If zero was an option I’d take it. Serving staff were great but some looked like they were going through the motions. Asked for a panini and got an over fired French baguette. Very disappointed at the quality of the food and presentation. From now on Howdens is for me.

Simpsons has been a favourite of ours for many years , we have had breakfasts , lunches numerous times , and our favourite the Sunday carvery for which we travel 35 miles for , today however we were very disappointed with the roast beef it was extremely tough to the extent my wife gave up on it , all the trimmings were of the usual high standard but the meat left a lot to be desired , even I found cutting it was hard going and chewing it gave your jaws a hard workout . All in all for something we were really looking forward to turned out to be a very disappointing .

Just been for lunch to Simpsons and I was so disappointed. I ordered macaroni and cheese, and it turned out to be dry, untasty and a waste of money. There was no cheese sauce and given it was 1pm, I wondered if it had been sitting for a couple of hours. Simpsons was always a fantastic place to eat but this was poor.

I live near Inverness and visited Simpson's from when they first opened. However, I have been very ill for a few year's so hadn't been able to go , which upset me ! Love that place ! I made a huge effort a couple of week's ago and my husband took me . The food was delicious, as always and the Staff were efficient , polite and friendly. I was surprised to read some of the bad reviews because I have, always, found the whole eating and shopping experience very good. I used to go to their Garden Centre in Beauly with no restaurant and very much enjoyed going there but have to admit that we love their food. Definitely recommended!

I did some research for an afternoon tea in Inverness area, some options were not possible because of the period of the year. As Simpsons version looks promising on their website (as it also mentions gluten free (gf) is no problem) we went there. The area for afternoon tea is a separate part of the open space restaurant, with no option to enjoy the views outside. We were a party of four of which two need the gf option. When we were seated and the food arrived it was clear they were not prepared that both normal and gf afternoon tea together does not fit on the table we were seated: unprofessional. I include three pictures in this review, one from their website, one from a poster on their outside wall and one how it actual looked like. I am not saying the food was bad, but it had nothing to do with the information provided. We have had several Afternoon teas and the experience at Simpson does rate high with us. For us we will not be returning.

We went for breakfast on Saturday and the restaurant and shop are doing a great job with all the Covid rules. Sadly the food was very disappointing. Especially when you get bacon whilst the person plating it is telling another staff member she needs new bacon as all this bacon is burnt, not whole and bad quality! The toast was nice though!

My friend and I visited on Wednesday, we meet once every two months , the food is great highly recommend, but staff must have been having a bad day, on arriving we had to wait which was completely acceptable due to the pandemic but what we did not appreciate was the member of staff shouting back back get back behind the lines , there is a way of talking and a please and thank you won’t go a miss , then when paying my friend noticed she had no glass for her can of juice we asked the young woman her name was Emma , her reply was sharply the glasses are beside the cans , did you miss that , then she told us our table number we did not here due to the noise and also wearing masks , she walked away so I went up to ask again , she shouted 28 , a two and and an eight and walked over to the table and pointed , her tone was loud and rude , once we were seated she stamped her feet . The table beside us also noticed her manner and shook there head . I hope it was an off day , as said the food is amazing but have not been spoken to like that since school , rather disappointing.

Normally have a good visit to Simpsons, obviously havent been in a couple months and this is my first dine in experience since covid 19 measures have relaxed. Was looking at the panini menu today when a member of staff said " what is that" and pointed to my tattoo on my leg visible due to me wearing shorts. Stepped back and showed her as she went 'ughh why would you do that to yourself, disguisting". I understand it might not be to everyones taste but especially when im paying for a service i would expect them to keep opinions to themselves. Despite her comment that she has some tattoos herself i do think it was completely out of order for her to say what she said and i dont quite think why she thought it was acceptable. Didnt really process until i had already paid what she had said. If i had thought about i wouldve walked out. Definately tainted my experience today. Horrible staff member

The Restaurant has just reopened after lockdown and what a delight it is! Full English Breakfast for £6.99 including tea and toast, choose your six items which are served to you at your choice from the breakfast bar. Lots of amazing cakes to choose from. Socially distanced tables with them disinfected after each customer and I even watched the chairs being sprayed! Lots of advise on the one way system around the store with hand sanitisers. Clean toilets, lots of parking.

Visit the garden centre regularly, for both food and garden plants. Being earlier than usual, decided to have the vegetarian breakfast, vegan susages were tiny compared to the meat version, and on the whole not good value, very little on the plate and bizarrely it seems the 10 item breakfast, offers the customer much thicker toast. It was nice, just very poor value for money and when asking a member of staff what the vegan sausages were before we ordered, it seemed too much effort for her to find out but luckily her friendly colleague stepped in to explain.

I have, once again had to score as Average because of the gulf between Average and Very Good. TA - PLEASE ADD ‘GOOD’. The food was GOOD but the service was hit and miss. Bacon sandwich and bacon croissant prepared immediately on ordering and left on a hot plate whilst paninis were cooked, but then arrived at table after the paninis. The plates were hot but the food was like warm at the best. As with a lot of establishments, the food is served first and then chills whilst it takes an age to get drinks and pay. As I’ve said before, two people should split up your get one before the other and pay twice, or drink then eat or visa versa.

Stopped in for a breakfast recently. My wife had the Egg's Benedict which was a polar opposite to how it should be served!Cold plate, Cold muffin, Cold Hollindaise sauce and an overcooked cold poached egg. How could the chef get it so wrong? My cooked breakfast was not too bad but the potato scone (2x) was black and as hard as wood. Why would the chef think it was ok to send this to front of house and then why would the servers think it ok to serve? Total disconnect here on service quality.Really not good value at all! Stick with what you know and if your staff do ot have the skill set to understand that food should be hot and cooked properly then they are in the wrong game.

We have been going to Simpson’s restaurant for a good few years now but recently it’s gone downhill in my opinion. I ordered a chicken panini and the chicken was so hard to chew and had little flavour. Same goes for the bacon and Brie panini, not worth it. I also ordered a hot chocolate with all the luxurious treats on top (cream, marshmallows etc) and I was extremely disappointed to find the cream being massively over whipped so it was just one big clump of cream on top of my hot chocolate. Not only that, there was so much of it that by the time I got through the cream, there was less than half of the cup of actually hotel chocolate. Definitely will not be ordering that again, honestly if you’re going to order hot chocolate, just go for the plain one!

To describe Simpson's Garden Centre as a cafe is to do it a great diservice. The food is freshly cooked, huge in it's range and if an excellent quality. I dont know how they keep the standard so high for do long but it's very impressive. The portion sizes are considerable too so everyone will leave happy and with full bellies. The afternoon teas look cracking too. From kids to vegetarians to fussy fathers all came out having had a great meal. The Hunters Chicken with fresh veg was top notch! Be warned though, lunchtimes can be very very busy now which speaks volumes itself. Keep up the great work!

Visited here today with my dad whilst looking at fish and plants.Great place- can’t believe I’ve never been here before, I could have walked around for hours.Decided to have some lunch in their restaurant before we did some shopping in store, I have to say it is a beautiful restaurant. Well laid out, nice decor, clean and great views. They have a lot of really nice looking homebakes/cakes and the salad bar looks really good too. I did think about a salad as I like the idea you get to pick from the counter what you want to have for your salad (plenty choices too).Plenty of choice to choose from. We opted for the beef broth with brown bread and the chicken curry. One of the staff kindly put a food cover plate over the chicken curry whilst we were getting our drinks- a nice touch to keep it warm.We sat by the window which was a good choice. Great views! Also love the fact they have glass water dispensers (one with limes) and you can just help yourself. The beef broth was delicious, proper homemade hearty soup. Just what the doctor ordered. The accompanying bread was also very fresh. Unfortunately the chicken curry wasn’t too great. The curry itself was tasteless and bland. The chicken (Although plenty of it) was really dry and chewy which was a little disappointing but as we had already had soup which was delicious this wasn’t a problem. We weren’t able to eat it all due to the above comments. I would definitely visit again (I personally just wouldn’t order the chicken curry). Overall it was a good dining experience.

We were quickly shown to our table and asked if we want tea or coffee which swiftly arrived afterwards. The afternoon tea was well presented and hands down one of the best afternoon tea’s I’ve ever had! The sandwiches were really fresh and every cake we had was more delicious than the last. Well worth the £18 for two. The best part of our afternoon tea was our lovely waitress Wendy. She couldn’t have done more for us and after finding out we had travelled from Falkirk to have a child free weekend so told us to relax and take our time...it was lovely not to feel rushed. The food choice and quality is higher than the average on offer in this price bracket in Inverness... and the problem is everybody knows it! It is so busy and noisy that I can't think of a less relaxing place for lunch or coffee. It just keeps getting bigger! I often visit simpsons garden centre for a breakfast in their restaurant during the weekend and thought it was about time I contributed a review of this establishmentThe first thing you notice on entering the premises is the friendleness of the staff, always smiling and sociable, happy in their work which, while may sound cliched, does exude a sense of calm to the customer whether they are shopping or just popping in for the lovely fresh food they create in the glasshouse restaurantI have only ever eaten breakfast up till today but the rest of the cuisine, light bites and lunch, I have seen and even the menu looks appetising and amazingThe main breakfast servings which consist of the typical fry up include all the usual breakfast favourites, a regular breakfast of six items, of your choice, will cost you about six pounds, with the option of extras and a refill of beverage, all top quality and the fresh brewed coffee is better than most coffee shopsThey do have many other options for all meal times throughout the day and this afternoon I enjoyed the afternoon tea which included a selection of freshly made sandwiches, scones and cakes along with bottomless tea or filter coffee, the treats are laid on a very sweet little pub style wooden serving table and were absolutely gorgeous, Id definately have this againThe service in the restaurant goes above and beyond and the staff are always happy to help in anywayThe various shopping areas within the garden centre incorporate the obvious garden accessories with an extensive outdoor area, a home section which is not to be sniffed at and during the winter theyhave a christmas shop which I particularly adore and is magical in itself, prices are fair and the general atmosphere of the company is brilliant, just wish I could visit more often

Great effort by Simpsons Garden Centre with the introduction of modern breakfast items. Our choice today was the poached eggs, smashed avacado on sour dough bread whilst my husband enjoyed smoked salmon, scrambled egg on toasted bagel. Lets start with the poached eggs etc.Unfortunately first thing that hit me was the smell of vinegar from the eggs. Disappointed to find that the eggs also tasted of vinegar too. and were under cooked. The smashed avacado had been refrigerated and therefore was really cold alongside the vinegar tasting eggs. Beautifully presented by delightful staff. My husband had more luck and really enjoyed his food. Generous portions of egg and salmon and if picky bagel a little under toasted. Great selection of bakery items and food. The atmosphere could be improved enormously by rearranging the layout of seating. The cafe has the feel of a canteen but has so much potential to provide intimate areas. The noise is deafening and off putting. With one coffee, cake and soft drink our bill was £21.00

Have visited this place numerous times, as the garden centre range is wide and varied, and I enjoy browsing the plants. However, the restaurant (in my opinion) lets down an otherwise great afternoon out. Today was the third time in recent months I’ve tried to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Have decided that genuinely I’ll not bother next time and just visit nearby Dobbies (who also have an eaterie).Where to start? Macaroni, always a favourite of mine-lacks flavour, you certainly wouldn’t recognise cheese as a key ingredient. The second time I opted for macaroni (hoping the first time was an “off” day) yet it was again lacking in flavour, as well as comparable portion size. Let’s not forget, you need a small mortgage to eat here- I do expect to get value for what I pay for. I don’t grudge paying premium prices for food, but I do object when the quality/portion size doesn’t reflect what you’ve shelled out for. Today’s visit in eternal optimism, I bodyswerved the macaroni as I didn’t fancy being disappointed yet again so went for the chicken chorizo panini, and hubby opted for the baked potato, and a tin of juice each- just shy of £18.00 if you don’t mind! (Extortion!). Server told me the panini would be served with salad, coleslaw and crisps. Dish came- no crisps. Now, it does sound so menial to then go complain about the lack of a few crisps on a plate, but let’s not forget... I PAID for those crisps. The panini itself was mediocre at best, the baked potato dry (no butter) and skin leathery. The cans, yes, standard tin cans, (not gold plated!) varied from £2.09-£2.49 each. Do not be fooled by the suggestion that this is standard pricing across Inverness- it certainly is nothing of the kind! I can give you plenty other suggestions for places to eat in Inverness that is far superior in taste and value for far less a price ticket. Do yourself a favour, sample the garden centre and giftware, but pass on the restaurant.

I bumped into my daughter in the restaurant when she was lunching with her family, decided to join them briefly so went off to buy a can of coke. to my astonishment I was charged £2.90 my jaw dropped with an astonishing pace, in order to get the large line of folk waiting to pay.the obvious daylight act of robbery with no firearms visual and incredibly flustered I paid up.. and ensured I drank every drop. I was scared to take a glass in case charged for it.. Question how can you even have the brass neck to charge this? Your food is good your portions are not sparse and yes you pay for what you get and always happy to do so as I lunch there often.Other Question-are you going to start charging £5 after a potentially no Deal Brexit if so please pre warn your customers so they can ask for a suitable pay rise to pay extortionately marked up prices for a can of coke! Also bit of advice can you ensure that your sponge cakes are suitability covered after being cut as your staff are too quick to off load the bits at the end that have been cut.. and stale.. bad practice! Yes I do notice so tend not to buy sponge cake any longer..

We had both breakfast and lunch here over our stay in Inverness. Handy to local sights like the battlefield of Culloden and many more it's a quick and easy stop on your way back into the city or when leaving. It might say Garden Center, but it has a little of everything from toy store to grocery and when you come to eat there are almost too many choices to make, thus the two stops. Great pork sausages or awesome meringues, you'll find something to satisfy your hunger.

Went for afternoon tea with my mum for her birthday. Loved the cake and sandwiches display. Everything was fresh and tasty. And for £18 for both of us, well worth the money. The staff was really attentive and helpful too. I would highly recommend and definitely visit again.

Had a spontaneous lunch here on Wednesday went with a friend both of us not Impressed I had Macaroni cheese very floury and lacking in cheese my friend had Haggis olives with some sort of sauce it was cold and didn't taste of much really. We both thought it was expensive for what we had. Unlikely to recommend.

What a shame!! Obviously good quality ingredients were used but so cold ( despite being under lights) barely edible. Visited the restaurant just after 10 o’clock but clearly the food had been cooked before 9 o’clock and left sitting there. The eggs you could hardly cut because of the skin on them and the only reason we didn’t go back and complain was the charming young man who served us!! He was probably the only one in the restaurant not scowling!!!Very sad as their bakery is lovely so a lesson learned.

Had Sunday lunch recently. Self service, plenty choice. Large space with plenty tables. Tap water available to help yourself to. Enjoyed the macaroni, very reasonable price. Good choice of home bakes. Something for everyone. Garden centre gift and food area well set out.

Attended to take grandchild to visit Santa and have a snack afterwards, lucky I had the sense to take a carer or my grandchild would have missed out on the experience, which is costly at best.I walk using a frame, really disabled,i paid to visit but had to sit at a table out with the attraction, our assigned elf was rubbish, other elves were more helpful,u could never have climbed through, bent down through this attraction,Santa was okay and charging for photos was extreme.

Their Winter Wonderland experience is just fantastic, very entertaining particularly if you are a four year old girl - ( she loved Santa) Simpsons must have spent a LOT of money to create the animations and atomitations.

A large well stocked garden centre. We visited on a Thursday lunch time, the garden centre was very busy and the restaurant was packed. They have an excellent Christmas display for kids, they really have made an effort, with very friendly and helpful Elves. The food in the restaurant was excellent, with really good portions. Santas Reindeer are based there till Christmas Eve, another great attraction for kids.

Cannot fault the winter wonderland it was fab but the santa presents were very cheap and a disappointment to both kids for the price you pay a small soft toy would of been better. The ginger and turnip soup was lovely and staff was really friedly.

What an absolute joke! Expected the winter wonderland to be far better than it was! They hype it up to be a “must see” thing! Complete let down! We went for food afterwards at the van beside the reindeer. The order came out wrong then she came out 5 minutes later to ask “what was it you ordered again?” When we told her she said that’s what they took out (it wasn’t). We then asked for a refund and she pretty much said no the food is on its way. In total we waited 20 minutes for a burger and waffles.

I’ve never seen queues like it however once I got to the front and ordered my meal I understood why; individually prepared gourmet style salads that were utterly delicious. A large selection of delicious looking cakes on offer too. Very friendly staff. A canteen set up but clean and well maintained. Would highly recommend a visit.

My cousin’s that live in Scotland suggested we meet here for lunch as it is a favourite pit stop of their’s. There is a very large restaurant at this garden centre and to say it was busy is an understatement however the wait was worth it. Sandwiches and cakes were really fresh and a large selection was available. Cooked meals were also available. Would certainly return if we are in the area again.

I went to simpsons with a friend and whilst I appreciate it was an extremely busy lunch time it does not mean that the soup should be Luke warm and average at best. Add this to a sad face on the till who couldn't muster a smile it was most dissapointing.Half a bowl of soup (lentil and ham hock) for 4.25 and not even a small piece of bread to go with it can only be described as poor value . We both were dissapointed not it's usual standard.Certainly wouldn't rush back.

Ordered soup and got a small bowl, only half full for £4.25. It wasn’t great soup either, quite thin and over salty.Cheese scones weren’t very cheesy.Charged me £2.09 for a can of diet Irn Bru which seems excessive considering I had to pour it myself into a child’s plastic beaker. Not impressed. Coffees were rather nice though but shortbread had gone soft.

Simpsons is so much more than a garden centre. There is a wide variety of shopping available from foodstuffs and gifts to homewares...even a room filled with tropical fish for sale in addition to the garden products. The shopping area aisles are wide and uncluttered and the entire building is wheelchair accessible. The restaurant is large and well laid out with the most amazing views over the town and the hills beyond. The food is made fresh and there is a very wide selection...from snacks to larger meals.. I was very happy to see that they cater for food allergies and there was a dairy/gluten free home made cake which was delicious. The staff are always friendly and efficient and despite the size of the restaurant area you never feel as if you are crammed in beside the neighbouring tables. There is lots of parking around the building and several disabled parking bays beside front door of building. I highly recommend Simpsons.

Ideal place to stop and have a meal. You can choose from hot or cold dishes, children can take advantage of a cold meal on a seed tray with a packed of seeds to take home with them. Lovely surroundings always busy when we go. Haven't had a bad meal yet. Benefit is that you can walk off your meal by checking out the nursery, aquarium and ample shopping choices. Almost a day out in itself!

We arrived between breakfast and lunch, which a young chap explained to us, so we had a browse before ordering lunch. The same young chap prepared an excellent salad, taking real care with it. I’d ordered a club sandwich and others had various wraps and paninis. These took some time to arrive (clearly freshly made) but mine wasn’t among them. It was the same young chap (we should have asked his name!) who apologised and went in search. About 10 minutes later he noticed that I was still waiting. It seemed that the order had been lost, for which he apologised again (not his fault, he didn’t take the order) and offered me a complimentary drink. Excellent customer service! When my club sandwich arrived it was delicious, the best sandwich I’d had during our 10 day trip!I hope that maybe this young chap can be identified and given appropriate appreciation from Simpson’s management. We will definitely return when we are in the area. The garden centre/ shop is also well worth a visit on its own.

At garden centre with elderly relatives. The cakes looked lovely and I would have cake and coffee if I Was there again.I had the macaroni cheese. It was awful. I did plough on though but the sauce had pretty much plot and was gritty. I wasn’t impressed.Caters for gluten free - good. Maybe the pasta was gluten free but it was awful?Had that been all we had I would have rated lower but guests had the soup which was fine and the toasties looked like the best choice.Maybe I was unlucky so I would try it again as the cakes looked great and the other reviews are generally good. The garden centre was worth a visit as was pretty good

Coffee shop... never disappointed. However, thr queues are always long... not enough people on the teas and coffees.... I was there the other day and asked for a latte with the breakfasts... the woman didn't look too pleased at my request... you know it's extra ..... yes.

We visited this place on Sunday at 11.45 and decided to have a quick lunch. We are local to the area and have been to the restaurant many times in the past. The queueing system has always been a bit odd but we queued at the right serving area for two soups. We were largely ignored by around three members of staff for about five minutes and when I asked if someone would take my order for two soups, I was told they would serve us when they were ready...I nearly left then but we decided to stay, paid for our lunch and found a table for two. The table had been cleared but was filthy and hadn’t been wiped. Our food was of the usual high standard and as we got up to go a staff member came to clear our table. We spoke to her and helped her to load the trays with our dishes. She didn’t meet our eyes, didn’t smile and barely responded.Oh dear Simpsons, you need to do some serious staff training around basic, polite customer service.

Been so many times to Simpson’s garden centre restaurant as a family we go quite often for lunch . It’s always busy but the food is very good we always have the soup & sandwiches choices we have never had the hot food choices . The food is great the choice of baking is fantastic but cakes are expensive especially if a family of 4 all have a cake witch are priced at around £2 at least a cake . My favourite sandwich filling is coronation chicken .

A lovely little pizza place serving thin crusted pizzas. It's mainly takeaway, but there are a few seats outside the back of the restaurant (facing the parking). Although the official timing is till 7:30 pm, the last order is at 7 pm - so make sure to come earlier. Had the Deamhan (Demon) pizza and the Vegeterian. Both were absolutely amazing. A definite place to eat while in Portree
