Smithfields Traditional Fish & Chips in Telford and Wrekin

Can be quite a long wait but worth it. I should phone my order and cut out the wating but I really don't mind!

The only place I can find gluten free fish and chips near me and it's excellent! Always feel very reassured by the staff with my intolerance and needs and they are always really accommodating.

We had a wonderful meal of the most delicious fish and chips, kebabs, mushy peas, scrumptious sauces and Mediterranean wraps; all our three generations, grandparents, parents and grandchildren were all happy ! Thank you to the chef and staff for a lovely evening in a lovely atmosphere!

Great place to eat in for fish and chips. The bread and butter though is marine and the tea is weak, but you go there for fish and chips which are great.

The food and service are great but it’s a popular chip shop and parking isn’t great. Also quite expensive—but still worth it.

Had a pleasant experience. Friendly customer service. Kids love their wraps.

Always read the reviews on any food establishment, And generally take them (sic) with a pinch of salt. There are or should i say were no high quality fish & chip shops in Telford, A situation that has existed for some time now, Sad to say. Have edited my review as I previously rated Smithfield at 5 star. However since the Cost of Living crisis has started to bite, Whether obtaining The quality ingredients are either too expensive/difficult to source currently but I feel a definite downturn in the quality & taste recently. Sorry Smithfield but credit & criticism has to be administered in equal & fair measure.......... It is a sobering thought to think that Fish & Chips is more expensive in a grotty Town like Wellington now than they are in Whitby!! And YET ANOTHER price increase (minimum wage increase?) is pretty shameful really. Business should be absorbing that. P. S. Don't bother BTW contacting them with an issue as I did last week after been served a £4.90 bag of cold Chips. All about the Money, Nothing more. Last time we patronise this place.......

Absolutely amazing experience at The Smithfield. We sat in the restaurant, the waitress was very attentive. The food came fast, was super hot and extremely tasty. I had a kebab wrap, which was delicious. The meat was cooked to perfection and the salad was lovely and fresh. Chips were piping hot. You definitely get quantity and quality at The Smithfield. Lovely staff and amazing food.

Absolutely used be nice but lately gone down hill and really expensive that was regular portion for 3.40 and we were given a fresh order but tasted worse than these ones will not be using here again :(

Probably the best fish and chips in the area... I mean the bar is pretty low, it's not like anything you get in the North East, but it's alright.

Fish is so succulent, light and batter is always perfect. Salad is always fresh. This is my favourite meal, and I always order exactly this plate of food. My husband loves their pitta kebabs, with really tender marinated chicken breast. Staff are quick and efficient as well as being very welcoming and they really go out of their way for you. I definitely recommend Smithfields. I wouldn't get my fish and chips anywhere else.

I used to love this chippy. I went a few weeks ago and it was like a ghost town. There was a couple in there that had to ask how much longer the order was going to be as they had wrapped part of the order and it was sitting wrapped in the window parts sweating. I too experienced this. They wrapped my chips and stored them and then i waited about 9 minutes for the kebab and fish to be done.

Well what can i don't do menny reviews but in my opinion its best place to get your finish and chips in telford take away or dine in, my fish was perfectly battered in my opinion nice and light and not greasy chips was awesome also loved every bit of it and girlfriend loved her meal very much also.

The chips were really delicious. The customer waiting side had a lot of flies and needed a bit of an update. Will be looking forward to trying more of the menu

Never ever go here again, poor service, staff unhelpful, asked for well done chips but still came out pale and undercooked fish was tasteless and well over priced, never even asked if I wanted a plastic fork, why everyone goes there I will never know, so many cheaper better places in Wellington ☹️

What a great place for gluten free fish and chips! Had some concerns whether the batter for the fish was dairy free and my messages on Facebook answered quickly with the confirmation it is totally gluten and dairy free. Staff friendly and helpful, everything cooked fresh, and food tasted great. Other gluten free products available but haven't tried them - yet! I'm told by my better half that the regular fish and chips also excellent.

Today was the first time ever I’ve had not good chips from here everything always first class , chips were not freshly cooked or something they were hard 13.45 , 4th July 23

Disgustingly overpriced, tiny pot of chips and some curry sauce was about £8 to eat in, plenty of better chip shops where you can get much more for much less, please go somewhere else

I have visited Smithfields multiple times and each time they have delivered exceptional quality food. I would recommend for the food alone, but what adds to the experience is the service, good pricing and overall atmosphere of the shop. The online preorder is extremely useful, and you can use this to prevent queuing. You can tell that the staff care about their customers, and just the fact that I've never seen it quiet says something about the level of quality you get from Smithfields. One hundred percent my go-to takeaway in Telford.

Staying in Wellington over the weekend and tried the chippy from reading the reviews. I was greeted warmly as soon as I entered, friendly staff and great tasting, well cooked food, will definitely use again when in Wellington.

Gorgeous staff and delicious fish! Not overly greasy like a lot of chippys and my stomach is always happy after my meal. The staff are fabulous with children here and we love going as a family. With our GF child as well who also loves it. Highly recommend. The only thing that could make it better would be the seaside.

Recently had fish and chips from here, the batter was hard and the fish didn't taste good at all, we also ordered donner meat and chips large hardly got any meat and it was cut too thick and was not cooked all the way through and found it expensive and waited ages for food , won't be eating from there again !

We ate here tonight and tbh wish we hadn't, 2 kids chicken nugget meals niether of the kids would eat them. I had a large donner meat that was dry and Stone cold and me and my partner shared a family bag of chips which cost £4.40 so for this you would expect a very large bag. This was not the case they were tiny. Have seen more chips in a cone and that didn't cost £4.40 they were also cold and dry. The restaurant have offered to send a voucher but I'm not intrested in this now as the quality was awful. On speaking to the manager he said the small portion were due to rising costs etc and as much as I understand that they also need to be of a fair size for the amount of money. This used to be possibly the best chippys in the area by a long way, however in the last 18 months the food quality has gone down, prices gone up and portions have shrunk. I now think its one of the worst in the area and will not be returning again after several shocking meals.

I have had a rough day and as the smithfield kebabs have been recommended to me i wont be recommended them again.Kebab meat was dry salad was limp, only decent thing was the chips.maybe it was an off day but nah didn't satisfy me.7.95 good value if it was good but mine wasnt.mixed dry meat blah

Apart from the establishment being not exactly disabled person accommodating, the meal, staff and general ambiance were excellent.

portions very burger and chips to be honest packet off crisps had more potato’s kebab with salad kebab ok but. If I joined the tomato together it wouldn’t have made 1 whole so sorry won’t be using again

Service was as nice as usual, but unfortunately their food let them down massively. The mixed kebab had burnt, dry meat which must have been sat in the pot for a very long time. Inedible. Our chips had several ones which still had a frozen center. The battered mushrooms were just that, a giant raw mushroom with batter on it....but I guess that last one is on me expecting something different.

Dined in. Ordered fish and chips. And had to keep asking for tartar sauce. No other sauces or condiments were provided. Really odd. Food was good. Staff was kind.

Good chippy overall BUT expect to wait 30-45mins for your takeaway food if you don’t make a phone order. There’s a sign telling you to wait in your car after ordering so they must be aware of the long wait times. Ive never seen a sign like that in any other chippy in my life. You wait a long time here even with just one or two customers in-front of you. I can’t understand why the long waits when they have several staff working and it’s not even that busy. A lot of staff standing around though so perhaps the reason why? I’d imagine at least a 1hour wait here in busy periods. Its frustrating as the food is good here with a wide selection on the menu. Unfortunately I go elsewhere if I need my food in less than 15mins after ordering - which is the normal serve time for 99% of all chippys in the UK.

I am a coeliac, so I am gluten free. This chip shop offers a lot of gluten free products, to eat in or take out. The fish, chips and peas I've eaten were amazing, they had so must flavour. I would highly recommend this place.

Great traditional chippy fare and spot-on customer/staff relationship, you can request orders are carried out to the car park. Delicious food and quick service, Smithfields is close to a relative's house and has become a must visit when we are nearby.

Bought fish and chips for 2 I was astounded when I was charged £25!!! I know I had two bottles of pop(small) and I realise that prices have gone up but really disappointing quality, the chips were so salty I had to throw away they also could have done with a few minutes longer cooking time and fish was not the best. I have a lot better from this place previously!!
