Slip's Xgates in Leeds

Fuimos a probar Slips como nunca antes y encontramos que la comida era extremadamente sabrosa. Había una buena opción para nosotros como vegen / veggie. El servicio fue excelente y el ambiente era de estilo café, muy relajado. Un buen precio en general. Realmente lo disfruté y lo recomendaría encarecidamente.

De repente, hay varios lugares muy buenos para comer en Crossgates. Slip's fue una sorpresa encantadora, con un excelente menú de mariscos que ofrece excelentes sabores. El guiso de pescado era una gran olla de mariscos en un caldo muy sabroso. El espagueti con abadejo ahumado era muy bueno. También tuvimos unos excelentes calamares. ¡El café era bueno y fuerte y se servía en la taza del tamaño correcto! El servicio fue muy rápido sin hacerte sentir apurado. ¡Definitivamente uno para volver, aunque solo sea para probar las sardinas!

I came in with my sister, who had eaten there before, on Saturday afternoon expecting frankly not very much. I asked the waiter for his recommendation which was the fish stew. It was very good and was cooked with good ingredients and good stock. My sister had the spaghetti with meatballs, which was also very good. The only thing I would say both meals lacked was some crusty bread to mop up the juices rather than the pizza base like garlic bread that was provided. We went on to have the chocolate tart for dessert. This was also very tasty being dark chocolate, but perhaps it could have been improved if it also came with a fruit-based coulis (e.g. raspberry) which would have complemented the richness of the chocolate. This restaurant is a real hidden gem!

We visited Xgates Slip's Saturday after calling in earlier to see if we needed to book a Table. The waiter/barman said that it wasn't necessary but gave us a copy of the menu to take with us and advised that we could phone our order in if required. We had not eaten at slip's before so didn't know what to expect, we also had a few question we needed answers to so chose not the phone. We arrived at 7pm the waiter was most helpful with our choices of food and drinks advising on portion size and quantity. We chose the Swedish meatballs, Spanish mushrooms, lamb curry, Mediterranean rice, and olives. The food arrived as ordered was plentiful and very tasty. The waiter was very attentive ensuring we had enough drinks and offered more bread if required. The background music was ideal adding to the overall ambiance. The only downside to the event was the place was a little chilly. The plates were cold and there was no facility to keep the food warm once on the table. Otherwise a great night with great food and excellent servive

We popped into slip's in the afternoon to check if we needed to book a table. We were advised it wasn't necessary and we're given a copy of the menu to take away with us in case we wanted to phone our order in. Not having been to the bistro to eat before, we chose not to pre order as the were a few questions we required answers to. There was just one barman/waiter on as the bistro wasn't particularly busy. The waiter was very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. He advised on the beers, wines and food portions. The only thing we could fault, was the rice was hot spicey, which wasn't advised on the menu, the plates were cold and there was no way to keep the food warm once it arrived on the table. The food itself was great we especially liked the Swedish meatballs and the lamb curry. The Spanish mushrooms had lots of flavour and more bread was available if required. Another downsides was the place was a bit cold but that could be because there wasn't many in. The background music was a great choice, very chilled out. I would highly recommend you give Slip's a try. We will definitely be going again soon.

Had a lovely evening with great food and music. There portions are very generous and excellent quality. Was made to feel very welcome by the owner. Highly recommend.

Very disappointed with lunch at this restaurant. The owner modeled himself on Basil Fawlty I think. His manner was quite abrupt. The music was very loud and he wasn't happy when we asked him to turn it down a bit. We couldn't hear each other speak. The food wasn't too bad but I had fishcakes that were supposed to be smoked haddock and salmon and I couldn't detect any trace of fish. Nothing comes with veg etc that has to be ordered separately. The owner left off in the middle of serving us to shout at some passing youths outside !! At the end of the meal we were thinking of having coffee because the place was freezing cold, we ate with our coats on. Nothing else was offered, the chap cleared our table then washed it down with a wet cloth and we had to sit back while he did it. We paid and left!! Hopefully he will read this and make some improvements.

Very disappointed and upset! I went here to celebrate my friends 22nd birthday , we was having a lovely evening until one of the employees came over and handed us the bill, saying that we needed to pay and leave as we were being accused of doing drugs in the toilet!! Which is absurd! Following this, the manger then started to get aggressive saying abusive comments. we have all of this on record. They also refused to give us my friends birthday cake back& wouldn’t let us pay the bill, Worst place I have ever been would definitely not recommend.

My first visit to this newish restaurant/bar was back in July for lunch and I was thoroughly impressed, so much that I took 3 different people there for an evening meal on a Saturday night in September. Because you can't book a table we were advised to come before 7.00 pm to make sure of a table without a wait and so got there around 6.50. A lovely table tucked away in the corner near the bar was great. The staff are happy to advise you on the number of dishes to order, as they are bigger than the average tapas portions and we were happy to follow her advice. The food is really good and when we asked for extra bread this was brought quickly. The place quickly filled up around 7.30ish and the atmosphere was good without becoming noisy. The staff are very friendly and helpful and a good night was had by all. My friends were all impressed and we shall certainly be going back there again. Keep up the good work, it is great to have a good eatery in Xgates.

Wow....went initially for lunch, and was delighted by the quality of the food so wen back with another friend for tea. All the dishes have been gorgeous, lamb curry, humus, Niçoise salad and calamari are beautiful. Portions are generous and staff very friendly. Reasonable prices too. If you haven’t been...go!

The food was very tasty, I can't deny that. And there was a nice atmosphere in the place. I felt that the price of the tapas were a bit steep - £7/£8 I think. The service wasn't great too. We felt very rushed to order and then rushed a bit to pay and leave. I got the impression that they wanted us out so they could go home.

Greeted and seated quickly at last remaining table. Very cramped - one table too many perhaps? Given menu but no explanation of the somewhat confusing menu layout. Took 15 mins to place drinks order and have menu explained. The waitress explained they offerered starter sized meals and she'd advise us if we ordered too few or too many. At this point we were told a couple of dishes were not available. Another 10 minutes passed before our order was taken by a different waitress, by this point one of our choices was sold out.Also, we were informed that we couldn't order starters and mains to follow as everything came out a once. No comment was made about whether we'd ordered sufficient for 3 people - we hadn't as it turned out. The food did arrive very promptly after our order but 45 minutes after our arrival is a little too long. The quality was excellent, made with good quality ingredients giving a fresh taste. The portion size however was a bit of a mystery as all priced around same mark: good sized, well presented salad nicoise and tasty pasta with meatballs but only 4 calamari rings and 2 small 'sticky chicken' thighs with small side salad. Cheese and meat charcuterie has good sized portions of cheese but not much meat. Myself and my husband were not really filled by this but didn't want to have to wait and order more food. 5 dishes, a large glass of house red (£6.50) and 2 soft drinks = £47. Nice to see soft drinks at sensible prices. If this restaurant was at the end of our street then we'd return but as we have to drive, then there are other places I'd go to first.
