Sofra Turkish Grill in Wakefield

Food was amazing and the service (mainly by the male employees - because they were a lot more smiley & seemed to want to be there) was great too. Slightly too loud too hear people even say just across the table from you but it's an absolute must for a visit.

First time here and it was really enjoyable , my lamb was cooked to perfection , the Greek sausage and tzatziki and bread starter's also lovely , would definitely go again .

I ordered the vegetarian gouvec and besides the fact that the food came very hot, sizzling, the vegetables: eggplant, broccoli, green beans were overcooked and the potatoes tasted almost spoiled. The cutlery was dirty. Dessert: The baclava was days old Maximum disappointment. Too expensive for the quality of food offered. The staff was friendly.

I come here whenever I am in Wakefield for work. Can highly recommend it. Service is good, the food is excellent. I've had several of their kebabs and they are all great. Good portions and come with a portion of rice and a small amount of salad. I often get an extra salad on the side and the ingredients are always crisp and fresh. If you have a dessert you should go for the baclava. The pistachio sauce on it is great. Enjoyed every visit.

First visit on Saturday with my wife and we’ll definitely be back! We started with the how sharing platter for two then had mixed kebab and mixed grill - delicious. I was honestly expecting it to be dead quiet at 17:30 on a Saturday afternoon but the place was still busy and continued to fill up while we were there. Loads of parking options close-by and bars around. Very reasonable prices, definitely recommended!!

Our first time here and the food is amazing very good food as well as top service from the many staff who were all ways at hand . We will definitely be returning.

Been to Sofra Turkish Restaurant for the 3rd time first experience wasn't great but tried again and found that each visit the experience got better, went last night the food was fantastic the service was excellent and they had Turkish dancers which made for a very entertaining night.

Been here quite a few times. Staff are always friendly and helpful and the food has always been delicious

1st visit here for a family birthday meal. Totally loved it and will definitely return. The squid starter was amazing. The sharing platter exceptional and all the food delicious ❤

Wonderful Turkish meal. We had the hot/cold sharer meze starter which was excellent. Flavours were amazing and everything was quality. For main I had the chicken shish which was delicious, as was the chicken dish with sauce my husband had. Would definitely recommend and will definitely come again.

Very tasty Turkish food. Although only chicken and lamb are on the menu, all the meat and vegetables are cooked on fire. Although I am not a fan of lamb because of the specific smell, this meat was cooked very tasty. Will definitely go there with my wife again. One more thing. When paying out, the service charge is included in the total. We ordered food for £78 but with the service charge included, the total came to £86. Anyway, the food is really good. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant. I recommend it to everyone

The service was excellent, we had falafel starters and mixed grill for main. It's a great charcoal grill restaurant for everyone to enjoy.

Great food, so fresh and amazing service, would 100% go back . Value for money is fantastic and portion sizes are massive . The server fatty bum bum was the best .

First time eating this food. Very over priced for very small portions. Food tasted so average, 2 out of 10 and im being generous. Lots of money for very little food.

We have been to Sofra many times and mainly had nice food. We always get the sharing platter which is very good, although the lamb can be a bit hit and miss in terms of toughness/fattyness sometimes. The food is always really tasty.. The platter used to come with a pot of Tjatziki, although after the recent price rise this has been removed and you now have to buy a portion of it for £5.50! Which I think is outrageous. Also got charged around £8 service charge, which we’ve never been charged before. So although it’s nice food it seems Sofra are now pricing people out of going and we will be moving on to other restaurants in the area now.

we've been putting off trying this place for a few years now , walked past and not liked the look of it. What can we say , the place had a fantastic atmosphere, a really good vibe. The waiters were friendly and efficient, and the food came quickly . We had mixed hot starters and then mixed kebabs , very impressed with the quality of the food especially the meat , we were stuffed so no room for dessert. Will definitely be returning

Our second visit to Sofra, it's quickly become one of our favourite places to eat. The food is wonderful, the service is fabulous, the charming Fatih served us both times. Would definitely recommend!

Great atmosphere but very pricey. I ordered the mix grill which came with one lamb chop, one shish kebab, 4 pieces of chicken and 4 pieces of what I think was pork. For just short of £19.00! I understand that nothing is cheap anymore and the quality was ok but there was lack of quantity and I left still feeling hungry. I think it's slightly overpriced. There was 4 of us eating and 1 of the group received their meal after 3 of us had nearly finished so we refused to pay the £15 service charge. Nice, but better places about for the money.

Had take out. The most amazing, delicious meal we’ve had out in a while. Definitely a favourite on our list for future. We had the mixed Shish meal.

Was there tonight 17/5 with my son and two grandchildren celebrating his birthday. What a gem this place is food absolutely amazing staff very attentive can’t do enough for you and what a great atmosphere definitely going back and highly recommend it.

The food and service was fantastic as usual. We have been many times and never had anything to complain about. Big portions so expect to leave with a full tummy.

Disappointed, food was ok but nothing special and quite expensive . I had the mixed mezze platter starter which on the menu said included kofta, but when it arrived wasn’t there. I asked and they said oh the menu is wrong! Having been 15% of advertised contents they should have reduced price by 15%! Certainly not worth the £13.95 they charged. When bill came I noticed an additional 10% “service charge” added. Surely this isn’t legal unless they make it clear on the menu? Watch out for this and ask to pay just the food price. The meals are expensive enough without sticking another 10% on. Drinks very expensive - £9.95 for a single JD! Maybe average prices for a capital city or resort, but not for Wakey! Won’t be returning

My recent visit to Sofra Turkish Grill in Wakefield left me with mixed feelings, primarily due to the stark contrast between the quality of the food and the abysmal level of service. While the culinary delights certainly impressed, the overall dining experience was marred by frustrating instances of neglect and incompetence from the staff. Let's start with the positive: the food. Sofra excels in delivering authentic Turkish cuisine that tantalizes the taste buds and transports diners to the bustling streets of Istanbul. From succulent kebabs to flavorful mezes, each dish was a testament to the chef's skill and dedication to tradition. The rich aromas and vibrant flavors undoubtedly made for a memorable gastronomic journey. However, the same cannot be said for the service, which fell disappointingly short of expectations. Upon arrival, my party and I were initially ignored by the bartender for an uncomfortable five minutes before begrudgingly receiving attention. Despite repeated requests, we never received the basic amenity of water for the table, a simple yet essential element of any dining experience. The service blunders continued as our main meals arrived without cutlery or serviettes, forcing us to awkwardly flag down a server and endure another considerable wait before basic utensils were provided. Our orders for drinks from the bar went unfulfilled, adding further frustration to an already exasperating situation. we endured an hour and half without drinks despite numerous requests To exacerbate matters, the inclusion of a 10% service charge on the bill felt unjustifiable given the dismal level of service received. Refusing to pay this fee, we were met with tacit agreement from our waitress, who sympathized with our plight, citing understaffing as the root cause of the service shortcomings. Seeking resolution, we requested to speak with the manager regarding our grievances, only to be met with disappointment once again as our summons went unanswered, leaving us feeling neglected and unheard. In conclusion, while the food at Sofra Turkish Grill undeniably shines, the same cannot be said for the service, which regrettably detracts from the overall dining experience. Until significant improvements are made in staffing and service quality, I regrettably cannot recommend Sofra as a dining destination.

Rip Off. 4 of us went Sunday evening. Totally bill came go £191......over £17 of which was a 10% service charge! Not acceptable at all. Not advertised anywhere. Taking into account the extra rip off added 10% it makes the drinks very very expensive. (nearly £6.50 for a pint of lager) Won't be returning.... Ever.

I visited here for the first time for my birthday. The food was lovely. Only thing is the price of the kids meals were very pricy for what it was, I’d of thought they would have got a small bowl of free ice-cream or something to make the price justifiable. But as I said the food was gorgeous

Very disappointed with our experience tonight. On entering, we tried to order drinks with one member of staff, who accepted the order and told us a price. A while later, the drinks were brought by another server who told us the prices were wrong and we will have to pay extra, up front, plus service charge. This might have been forgettable, but then when we tried to pay our main bill at the end of the night, they would not accept the gift certificate which we had been told was valid for 6 months (we have been using the gift certificates for years and have been told always that they are valid for 6 months. Despite this, the staff told us that it's only a 3 month voucher, and they will only honour half the price. So over charged twice in the same meal! We were really looking forward to sofra tonight, as we have been a few times, but we will not be returning again.

Unbelievable food. We have walked past and wanted to eat here for ages. Wow I'm so glad we came. Best food in Wakefield hands down. Servive was top notch and well priced. We will be back 100%.

This was our second time here first trip was for a birthday second was our anniversary meal, not only was the food amazing especially the sharing board, but our waiter fatih did a great job at making the night perfect with his top class service and great humour, definitely planning our next meal here.

Fazih was amazing host. Food was fresh and delicious. Expecially the sharing platter grill and our Mezze starter. Baklava with ice cream for desert just melts in your mouth. The best way to finish. We will be back again.

Good food in comfortable restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere. Helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staff will talk you through the menu and offer suggestions as to choices. The garlic mushrooms were out of this world.

We had first time and will be last time in this restaurant dinner only food can recommend is delicious. So first we sitting where is atmosphere is not good where is room with only one table i ask the guy he said there is not table other side :( Big problem for as was we are ordered Sharing platters for 4 and we got for 2 big mistake somewhere but idk where. When bring girl she said platter for 2 and we said we ordered for 4 and she said yea yea is for 4. After then i ask the guy who take order this platter for 2 or for 4 he go to ask kitchen think and when come back he said it platter is small for 2 but food is for 4 lol. I checked reviews and photos on here and what i see platters for 4 is more bigger and more food from ours. I can count and write here what exactly we got small amount i know is platter for 2 100% sure. Not happy at all never back again. We usually going to Doncaster/Lalezar and just want to try some different that's all.

1st visit to Sofra, booked well in advance to try and get a nice positioned table as celebrating joint birthdays. Arrived, then sat on a small table designed for 2 covers, yet 3 settings were laid out, right next to the bar and on the route to the restrooms. The menu has plenty of choice, and opted for the vegetarian moussakka & sharing platter for 2, accompanied with 2 Turkish bread. No starters ordered. We also ordered drinks consisting of a jug of still water & 2 pints of coke zero. Food arrived in due course, all piping hot, well presented and tasting very good. This was when it was clearly identified that the table was way too small for 3 adults, plates, glasses, jug, sharing platter, 2 bread baskets etc. We all enjoyed the meal, the atmosphere, ambience and overall experience left us somewhat underwhelmed. Doesn't help when you end up with rice down the back of your clothes from passing server's with food with no apology offered. When presented with the bill, Sofra applies a cheeky 10% service charge, yet no where is it advertised, published or printed on to make you aware of this. It is the customers choice to determine the level of tip if one is warrented, and not the RIGHT OF MANAGEMENT TO DICTATE. 3 main meals with only soft drinks and bread basket, total bill just shy of £80, not good value for money. Plenty of other places to visit in Wakefield, so we won't be returning.

Food was delicious and plenty of it . We arrived at 5.15 it opened at 4.30 . We found the temperature in the restaurant was rather chilly ,so we kept our coats on. !! .Service was speedy and efficient.

Loved our evening, staff were amazing, we felt relaxed and not hurried in our evening. Starters were Garlic creamy mushrooms Calamari Spicey sausage Accompanied with fresh bread. Mains Sharing platter Steak Mixed grill All beautifully presented and flavoursome. We were told they was a belly dancer between 7pm to 7.30pm but it may not be every Saturday evening. Thank you once again to the whole team at Sofras, we will be returning.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the staff who worked on New Years Eve. The restaurant was very busy and yet all the staff were amazing (waiters and in the kitchen). We had lovely food and the belly dancer was a nice touch for the evening. Wishing you all the very best for 2024.

This was a Christmas present from my Son and his Partner and one of the best food experiences I have enjoyed in Wakefield. Everything was spot on the food the staff the atmosphere in fact a terrific night out. We shall definitely return and I would recommend to anyone.

This is our 3rd visit here and it never dissapoints.beautful inside the resturant and toilets are spotless. Staff are all so friendly always asking if you OK and want anything .didn't have a starter because I knew I would be stuffed with the free bread and dips. We both had the mixed grill it was delicious came out stuffed lol

Nice place but FAR FAR TOO EXPENSIVE I paid £17.95 for a mixed grill & it turned up, I thought it was a starter 😳 a asked for chips & a small handful was all I got, this place needs to rethink it prices, iv been to Turkey 🇹🇷 & the portions there are much much bigger, so it must be a case that us Brits must think that portions here are acceptable, NO this place should knock down there prices by at least 30%, I could go get a starter for less than these prices.. Won’t be going again 😡👎🏼

This place is amazing with gorgeous food. I visited with my husband and 2 friends. We got the hot meze sharing platter for 4 and extra garlic prawns. Everything was so delicious and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend it and will definitely be visiting again 5* from me.

Delicious food at a reasonable price. I recommend booking in advance for weekend visits as it gets quite busy. Brilliant service and great atmosphere.

I visited with my best friend and we were happy we did. The restaurant it's nicely decorated and spacious it has alot of tables and a big menu. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated in a little table for 2, the restaurant was very busy and loud but that was due to the customers not the restaurant. The menu had lots to choose from and they do have a specials board too. We ordered cocktails and they were amazing and had to try a few different ones and loved them all. The food was such good quality, freshly made and tasty and you received good portions. The price is for food and drinks is on the higher end but its definitely worth it. I would definitely go back there and I would recommend eating here and have recommended it to friends and family

We had a lovely meal at the Sofra. The food was great. It was all very fresh and so well cooked and presented. We had a pistachio baklava with ice cream for dessert as recommended by the staff. It was worthy of the recommendation. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We can highly recommend a visit, you won't be disappinted.

Seen offer for 2 for £18.95 Mon - Thurs only to get there order food and after got charged full price nearly £60 for 2 adult mixed grill and kidmeal plus 2 x cokes and water. When I asked got told thats our price and you gotta pay. The staff ok, salads not fresh. Definitely won't be returning as the atmosphere is poor. There's better restaurants for the price we paid.

The taste was awesome and service was perfect but the amount of food was totally low , small portion of chips small piece of chicken and meat or only one small piece of bread on Skender kebab. Honestly it made me disappointed when I saw the dishes were totally small

We have been here a few times now and we can't recommend this place enough. Amazing food from starters mains and desert amazing! The service was fantastic they all made sure everyone was happy and enjoying their night. We will certainly be eating here many more times in the future.

We booked for 4:30, just as it opened and got the pick of where to sit. 2 of us had halloumi starters and there was loads! Was delicious and could have eaten it all night! We got chicken sizzler for main and it was still sizzling, served with veg and rice. We also had fish for a main, trout or bream, can’t remember! This too was gorgeous and served with rice, veg and potatoes. Couldn’t manage a pud, we were stuffed! The menu is huge so will definitely be back! Really great food and great service, thank you all xx

Went here for Lunch and the food was good. I wasn’t blown away by anything in particular but it’s just a good spot to grab something to eat and enjoy a meal. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was pretty quiet during my visit so seems like a good spot to relax at. I wouldn’t say there was anything wrong nor anything outstanding either. A good spot.

A Turkish delight in Wakefield. The food is authentic, the service is great. A wide range of dishes available. I opted for a sharing platter which was a generous and varied selection of traditional Turkish food. Others in my group ordered mixed shish and that was also excellent. We booked a table. Apparently we’d have needed to : very busy, restaurant was full when we left. It’s got an authentic feel to the place.

I ordered a large chicken kebab .. to take away, they put it on a disposable plate to take away, but the plate was bigger than the food, when I got home, I ate it was a spool of kebab .. and cold food, it looks like they took something inside the kitchen yesterday and they will serve it to me.. I don't recommend anyone to eat there

Husbands 50th birthday and he’s always said he wanted to try Sofra so we went as a last minute things. I can definitely say it will not be our last visit! He had the Turkish sausage starter and is keener chicken kebab and it’s was beautiful! I had a mixed grill which was just beautiful. The staff are lovely and make you feel like you’ve known them your entire life. Not the cheapest place but absolutely worth every penny! We will be back soon!

This place was recommended to us by friends who have been… after reading the reviews on here I was unsure but we went for it Just to be clear they didn’t add on a service charge as mentioned in previous reviews (2 of us were dining) We booked for 6.15 and arrived early at 6 and was seated straight away… actually had our food by 6.15. We opted for the sharing plank, decided not to do starters as we wanted to head out to a few bars after and not have eaten too much. The sharing platter was good…. Gave us the option to try lots of different meats/ although I would say some didn’t have a lot of meat to them but still tasty. On reflection my partner could have had a starter as didn’t quite feel full. Drinks- we both ordered a cocktail… my partner ordered a pina colada which he didn’t think had any alcohol in it, but he really like it. On getting the bill he had been given the mock tail version which wasn’t a problem but make sure you ask as this was listed on the menu but we were looking at the specials board and didn’t notice the mock tail section until after. Staff were really friendly and attentive Service really quick… in fact that quick we were done in 30 mins but like I say we had the sharing platter which was an easy order for them Worth booking this was a Friday evening at 6pm and people were been turned away due to reservations We would return again and try something different next time

We were hungry & had originally planned on a Sunday dinner but the place we went to was rammed & kids running around everywhere so we left, we drove around & spotted this place so thought why not, well it’s actually like being on holiday, it was quiet but the atmosphere was still nice & vibrant with quirky decorations Turkish music playing and a very open kitchen, We ordered a sharing platter that came with 2 different rices, wraps , home made bread, salad, meat selections & roasted veg for less than £40, it was lovely the only downside was my husband would of liked the wraps separate instead of everything on it because he would of made a mini wrap with a few things loaded in it, The upladed photo doesn’t do the place justice , I am a clean freak & although I didn’t use the toilets to judge because clean toilets clean kit Usually, there was a guy there cleaning around the kitchen and he moved absolutely everything nothing got missed we will definitely go back
