We take turns with some friends of ours to visit each other, and enjoy a new eating venue together. It was our turn last weekend, so we took them to Smith's, confident we'd all love it. We reserved a table, but they gave us the choice of choosing another one, which we did. There were plenty of tasty-looking options, and my friends went for a Sunday roast, while my wife and I chose the burgers. I very carefully pointed out my wife's tomato-allergy, which they took on board. When the food arrived, they explicitly announced my wife's burger, but when she cut it in half (a fortunate habit of hers on this occasion!) she found a tomato!! Not wanting to cause a fuss, we swapped burgers (as they'd given me hers), but mentioned the situation on leaving. The manager couldn't have been any more apologetic/courteous, and he won us all over with his top-level hospitality skills. Overall, therefore, our experience at Smith's was excellent - brilliant food, quick service, superb manager (either Jack, or Callum, we're not sure...) We HIGHLY recommend others to eat here, and my friends have already asked if we'll book in again on their next visit!!

- I originally booked a table of 4 but needed to change it to a table of 6. I messed up the booking on the website and the staff rang me to ensure it was right - really great service. - we were seated on a table but there was a bit of a draft so we were quickly moved and the heating was turned up! - yes it’s order at the bar but to be fair that was fine you could have a tab and when we were eating and needed drinks, the staff asked us and brought drinks. - the staff were so attentive, in fact absolutely made it for us. I think it’s 2 brothers, thank you so much - I have very fussy eaters so my Grandma and Dad are both diabetic so struggle with some foods and often on a Sunday, the menu is limited at some places. This menu was literally perfect with something for everyone including vegetarian. It was so nice to see my Grandma finish a meal 🙂 - food was piping hot and we weren’t rushed or anything like that. - fantastic value too Thank you smiths

Out for lunch with friends. We were shown to our reserved table which was at the very end of the pub and were asked to order at the bar. When we sat down we felt like we’d been tucked out of the way and decided we didn’t want to eat there so asked to be moved to the front of the pub where the bar and people were! I had some chicken and garlic flat iron which came with fries, warm pink coleslaw both of which were not very nice, chicken murdered so very dry and tough. My friends went for the steak and ale pies which were huge and looked very home made but unfortunately the meat jaw achingly tough. Overall the food was very disappointing and we won’t be returning. However we did tell the waitress when asked if the food was ok and she was very apologetic and offered us a free pudding.

Haven’t eaten here for a while and have to say we were really impressed by the lunch today and the service. We were a family of 4, kids both opted for fish and chips from the kid’s menu and the adults had open steak sandwich, the falafel flatbread and padron peppers on the side. Pardon peppers were lovely and the quality was good for all the meals. For £60 ish including drinks we felt it was good value and although the menu was a bit longer than maybe needed we would return again. Staff good, no long waits for food and felt like this place was back to where it should be.

To visit the beer garden, you need to brave a corridor of thick cigarette and vape smoke. Once in the garden, there are no ‘no smoking’ areas. As the vast majority of customers do not smoke, this appears to be more than a little short-sighted. Personally, I wouldn’t eat outside as everything would taste of tar or some sweet vapour. As cigarettes and vapes trigger my asthma, I would appreciate the opportunity to avoid it, as in Spoons where the smoking areas are strictly adhered to. Smokers have every right to fill their lungs with whatever they see fit, and I respect this right. They have no right whatever to fill mine, and I would appreciate Smiths respecting the rights of non smokers. It would definitely put me off returning to the beer garden if this policy isn’t addressed.

We booked for a private party with 70 guests. The team were soooo amazing, helping us with all our questions and supporting us whilst we organised my sister in laws engagement party. They let us set up for Karaoke and even helped us when we had sound issues by providing us with a speaker they had! We also decided, last minute, that we wanted some pizzas for our guests and they were happy to accommodate! Can't recommend them enough.

We had an excellent meal. One of us had the gluten free fish and chips which made a nice change, and the other a pizza with a slightly different topping to normal (sausage, stilton and red onion marmalade). Both meals were excellent but sadly left no room for pudding. :-( The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the service was excellent. Good value given the quality of the food. Would definitely go back when next we are in that neck of the woods.

Our second visit to Smiths, this time as a family on a very busy Saturday afternoon over the Easter weekend. Eight of us all enjoyed our meals, they were a little slow to be served but they did all come out together which was pleasing. Quality of food and presentation is very good. If I have one criticism, its with the order process. To order food you have to queue at the bar along with everyone else, some ordering drinks only. I eventually got to the front only to be told one item was unavailable. Had to return to our table (at the back of the restaurant) to get one of the party to choose something else, then rejoin the queue again! With table service this place would be excellent. Failing that, have a dedicated food order point during busy times.

I visited about 2 months ago & my husband & I had a fantastic beef roast. I took my mum as a treat today & we were so disappointed. The meal was just about warm enough & the beef looked nice, but was SO tough. My mum couldn't eat hers. I ate mine as I thought "I've paid top dollar £21.95 for this!!". A waitress asked us half way through our meal if all was ok, I explained & she mumbled something about the new menu & she'd tell the chef but never came back. I really thought they could have offered us ice-cream or something, to compensate for such a disappointing meal. This is the most expensive roast lunch I've had & the most disappointing. To top things off, we went to the loos on the way out and there was diarrhoea on the floor of the cubicle I went in. OMG.

Really enjoyed our meal here on Saturday. Staff were attentive and friendly. I had the noodles with vegan bites and the trillionaire cheesecake and thoroughly enjoyed both. I was worried about my mum who is unsteady on her feet with the stairs but they weren't steep and were easy to climb for her. We loved the quirkiness of the restaurant and it had a nice atmosphere. We will definitely be back again soon.

We booked our table for 12.30pm on a Saturday. Had to stand at the bar until bartender had finished serving drinks to other customers. Bartender was not one bit friendly, not even a smile! We were shown through to our table at the back of restaurant, where it was cold and radiators not on. Our food arrived very quickly, (too quickly) steak pie, champ mash, garlicky kale and carrots. The gravy was congealed and so horribly thick, overall the meal was very disappointing.

I live locally and had family come to visit. I booked the table online to ensure we'd get seated. On arrival, the member of staff didn't have the booking as they'd printed out the sheet before I made the booking, she then checked the system and confirmed we did have a table. We sat down and decided on our order (7 of us, all choosing burgers or pizzas) went to the bar to order to be told there were no burgers or pizzas so had to go back to the table to get alternative options. Back to the bar again, my sister chose curry, I was then told there was no rice, but they could do it with chips. I couldn't believe we weren't told on arrival what was off the menu, and then again when ordering alternatives! I said to the member of staff that it would be ok if we were comped some free cheesy garlic bread, or extra poppadoms etc and I was met with a blank look and asked if I needed to order anything else. Our table was for 1pm. Food came out at gone 2pm and was not worth the wait. Chicken was dry, curry was more like a chutney so to be served with naan and chips was a lot of carbs with no sauce to dip into. When it came to paying, our complaints were voiced and again, just met with a blank stare. No apology, no offer to take anything off the bill. Terrible service and mediocre food. Such a shame as usually it's ok but it's not somewhere I'll take family again. Disappointing.

Second attempt to try breakfast here, first attempt we followed the opening times on the website which said open at 8.30am in a Sunday, arrived about 8.40am and no sign of life so went elsewhere. Looked on the Facebook page after and that said 9am, I emailed them to highlight this and they never responded! So, giving them the benefit of the doubt went for breakfast on Saturday morning, got there at 9am, and doors all locked…after a few minutes the doors opened but we were met by a very unhappy employee who seemed to not want to be there, no smile throughout the whole visit, hardly a word spoken. Both had the full English, it was just ok, toast was cold and we were given a scraping a butter between two so had to ask for more. I really wanted this to be a good experience, however we won’t be going back unfortunately, mediocre food and poor service doesn’t deserve our hard earned cash.

Thought we would try smiths after changing owners as we were thinking of having Christmas meal here. Glad we tried it out beforehand! Sat down, thankfully with a drink from the bar. Waited, waited, waited, no one came to see us, despite the waiter walking past a few times. Finally found out it’s order at the bar! Would have been nice if we were told or it was written in the menu. Nacho starter was nice, but that was it. The mains were poor, in fact I could cook a better burger at home drunk and with my eyes closed. Way below average food. Not a single person came to see how things were. On the hunt for somewhere else for Christmas Day now.

I’ve always loved going to Smiths but things are changing - whether this is due to the new owners I’m not sure. Went with a group of friends for a meal but now you’re not allowed to set up a tab for a table. As there was no table service either there’s no practical way of splitting the bill other than everyone going to the till to order their own food. Smiths has always been relatively expensive - it’s 9 pounds for a large glass of wine - and you don’t expect to have to all leave the table to queue at the bar to order food and drinks. We would normally have gone on to have desserts and probably coffees but had gone out for a catch up not to all have to stand in lengthy queues for the bar every time we wanted food or drink.. It’s a very strange commercial decision for a pub with a lot of well established customers who will probably go elsewhere if this isn’t changed back or table service provided for people eating. Please have a rethink!

The first thing she said was “what’s your problem with the eggs?!” She was very rude and condescending and made us feel like a huge inconvenience. At almost £10 per person for breakfast I would have expected much better. If you’re going to charge prices like that, at least speak to your customers with a bit more respect. We left without even ordering and went to Subway round the corner where we were treated much better and had a decent breakfast for half the price. They couldnt keep to the curfew either last year as I walked past and still had customers in several times. Several occasions have waited over 30mins for a drink from ordering left on a table that wasnt cleaned or sanitized. Obviously they havent seen the fact we are in a global pandemic. I was happy to resolve the issue with them. But a personal diatribe by upper management has barred me for life. £18 for an average burger with cheese and bacon on also is outrageous. If your going to charge those prices I expect a better level of service. I appreciate Covid is going on. But all the other pubs are much more organized.

How does one ‘review’ the intangible emotions that follow a collective experience? Over centuries we, as a sentient society, have learnt to label such feelings. Although there are some indicators, a redness in the face for those that are bashful, or perhaps a trickle down the cheek for the forlorn; I have thus far refrained from these trivialities. During my time wandering through Mongolia, I learnt the ways of the Dughlat people. With their wisdom marrow-deep in my bones, it is useful to remember ‘when joy is extreme, it is the forerunner for grief’. If this is literally the case then post my trip to this delightful establishment, I had better by some necessary funeral flowers. If only to hasted my soliloquy, I’ll slice to the point. We ordered the Caesar Salad and the Macaroni et Fromage. The later was rich and indulgent, whilst the former would have almost certainly received a formidable thumbs up from the imperial Julius. The majority of our service was exquisitely handled by the bespectacled manager. After enticing me to spin yet another yarn, the hirsute man fittingly recommended both our mains, whilst convincing me to relive my youthful memories roaming the industrial backdrop of Bacup, by prescribing a bottle of ‘dandelion and burdock’ for my sins. Speaking of sins, we resisted temptresses and passed on dessert - “take the C off chips” as my psychiatrist, Ludwig, would love to say. Mind you Ludwig would also say “for mortals vanished from the day's sweet light I shed no tear rather I mourn for those who day and night live in death's fear”, a frightfully contradictory fellow. As I left to pay (not the ferryman just yet), the other half of the delectable management team took my silver. Upon exiting through the hefty doors, the warmth of the sun caught my face. The divine Ra had decided to retire for the evening, and I basked in the kaleidoscopic dusk. In a state of almost total arousal, the rays poetically caught a stray dancing tear that tumbled down my left cheek.

We came here with a group of friends on a Friday night after one of our party had recently moved to the Bourne area. We had a fantastic evening, upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly man who gave us directions to our table out in the courtyard. Everything felt clean, socially distanced and well organised.Whilst it was chilly, that is not the pubs fault and we did see tables with heaters on so clearly they are making some provision for the cold. Undeterred we had our coats so ordered some wine and some food. Drinks arrived promptly with polite and friendly service by a young man. A girl with red hair was looking after us, didn't catch her name but she was great! Really attentive on drinks and how our meal was going. Food was fab, delivered by a kind lady who I am told was one of the managers by my friend. Made sure we had what we needed and were ready to devour our food. I had the philly sandwich which I practically enhaled, it was delicious! All in all a really good time. So good to see friends again and the pub is operating a smart, clean and friendly operation. The restaurant cannot help the weather of course, or the current rules relating to outside dining. However, it was very cold the evening we went for dinner and they make no provision to minimise the affects of the cold or make guests more comfortable. Coming out of lock down obvious first choice of venue for guaranteed great food and service was Smiths in Bourne and last night we were not disappointed. We checked in with a very friendly professional chap who was accompanied by the lovely Manager Hayley. We were shown to our Courtyard table where we swiftly received our drink order. I had the guest Ale “summer lightning” what a treat great beer at the pub.We went straight to main course although there was an ample choice of starters. Perfectly cooked rump steak well presented with fantastic chips and build your topping pizza just delightful. All the staff were lovely and very efficient and pleased to see us in particular Matt and Christine were super friendly and look after us very well. We have been before and are definitely going to return and if you’re reading this so should you.

Went for food and drinks on a Friday evening, the pub was very busy but the service was excellent, staff always noticed when our drinks were getting low and came to take another order with which our drinks came out quickly. All seemed very well organised and food was delicious.

This is my local and i have mostly always enjoyed coming here, i would say the best pub in town, however this most recent occasion was not so positive. The tables were crammed in and there was barely 30cm between us and those backing us, other areas were slightly more spaced but still quite packed, i think that 5 tables could be removed overall and it would be much safer. I felt that the poor young staff were very busy all the time, I understand that they were all new however they were rushed off their feet and perhaps not best trained. The majority of the area I was sat in was young adults having a drink however the table over were slightly older. They were incredibly rude to all those surrounding and also staff, nearly making one young server cry. senior management seemed competent but general manager is blunt and has never been about the customers. Food here was good and restriction accommodating as always and beers always good temperature. Overall enjoyed the experience but might think twice next time as to covid safety.

Visited during a weekday for lunch. Friendly chatty staff. Very good selection of food covering a variety of tastes. We tried the special pies which were very good, accompanied with a pleasant variety of vegetables. Service was good. Interior is interesting with many artefacts to look at. A great place for a pleasant lunch.

Met a friend here for lunch today and we could not have picked a better place. My friend is vegetarian so picked the sweet potato pie with a Thai curry sauce.... the flavours were incredible it was so tasty and stir fried veg so fresh and crunchy. Luckily they are running a pie week so it was just £15I chose a pepperoni and mozzarella wrap- the portion was huge and so tasty I would definitely recommend trying. The staff were lovely and there was a nice atmosphere all round!Would recommend!

Myself and wife spontaneously decided to stop here for a bite to eat. I always thought it was a cafe when ever I passed it, was quite surprised to find out it was a pub. Apon entering I thought it was a small pub and didn't realise how big the place was until we grabbed our drinks and started walking to the back. We didn't even know there was a garden let alone how big it was, including a kiddies play area.We ordered a pizza and some hand made fries and sat in the sun drinking while we waiting for the food. The food arrived rather quick, I was surprised how quick. The fries were delious, light and fluffy with a very nice crunch. The pizza tasted quite nice but was not hot, was only warm and the meatballs on top were slightly colder again and the cooked chicken was cold. Despite the pizza not being hot is was still quite tasty with nice flavours.Good to see you can also being dogs into the garden of the pub.

Went with a few friends for meal here. My friend ordered the Camembert to start which wasn’t even cooked and after we received our mains (dry pizzas and dry macaroni cheese). The sodas were also flat. The waitressing staff were lovely but we mentioned that the food wasn’t really up to scratch and the manager, Hayley, was sent over to us. It was by far the rudest encounter I have ever experienced with restaurant staff and she almost made it seem like it was our fault the food wasn’t appetising. Such a shame to see this place going downhill as have been before and the food has been amazing but no excuses for such an impolite manager.

Visited several times since lockdown in various different friend/family/group situations. Eaten twice and the food was spot on - looking at the menu, you might initially be put off by the cost but we weren’t disappointed (attached photo is the philly steak) huge portions. Staff work very hard to create a normal environment during current circumstances, they adhere as best they can to current government guidelines and do a good job (despite some customers best effort to ruin the fun for everyone else) the team working in Smiths are generally friendly and happy to greet their customers, regulars and new. I do think that more should be done about how freely the public move amongst each other within a pub of this size. The staff can not be held accountable for this as it is not their responsibility, but later in the evening of a weekend when things begin to liven up some groups seem to forget themselves. Possibly a security presence in the later evening would prevent any uncomfort for both the staff and visitors who wish to enjoy themselves whilst keeping to current distancing guidance?

While the food and drinks were lovely and the waiting staff were very welcoming, we were initially greeted by a rude woman who told us to move outside due to the volume inside. She treated me and my party appallingly and we were shocked by her lack of manners and abrasive communication.

A lovely pub with a huge drink selection. Very welcoming to us and our german shepherd. We only stayed for a very light lunch just to keep us ticking until dinner, but the food was delicious. We had table nibbles which was pigs in blankets, rosemary potatoes and calamari. At first the menu seems a little expensive for nibbles but the portions are very generous and the food is delicious. It’s a shame we are on holiday so we probably won’t be coming here any time soon for dinner, otherwise we would book in ASAP

We went here for a meal and a few drinks on a Friday evening whilst visiting our friends in Bourne. On arrival we were seated outside in the non smoking section by the children’s play area as our friends have a small child and a baby. I was impressed, it had lovely hanging baskets and was all very lovely. It was a little confusing trying to find the inside bar as someone who is not familiar to the layout. The drinks were nice and the staff were friendly enough. We ordered the food which arrived quickly and we all enjoyed our meals. However the place quickly became full of groups of younger drinkers, which is fine as it was a Friday evening and they want to enjoy themselves. My gripe is the fact that a majority of the drinkers began smoking in the non smoking section and swearing loudly near the children’s play area. Not one member of staff told them that they should not smoke, and to move to the designated area, in fact one even joked with one particular group (who I assume he knew) that they should not really be smoking but just do it under the table so no one sees. It became so bad that my friend had to ask one table directly next to us to please stop smoking as she is trying to feed her baby. It really put a downer on it and we ended up having to leave.

Had a family Sunday Lunch in one of the upstairs rooms. Great menu, offering good variety including traditional Sunday Lunch, but also a great “game casserole”. Something for everyone. Great service - not imposing upon you, but there when you needed it. Good range of beers, many guest craft beers. All the usual traditional deserts as well.

We were a party of 8 celebrating a family birthday. The food was very good, the service was reasonable, considering it was a Saturday night. However, because the restaurant was busy, it was very noisy and where we were seated upstairs there was very little room between tables. I would recommend this restaurant, but probably better not to be there on a Saturday evening.

Nice interior surroundings but one of 2 choices of a hot meal- sweet and sour pork stir fry was overpriced and poor. Advertised as ‘slow cooked’ well maybe for 20 minutes! The pork was tough and the added peppers barely cooked so how slow is slow. Your cook, note not chef, needs some retraining. We will not be returning, roll on Wetherspoons where basic quality pub grub is at least cheap. Not at all keen on dogs in dining areas this is unhygienic.

We’ve been visiting Smith’s since it opened many moons ago. It is particularly good at the moment. Food, although pricey, is excellent quality. Tables are cleared quickly and atmosphere is friendly. One serious gripe: I have no issue at all with a dog-friendly pub, it adds to the character. However, dogs on the tables and chairs is gross. There were 3 dogs with their muzzles and paws on the tables last Sunday lunch time - and the staff said nothing. I suppose you could take your own sanitiser spray if you plan to eat but I would have thought there were health and safety guidelines.

We went to Smiths for my daughters 16th birthday at her request as she had been there before, however we hadn't.The place was very busy when we arrived and the bar was about 3 deep, but they were soon through them and we got served before going off to find a table, this wasn't hard as there are quite a few in this vast pub with a second floor with lots up there to if you want it a bit quieter. Once everyone arrived we decided what we wanted and went to the bar to order, all of the food arrived at once (there was 6 of us) which was great and everyone tucked in. One of our guests went for the pie and unfortunately on this occasion the pastry was very hard, we did let the waitress know and she had it removed from the bill. I went for the Chicken Katsu curry which was tasty and plentiful, the pizzas looked awesome as did the Yorky Pudding starters that one of my daughters had.All in all it was very nice and the atmosphere aded to it.I will go back again.

Went for lunch with my husband. The service was very good and the meal arrived promptly. I ordered an open sandwich, Smoked Salmon, Prawns and Rocket with Lemon & Horseradish Mayonnaise. The sandwich was very disappointing. There were a small handful of tiny prawns, 3 or 4 small strips of salmon, absolutely masses of mayonnaise(with no discernable horseraddish flavour). The cost of the sandwich was £9.95 and was extremely poor value for money. I could not eat the sandwich as it had so much mayonnaise all over it and hardly any other ingredients. At the end of the meal the waitress asked if everything was alright and we commented as above.

Had their rioja very good. But had beetroot falafels, the hummus was missing big thing with the cook checking menu before I got it. Pitta bread served under everything not heated/toasted soggy coveredin oil and mint sauce. Mentioned told this was how the bosses wanted it served ...really!! At £14.95 a very expensive disaster, no apology.

I went here twice over a few days in Bourne. Saturday lunch and dinner one evening. This a pub and bar that has a very large outside area for both lunch and dinner. The menu is wide and i would say modern European cuisine. It is good food and good size portions. The ordering food and drinks at the bar is a little complicated as you need to have a table number first but it works and then they bring your food to the table. Overall good quality and very pleasant if the sun is out.

1. I ordered the chargrilled chicken caesar salad. Chicken was NOT chargrilled. More like boiled. Also there was NO crispy bacon at all, as indicated on the menu. I suppose I should have spoken up, but my wife and daughter-in-law would have been mortified, so I kept quiet.

Every one of us was impressed by the quality, taste and presentation of our dishes.
