Booked a pitch for 2 days in our motorhome. Easy to book, texts from staff were helpful and informative when booking. Nothing was too much trouble. Although next to a train line, the noise was not intrusive, it is a nice peaceful site. Hedges around the pitches were nicely maintained. Delighted that there was live entertainment on the Saturday night, the excellent Cardee. Pub is great, plenty of choice. No food but able to order takeaway for delivery to site. Again the staff were helpful and welcoming. There's fishing on site (although the weather was awful so we will need to go back to try it 😊). Well worth a visit, would highly recommend.

Stayed here bank holiday weekend whilst working at Cadwell. The site itself is ok, nice views and the lake is very pretty, facilities are clean & showers hot - need modernising but being clean is all that really matters. Didn’t go in the pub, except for checking in as we didn’t have time so I can’t express a review on that. The downside to the site is the tent pitches are dangerously close and not within regulations at all. The pitches are small squares marked out with spray paint on the ground. If there was a fire, the lot would go up. Health & safety need to sort this. We luckily only brought our smaller tent with us but if we had brought the bigger family one we wouldn’t have even fit it on the pitch. Cars are to park behind the pitches and are literally nose to nose and crammed in because there is that little an amount of room. Noise rules are not enforced at all. We didn’t sleep all weekend (not the best when we were actually there for work rather than a holiday) because the groups of people were up till 3 & 4am with very loud music and shouting & balling and falling out between them. I’m all for people having fun on holiday, we do too, and we met some lovely people in the caravans on the same part as us, but it’s a family site and some consideration needs to be had for other people on the site and the staff need to be enforcing what it says are the rules of their site. Could be a great site with some changes and improvements.

The pub is serving beer from a mysterious source and closes at 22.00 every night, still hiding behind Covid! It’s a pointless existence and if you thinking of camping next door to go to the pub forget it!! Rubbish!!!

Well I don't really know where to start only that the camping site there should be closed down. It was disgusting. The toilet block needs condemning. It was never cleaned in the 2 days we could stand been there. There was spider's over spider's the showers where mouldy. The toilets where brown all but 2 and they where broken and mucky. The site is right next to a train track with frat trains going all night every hr so no sleep. The pond is full of weed so u can't fish (only on 2 pegs) and that is near the overflowing bin. And then when night hits there is days everywhere. The full place is like a junk yard and they have the cheap to charge u for electric. Which is very over run. We complained to the cleaner but got nowhere. I booked it on pitch up and they have removed it. But never got my money back. These are the pictures of the side and believe me it was bad.i have more but will only let me put 10 on. I don't even want to give it 1 star but I have to as it won't do any less.

Having visited this place and read some of the negative reviews I can honestly say most of it is true. The facilities are not up to standard. The pub is dated and the tables are sticky. The camping pitches are covered in sand. The locals were drunk and aggressive when we visited. However this place does have potential and it is obvious the owners are spending some money improving things such as the toilet facilities and rules regarding the fishing. I feel this place has reached a point where it either cuts ties with the awful locals that drink and intimidate the staying guests or accepts its a local and continue to provide for these people as it previously has done. We won't visit again purely due to the screaming, shouting and threats heard in the early hours from the 'regulars' who are quick to remind paying guests they have more rights than them.We can't comment on the food as we didn't eat here and the pub wasn't welcoming with small children due to the loud sweary locals so we can not comment on that

The campsite:So me, my sister, our pet dog and mother were camping for one night during the weekend. On arrival we gave in our money and had the choice to choose the plot to set our gear down.we had to take up two plots due to having one giant tent and two small tents. The location was not bad due to having a pond not to far by to walk by or going fishing in, however what took all of us by surprise was something we did not come across in any other reviews, the campsite is right on the side of a train track! and the trains go by are rather small passenger trains with 2 carriages or a big cargo train with 15 to 20 carriages of cargo, However they did not carry on through the night (Thank the lord)The residents were very nice and helpful. As me and my sister were putting up are tent a man staying the caravan in the plot over to us offered us a cuppa, meanwhile another women offered us to borrow her hammer so we could hammer are wind braker's down. However down side was the toilets that are for the campers. They were filthy causing all of us to use the pub toilets, but once the pub was shut in the night the women's toilets were lock only to be opened with a number code that had not been given to us on arrival so throughout the night we had to hold it in till the pub was back open. The PubThe pub is very small and too me look very unclean I can not give anymore information about the pub due to having food outside cos we had a dog with us.I'm just going to warn you now, don't order food from here cos honestly the chef was one angry person coming out serving the food. However we all realized that the waitress and the staff were very rude and did not care if they were rude. My mum had asked for the menu and the waitress responded in a rude tone giving all the food that was not available, which was most the food on the menu. However we were able to find something we could eat and my mum and sister went to order why I looked after the dog. My mum and sister came back laughing once they heard the chef say "I can not be bothered defrosting a fish for them". however it got worse, once the food arrived with both the chef and the same waitress that served us. The chef literately threw the gammon at my sister before storming back. My sister said to the waitress "what's her problem" only to get daggers from her, however my sister returned the daggers back (if looks could kill aye). OverallOverall the campsite is fine and bearable for anyone, location is fine and the people who stay can be very friendly however I would highly recommend to be prepared if you want food from that pub cos all you will get back is a rude waitress and a angry chef that would even scare sir Ramsay himself. I would recommend the campsite to my friends only to tell them to avoid the pub on the site.

The award? My award for the dirtiest, most disgusting pub I've ever been in during my lifetime. We were on a countryside walk and decided to call in for a quick half. As we took our drinks, one of the 'regulars', clearly drunk, was using the filthiest language imaginable to his audience of two. I politely asked if he'd be kind enough to refrain from swearing in front of my wife. Remarkably, he denied it until his audience (I'm reluctant to call them his mates) confirmed it. We sat at a table and as we placed our hands and arms on the table, noticed a 'sticky' feeling as we removed them. Ugh. This table had been wiped, but not actually cleaned with detergent in a long, long time. The pub is dirty, dilapidated and the decor is untouched since about 1984. This type of establishment simply can't be of this world for much longer, surely. No wonder that it only ever has one car parked outside.

Just had a great weekend camping at the Skipworth Arms. I had been there about 12 months ago and found the site to be clean tidy and extremely friendly, so after reading the comments on here I decided to go back and have another look. To my surprise there has been a lot of work carried out and it was looking even better. Stuart and Sue the family owners were really friendly and the food was excellent, I had the mixed grill. Stuart was working on a new toilet and shower block, which when it's finished will make a huge difference to the camping side of there business. I do feel sorry for Stuart and Sue and family because it does look like they have become victims on trip advisor with no right to reply. Please people I travelled from Liverpool to check this out, go yourselves and make your mind up, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Just one more quick comment, the Skipworth Arms don't do weddings never have done and probably never will.

We have just had a fantastic weekend at the Skipworth Arms Moortown .After reading the reviews I must admit I was a bit dubious about the place but decided to try it after a friend said it was good, and am I glad I did.On arrival we went into the pub and was met by Sue who explained to us were we was to be sited and explained the rules of the campsite which BTW was just the usual campsite rules. we then set up the caravan and was very impressed with the site all hard standing with electric near the fishing pond and the pub I thought I was in heaven. We then decided to have a dangle in the pond and we saw some decent size carp swimming about, after a few hours of good fishing I decided to have a quick shower and get some food. The shower block was a bit basic only 1 shower but it was clean and the water was hot and the site is in the middle of erecting a new shower block on the campsite.Anyway off to the pub for some food decent menu good prices so we ordered our food I just fancied Sausage Egg and chips the rest had cheese and brocoli pasta bake , braised steak with chips and a mixed grill, the barmaid brought us our drinks and about 15 mins later Sue brought out our meals and what meals they was they were huge and very tasty .By this time the artist started to entertain in the main bar area so off we went to see ,carnt remember his name Howard something but he was good looked and sang a lot like Neil Diamond. The pub was quite busy as the campsite was fairly full and we had a good old sing song few beers Great night was had by all.If you want a good friendly family campsite with good food , entertainment and friendly helpfull staff the this is the place to visit>I dont know where the bad reports stayed but it was definatly not at the Skipworth Arms we will be back there as often as we can Thank you Stuart and Sue for a great time see you soon

OMG AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!! Is all I can say about this place!! As someone who has been brought up and worked in catering/hospitality most my life I would be extremely embarrassed and ashamed to say I work here never mind being the owner of this establishment!!! Let me start with our arrival this table had been booked a couple of weeks ago for 11 of us. On arrival we entered the what seemed to be bar side. 2 of our children were standing in the walk way while we were trying to figure out where it was that we should be sitting and the cook came storming out of the kitchen carrying food shouting and I do mean shouting at our 2 children and another child not in our party to get out the way, she then retreated to the kitchen and a few minutes later returned to inform us our table was round the other side of the bar and she directed us. The table was set out nicely and menu/specials look very nice. As myself, partener and son had travelled a nearly 5 hour journey from Scotland to see our friends we were rather hungry and looking forward to our meals as were the rest of our party! It ended up that there was an additional 2 so we added another table to ours which wasn't a problem as we seemed to be the only table booked in for food. The women and children Sat down while the men stood at the bar ordering drinks once that had been done and everyone had decided what they were eating we had to write down our own order and then handed it to the bar man, he asked for payment then which we found a bit odd and said we would pay at the end as it would be split between us and we would more than likely be ordering sweets. We all Sat down and carried on while the food was being prepared. Our food arrived in dribs and drabs!!!:-Kids chicken nuggets and chips was fineKids prawn cocktail and garlic bread was fine1 x gammon and all the trimmings fine1x medium to well sirloin was fineThen it all went down hill:-*A side of what we were told was breaded garlic mushrooms came out this turned out to be scampi!!!!*lasagne turned out to be cottage pie with some pasta and cheese placed on top*cheese and broccoli pasta bake was a tuna pasta bake* braised steak came with chips was meant to be mash and veg and only one was served 2 were ordered* The Cottage pie had no veg*scampi just came out on a side dish no salad or chips* half the dishes had home cut chips as stated and half were frozen *we asked for a rare and a blue steak both came out well done both were sent back and when they eventually came back out the what was supposed to be rare look as though it was defrosted in the microwave then boiled iv never seen anything like it and it was also well done!!! The blue steak came out medium/well I mean come on its not rocket science!!When we were complaining and sending food back the attitude of the waitress was appalling she huffed, puffed and basically threw the food in front of us.We asked to speak with the manager the cook who was the owner came out she was also very rude and clearly drunk, wasn't very apologetic and didn't seem to care at all. During what I can only call a shambles one of our party had gone into the kitchen to see what the problem was and said the hygiene standard of the kitchen was appalling and unorganized with boxes everywhere and no space to work on which she pointed out to the cook/owner and she clearly did not care!!!! In the end we actually walked out with most plates not even touched and did not pay the bill, on leaving we made our feelings clear to the bar staff who also could not have cared less we were made to feel unwelcome and as if we had done something wrong, I have never experienced anything like this and can not believe they hold a food licence as clearly they are unable to supply a good standard of service!! To top it all off when we left and went on to another pub 10 minutes away there was a wedding on and we got talking to the bride who informed us that she was supposed to be having her wedding at the Skipworth Arms but they called her 8 weeks before her wedding day to cancel the event as they had a band already booked and were expecting over 100 locals to come so we're not prepared to cancel that, as u can imagine the bride was extremely angry as all the invitation had already gone out, but they had a lucky escape if u ask me as this place really is the worst place I could ever imagine to have a wedding!!!!

Arrived for a booked meal with family and friends. Half had travelled a few hours to get. We were the only people eating table of twelve. The staff were rude, we wrote our order down and half the meal came out fifteen minutes before the rest, the orders were incorrect which was met with eye rolling and tutting ( next time read the order) we repeatedly corrected them on items brought out only for further wrong meals to be presented. More tutting , door slamming and curt remarks. The food we did get was unpleasant. Not as described. This was a very upsetting ordeal as we had gathered as a friend is very unwell , it marred the evening. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Truly shocking way to treat customers. We ended up having to leave after approx forty minutes ( beyond the first meal) as some of the meals had still not been brought out and we were hungry.
