always a friendly welcome and good food .as of late I use a mobility scooter. and still get good service even though served outside. at the outside tables ...

Had deliveroo from Slice. Omelette was rubbery and had been boxed with salad which made everything taste of hot Lettuce. Bagel was dry, bacon overcooked, egg rubbery and plasticky cheese. Iced 'coffee' not great, mocha just tasted of chocolate milkshake. Wouldn't recommend.

Been here a few times and usally have really nice food although recently after having lunch it was a rather poor experience. Waited over an hour for a panini, bagel and chips: After 50mins of waiting someone came up to ask what we were having as they lost the ticket then 10mins later food came but the panini was incorrect and had to wait a further 10mins. Was going to give 2 or 3 stars but there was no apology or acknowledgement of the mistake or amount of time it took. Use to be a good place to go a few years ago but not anymore.

From the outside, it looks very ordinary. You order and pay first at the till and then you sit down with your given number Your meal is brought to you. It's excellent service. The staff are lovely. I prefer the downstairs because its better kitted out. But there is a sizeable upstairs, too, which has a children's play area at one end. I would prefer the baked beans to be a higher quality and to be piping hot rather than just warm, though. But I find that most cafés / eateries don't serve hot baked beans. The rest of the food is excellent and hot. The coffee is lovely. Out of 5 I have to give 4 because the beans are not hot. But out of 10 I'd give 9, and out of 100 I'd give 95.

Friendly staff and my bacon sandwich is excellent. I will keep going back for the food, staff and relaxed atmosphere.

It is a nice little place for a workmanlike breakfast. I can recommend it.

We were looking for a sandwich and a cuppa not a full-blown lunch and we found this cafe. Perfect! I had a bacon, Brie and cranberry wrap, Mike had Cumberland Special sausage baguette. Both gorgeous (we shared). Cost including a pot of tea and a latte £15.60. Great value.

Awful food quality. You can taste how cheap the bread is, not to mention the bacon. All food is far overpriced for the quality. A bacon sandwich will set you back £6. I think the only reason this cafe is still in business is because of pensioners who are afraid to find a different place to eat.

Was visiting friends in Colchester and they recommended Slice for a quality breakfast, I was not disappointed, great value for money and spot on brekkie. While you're there check out the independent coffee House next-door.

I popped in on a Saturday morning before work and had one of the set breakfasts. I work only 3 doors away and have never visited before, well the breakfast was amazing and the coffee up there with the best, plus it was less than £5!! Well done Slice, my waistline may not let me visit every Saturday, but it will definitely be one of my new regular favourites

As a regular, slice is the best value for money in town, even have a loyalty card.

We had baked patato with tuna and mayo with salad. It looked very nice but the patato was fluffy when you used the fork the patato did not look right I have never seen a baked patato look so miserables, and the salad was not fresh. The only saving grace was the tea was very good.

Best value and quality breakfast in Colchester. Go for the double breakfast, you won't want anything else all day. Quality produce at a very competitive price and it includes a coffee. Try it and see, you won't regret it. A word of warning you need a big appetite for the double breakfast

If Carlsberg did breakfast it would be at Slice. It's probably the best in Colchester for value and taste. Fried eggs just perfect with lovely runny yolks and no burnt edges.

Simply the best breakfast in town and so reasonably priced! I love having breakfast here, always cooked to perfection and using good quality ingredients. Go for the double English breakfast, you’ll be glad that you did!

Slice looked, to me, like a very homely and cosy place for me and my friends to congregate, during our lunchtime break from Colchester Sixth Form. However, we were greeted with a hatful of horror while we dined. Me and my group of friends have come here multiple times, seeking an area for us to feel welcome and complete some college work whilst we ate. Unfortunately, the staff had an uninviting edge and were very keen to treat us with disrespect. Each of our visits have ended in upset and disappointment with the Slice staff. Earlier on today, I decided to write a review to voice my concerns on the staff’s exuberance. Our visit began with a passive aggressive atmosphere, but only towards us. We are a very respectful, friendly group of individuals and were not causing any havoc. We went to order our food and when it came, we felt very rushed to leave the premises. One of the arrogant staff even approached us, saying they were watching us on CCTV and accused us of eating outside food - this was not the case. She proceeded to be very rude to us throughout the rest of our dining experience and has previously said that we were turning away customers by being present. This is very frustrating and upsetting, as we are all paying customers. I will not be returning again until this discrimination towards our age group ends.

Lovely cuppa tea. Food is good and staff are friendly. Everything is clean and tidy. Worth a visit.

Boring menu,and my panini was burnt and served burnt side down like they were trying to hide it! Tried to get a refund as the wait was really long and I didn't have time for them to make a fresh one but the manager seemed reluctant to refund my money. Very unprofessional!

The food was awful, but what really bugged me was the way the middle aged blond woman was very rude and also was bullying and belittling the younger girls working there, who were very polite and professional. I think the manager ought to step in on this as if this obnoxious woman is the face of the company, you need better representation. The one thing I can't stand is a bully and this woman certainly was one.

My husband loves The Slice, he says the breakfast is perfect, the bacon just right, the sausages tasty, the egg perfectly fried and tomatoes grilled to perfection, the waiting staff delightful, the owner very friendly......plus newspapers...we just cannot fault it. Fantastic value for money.

Went for breakfast today as usual in this normally friendly cafe, we ordered our food and asked if the air con could be turned down as was blowing out very cold air not just our table but the table behind also commented on how cold it was, the owner was so rude ! was not expecting that ! After all not nice when you’ve paid for a meal and it’s so cold normally leave a good tip so apologies to the staff . . . Will not be returning!

Called in at lunchtime, got served quickly and the chick wrap I had tasted really good. Its only a small place, however it seems to be really busy which speaks for itself!

Great modern breakfast and lunch place with tasty food at excellent prices and fast service. Order at the counter then take a seat and your drinks and food arrives fast! Get a full English breakfast special choosing white or granary toast and including an Americano or tea. The breakfast was high quality and tasted fresh, even the mushrooms! Afterwards enjoy a fruit smoothie the Big 5 was excellent. Enjoy the free Wi-Fi and be free to leave whenever you like cause you already paid at the counter. So good we’ll be back for lunch!

I have just had a jacket potato from this establishment, it was first off all tiny , I was given one tiny piece of butter and it was also dry. Not something I would be eating again.

Called in for a light lunch, we both chose panini, which were hot, crispy and very tasty, and served with a small side salad. Staff were friendly and the food was brought to our table within about five minutes. Lovely little cafe, great food at a good price.

Staff were rude and unwelcoming, It seems as if teenagers are not wanted. Trying to choose my food was difficult as the staff kept pressuring me to order. the food ended up being mediocre, bit mean on the salad. Whilst I was eating my mediocre sandwich one of the staff members was crying so as it seems that the slice of Colchester is a poor working environment too. I was very underwhelmed of the ‘art’ I saw considering it’s an ‘art gallery’ and the decor was a bit distracting and not in a good way. Very anticlimactic.

It's nice to go for lunch like a panini, soap or a salad or a hot or cold drink it's reasonably priced and good service but when I ordered today I said I was cold and a waitress named Debbie said she is cold because she is skinny which is totally out of order and not professional!

Meet here every Wednesday for Breakfast well cooked and great value especially before 11.30am. Staff are very pleasant and offer very good service with a smile and a laugh. We love it give it a try you won't be dissapointed.

To us popping into town for a quick cup of coffee toast or egg on toast you can not do any better than this. Good consistent Quality on the normal basic menu. I think it cannot be bettered in the area.

Saw this place amongst 4 or 5 others and decided to give it a try. Glad we did. Everything was well cooked, service was good and really good value for money. Try the Cumberland sausage baguette and the homemade coleslaw is amazing.

I had the misfortune to order a jacket potato with Chilli con carne. My advice to anyone out there thinking about it is DON'T! What should have been an enjoyable lunch was devastated by the worst lump of mince I have ever tasted. It was dry, it was hard, it was unseasoned and the long spaghetti strands told me it had not been browned and was probably chucked in a pot frozen in the same shape it came out of it's polystyrene pack. The orange stuff holding it together was supposedly the chilli sauce - still not sure. To make matter worse despite moving the lumps to the side of the plate and very meaningfully moving the plate to a suitable pick up point by the servers our table was ignored, not once or twice but 4 times. When I got up to complain [and make an offer to send them in some of my chilli c c] the staff miraculously disappeared. 10 minutes later the plate was still there, almost like they knew. My solution, take it off the menu. My husband really enjoyed his breakfast so perhaps that's where your forte lies so stick with what you do well and forget what you can't and I can guarantee you this item will not be missed.

Consistently decent food and good prices from one of Colchester's finest independent food outlets. Excellent selection of breakfasts and paninis, and hot and cold drinks. Staff very friendly. Nice art gallery area upstairs plus nice view of Culver Street.
