In a town that is pretty runs down, this place is a little diamond in the rough. The service was fantastic (small request to change a meal which was dealt with really well). Staff great and friendly with our kids. Food was excellent and the portions very generous. Would highly recommend this place to eat.

Very annoying today. Went into Smorgers for lunch. The first three tables after the door are for people with dogs. Two of those were taken by people without dogs and the third was a tiny tiny table with a sofa so you couldn't eat without bending over. We had to sit there. When I went to the loo, the rest of the restaurant was practically empty! Non dog people had all of those tables to choose but sat at the dog tables. However, I blame the restaurant for not having a sign asking people to leave those tables if possible for dog owners with dogs. I got terrible indigestion from bending over to eat, my husband had to keep taking breaks to sit up straight and we had to put everything else including the teapot on the floor as the table was so tiny. 😖 Food was nice but it wasn't comfortable, staff nice. A little sign asking non-dog people to populate the numerous other tables would be incentive for us to come back again whereas at the moment we are a bit reluctant.

This was the worse wee cafe - the Rock bun was a stale, these cheese scone too salty and the tea too strong. The service was slow with zero personality. I got the impression it was a place for locals proven when out Scottish note was refused at the counter. Won’t be back - couldn’t recommend. So much for United Kingdom… 🤦♀️

Quite surprised to have paid the best part of £8 for a sandwich and have no garnish, little pile of crisps etc on the side. Haven't visited Smorgers in a few years and to be honest although the food was tasty, having waited 40 mins for a sandwich I doubt I'll return. Not very family friendly although this seems to be the patrons, most of the staff were okay.

I have an allergy to cucumbers that informed the server about when ordering food. My food came out with cucumber on the plate, leaving me unable to eat the food as it had cucumber in the roll and on the salad. Basically I ended up having the partners plough mans with the salad removed, which left a slice of bread, pickles and cheese and a slice of pear and apple. It was pointed out that my meal would have to be recooked and it was nearly closing time. I was charged for the meal that I couldn’t eat, not even had any amount deducted from the bill. Usually we tip well, but not this time as this restaurant tried to poison me

We dropped in for a coffee and tea cake. Tea cakes lovely, large and buttery. They don't seem to have it right on the drinks front though, hunny had a cappuccino which he said was ok but the chocolate on top was too thick. My drink was unpleasant. I had a chai latte but what they gave me was a normal tea bag in frothy milk with some cinnamon sprinkled on the top, that it not a chai latte so was disappointed for the price.

My colleague and I went to Smorgers for lunch, we decided to eat in - as we had come to St Austell for work for a few days. We ordered our food which was very quick and speedy. However we were a little hit by the pricing, £9.50 each for a lunchtime sandwich and can of Diet Coke, is a little steep, however the food was nice - one slight criticism is the bread, the image of the bistro suggests freshly made sandwiches - which they were but you kind of suspect it will come with freshly baked bread or rolls, unfortunately the sandwiches are offered with two types of bread, both of which are from a packet - which lets the side down massively. I would recommend George’s on Trinity Street, they are reasonable and have freshly cut bread for sandwiches. But thanks to Smorgers for an ok lunch, but pleased we found George’s from day 2.

We've been customers of Smorger's for years, since they were the deli and through to the now-Bistro. We have always been very happy indeed with the quality and range of the food. We've eaten in & had takeaways - and fully satisfied either way. Everything always seem fresh and tasty & knowing how good they are, we've felt encouraged to try things we wouldn't necessarily risk elsewhere. The cakes are truly the best ever, from anywhere. We've seen several members of staff and the current team are very good indeed with a thoughtful measure of friendliness, professionalism & respect. Really can't fault them - I even rather like the background music! He seemed to keep all the staff going! our food was a little longer than expected but we were told of a slight so we understood, (we both had the veg tarts!) I'll admit to a certain bias here. This is probably my favourite place to eat lunch in South East Cornwall. A family run restaurant at the West end of the pedestrianised shopping street in St Austell. Food and drink ranges from a simple coffee and a cake up to sandwiches, light bites, hot or cold lunch with wine or beer and it doubles as a Tapas bar on Thursday and Friday evenings. The venue is very unassuming from the outside. Clean and well laid out within. It can look a bit 'old fashioned', but that's fine. It isn't really and it all adds to the ambience. The staff are friendly and helpful and the owners work in the kitchen and behind the servery. Sandwiches are generous, the meat or vegetable platter with bread is a fantastic lunch and hot food including Chilli, sausage and chips for a 6 year old and salmon goujons have all been excellent. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere and clientele ranges from parents with small children to teenagers and young couples through to the blue rinse set! There really is something for everyone here. Lastly and for me the real clincher, the piped music, which is always at just the right volume, isn't your usual pop radio or irritating noise but Pink Floyd, maybe a spot of 'War of the Worlds' or some other grown up music. A thoroughly enjoyable place to eat. I would give it 6 stars if I could. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Who would expect to find fresh, hand baked, flatbreads in St Austell high street? Soft and golden, lightly flavoured with nigella and fennel seeds. DELICIOUS!!! What a treat. A perfect match for the hummus, feta cheese, olives and marinated peppers / aubergines. If the vegetables had been slightly warm the flavours would have been even better...Lost a star for the coffee (I can't judge but mum said it was disgusting) and the ham (which was disinteresting compared to my plate of deliciousness). Costa may do a nice Cortada - but this cafe serves REAL FOOD.

We stopped in here for breakfast and had a superbly cooked meal. There are plenty of tables and we were surprised it was not busier because we couldn't fault the food or the service. One thing does let this down big time is there is no public wifi as they use it for their order taking service. This is a trick missed in this day and age particularly as I suspect more people would go there if this was available. My score therefore reflects the lack of wifi as this impairs the overall experience.

I've visited Smorgers on several occasions and on each occasion I can not fault the cleanliness, it's nice lay-out,the friendly atmosphere, efficient service and a fantastic large selection of meals, snacks, cakes and drinks. It a fantastic place to met up with friends or family for a light lunch, meal or just a cuppa. I would strongly recommend a visit, it's a credit to St Austell

Only been here to get takeaway lunch and to be honest only ever had a salad bowl and why not a great choice of salad toppings - and whilst more expensive than a premade one from a supermarket you can choose what you want in your bowl and then get a topping. Only ever cheese for me as I'm a veggie. The only fault I can find is it really depends on who serves you to the standard of the salad - a couple of the staff are really quite stingy when it comes to adding to the salad Yes you know who you are and fortunately so do I !!!!!!

I have lunch here quite often and I'm never disappointed. Ken and his staff are always friendly and helpful and the food is always fresh and tasty. As well as eating in there are salads and sandwiches to takeaway. Keep an eye out for the evening food events . They are a real treat.
