Slanj Restaurant in Argyll & Bute

Driving back to Crianlarich after a day out and needed a Cuppa and the toilet. Ended up having our Cuppas along with Cullen Skink for her, which she loved and my first Lorne Sausage and Tatty Scone roll since I got up here, and boy was it worth it. Good value and excellent service too. A worthy place to rest and recuperate.

Very good meal spent in Slanj! I recommend with my eyes closed! Good food, low prices and smile from the manager.

Starting with the good… the server was friendly and attentive, I’ve knocked 1 star off for a combination of terrible, low quality, low effort food for a hefty price, and we were not asked if we were happy with the food. I’d guess this place has had a new change of hands recently because I can’t understand the positive reviews or how it’s still doing business… received the smallest piece of microwaved fish, I actually thought it was a child’s portion, it was disgusting. The toilets need to be cleaned… and the puddings were awful. I felt like I’d been robbed.

Stopped over for the night in our van free if you buy food .. Unlike some waste of space who didn't. Food was okay the staff very helpful and bought some extras out of the little shop in the car park. Had a walk and a few beers a very chilled experience. Definitely stopping again

Very very yummy food. We ordered the steak pie, haggis pakora, cullen skink, mussels, rump steak, grilled sea bass and kiddy pizza. All were delicious. Our favourite was the sea bass. Service was exceptional! My little one loved their peas so much I asked them what brand did they use, not only did they gave me the name but also a bag of peas to take home! Heard a burst of laughter from the kitchen when the waiter went in to ask 🤣🤣 Very very friendly staff.

After our beautiful hike, we made our way down to The Slanj for dinner in Tarbet. This restaurant is located in an old church, and while the outside pays tribute to history, the inside is fresh and modern. This is where I had the wonderful experience of their steak pie, my first ever pie in Scotland. Tender, perfectly-cooked steak with crispy puff pastry, savory mashed potatoes and sublime steamed vegetables. The staff were so professional and kind, and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to dine there.

Stayed here overnight in our motorhome. They made us very welcome and our two dogs. Several walks for your four legged friends to enjoy. In the evening we enjoyed our fish n chips meal, washed down with the local lager. It was very nice 👍 Toilet facilities are useful during there opening hours. It was a free stopover subject to buying food or a drink.

Lovely food, great portion size and friendly helpful staff

You could call it a great Scottish canteen. Nice setting in an old chapel, menu with some typical and well-made dishes. Cuisine without fuss but generous. We had a good time with friends.

A wait for food but when it came excellent!! Staff were lovely, chatty and helpful. The apple pie is amazing!

Spend the night at the restaurant with the camper. Friendly owner and delicious food. Haggis (typical Scottish dish) as a starter was very tasty.

I've seen bigger beefburgers than the steak, which was £20 and the peppercorn sauce was more like dishwater so couldnt put on.. steak pie was massive pieces of steak but had t ask f extra gravy..the heated frozen veg was cold and crunchy so dissapointing really..and a pint of lager 6.20 omg.. menu small and basic😲.. parked up for night free cos ate in .. nxt morning bacon n egg bun from shop, 1 piece of bacon with a egg.. shocking for £4 ..won't recommend..

Just got a breakfast roll from the snack bar outside. Received the thinnest piece of black pudding that could be cut with a potato scone and red sauce. Then had the cheek to charge me £4. When I asked him his thoughts on it, the guy said he was told to cut it that thin. Absolute rip off. What are tourists going to think if that's the standard of service. Absolutely disgusting. Tell tourists to avoid this place

Interesting architecture given it's a converted church. Ordered panini and tea, warm and toasted, comes with salad and coleslaw. Very filling, good value. Service is friendly.

During our stay in Tarbet we of course also stumbled upon Slanj. We went there because of the good reviews. We were very satisfied and will definitely come back. The service is really very friendly and understandable and will help in any case. The food is also good, although the selection is limited. There are also vegetarian and vegan dishes. A stay here is definitely worth it.

My lasagna was just meh. Wife's tuna wrap was bleh. Haggis pakora tasted funny... Vinegar? Overpriced for what we got for sure.

Delicious food, good beers and friendly staff. In an old church, too. That makes the visit special.

Great service and good quality meals!

Had to eat with jacket on it was so cold inside. Not much service, have to go get your own sauces that noone tells you about and can't bring the bill to you. The food was horrible, we both got the steak pie, full of fatty lumps, just steak fat and plain sauce, nothing like carrot or onion or sausage or anything else in the steak pie. The veg was straight out a tin, undercooked, hard and unseasoned and I love a good mash potato but this was so disgusting I ended up giving 3/4 of my meal to the dog and my boyfriend 1/2 his meal to the dog. Some of the veg so bad we couldn't even give it to the dog. Not worth the money at all, we're now off to find somewhere else to eat because still hungry.

The burger was the worst I've ever had. Dry, completely solid meat, no taste. The fish with the vegetables that were not cooked and not seasoned was a break. 1 x and NEVER there again....... the toilets and the whole store urgently need a proper cleaning!!!!

Absolutely to recommend!!! Amazing little Restaurant in an old church. Looks nice from the outside and looks very nice from the inside. Service is very friendly and good. The food.... Fantastic!!! Had the Haggis Pakora, a Beef Burger and Fish and Chips. Really everything was fantastic and a benchmark!!! Please never ever chance the chef. Awesome job. BTW.... And again something which should be mentioned... The prices for the drinks are absolutely fair. Keep going that way!!! A little nice gem in Scotland.

The opening times online is wrong, they close at 8pm. Staff were friendly and polite, venue is nice. I ordered the steak pie, unfortunately it was mostly fatty bits, could barely eat half of it, which was such a shame because it was a nice venue

Had an amazing lunch here today. After cold water therapy me, my sister and my dog stopped in for some lunch. Milo had sausages, carrot n mash, I had the burger and my sis had haggis pakora and chips and cheese. Clean plates all around. Food was amazing. Love that not only are dogs welcome but also that there is a menu for them.

This is the first time in my life that we ate with our jackets on... When we arrived there were 5 tables occupied so we thought we would be served quickly. This was without taking into account the waiter who had 2 tensions... 15 minutes to come and take the order, 15 minutes more to bring us 3 Cokes that he had forgotten and 30 minutes later, they finally brought us the dishes . Cold fries, cold fish and homemade soup that looked more like orange colored water than soup... The toilets are practically outside and we, who were hoping to discover an original decor given that it is an old church, were completely disillusioned. This is the first time I've left a bad comment but I completely advise against it.

The meal was really well and they have prepared it fast. It was not really hot when arrived at our table. Unfortunately I have to remove two stars for the ambience and one in total as the toilet was a total mess. Dirty, seat was loose.. This is nothing you can have for customers.

Fantastic food and service, stopped on our way along loch lomond. Happy to adjust the menu to cater for allergies and had a separate menu for our dog. Highly recommended 👌

Food was pretty standard- the Cullen skink was nice, hearty and flavoursome Nice to see local haggis on the menu- very enjoyable Also enjoyable were the local beers and spirits Unfortunately service left a lot to be desired - atmosphere could've been more welcoming. Don't think they're keen on having hikers in here from what I overheard

Wanted to try some local food on our visit to Scotland. Cullen skink was hearty, flavoursome and warming. Enjoyed the haggis. Nice to try local beers and sprits. I felt like I was bothering staff by being there and found the ordering system confusing at bar / table. Lovely venue in an old church.

Lovely looking place but was closed when I was there. Therefore I cannot comment

First visit for some time, just wanted coffee and cake. Service was fine but not many customers at the time. Coffee and cake were good, we didn't have a meal so couldn't comment on the menu. It's an old converted church and it's a bit barn like inside. Lots of tables so probably looking for passing bus trips some comfy coaches next to the coffee counter. Only criticism would be it was cool inside, it probably costs a small fortune to heat and its too early in the season to have the heating on full.

Uninterested staff, cold food, cold restaurant. We thought we would try this restaurant on passing as it was Mother's Day. The restaurant is pretty dated and a bit tacky with Braveheart swords and music playing. I guess aimed at tourists. We ordered fish dishes and were told they had no Tartar Sauce. Which chef cannot make a quick Tartar sauce? They had mayonnaise as an alternative. The chips were dreadful, cold and overcooked. Clearly reheated from before. Steamed veg was watery. The fish was reasonable but spoiled by everything else. Staff Uninterested. It is a real shame because the location and building itself are lovely. I thought these types of places were a thing of the past. Will not be back.

Thought we'd give this place a look as we hadn't been in before, but we weren't best impressed. I had the chicken burger - the chicken was really tough and the bun was dry as if it had been sitting out for a couple of days. My partner's mediterranean tart was a bit better, but the sweet potato chips were pretty much cold. The worst part was that despite being more or less the only people in the place when we arrived, it still took nearly an hour for our food to arrive, with no forewarning or apology.

Decidedly average, everyone at the table agreed. Decor was tacky and obviously aimed at tourists, also was not the warmest everyone kept their jumpers on

This is my second time visiting amazing food both times . Friendly staff very helpful, and the rums are fantastic. I had the tomato soup starter and sea bass main .

Stopover in campervan. Very friendly. "Village store" cabin in carpark. Described as aire, not sure which services they provide, as we didn't need anything so didn't ask. Such lovely staff, sure they would have helped in any way possible. Highly recommend.

The recommended cream of broccoli soup did not disappoint. BLT was similarly excellent. Lovely pint of Arrochar Alps Lager. Not only dog friendly, but they have a menu for dogs.

Lovely setting and friendly people but not quality food

Went there because was literally the only place near the station and was convenient while waiting for the train. Not sure why this place has so many positive reviews, all I could see/taste was basic food with low attempt to make it taste good. Steak toastie was awful, barely could chew the meat and the salad which came with was made with most likely out of date salad mix-considering the colour of it The atmosphere is great, good looking pub near the main road and the Loch but that’s all. The prices are also way too higher for the size of the portion

Auf der Suche nach einem guten Essen in Tarbet sind wir im Slanj Restaurant fündig geworden. Das Restaurant ist in einer ehemaligen Kirche untergebracht und bietet eine gemütliche und einladende Atmosphäre. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Wir haben uns sofort willkommen gefühlt. Wir haben uns natürlich für das Haggis entschieden, ein traditionelles schottisches Gericht. Das Haggis war perfekt zubereitet und hat uns sehr gut geschmeckt. Wir können das Slanj Restaurant uneingeschränkt empfehlen.

Food was stunning. Haggis Pakoras are amazing, the beef in the pie just fell apart and the cheesecake lovely. Staff all friendly, plenty of parking and the building itself is impressive. It was nearly full when we were there but the tables are all well spaced. If you're in the area well worth a visit. 2 adults, 5 dishes and a good NZ white £75. Superb value.

Such a cozy place. Didn’t expect to find good food after staying at the next door hotel 😄 Really sweet owners/staff. The fish n chips were perfect after a cold day of hiking and the visit definitely made our stay in Tarbet better.

We passed this on our way to our hotel, which we stayed in for one night on our way through Loch Long. We rang up and reserved a table, which was easy, and staff were friendly when calling. We had Haggis Pakora and soup to start, both of which were lovely. We both had the Steak Pie as the main, which was fantastic. The amount of meat inside was staggering and tasted amazing. Reasonably priced and service was excellent. 👍🏻

An old church gives home to the Slanj and once you’re inside the experience keeps being special. In a very positive way of course. Food, service and location are just awesome and not at all overpriced. Come here after a nice hike at Loch Lomond. Bring your dog. They’re welcomed just you are. There’s even a dog menu 😀
