Friendliest pub I’ve ever been to!.. discovered this pub whilst staying in Haven and didn’t bother going to any other pubs the whole time we were here. All the staff (Tina especially) and the landlords Steve and Rick, really made us feel welcome and treated us as locals. Great atmosphere- the bar staff will play any songs you want on the Jule box- you just ask and as I said earlier, they are a really friendly bunch. As are the customers .. all happy to chat to you!.. cannot fault the place.. and really cheap drinks too!

Visited the this pub this evening and I must say absolutely phenomenal. The young girl behind the bar with a pen in her hair was brilliant, even tho there were issues outside with a fight and the man who was on the bar was helping outside. The girl was working so hard to keep up with customers aswell as dancing and keeping her head strong despite what was happening outside. I felt bad for her at one point as she was so busy and one customer was very inpatient but she dealt with it in a calm and professional manor, she was brilliant and a credit to you. We had a brilliant night despite the problems outside which were also resolved accordingly. We will definitely be back.

I wish I'd of read the reviews before we went! If you're a local you get priority - waited 20mins at the bar to be served even when locals came in after us! Barmaid was miserable and not very welcoming either, at one point she was too busy eating her lunch at the bar to serve. The food was nothing special, however I did feel for the cook as he was in the kitchen on his own, however maybe if he didnt keep going outside with locals for cigarettes he might of had a more productive shift! If I'd of known he was the cook when I walked in I wouldn't of eaten - he was wearing no chefs clothes and spent most of the time out the front smoking - which really put me off! Surely any professional establishment wouldnt allow their staff to be at the front of the building socialising and smoking whilst customers are waiting for food! The other gentleman walking around the place was so rude and disrespectful to customers, we witnessed him embarrass and raise his voice to a lady who was a PAYING customer and who wanted to use the toilets, he told her aggressively that toilets were for paying customers and she would have to use the toilets on the seafront. Even after finding out she was a customer he never apologised to her, just walked off. His attitude was vile and I nearly got involved as I really felt for the poor lady in question, being embarrassed infront of everyone. The place is shocking, maybe if staff spent more time working on their attitude, customer service, cleanliness of the place and realising that they are actually at work and not having a jolly then it would do a whole lot better!!!

So on 9th june i went out with friends to celebrate a birthday. I wrote a review " potty mouthed racist" which i revoked following a decision to go to the police to discuss my complaint. I also felt that the pub would have the opportunity to apolgise, decide not to employ the band again. Etc. Both the band and the employees chose to deny the incident which included the band leader suggesting that n should return to africa. When i asked for an apology on the mike, so u clearly all heard, he simply said that is how be feels. This is not acceptable and shame on all who stood by and said nothing. Rated terrible.

We called in here as a family after having a nice evening meal a few doors down, wish we hadn’t we had to wait agree to be served it seemed to be regulars and locals first then it was a free for all. Two of our party had white wines but both stated immediately it was sharp and tasted like cheap plonk so we had to buy a glass of lemonade to try and sweeten it up. There was a Friday night disco going on which was turned up to level 11 so it was impossible to try and have a conversation, we are not party poopers but it was way over the top. There was a dodgy atmosphere in her which made us feel on edge waiting for something to kick off overall we could not wait to finish our drinks and move on to a more civilised pub, we will never return to this pub nor recommend it.

Popped in here on a Saturday night (6/1/18) I was out with my friends and we thought we would pop in here for a drink walked through the door and the smell of the men's toilets was awful. We all quickly used the ladies toilet well we wish we hadn't the middle toilet was out of use the toilet to the left was blocked and the toilet to the right the lock was broken. So my friend went to the bar to explain the state of the toilets and the girl that was behind the bar just shrugged her shoulders and said oh well it's been like that for ages. The smell from the men's you could smell around the whole pub so we decided let's go and spend our money somewhere else.

Unfortunately there are no very good pubs in Burnham where you can get a really good meal. This is probably the best, staff are always pleasant, food not bad, parking excellent. Bearing in mind this is a managed pub for a large brewery chain it is well run. Could only improve if it was family owned by good business minded people as it was more than 10 years ago.

I live in burnham and thought I would visit this pub. I used to go in here many years ago and it was always friendly and welcoming. Oh my how it has changed!!! Not for the better!! On arrival we were greeted by male bouncers always polite although one of the female bouncers has been rude to me before. We are a group of 4 middle age women just out for a few drinks. We turn up just as the doormen were stopping people going in. But they let us in. We found a table and sat down. I went up to the bar. We only wanted a few bags of crisps and snacks. So I start ordering them. I bought about 5 bags of nuts crisps etc. The lady serving us was polite and helpful. A man came up behind her maybe a manager?? He stood and listened to my request whilst the lady served me. Then he came towards me and said "oh great, we let you in late and all you want to buy are a few snacks for a few pence, you could atleast order a drink??" To which I reply do we have to buy a drink then?? He replied "well you should yes" I replied," well I could always go and buy my snacks somewhere else??" He just grinned and walked off. He was very rude, and disrespectful and it really upset me. A few manners wouldn't go amiss. Unfortunately I didn't get his name. My final visit to this pub will be to read his name badge and add it to my review. I will never be going there again thanks to him.

Me and my friends came here after a lovely meal out at La Vela a few doors up. They had live music which was good but the place was full of unfriendly locals who you had to squeeze past while they stared and loudly commented on each person individually whether they "would or not". Already feeling uncomfortable we stood by the bar to get a drink and the bolshy locals continuously pushed in (the bar lady was fine with this). I love the pub, love the location, it's got huge potential but as most will agree, you cannot operate a successful pub with beer alone, it takes food to compliment the income and to drive customers into the venue and this is where it lets itself down£9 for a Sunday carvery isn't cheap and is more expensive then other venues nearby, food was served on cold plates (no prizes for guessing what happens to hot food when put on cold plates) and as for the gravy, it had the consistency of tap water, we heard others complaining that the food was cold only to be told 'Sorry about that' from the staff.Any self respecting chef would not service food on cold plates so this suggests they employ cooks without the skills needed to drive the food side of the business. We visited 3 times during our most recent stay so it was not a one-off, though the beers are fine, you need more from your local pub and sadly this is where it let itself down with our Sunday carvery the final straw, we gave it a go, we are disappointed in how it has changed and we hope things improve for our next visit but we do not expect to see much change

We arrived with high expectations of this lovely pub having visited numerous times in the past, sadly on this occasion we arrived to find the pub being wound down. The tenants had left and they were waiting for new tenants to take over so they only had what they had and they would not be ordering any new stock until the pub changed hands.Must be said, under what is clearly distressing circumstances for the staff we still had a lovely meal (burger) on our first visit, and what beers they had was served well with staff moral high.We arrived 2 days later hoping for a few drinks to find they had sold out of lager and beer and only had spirits left to sell which clearly meant the pub would close due to lack of beers.Indeed 2hrs later and the doors were shut and the lights turned offI love this pub, I love its location, it's layout I only hope they new tenants can return this into the greatness it deserves. I hope the new tenants take over in the very near future and that it returns to serving great pints and great food.

It was a hot day and there were a lot of people outside drinking so we thought that it must be a nice place to stop on entering it looked like it needed a bit of a makeover. The bar staff were plesent enough so we ordered food and sat at two tables by the kitchen. The floor looked like it could do with a good clean and the tables grubby. When the food arrived we asked for some tomato sauce and tartar for the scampi. When they came with the sauces it came in a little shot plastic container but litter. Not enough sauce for 2 chips. The waitress was very grumpy and should not be working with the public with the attitude she had. The food was OK but not great. Wouldn't go back.

This a busy pub set in the town centre of Burnham. There are a few tables outside which are quite pleasant to sit at on a nice day. The staff here are welcoming and friendly, I can’t comment on the food served here as we didn’t have any. This a rather old pub which could perhaps do with a makeover decoration wise but it does have a certain unique element in its presentation. Unfortunately there are a few bad points to this pub, the price of the drinks is high, it is in serious need of being cleaned (perhaps the cleaner had been off on the day we visited) as there were a lot of dog hairs and food over the carpet area and the tables were sticky. The gent’s toilets were disgusting and in need of serious attention cleaning wise at the least. Can’t comment on the ladies toilets as we didn’t use them.If you’re looking for a pub where you can grab a quick drink, take your dog in, or play a game of pool then it’s worth a visit but only if you don’t mind things not being the most hygienic and you don’t mind you’re more “traditional” style of pub.

From the outside the pub looked quite smart but upon entering, the interior was very grubby and in need of serious redecoration. We were served by a woman who was covered in tattoos and was a bit short on manners. The other staff member behind the bar was wearing a t-shirt that would have benefited from a good wash. Lots of seating inside with and as a pool table. The staff are friendly and can multitask so being served was super quick. Toilets fair condition as the floor was very wet when I went in. This pub is terrible. There is no water in the ladies' loos which is nothing short of vile. This has apparently been the case since BEFORE CHRISTMAS!!! I was appalled that I was unable to wash my hands. This sinks are grubby and only a small bottle of hand sanitiser was available as if this was a third world country. I appreciate plumbing can fail but it should be sorted before 3 months is up. Not nice to think the bar staff will be going to the loo and not washing hands before serving food and drinks. Disgrace. The carpets are sticky and you can feel small pieces of glass underfoot wherever you step. I quickly got off the carpet and was worried my dog would get glass stuck in his paw. The food was lovely and the bar staff seemed very friendly and apologetic for the state that the pub was in.I would not come here again and even the local regulars agreed that the pub was run down, health and safety standards were low and that the landlords were clearly not putting any effort into keeping the pub satisfactory before they sell it on. It is poor to hear locals talk so badly about their own local. I think this pub has potential to be great if it was kept up to scratch and you didn't feel like you had walked into a slum.

Popped into the Somerset & Dorset for a spot of lunch with friends. I have to say we all came away very disappointed with the quality of our meals. Two of us had Hunters Chicken, now when we've had this in the past, its come wrapped in bacon, covered with cheese & BBQ sauce. Ours had the chicken & that was about it. My wife ordered chilli con carne, when that arrived we can honestly say there was about 2 spoonfuls of rice, oh I forgot to say there was no sour cream with the nachos. The person who brought out the meals went and got another portion of rice for my wife, so at least she now had 4 spoonfuls! Not sure if the lack of quality was because we had the 2 meals for £12 deal, but I don't suppose we'll ever find out because I'll be a very long time before we go back again.

Chicken was not very hot, and peas were in fact nearer cold. Gammon was over cooked at ends but fine elsewhere, egg a bit over too. Would rather go cheaper or more expensive elsewhere to eat. Will be back again for a pint.

Great staff, really friendly and welcoming reasonable bar prices. Always room for a bit of a dance to a singer, disco or karaoke. Its open late which is a god send if you dont want to go to another larger town. Always a good crowd of people there to have a drink and a laugh with. Getting a taxi home can be a bit of a mission, take a good pair of flat shoes in case you need to walk home.

This place is lovely. Really nicely decorated ( love the brick wallpaper so much am now searching for some for myself ) Late lunch visit , good atmosphere, lovely staff friendly happy to help and efficient. Spotless tables and the whole pub was super clean. Really good value food, a little bit different and cheap. Loved the pulled pork. Keep it up you're great.

Wandered in late Saturday afternoon with wife and daughter for a light bite and a rehydrate. The service was absolutely first class. The bar staff were charming, witty without overdoing it, courteous and just... right. Beer was good.Fantastic deal on tomato juice. Had a couple of pints of that and some ale. Different glasses. The "deal meals" were a bit lightweight, quantity wise, but not objectionably so. Probably adequate for sensible people. The food was perfect and we were well looked after throughout our stay.. thanks for the extra sauces and such like. Nothing was too much trouble.Really enjoyed the visit. Wanted to come back for the live music later but was unable to get back for reasons outside the scope of this review. Will check that side of it out some time in future.Recommended. Highly recommended.

My husband and I live locally, and we decided to give the Somerset and Dorset another try, having been there once before a couple of years ago and been very disappointed with the slow service and loud music blasting out. This time the decor has been given a makeover and looks very nice, but still the loud music was battering our ears. We asked for it to be turned down a little, but our request was ignored. We ordered our meal and drinks and then sat waiting patiently for the food to turn up, baring in mind that there were very few people eating at the time, so we had expected it to turn up quite quickly. 30 minutes later my husband decided to check on the whereabouts of our meal, only to discover that the meal had not been ordered, despite our paying for it half an hour previously. We were persuaded to stay and told that it would only be 5 minutes and it would be worth the wait. Well, true to word, we were then served with our Sunday lunch very quickly with full apologies from our very sweet waitress. The roast beef and gravy was absolutely delicious, so tender and plenty of it, but a little let down by the overcooked veg, cabbage, carrots and a rather strange and runny leek dish, with. cold and burnt yorkshire pudding. Plates too small for the amount of food, if I'm being really picky!! Improve on these things Somerset and Dorset and we'll give you an excellent rating, as the beef really was first class!

My fiancé my daughter and I popped in as we were staying at the nearby haven holiday site, looking at the menus it sounded really inviting so we decided on the chilli dog for myself and my fiancé and the child's cheese linguine for my little girl, although when we asked we was sat down and brought menus but when I went to the bar the guy told me the kitchen was closed I said them why was we sat down and told we could order not a good start. Anyway we did order and when the food arrived it was nice but very small portions for the money which was over £25 including drinks we was left disappointed and still hungry afterwards. I would pop in for a snack on passing in the future but not a main evening meal

The pub is nice and in a good location. They serve a decent pint. We chose this place though because of the 'home cooked food' sign outside. The food though didn't live up to our expectations. The menu looks good but they didn't have a lot of it available. The food when it eventually arrived was poor. They do children's meals but don't offer knives for them as they are too sharp, but the meals needed knives to cut through as it was quite tough. The adults fish and chips were so salty and the chips awful and I don't agree that pre packed frozen chips can be classed as home cooked. Overall nice place for a drink but maybe eat elsewhere

We have lived in Burnham for 3 years, but never ventured to the Somerset & Dorset as it never looked that good from the outside. Seeing they had a new Smokehouse menu and the pub had been refurbished, we ventured along a few weeks ago with our 3yr old. The menu has lots of choice, and at a reasonable price. The interior was welcoming and comfortable. I had half bbq smoked chicken and my husband had steak. Both our meals were faultless. My son had the mac n cheese and enjoyed it. This is a nice change from the usual places we go, with the added bonus of serving food all day so we can have an early dinner or late lunch. The only thing I'd change is the paper that the food sits on. Your meal is served on a metal tray with smokehouse paper on top, then your food on top. It looks great, but the paper gets soggy under the weight of the food and starts shredding into pieces with your meal! I don't want to eat paper!! That is really the only criticism though. Looking forward to going back.

A group of six of us went for a work night out and had a lovely time. The pulled pork sandwiches were amazing as was my bovine swine burger with the best onion rings I've ever had. One person ordered the Mississippi prawns which was a bumper serving in shell and cooked to perfection. We were too full for pudding but the cinnabuns are meant to be amazing. Very impressed the sauces are all hand made. What really topped off the night was the brilliant service. The barman wore a Stetson, called us all ma'am and couldn't do enough bringing our drinks quickly and advising on the many different flavours of cider. A really fun night.

The roast beef in this pub is one of the best I have ever tasted and the other roasts we had were also great however the kitchen just could not seem to cope with the orders and although with a group, some of our party had their meals within 20 mins and the rest of us waited for 1 hr 15mins. The waitress did not seem like she would cope and was left alone a lot to deal with many grumpy customers. We felt bad for her. Another group behind us waited so long for sandwiches that they left without eating and I got the feeling that this is a regular occurrence. It is a real shame because the quality of the food was brilliant and had they been more organised we would definitely have returned.

Absolutely love this place it just keeps getting better and better! In the area for a quick stop off en route to Hereford. Went in for my favourite, the Canadian burger to find they no longer do it and the place has been turned in to an American BBQ smokehouse WOW the new menu is stunning and well thought out I had the 'bovine swine' burger - home made burger with 14 hour slow smoked pulled pork wow, clearly my new fave! Definitely recommend, hats off to them for continually improving the place and and the staff for making our experience, Debbie was fantastic!!!

Called in for a bite to eat one lunchtime with friends. Whilst the staff were friendly the service was poor. Whilst being served they tried to serve two to three people at a time which resulted in them forgetting my drink (i only ordered one as well)The food took 20-30 minutes to arrives which is perfectly acceptable for freshly cooked but I had a gammon steak I couldn't cut let alone chew. Shame really as this place could be a real asset for Burnham in a prime location.

Been to this pub prior to the refit twice. On both occasions the food was excellent, although the decor was a little to be desiredWent in today at about 1230 and asked for two pork and apple burgers, they only had beefburgers!! My wife choose a pulled pork baguette, and I choose a cheeseburger. Went for my beer choice, and had run out of the first two options. The meal came out, what a disappointment. The burger was just that!! No relish or salad, a burger in a brioche bun. My wife's was equally dissapointing, a lukewarm warm soggy baguette, and the chips were spiced which I got exchangedI asked the lady behind the bar where the salad was? All she said was they are re branding the menu in JulyNo good to me in june

If you want a beer or two this is the place to come. If you want food, unless you can wait 45 mins don't bother. Sunday lunch, ran out after approx 15 servings? and when a customer asked for desert was told there was none. We left after ordering 3 fish n chips and waited nearly an hr. I then rang the sister pub to complain as I actually like this one, no one around. No surprise there then.Sack the manager as he has no idea and will put you out of business or the food is not important and carry on.

Arrived for a family dinner, there was only one member of staff on so had to wait a long time to get served. Eventually another member of staff started his shift. The food that everyone have was really nice, their was a lovely touch with onion and bacon wrapped in cabbage that really tasted good.I ordered a well done beef but my only issue was it was medium so only had a small amount.Verdict: would go again but reinforce the order to the staff member

Shared a rack of Louisiana ribs between four of us with fries and coleslaw and it was amazing. Beautifully cooked. Went back a few days later for a bovine swine...hand made burger with BBQ pulled pork on top. Freshly made and absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. Lovely pub with a nice atmosphere too.

Although this pub is local to me I haven't visited for a while. The refurbishment has been carried out well and to a modern design. The bar staff are very professional and the place was packed on Saturday night, not sure if this is usual or just because of the live band playing (the fantastic Six Machine). So if you haven't been for a while check it as I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Popped in to try some food as I heard they had a new chef. I must say i wasnt disappointed. By far the best burger I have ever had. homemade i believe and the pulled pork that was liberally applied to the top. I have been to a number of Burger places around the west country and its up there with the very best right now.I heard that there are lots of exciting additions to the menu surrounding this type of food. i for one cannot wait to try what surprises this new chef has up his or her sleeve. The atmosphere was also great as usual and the bar and waiting staff attentive and chatty. I love what they have done with the decor recently too!

Heard there was a new chef so thought we would pop in and give the food a go. Was blown away by the atmosphere and team. Place was spotlessly clean, greeted by a young gentleman called David who I think is the manager he was very attentive. Ordered a burger and roast beef expecting traditional pub cuisine by far is this standard cuisine. The burger which I was told later was homemade has to be the best burger I've tasted, my husband said why can't you cook the beef and carrots this way. (Not sure what they do to carrots but he keeps talking about this) I know where I'll be dining in future. One not to miss. Thank you for the experience.

Great place for coffee and cake. The homemade sponge cakes are delicious and served by friendly staff. Recommend this shop for quality and service.
