My husband and I went for Sunday lunch but of the three meats available on the menu only beef was available. I don't eat red meat and had to choose a chicken burger which was nice but not what I went for. Others on the day were having the same problem. Even my choice of dessert wasn't available. Won't be back as staff weren't very helpful.

Great experience here for breakfast, especially the service received from Angela. It's nice to see such a helpful, kind and compassionate staff member always bringing service with a smile! Thank you again.

Been there many times before to get two main meal for 11 pounds and 99 penny. It use to be two meal for 10 pounds before the pandemic. The portions are in a good size. Good and fast service.

We stayed at the premier inn for 3 days and we ate at the restaurant many times. There were tons of vegetarian options, which was great. Angela was our server and she was so sweet and attentive to what we needed.

It was alright, nothing special. Service wasn't very fast.

Booked for 26th April for 1pm , got drinks after short wait , then later was asked if having starters they came 2pm ish main meal 2.35pm mixed grill was over cooked sausages burnt the whole meal sent back the other was supposed to be medium was med /well. Chicken and pulled ham pies the bases not cooked the meal cost between £250- £300 . 6 people in the party was ill with sickness through to the early morning ,said they had a new chef won't be back once bitten twice shy and I'm too nice to complain much but had to write this because it made people ill .

Brilliant place to eat, wide variety of food and drinks, pleasant staff and an ideally situated for Dumfries and the A75.

Conveniently located next door to the Premier Inn. The children's area was a little bit grubby. The menu has a lot of choice. The children's portions are a good size. Therese was very welcoming and helpful. The food was filling and good value for money.

Unfortunately, the entire visit was very underwhelming. We were seated quickly, however, our drinks took so long they were served at a very similar time to the starters. Starters: The nachos and buffalo chicken wings were okay; it was just a shame that no extra napkins were provided despite finger food being served. Main courses: The double cheese burger was deemed ok, average but not great. The fish pie was recommended as the battered fish and chips had run out. The fish pie was, surprisingly, very good, with a very generous portion of prawns, salmon and monkfish. The ordered onion rings were delivered 10 mins late. The interior was very disappointing, with a deep clean needed (see photo of very old pea on window sill). Very difficult to recommend.

Really friendly staff made up for a shocking meal. Burnt burger bun, dry burger and my wife had one of the smallest and fatty piece of gammon I've ever seen. Shame because the place is nice enough and the waitress tried her best

Staff were lovely , shame about food. Plates from5 adults, 4 were sent back, insipid and limp chips and soggy batter resulted. No one asked if food was okay, how on earth do they monitor if food is hot enough. Will not be back

Went here for breakfast this week. Nice welcome and staff helpful but the actual breakfast is poor quality food and no healthy options. There was a bowl with some oranges, but the rest is low grade. The sausages didn’t even have a colour to them. The continental breakfast is lacking in items you might expect to find - so no cheeses or cold meats, no tomatoes or even nice bread rolls. The place itself is tired and needs a deep clean. It is what it is, but with other options nearby, it’s not a recommendation.

We had visited the previously as a large family so we accrued several vouchers for meals with the loyalty scheme, the first night the manager was working, every thing was fine but the second night was a disaster, we ordered the food which took about an hour and a half to be fully served, there was about 10 of us , 2 meals came out after about 20 minutes, but the wrong order , I approached the bar area several times to enquire on the food, to the end it just became a joke, the duty manager a young lady just said what could she do , she then blamed our party for not booking a table , ?!?! Don’t know why that was relevant, she then blamed us again for using the loyalty vouchers, another young lady tried to resolve the situation by offering a sweat or hot beverages, then another young lady chipped in by saying she was only 17 and didn’t get paid to resolve issues like this, I explained at NO point was any agressive or bad language used to which she said the fact I’d complained at the bar was not right, or something in that manor , I do think that the young 17 year old and the cook should keep there relationship behind closed doors, as it’s not professional kissing behind the bar and in from of customers, the food did eventually come out cold but by this time all faith was lost in the table table Dumfries, we visited Dumfries several times a year and this place will not be visited again, please if anyone from whitbreads wants to contact me please do so,

What a great place. Food good and the service second to none. Nothing was too much trouble. We had breakfast this morning and dinner last night. Great prices and great food. We will be back

Popped in for breakfast after the school run, absolutely 10/10. Absolutely needed on a cold winters day! Food cooked to perfection! Staff friendly and attentive!

Previous reviews mentioned that people weren't impressed but we would have to disagree. Family of 4 staying at Premier Inn next door, popped in for food the first night- service was good and friendly, food was good for the price, blue light discount was 25% off the food and not the whole bill. Second night popped in for a drink, little bit busy with it being NYE but still got served by 2 friendly people. Friendly towards our two children aswell. I just think from previous reviews they are under staffed when it is busy and are trying their best with the staff they have got.

Breakfast was cold didn't get what I ordered never again went to this place years ago for evening meal wasn't happy with it so decided to give it another go but I will never step foot in this place again

Husband booked online, arrived to be told that they didn't have a booking and no spare tables but they then sat us at a table and there were plenty of spare tables the whole evening. Took 20 mins to get each round of drinks. Still waiting on the mayo I asked for when the meal came out and asked for again halfway through the meal. Drinks were warm. Service was slow. Could understand if they were busy. Had to go to the bar to pay the bill after 15 minutes of waiting for it, they said they'd take 25% off the bill, worked it out after and they took about £7 off not 25%. Not worth it in my opinion.

Disappointing breakfast. Advertised as unlimited but you have to order what you want but I assume you could order again if you wanted more. Good idea I thought, food being cooked to order means less food waste. While we were waiting for our cooked breakfast I visited the continental where there was one muffin left and no pastries so I just made the toast. When our food arrived the mushroom and tomato were missing and the food we did receive was just about warm. It certainly had the feel of food that had been sat there and not cooked fresh. It turned out they'd run out of mushrooms and tomatoes but we wasn't informed of that and I can only assume the same happened with the continental. The food wasn't awful in fact the bacon was lovely so we ate up and left.

Usually a quick friendly service but waiter walk past table twice . Waited 20 minutes, no-one came to take our order so we left . Very disappointed

The food was nice but having a member of staff talk to paying customers like rubbish is a joke all because of a miscommunication which had they of come and spoke to us like adults about would have have been resolved definitely do not recommend and WILL NOT be returning

First time at this place and what can I say? It was empty they had to check if we could be have a table and then when we ordered drink it took 30 mins to come out and was wrong, I asked if they had Budwiser which they said yes we do and got a cider which we didnt ask for and was then told they dont do Budwiser and I ask for a whisky sour which they had to come over to me and ask me how to make one which is the easiest drink to make The food took 30 mins to come out and was just warm but we was all hungry and tried and then when we paid and had one last drink before we left , the lad who made them only did 3 when we ordered 4 and he tried to say no we didn't and said we was rude and complicated about the staff who served us which we didnt, he was being a ahole to us when there was no reason to I will never be going there again

Lovely meal, made even better by Sophie’s service! She was smiley, bubbily, knew what the craic was with the menu and selection of drinks. So helpful!

25/11/23 - Senior member of staff had a shocking attitude taking our orders, rude, sarcastic, dismissive. Items on the festive menu were inedible. Staff no training on table or customer service. Plates never cleared, left without dessert because it took too long.

Called in for lunch very friendly superb food. Fully recommend

The food was absolutely amazing! Me and my boyfriend had a 2 course meal. The device was fast, the food hot and absolutely delicious. The main was big, definitely worth the money. Had to ask for a wee container to go. Definitely recommend. Wanted pudding as it looked good too, but I had no room left 😔

The staff are so lovely and friendly. We love coming here, very cosy and homely and excellent customer service always without exception 🤗

Warm and welcoming place till you speak to the staff. I have never felt so rushed in a pub/restaurant in my life like today. Got to the table and before we had even sat down we were asked for our drinks order. We quickly decided and then ended up waiting between 10-15mins for them to come. We then gave our simple food order of two DIFFERENT burgers. Food arrived very quick and we had one wrong burger. Taken away and replaced in about 5 minutes (seems very quick for food to come out without it being pre-prepared, nethertheless the food was really yummy) Once the plates were being taken away, again straight away asked if we wanted a dessert. I understand the staff have a job to do but do not please rush your customers as its such a lovely warm and comfy place to relax and we definitely didn't feel that. All I got was a quick apology for the staff members mistake of the wrong meal which meant my husband nearly finished his meal when I got mine. We were served by Chloe and Katrina and the I'm guessing manager in a white top on the day who removed the wrong meal and bought one back. Very disappointing for customers who are here on holiday to enjoy a nice meal. This needs to change to make that place perfect!

Exactly what you expect. A family friendly restaurant with pub type food. Staff were very attentive and food was good, not Michelin star but tasty. Good parking. Fantastic prices

Nearly an hour wait for an awful roast pre sliced package beef tasteless veg frozen roast potatoes hard pigs in blankets wouldn't return again.

Stopped on a Saturday evening for dinner. Nice place and the food was spot on. Worth a trip.

If you want good service, book a table and order from Deliveroo. The moped will arrive and you’ll have eaten and gone before the restaurant notice. (Don’t do that..it’s rude) But easily the worst service I’ve ever experienced and I’ve had the misfortune to visit some rubbish places in my day. Two and a half hours for two courses. 4 of the 14 dishes had to be sent back as they were cold or wrong. Yes there were 8 of us but we had booked in advance. Still, the company was good and we did laugh! And we were offered a discount to be fair.

Dropped in for a drink at about 8pm. Positives: Stella was fine. Bar lady was polite Negatives: Place was quiet yet I had to walk around trying to find a table that was not soiled with dinner plates or glasses. Staff were standing around, no one cleaned up for the hour I was there. Other customers were also walking around looking for clean tables. Disgusting. I had to walk to the other side of the bar to pay for some reason, which was the same inconvenience for subsequent customers. I was going to eat here as I was staying at the inn next door but was put off by the recent poor reviews. I can now see why. I'm glad I ate somewhere else. Not the way to run a business. Huge scope for improvement.

Here visiting on holiday, came here for dinner and the food was amazing, served a family of 7, was served by Anna who made everything so much better, such a bubbly, friendly and very inviting woman. Will definitely be back the next time we visit.

A group us stayed at Premier Inn Dumfries for a big Party and most of us booked breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, Unfortunately the food was inedible, uncooked chicken breast, cold and uncooked ribs, cold fries to boot. Chicken and mushroom pie looked like its just been defrosted and not even warmed up, cold mashed potatoes too. Some of our group did not receive their food all even after waiting for over 2 hours. We were refunded the food cost but that is not the point, we resorted to ordering take out delivery from McDOnalds and Dominoes as we were left hungry? Breakfast is no better either , so sad... Staff were friendly and apologetic but they should employ QUALIFED Kitchen staff?

Food absolutely rubbish, sausage and mash with a spoonful of mash, lasagne that was burnt to a crisp. Never again

Terrible experience. We waited 2 hours for our food and when it arrived, the food was cold and awful in appearance. The manager refunded our money but by 9 pm we hadn't eaten. We ended up ordering MacDonalds. This place needs sorting out or shutting down.

Had the beef pie, chips and peas, disappointed with chip and pea portion size and the pie pastry was a tad burnt. Caramel apple betty desert also not good, small, flat and microwaved.

Myself and son love coming here.. Staff are always lovely and welcoming - Angela in particular! Food is always great with plenty to choose from and very reasonably priced with great membership discounts.

Ate here as staying at the neighbouring premier inn. Breakfast was usual premier inn so not complaints there apart from there were flies everywhere!! The evening meal we had was terrible, we waited ages to order then it was a long time before drinks came. When main courses finally arrived it was clear they’d forgotten the kids meals. We’d finished eating when the kids finally got their food and there was no apology just a comment that the kitchen now hated the waitress…??!! Why because she’d forgotten or they had?! Awful service.

The service for a larger group of people was slow. They lost our order and waited over an hour and a half for our food. There were Flys flying around everywhere. The prices were reasonable. Some of the staff were nice and tried to make the best of mistakes. However one of the managers was not customer service friendly at all.

The staff were bright and friendly in the morning. Angela in particular was really helpful and made sure everything was s as it should be.

Just had a lovely meal ,beautifully cooked and served by pleasant staff,I would recommend it to anyone.

We recently had a long weekend in Dumfries and decided to have diner at The Solway Gate. What a pleasant place. The staff were friendly and also it is dog friendly so we were able to take our Chi in with us. The menu was good and the food served up to us was also good. The place is well signposted but it is hidden behind some trees. Would recommend this place for a quick bite.

Didn't enjoy our visit. Breakfast area not filled. Drinks area empty, milk for cereal was empty also. Women hoovering whilst we are eating our breakfast. Not very pleasant can't here each other talking past the hoover. Lighting is so dull and lamp shades are all bent. Just wasn't great. 1 ladies service with the blonde hair was brilliant the other not so great.

Won't be eating here again ordered the Sunday roast with no veg thought if I went large I would get more meat and added unlimited roast potatoes plate came out with everything on it and a tiny bit of meat roast potatoes were rotten didn't order any more even though I went for unlimited

Bar service was very poor, no moretti or stella on tap, pumps broken, no spiced rum even though they took the payment for it and then proceeded to tell me the manager would deal with me but was busy , just give me a substitute drink eh ? Food was ok , but we won't be back ever , waste of £65

This place offers great food for the best deals . Had their 2 mains for 10 pounds offer and also their dinner offers , which was amazing food for the deal. Loved the pie , steak , wings and especially the desserts . The ambience is also good.Will definitely recommend this place.

Alright with friendly staff. Not too busy. A few dishes came late / got lost on the way, but the staff were nice about it. Fish and chips was huge, which was great, but the burgers and lasagne didn't compare. They do good deals for the summer holidays though!

What you see is what you get. Perfectly decent fare (2 mains for £10) although, due to lack of ingredient (batter wasn't delivered!) we didn't get our original choice

Asked for a Sunday dinner ? Turned up an hour later cold and microwaved roast potatoes. One of us asked for a roast beef dinner with just roast potatoes and gravy and they brought it out full of veg and poorly cooked meal and a kilted sausage that came straight out of a crematorium. And we said ohh one was with no veg the server looked like a human question mark . Bewildered at a request of no veg ??? . How can you ruin a Sunday roast ??? Obviously they can . Please avoid at all costs and Honestly buy a pot noodle it's tastier .

I could smell the dirty grill off my burger. No coleslaw and when I asked about it was told I would get 50p off my bill. I didn’t. Coleslaw was £1.39 per portion I ordered 2. Wife had some chicken thing looked like the contents of a wains nappy. And was dry. Neither of us ate our meal. And the still charged us nearly £40. Stay away from this place and just go to McDonald’s.

Not the best experience . I ordered the mega stack burger . When it arrived the burger bun wasn’t a brioche bun , it was a rock hard wholemeal burger bun . It was if it had been put in the micro wave . I over heard they had run out of burger buns after I had ordered mine , so I can only think that they got a bun from the freezer and defrosted it In the microwave but over done it . So I sent it back and had to order something else , the rest of the family had finished there meals by the time my meal arrived. Not the best experience going out for a family meal , had to eat mine separately . Not had any issues in the past in here , but for a chef to send out a burger like that will make me think hard about returning .

Nice food last year and a year on what's happened The attitude when we came through the door oh there's 5 of yous I might be able to squash u in and lots of other tables free Ordered scampi think they got it mixed up with a kids portion And when we went to get a drink at the bar it was a huff and puff of of face ake yes u know what one That will be the one that told the other server to move The over all experience was bad and will not be back for all the tea and China in the world

Breakfast was ok but, was very poorly presented. Sausages looked overcooked, scrambled egg was hard and looked powdery in the middle. Can honestly say that we have had a lot better, would think twice about booking here again.

Waiter's and waitress were excellent, very helpful. The breakfast was great quick services and very nice. Everything was nice and clean from tables being empty and every wore the correct ppe when dealing with food! 😍 Also loving the new loyalty card!

Two meals for £10.99 displayed on board outside front door but not available.Quite a few items on menus not available. Burger in kids meal was overcooked, hard and inedible for a child to eat. Very small portions despite charging full price. Some customers didn't stay.

Food average - look as if things are heat in kitchen rather than freshly prepared. Last 2 meals, peri peri chicken and sweet potato curry, both been bland - curry didn't even have the amount of poppadoms stated on menu.

Decided to stop by while on the road. Visiting from abroad and all I wanted was a quick meal. The food was good and I really enjoyed my time here. Great staff and a great experience to say the least! Don’t let the naysayers throw you off! May I say, I’ll be stopping by again when I pass through here in a few days!

We booked a table online for 10.15am for the all you can eat breakfast. We arrived to half of the cooked breakfast missing. No black pudding, no eggs, 4 has browns, no bacon. We waited and more bacon came out and beans but that was eat. When asked if there was more coning out we got told no the kitchen have started to clear down as breakfast stops at 10.30am. Totally understand that but we should not have been allowed to book breakfast for 10.15am, only to have 15 minutes to have breakfast and to have little choice of what was left. After a complaint they agreed to give me a refund as we paid for all you can eat but could not do so.
