandwiches with an ambient atmosphere to relax. None of the boring fat filled rubbish and noise from other eateries that is on offer nowadays in the town. Staff are fantastic, attentative and very polite. I highly recommend Scrummy and both me and the missus have agreed its our go to coffee stop and a bite to eat. I'm 100% for supporting local businesses too. Let's hope it succeeds as its location can easily be missed.

We've visited this lovely cafe which is next door to the museum several times, they also have a shop selling takeaway food in Coggeshall Road. Food is very reasonably priced, great quality and a great variety. Lovely interior, lovely friendly attentive staff. We must have been in there 5 times in the past few weeks, for drinks or lunch or on one occasion breakfast. They serve gf vegetarian and vegan options. Highly recommend this lovely cafe, so nice to see a new business open in Braintree, I wish them all the success.

Ordering a sandwich to take away it was fresh and very tasty. Tea was hot. Must parking is limited as well about the area. The main area is Sainsbury's good spot for a quick snack to take away.

Yeh, but a different coffee outlet with fantastic cakes and super filled sandwiches. Also, very friendly service. Unfortunately a little out of the way but the positive here is that only aficionados of good coffee will search it out.

great sandwiches, lots of filling. My husband has a dietary problem that means he cannot absorb fats. The staff went out of their way to produce a delicious sandwich. They also do amazing skinny latte. Lovely, helpful, polite staff. Will definitely pop in again.

Well I'm being a little cynical about the shear number of coffee shops in Braintree - the town is not THAT big but it seems hard to walk more than 30 seconds in any direction before another coffee shop appears. But this outlet does offer the chance to avoid a big name chain store with industrial processed cakes and drone staff training, thus this is a fresh option for the cake hungry people within Braintree resident or simply passing through. I'm not sure the idea of seating outside it that welcoming - they can not control the proximity of the road nor the slow passing cars watching those eating as the humped zebra crossing ensures a slow-motion audience. I do wish they might seek some guidance on brushing up their web-site, given the nature of the internet in small business they really could hit above their weight - I'd be happy to offer guidance for free (SEO is not my business) but if they read this review they have the chance. Carrot cake was great - not too much icing, coffee was OK but needed sugar to balance the flavour. Good prices and nice to avoid the oppressive chain stores.

Where do I start? Unfortunately, there was so much wrong with our breakfasts. The fried eggs were hard at the bottom and only a tiny bit soft on top on all 7 eggs, the bacon was hard, because it was overcooked and possibly reheated, ( it was stiff ). The sausages were also overcooked. The black pudding was as thick as the bacon and, in my opinion, an insult. We will not be going back, thats why we didn't complain there and then.

We had a wonderful roast dinner with our family of 9. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing. We had starters, main and dessert, pork belly was a great choice, everyone loved their mains and the Oreo Cheesecake was definitely a winner for the children. Thank you again for your hospitality and laughter. We will see you again very soon.
