Simpsons Tea Room in Aberdeenshire

We were recommended to go to Simpson’s by the wonderful staff at Peterhead Prison Museum, who told us they make the best soup there. Cold, hungry and excited at this prospect, we headed to the tearoom. Sadly the soup was off the menu for me, as it was ham & lentil and I’m vegetarian. Disappointing. My cousin enjoyed the soup. Instead, I ordered a cheese and pineapple toastie. I was asked if I wanted the crisps, salad and coleslaw. I politely declined the coleslaw but relished the prospect of the crisps and salad. The toastie was delicious. Imagine my surprise when my salad consisted of a very few bits of chopped iceberg lettuce, ONE slice of cucumber and HALF a cherry tomato! Not only that - just THREE crisps were placed on my plate. I’ve always wondered what happened to that other half a cherry tomato …….

Best tasting tray bakes and home bakes around. Despite them being super busy when we arrived we were seated so quickly. All of our group (5 adults and 3 children) wanted different things. I opted for an apple and cinnamon scone which was to die for. Others had strawberry tarts, pancakes, fruit scones and savoury treats of cheese and onion toasties and a plain cheese sandwich for one kiddie. Drinks of tea/coffees/chocolate milkshakes and sprite. Service was prompt, and as always, so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Simpsons never lets us down!

A nice little tea room, serving most things you want for tea, lunch or afternoon high tea. Staff friendly and helpful. Food excellent quality.

Loved this busy cafe in Peterhead. The selection of food is great - try the cheese and pickle toasty and scones. Staff and management provide excellent customer service. Can’t suggest any improvements. Would highly recommend.

Lovely tea room in Peterhead. They quickly accommodated us (family of 9) and were welcoming and attentive. Food and drinks were warming, just what we needed on a cold day.

After an enjoyable but cold visit to Peterhead Prison Museum we needed something hot and tasty - warm welcome, delicious bacon rolls (plentiful and nice soft bun), pot of tea and a fancy piece - delicious and well priced too. Staff were lovely too, thank you

Carol, Sheena, Rhona, Brian and the rest of the team at Simpson’s Tea Room are certainly some of the most important in Peterhead during lunchtime. Simpsons is a Peterhead institution, with delicious soups, sandwiches and the finest of fine pieces (I dream of the maltesar crunch). The tea room hasn’t changed in years, and that’s what is so special about it. Whenever you go in you can expect warm service, hot tea, and good food. You will always leave Simpsons feeling like you’ve just caught up with some old friends and your soul has been nourished for it.

Stopped here for a bite to eat on our road trip round the North East of Scotland. We were driving round Peterhead to find somewhere and there was literally nothing there. Found this place next to the free for 1 hour car park in the town centre. Had a nice coffee and toasted sandwich finished off with a banana sponge cake! Interior looks dated and popular with old ladies but not a bad place to have a break.

Eine sehr gute Atmosphäre. Wir können dieses Teehaus nur wärmstens weiterempfehlen. Eine sehr freundliche Bedienung hat uns sofort einen schönen Platz in dem gut besuchten Gastraum zugewiesen. Die Bestellung ging sehr rasch und wir wurden auch prima beraten, nachdem wir noch niemals in einem echten Schottischen Tearoom zu Gast waren. Wir empfehlen besonders die hausgemachten Scones. Besonders schön fanden wir daran, dass dieses Gebäck nur ganz gering gezuckert ist, so dass das wirkliche Gebäckaroma + Gewürz bestens zur Geltung kommt. Zuckerjunkies können sich aber nach belieben mit hausgemachter ? Marmelade/Jam nachsüßen bzw. tüchtig Butter und/oder Sahne draufgeben. Ein süßer Traum.

Always excellent no matter what choice you make. The soups, toasties baled potatoes are all excellent. The homebakes, scones pancakes everything is delicious A nice warm atmosphere in a cosy surroundings. Definitely not to be missed on a visit to Peterhead The staff are friendly and welcoming sometimes you will have 10 minute wait for a table but that is certainly worth waiting for

A lovely place in the centre of town for a quick snack an afternoon tea and light meals Food exceptional, soup homemade and very tasty. The home bakes are a treat to savour over a lovely pot of tea. Scones are an experience you need to try. Staff friendly and very helpful. Payment by cash only can be bothersome to the regular bank card user.

I was in Peterhead and somehow had allowed it to get to 3:00 without having had any lunch, so I was keenly checking out the options. Broad Street was very quiet for a Saturday afternoon, but I found this place which looked welcoming. The staff were very friendly and it was clear that locals used it regularly. I ordered a ham and cheese toastie, which came quickly and tasted really nice, served with some salad and coleslaw. I wolfed that down quickly and was eyeing up the scones and traybakes at the same time. There was a choice of about six different things and I was strongly tempted by at least three of them. I went for the malteser fudge which was very nice. I believe it is cash only, but there is an ATM across the road at the Clydesdale Bank. The person in charge was chatty when I was paying. It's a nice place and worth a return visit.

The center of peterhead is not synonymous with inviting. But this little family run tea room is. The atmosphere is refined country kitchen style. The staff are very pleasant and you can get a nice toasted sandwich. Where the cafe sets itself apart is in its traybakes, which I have never had anywhere else, because they are their own original recipes. The size of the bake is large and it's not unusual to see somebody 'keeping a bit for later'. The cafe will also let you just buy a bake to take away and I believe they will also do catering.

Called after several years. Lovely atmosphere. Good scone and best latte I’ve tasted. Very efficient and pleasant staff. Tables cleared quickly. Spotless.

What a fab wee tea room. We had toasties and finished off with a beautiful tray bake. So so fresh and tasty!! Best I've had in a very long time. Such polite friendly and attentive staff. Good atmosphere. Will definitely return.

This cafe is always very busy. The food is very well presented. There is such a good choice and is very reasonably priced.

Tray bakes, scones and cakes all on display. Very clean tearoom and well supported by locals. Prompt service, staff are miserable but the tea tasted good and our pancake with icecream, cinnamon scone and square of apple traybake tasted ok and cost £10.60

The walking group I am a member of often visit Peterhead and after our planned walk end up at Simpsons tea room . There is always a cheery welcome from the staff and the coffee and scones which are freshly baked are very tasteful .

Simpsons me fue recomendado por una señora en el garaje, ya que tenía un par de horas para pasar en Peterhead mientras espera para algunos trabajos a realizar. Se llena bastante, pero me las arreglé para encontrar una buena mesa para mí. El personal era muy amable y el servicio era rápido aunque no me pareció apresurado después de tener algo de almuerzo. Yo tenía un horneado tattie que se presentó con algunas ensaladas y disfrutamos de un té de frutas después.

This is our favourite place for lunch in Peterhead. Always fresh, tasty food, and lovely staff. Sometimes have to wait for a table, but always worth it!

Went for morning coffee to this busy cafe . Friendly service and a lengthy menu. Good savouries and selection of cakes ,with nice coffees and tea. Staff happy for you to linger over your drinks. Recommend!

This is an old fashioned lovely place to have lunch or just coffee and a fine cake or cookies. The staff are always helpful and friendly, the food is excellent quality and price.

Always have a nice lunch here, always too full for cake so buy to take away! The fancy pieces are amazing! I also ordered lots of fancy pieces for my wedding present showing and they went down a treat!

Nice food here although I am vegetarian so got excited at the prospect of sweet potato soup but when I asked if stock was vegetable waitress had to admit she didn't know but didn't think so and couldn't find out either. In this day where establishments should know everything in their food for food allergies etc I was surprised. I declined and had a cheese toastie which was nice.

We usually use this for our morning coffee. It is handy for the car parks and the service is always good.

Excellent service every time you visit. Even when they are busy they make you feel special. Menu selection is great and always a very generous portion.

A relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The staff are helpful but don't rush you. This restuarant is very popular so you may have to wait for a table at busy times. There is a good variety of food on offer for coffee or a light lunch.

We needed a quick pit stop and found ourselves in this old fashioned café - pleasant, friendly staff and very clean - but we timed our visit badly as the run on bacon rolls meant they had one bun left (ironic given they are directly opposite a baker's shop). Ketchup was limited to one sachet each! When it came to pay, we had to have a rummage for cash between us as they don't accept card payment - fair enough, but a discreet sign would be useful. Don't think we'll hurry back.

Excellent soup and sandwich place! The decor is lovely and inviting. Small and cozy the staff is very sweet and friendly. NO rush to eat and leave at all. Food was very good.

This is a lovely little Tea Room located in Peterhead where many locals appear to frequent. The soup is always lovely with a personal favourite being the cream of broccoli and coliflower. Having asked to take away a couple cakes the staff were happy to assist me in choosing amongst the extensive selection. They also informed me that as a Tea Room they provide cakes for the customers and will even let people come in and order a selection! I believe that this is very nice of them as they are by no means obliged to sell the cakes to people who come in off the street and their policy of a mixture of cakes insures that their is a wide variety for every customer! I see another reviewer has complained about this and I wonder if they didn't understand this? I hope this will help others!Overall this little busy tea room has staff with lovely personalities and banter who are always willing to do the best they can for you!

We stopped here for lunch. Soup was fantastic and toasties were delicious. Even managed a wee scone and traybake to take away. Service was pleasant and the cafe is definitely worth a visit. If you need to wait to be seated, wait!

We went in for a fly cup and we did not feel welcome at all,the staff looked down at me and my grandmother! We didn't get served the things we wanted either and were told we couldn't just have one it had to be a mixture! WILL NOT BE BACK!!

reasonably priced, polite service with a friendly atmosphere. scones were tasty and fresh with homemade jam, hot chocolate was quite fine. not much of a view overlooks carpark. otherwise to be recommended.

We were looking for a quick snack while passing through Peterhead, and Simpsons was just the job. Clean and friendly and the toasted sandwiches were very nice. Scones looked fantastic, but sadly did not have space to try them!!

An unexpected treat when we came across this lovely little traditional teashop. Tea and scones delicious and very reasonable price. We were quite tickled by the old fashioned service and surroundings. Do not walk past this delightful tea shop.

We went there for afternoon tea it was lovely their scones are delicious we really enjoyed it really friendly staff and lovely tearoom.

My wife and I dropped in here for a quick snack. The tea room was very busy and we had to wait on a table which was no problem. Friendly staff and pleasant service. We just had home made scones with butter and jam, which were delicious. We will return to this tea room in the near future and would definitely recommend.

Very friendly staff, lovely sandwiches, thick bread, soup is fresh and home made, great selection of tray bakes, scones etc.Does get really busy at lunch time and often people hang around the door waiting for a table, which can be off putting.Could be in need of a bit of modernisation decor wise but all in all, great service and food.

Would highly recommend Simpsons tearoom. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Food is fantastic. Never had anything I could have complained about. Love their soups, salads, toasties and quiche on Friday (never enough made as usually finished by 12.00?) and like to finish off with my tea/latte with a gorgeous "funcie peece" (fancy biscuit) from the trolley.

Have been going to Simpson's for years. It is the hidden gem of Peterhead. There's nowhere else in Peterhead that comes close to the high standard of food and service to be experienced here. Those who criticise the prices understand the price of everything but the value of nothing. Trust me.....people who know go to Simpson's.

For a tearoom I was shocked at the prices. Peterhead isn't a posh place so if they brought there prices down I'm sure they would get more customers.

Been going to Simpsons since I was a child and have never had a problem! Lovely light lunches and fantastic cakes. Would recommend this place for sure!

asked a local where a good place for lunch was and was pointed in the direction of Simpson's tea room. It was fantastic homemade food served by friendly staff. The Chicken and sweetcorn soup was the best I have ever tasted. the sandwiches were fresh and generously filled. The milkshake, coffee and cake I also indulged in was faultless too. Brilliant place and highly recommended

This little tea room is lovely place to satisfy your thirst if you are looking for a nice cup of tea or coffee without the fancy frills. Their cakes are to die for...yummy. Definitely a place to stop if you are ever in Peterhead.

Located in the town centre with parking near by. The homebakes are to die for! Best in the town by far. Make lovely sandwiches and toasties etc, but would be nice to see some hot meals on here too! Cute, comfortable little tea-room but sometimes require you to wait quite a while for a table to become available. Staff are all very professional and friendly too!

Best bacon bap, cooked to perfection as i requested. Even managed to share a fancy piece. Highly recommended. Best thre is in Peterhead service was excellent by their young staff. Will be back.

Husband and I go quite often, usually a weekend day. Simpsons is always busy- heaving often. Be prepared to queue- it's very popular. The fine pieces are great- tons of choices and all home made. Good choice of drinks, teas, coffees and excellent choice of lunch foods. We love their toasties- they come with salad and crisps!

The tearoom is excellent there baked potatoes are delicious and their tray bakes are Devine malteaser fudge being my favourite choice. Family & breastfeeding friendly.

Visited yesterday and was very impressed, quick friendly service, Food was excellent and not long to wait. The restaurant was clean and tidy and empty tables were cleaned up quickly. Well worth a visit. Prices were reasonably priced.

Was packed when I went in and found it hard to find a chair. Small but nice food is good but fancies are on the large side, so don't be planning on a meal for a few hours.

Visit Simpson's often - first impression’s on entering the premises is its clean, bright, and something I like that missing from most cafe’s today is table cloths - friendly staff - all the cakes/scone/food etc. served is homemade and excellent quality - this established family tea room would be the best place in Peterhead whether is a cup of tea, coffee or a snack and once visited you will keep coming back
