Had to travel through an antique shop up flights of stairs but this gem was hidden at the top. Opposite harry ramsdens on the corner. It is easy to walk past. Gluten free coeliac friendly cakes - I had choc and banana and it was melt in the middle ecstasy. Could also have things like chips - we all know in the community how just a portion of safe chips is everything. Prices are so cheap too. They definitely underprice themselves I felt. Also knowledge of local area for great food options :)

Bookmark, follow, do what you need to do in order to remember this place when you visit Dorset/Swanage. We bumbled around the town of Swanage, there's plenty of interesting shops, making for some pleasant retail therapy. I had Google searched 'Gluten Free places to eat in Swanage' prior to our trip and had created an itinerary of places to eat out. Cafés with Gluten free cakes, restaurants with options and a pub with some wheat free grub. I could cover breakfast, lunch and dinner if needed so I was pretty chuffed on the drive down. Only, when we got there the places saved were closed 😔 despite saving the google adverted opening times. Ah well. ... Perhaps I should have checked their individual websites... Anyway. To our saviour, in many more ways than one, were the family run Smugglers Cove Cafe. Noticing a little hand written note amongst a sea of A Boards stating 'Gluten Free and Vegan Food', we thought... Win! A quaint little family run Café is nested above and amongst a sea of antiquities. Scurrying past the pirates hoard will lead you to the true treasures of this quirky set up. Greeted with a smile and welcome, we took our seats in the bay window. We were passed the menu and to my delight, written in bold on the front: 'All of our food is gluten free'. At first, a savoury wrap caught my attention, but was drawn with mouth open wide to the waffles! I later discovered the flatbreads for the wraps were home made. If we weren't on such a short break I'd have definitely returned. For the food, personalities too. I devoured those waffles with chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, chocolate dip and warm maple syrup. All vegan too. Crispy, fluffy and sweet. Exactly what (only three days earlier) I'd been asking for. I wouldn't have known they were free-from and vegan. Honestly. I just want to put a big sign outside saying, 'the first fully free-from place to eat in Swanage' Having a partner who recently finished a 2 year stint as a barista, (which supposedly served the best coffee in Malvern) I was a little disappointed with my soya mocha. Main complaint, is was enormous! Personally, I would have liked mine a fair bit shorter. Less water/milk. I like it rich 😊 The disappointment of the drink was not enough to taint the quality of their baking and attentive service though. Whilst paying for our delicious brunch, we were offered a slice of just baked Dorset Apple Cake. Best £2 I've ever spent. Cash only by the way - there's a cashpoint outside. We were somewhat well behaved and at least waited until we got back to our cabin to dig in. Still warm, spiced, soft and chewy. Reminded us of malt loaf. Loved it. Just my kind of texture. The candied fruit inside was divine. So yea, whether you take away or dine in... Make sure to follow your feet down to the Smugglers Cove Café.

Very strange, but one of our finds of our visit, do not be put off by going upstairs to this cafe, very difficult to get to the cafe part, .with out spending on great items. Now to the meal,All home cooked I had cottage pie with gravy to die for. My wife had baked potato’s with cheese, cooked to perfection. All the ladies very happy and helpful.

Popped in here for a "eat out to help out" discounted lunch. Very strange setting - you have to walk through several rooms and up some stairs of an "antique" shop to get there. But once you're in you have a view of the sea. Friendly staff and quick service. Very dog friendly; we brought our little boy and they even gave him a chewie stick. I had the cream tea, which was great: a large (china) pot of tea with china teacup, two fresh and hot sultana scones, some very fruity strawberry jam and freshly whipped (not clotted) cream. My wife had a slice of tasty victoria sponge cake and a very nice latte, our eldest had lemon drizzle cake and the youngest had cheesy chips and an excellent banana milkshake. All incredibly reasonable; an absolute steal when dining on a Tuesday in August! Only things stopping the 5* rating are the chips (they were basic frozen chips that were deep fried on demand) and the whipped instead of clotted cream. Minor quibbles really, so I'd definitely recommend this place.

We came across this delightful restaurant by accident whilst looking for somewhere to have lunch. We were not disappointed. It is at the top of a very interesting Antique Shop and run by two very lovely ladies. It is very inexpensive and the food freshly prepared and lovingly presented. I have no hesitation in recommending this unique find.

Run by lovely ladies who understand the importance of gluten free cooking and other dietary requirements. Great traditional homemade style gluten free chips, vegetable curry and homemade gluten free coffee cake. Yum and very reasonable price.

I called in for Sunday lunch and had a Roast Beef Dinner and pot of tea, all for £6.50. The food was very tasty though obviously pre-purchased and heated on site. The café is in a small area upstairs in a collectibles shop. Well worth a visit.

Went to check out this hidden gem as there had been some negative comments from people that hadn't bothered to try it. Had the roast dinner, fruit crumble, strawberry milk shake and a coffee all for £10. Staff were lovely. I don't know anywhere that you get a mug of coffee for a pound! I will be back it's a great place

After a lovely sunny walk we ended up at the Square & Compass. We had an ale and mulled cider with a steak pasty and a chicken leek and bacon pie. Service was quick and the staff were polite and friendly. We sat in one of the snugs. The whole place is a living museum and you step back in time once you cross the threshold. Service is through a hatch in line with the entrance, it became very congested very quickly with only a few people being present. Not so easy to navigate once you add a tray with drinks and food on it.

We have sampled the food and hospitality at The Barn several times in the past, today, however, was the first Afternoon Tea we have tried there. From a warm welcome to our departure the service was excellent. Friendly and efficient. The afternoon tea was delicious, tasty sandwiches and rolls, lovely fresh warm, scones, very yummy brownies, cupcakes and banana cake, all helped down with a refreshing cup of Barn Brew Tea. Thank you.

We were recommended to come here, it’s small limited seating- we’re lucky to get a seat by the window. Good quality, freshly cooked, no nonsense breakfast. What’s not to like.
