What a lovely place, nice menu and a waitress not too busy to make sure that you had all you needed. My cousin is a celiac, so we have to be selective in our eateries, these guys catered for her with a great choice of meals down to the puddings. Very busy and having to turn folk away or ask them to wait.. Toilets clean and sweet smelling too👍👍👍

Discovered this Cafe while holidaying in the area. What a great find! Had delicious, deeply-filled sandwiches for take away, freshly prepared, very good value for maney. Staff super friendly and welcoming, all other things like cakes, coffees, freshly baked bread and items on the special menu all looked very intriguing, too! Hope to be back soon. Would highly recommend!

Avoid wild mushrooms on sourdough toast. Slimy, uncooked mushrooms, not best quality or freshness. Flavoured with Cash and Cary Garlic Powder that will stay in your mouth long after you've eaten. Such a simple dish but totally ruined.

Easily the best lunch I’ve ever had. All the food is so fresh and extremely well executed. The sandwiches are filled properly (hard to find these days) and the soup is always brilliant. Great selection of cakes/pastries as well and the coffee is hard to beat! This is the standard for lunch places I have visited and is the true epitome of “simple food, done well”. Staff are excellent as well - very friendly and welcoming. Absolutely excellent little cafe.

Visited this delightful cafe/restaurant after a two hour walk along the river Esk. We were welcomed by a friendly waitress and seated at an outside table. My other half opted for a King Prawn & Chorizo salad and I chose a Smoked Salmon & Prawn salad with a side of fries. As usual my partner and I share our plates. We both agreed how fresh, well presented and tasty our dishes arrived with freshly cooked fries. Looking forward to our next visit.

My partner called up on a Sunday morning to book a table for breakfast at 11.30. We arrived a little early at 11.20 and were met by a friendly lady. We were handed the lunch menu and we asked if there was a breakfast menu only to be told we had just missed out on breakfast but lunch would be served from around 11.45. We didn’t want to cause a fuss so ordered from the lunch menu. Our food didn’t arrive until 12.30pm and we were so hungry by then. Whilst waiting I checked the website and noticed breakfast is served till 11.30 and my partner specifically mentioned we were coming for breakfast when booking. It’s just disappointing as two tables had breakfast food arrive after we had been sat for 15 mins or so so I’m not sure why they couldn’t have accommodated us, not to mention the fact we ordered before 11.30. The burger and sausages and mash were excellent and the coffee was great too but not exactly what you want for your first meal of the day. If our expectations had been managed we would have either went somewhere else or opted for a cake or something rather than sitting with a hungry 4 year old for over an hour.

First time at Sinclairs for lunch today. Loved the quirky decor and plenty of choice on a well thought out menu. Good light options such as sandwiches and soups as well as more substantial plates. Husband had chicken and bacon ciabatta and I plumped for egg mayonnaise on brown. Generously filled sandwiches and the bread on both was lovely. Delicious. Coffee was also very good and couldn’t resist a slice of carrot cake to takeaway. Staff were friendly and welcoming and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.

We arrived in Edzell at 4.40 on Sunday afternoon, having completed a walk to Mount Keen in rather less than summery weather, so we were all keen to have a hot drink with something sweet to accompany it. When we saw that the cafe closed at 5 pm we were doubtful whether we would be served but the staff in Sinclair‘s couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming. We ordered tea and coffee and I had a delicious piece of chocolate cake. Others in the party ordered scones, which were served warm, accompanied by homemade raspberry jam. Another couple came into the cafe even later than us and they too were served. It’s so nice to experience such a hospitable and friendly welcome.

I had not been given cutlery so went to help myself. I asked the waitress if I could take the cake for my husband. I was advised that it was sitting there and we would get it in a minute. Having communicated and agreed on the two vegan options (Risotto and Soup) with Sinclair's the day before, we arrived and yet were all given regular menus with nothing being mentioned about the pre-chosen vegan options. This caused confusion and my daughter ordered the regular vegetable skewers instead of the pre-chosen soup. The waiter did not say a thing, and so after reminding my Daughter that she had pre-chosen, I went up to the counter to change her order. I stood for a good couple of minutes while the young waiter was talking to the Chef and female member of staff. The female member of staff was shaking her head and it was extremely obvious that they were discussing my daughter's vegan order. WHY didn't the waiter say anything when we sat down and why did he give our vegan guests a regular menu and why did he say "Yeah" when my daughter ordered the skewers? It would have saved a LOT of awkwardness and embarrassment on my part if he had!!

I had high hopes about this new evening meal option in Edzell. Upon booking I was told to look out on Facebook for the menu to be posted up that week, as promised it appeared online in the Wednesday and myself and the rest of the family were able to contemplate what we might like to taste. We arrived on time at 7pm which isn’t very late for a Saturday night but the place lacked atmosphere maybe some soft music would be good. The staff took a while to come over and it was unsure what to do with our bottles we had bought with us for BYOB, after 10mins someone offered us an ice bucket. Next we ordered our meal however we were disappointed that out if the three mains they were already sold out of one option! Very disappointing for a small bistro and such a small menu. The food was prompt in coming out and the staff were friendly enough, perhaps not quite there yet with the evening service

Previously, I've reviewed Sinclair's after coffee and scones. This time four of us went for lunch. We all had soup, then three cooked lunches and one sandwich. The two soups on the menu board we both rated excellent, and there was plenty of bread and butter in the basket. The sandwich looked really good: thick cut brown bread (pre-sliced, alas!) with a complementary level of filling, side salad and root veggie crisps. One had a small portion of smoked duck breast and black pudding. Rated as excellent 'but...', the 'but' being there were no vegetables, just meat on the plate. One had Cumberland sausage and mash with caramelised onions. Plenty on the plate, but again no veg. And I had the slow braised beef stew, which came with some very tasty cous-cous and cold courgette slices in minted yoghurt. Before I ate, I thought what an odd combination, but it worked. And the portion was almost more than I could eat.

This was our first visit to Sinclair's Larder but hope we'll be there again soon. The atmosphere was good. There was a good turnout of families, friends, couples and we were served by pleasant, attentive waitresses. Although the place is small we didn't feel crowded, just part of a pleasant group enjoying good food and service. There was a good menu - I had smoked fish as my main course which was excellent. My husband enjoyed the roast beef - a generous helping of rib-eye. He did say that my Yorkshire puddings were better but he's a kind man and it was our 55th Wedding Anniversary! We would have enjoyed a glass of wine but I understand they are still waiting to be given a license. The coffee was the best I've had in a very long time and we were able to take away some of their excellent lemon tart and carrot cake which we couldn't have managed to eat at the time after their generous portions but enjoyed later. Look forward to a return visit - will never pass Edzell without at least some of their coffee (and cake).

We went to Sinclair's larder last Sunday for lunch with our family. We all ordered different meals from the menu and none of us were disappointed with our choices. The service was excellent, staff very polite and helped in every way they could. We would certainly return to sample some more of the extensive menu. Lots of home baking on offer, Afternoon teas are available etc. The premises was very clean and beautifully decorated. Certainly worth a visit.

The Sunday roast looked really good and my family loved it, but my brother and I had the wild boar burger..... it was lovely. Very moist, firm, tasty.... I have never eaten Boat and was glad I tried it. Came with sweet potato crisps and side salad. Highly recommended

Visited with friends for Sunday lunch. Menu had some lovely options and there were more specials on the blackboard. Decided on the roast beef dinner - tasted lovely - would have liked more gravy but that is personal preference. There are desserts plus a wide choice of cakes and tray bakes. Went for the chocolate honeycomb slice with finished things off nicely. A good range of coffees and teas also available. Think we'll try the afternoon tea next time. All in all a very pleasant afternoon. It is quite small though and it was busy so best to book. Seating also available outside when the weather improves.

What a lovely little restaurant. Stopped in for coffee on such a rainy day on our way home. Would definitely go back. Coffee was lovely as were our fresh scones. Small and friendly place. Will pop on again next time I pass through.

Came for coffee and cake after hard ride. Good service, we had nice chairs by a woodturning stove. Wide selection of cakes and traybakes.

The view from the dining room was lovely and the staff were super friendly and welcoming, unfortunately, the food was not great. The lasagne tasted like a poor-quality frozen ready meal and the mac 'n' cheese was not very nice. The chips were good, though. Unfortunately, for several days afterwards I had an upset stomach. Apparently, due to staff shortages, their menu was reduced and maybe they didn't have the qualified staff who usually prepare the food. Maybe we were just unfortunate and did not sample their food at its best.

Friendly staff, good service. Nice to sit outside and look out over the harbor. They do not serve food anymore, but they do have an ice cream bar daytime. Fair prices on the beer.

Good fresh food, although the menu isn't very varied if your looking for lunch It's in a lovely setting and there's a small play park for children. Dogs are allowed and well catered for. There's plenty parking but this is where I felt badly let down. There is no allocated disabled parking! There was a challenging walk on my crutches from the carpark to the cafe as the surface isn't very wheelchair friendly. With the space available in sure there is an easy remedy and I'm sure we'll come back for more of the good food and see if they resolve the parking for the disabled.

I've visited this cafe many times as we stayed outside Alyth numerous times throughout the year and more so when my sisters cancer was terminal. The reason I'm back today is to visit where their ashes were scattered as both my mom and sister are scattered here together. (We live in Wales) I would agree with many other reviews on here that this is not the friendliest cafe considering how lovely it is. I will point out that most times when the younger girls serve, they're very pleasant. I was here on Monday for tea and cake and the young blonde lady serving was absolute lovely and gave me the WiFi password, as I've also had on previous trips when I've asked. Nothing worse sitting on your own, Billy no mates and can't use your phone. Today I'm stretching and getting signal on and off. Anyhow, I came In today, Wednesday 16 October, no hello.. nothing. Sat down and rude woman appeared with pen and notepad..no hello.. just are you ready to order or do you need another minute? No smile, no pleasantries. I ordered I then went up to look for the password only for her to tell me there isn't one.. you can't have WiFi as we don't have it. I said it's showing up .. and I got it on Monday. No you didn't as we don't give it out... if everyone uses it our tills don't work.. Really ??? 🤔🤔😶🌫️ I said once again I got it on Monday. - no you didn't !! OK.. seemingly I'm a liar now 🙄🙄😔 Honestly I doubt I'll be back here as clearly the same woman, older, glasses and not a scottish accent I don't believe, Blue in her hair this time. You'd think after many complaints they'd do something about this.. unless she's the actual owner.. which sadly I hope not.. She does not make visiting conditions pleasant .
