Possibly the best Indian dining restaurant in a 15 mile radius prices really fair. Loads of food and the biggest onion bahjees I have ever seen plus bring your own booze. Saves on the bill. Staff are great. The old fella can be slightly abrupt but that’s his manner he means well. Parking behind for over 80 cars

I have just started going to Simla since our old favourite has gone downhill. There were 4 of us and we all ordered different dishes. We all found the food to be exceptional and beautifully spiced. So why the average score. I find myself in total agreement with other comments regarding the sour faced miserable staff. Front of house is equally important as the kitchen. Whoever the owner is needs to take a long hard look at the way the staff interact, or rather don’t interact with the customers. Just be pleasant, smile once in a while! A simple Hello and welcome goes a long way.

Amazing food excellent value for money!! Brother going back to Australia after being here 5 weeks. All the family together, an amazing meal. The down side the staff were super miserable, left a nice tip as the food was so lovely. No one spoke at all, we left the tip and said goodnight and thank you still no reply, absolutely terrible. Such a shame as the chef was a fantastic cook. Even my granddaughters commented how rude they were. We would go back as the food is not to be missed.

We visited to celebrate a family birthday on the strength of a previous visit some years ago. Have to say that we weren't disappointed. We received a lovely welcome when we arrived, and the service was excellent. The food was the standard fair for an Indian restaurant, but it was still excellent. Our 13 year old especially enjoyed the Tandoori Mixed Grill.

Weve frequented quite a few indian restaurants over the years, but Simla in Aberkenfig is by far the worst weve ever been to. When trying a new Indian, we normally go for a classic dish like a Madras, its a good indicator to see if a restaurant has their basics together. The Madras that was served to us was the blandest we have ever tasted. Spice was next to none and the Chicken was very overcooked and tough. The waiter came across to clear our table when we finished with a cloth and although accidently, swepped all the loose rice and poppodums into my lap without apology. To top it all off, when we recieved the bill we were handed two after eight mints. We took a bite and instantly noticed something was off. While gagging it come to our attention that the taste was something very similar to what can only be described as fly spray. Safe to say, we wont be going back.

An amazing night with great quality tasting food. Me and my partner have been visiting this restaurant for many years and I can say that it never disappoints. The service from the young chap was absolutely faultless and made us feel at home and welcomed us with open arms. However there is one issue that lets this place down. The stone cold faced elderly gentleman. Not only is he blunt, rude and ignorant, he seemed as if he didn’t want to be there and made us feel pressured and rushed asking several times if we finished our meal making us rush and uncomfortable. The only thing to let the business down and bring such a reputable name down with it with such a negative staff member. Personal opinion of the elderly gent is to simply not work there and if he doesn’t enjoy it then he is in the wrong profession! Disregarding the one negative side of this, the other members of staff and service cannot be faulted and the food is just to die for. Food is cooked with perfection and the chicken and the lamb just crumbles in your mouth. My favourite dish which I highly recommend is the chicken and mushroom balti (medium hot) and they always cook it to the right strength of heat. We will be back to continue having our delicious weekly Indian takeaway and have the odd sit down meals and I hope that the elderly waiter reads this and soon understands the proper way of providing proper customer service.

I got recommended this place by a close friend. He told me to order the Simla Special Biryani as that was his favourite. I ordered it and was told 10-15 mins. I got there, I paid for it and my food was already waiting for me to take. Quick service might I add. Anyway, I got home, I tried it and my mouth was watering. This was the best biryani I have ever eaten. The sauce that came with it was outstanding! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!!

New Years Eve and myself, family and so on thought we would get a takeaway (as do many on this night) ordering it at 7PM to collect at 8:20PM I thought it would be enough time. I turned up to find endless people waiting for food and to be sat to have food, staff were extremely busy (so I was more than willing to wait for a bit as I could see there was a lot of pressure) however waiting another 1 and half hours started to test me. Seeing many people getting food before me and people being sat down, they were clearly unable to meet the demand they had this evening and it costs a lot of people hours of time with them forgetting food. I also got home to find items missing but I was so done with the whole thing I just didn't bother. My advice to the owners is manage yourselves a little better and maybe close the sit down part during this night as takeaways were clearly more demanding.

Absolutely livid. Bought curry from Simla Indian Aberkenfig. Didn’t eat all of it as had to wait an hour and 45mins after ringing order through for it to be ready for collection, so thought I’d tuck in to some more of it today. Here I am tucking into a portion of it, to think what kind of food is this??? Oh yeah, a plastic wrapper. And then when I ring them to complain, they say ‘we’re closed now’ several times and then hang up the phone. Absolutely disgusting!!!

Came here on a Saturday night with another couple instead of having a take away. The food at the restaurant is really good and we always order to take away so we thought we would try out this restaurant. I had heard prior to coming here that because they do not have an alcohol license that you were able to take your own alcohol, I called to confirm this and they said yes. We ordered poppadoms and then our main meals. The poppadoms came out with a few dips which we thought was a nice touch, however when the final bill came we were charged £3.50 for the dips and £1 per person for brining in your own alcohol. I wouldn’t have been bothered paying for these charges if we were told before hand, just a bit of a shock when the bill comes out with near enough an extra £10 on top. When approached they said didnt really give us an answer and just said we are required to pay the bill..... The main meal was delightful however and couldn’t fault the main dish. Wouldn’t sit and dine again, only take away.

My girlfriend and I tried this place pretty last minute and I am SO happy we did. The service was excellent and we were really made to feel at home as if the staff really appreciated us being there. We both had onion bhajis to start and you certainly get your money's worth as they were quite filling on their own. Really crispy though, just the way they should be. For mains my girlfriend had chicken biriyani and I went for the chicken shashlik, both were some of the best we've had. We had both missed lunch so were starving so added a Bombay aloo and a keema naan and I can honestly say they were awesome. Our eyes were a bit too big for our bellies though so we ended up packing most of it up with us to take home, something that wasn't a problem at all. I'm cross with myself for not trying this place sooner but rest assured we will be back many times in the future. Awesome meal, thanks for having us.

I am always a regular customer of Simla and I have to say the food never fails to disappoint. NYE to say the least was a very busy day for Simla but watching closely the main man himself had controlled everything in a professional manner where everything ran smoothly. I have to mention him. Top lad by the name of Arif, who everyone seems to know is the hardest working guy I’ve ever seen! Without the attendance of him at the restaurant delegating and monitoring everything. It would have fallen into pieces. So everyone should be very grateful that they have an employee who works so hard to please his customers! Food and service of course was absolutely fabulous and by having a smooth service we were very pleased to see the young man working hard from the moment he walked in! and the most important thing, you will always see him smiling all the time, which makes you feel cheery and in good spirits! Keep it up and best of luck with uni when you’re back up mate!

Attended the venue for a Sunday lunchtime buffet with family who had been on previous occasions. The restaurant opens at 12.00 but the help yourself buffet food was not put in place until approx 12.20. The decor was slightly dated but to a reasonable level whilst the plates, cutlery etc, were very clean. The staff were very friendly & helpful. There were 2/3 starters with salad along with 6/7 main dishes. We were told that they put the same dishes out each weekend which is a shame because the restaurant would probably benefit from rotating the dishes. The food was very nice although wth the choice of dishes it would be beneficial to have one hotter dish, e.g. Madras. Chicken, lamb and prawn dishes were available & the meats were very lean and tender. One big plus is you are able to take your own alcohol into the premises although you can purchase soft drinks if you so wish. Water is also provided. Wheelchair users can access the property via a rear door. There was only one desert available that being ice cream, that being said there was ample starters/ main courses without the need of a desert. Overall it was a pleasant experience and worth the visit. We would visit the restaurant again. There were approximately a dozen people present when the restaurant opened but more came in as time went on.

I really enjoyed dinner at this restaurant. I ordered a wide range of starters, including excellent prawns, some superb Paneer, and tandoori meats. Main courses included more tandoori meats and Chicken Makhani, with Sag Paneer. All the dishes were excellently prepared with fresh ingredients, the chicken was soft and succulent and the rich sauces complimented the ingredients. I was impressed by the use of spices and fresh cream among others. The chef here is a Mr Abdul Quddus who is clearly a first rate chef. This restaurant has always been the best but the service has majorly improved. Food quality is amazing. They cater to your needs and the presentation is always on point. I normally go for a sit-down meal every other week and a takeaway every friday if im not having a meal inside. The waiters are lovely and pleasant, but Arif who attends university is so passionate towards the job and is always making conversation whether its busy or not and that is what I thoroughly enjoy is having the company of having a nice chat. Everyone seems to know who he is and what he does, so i wish him all the best in Uni!! This is what every Indian restaurant needs is someone who is committed to working hard whilst providing the best service anyone could ever ask for. Over the years the restaurant service has improved, the quality of the food has always been consistent and is to die for. It saddens me to leave this review but there are things that need to be said.Visited on a whim on a busy Saturday night. When I say busy, I mean having-to-fight-your-way-through-the-takeaway-area busy, the restaurant itself was quiet so no problem getting a table. Ordered soft drinks - no tonic water available despite it being on the drinks menu. These came quickly but that was as good as it got.Someone eventually came to take our food order. OH ordered a salmon starter, I didn't want a starter to requested a fish main course. At this point the waiter spun around and disappeared to the kitchen, then returned to say no fish. Ok, so I'll have tandoori king prawns... no, no fish at all. Not good for me as I don't eat meat! He then also cancelled the salmon starter and told my OH to order something else. At this point we should have walked, but we were so hungry we ordered alternatives and waited.... and waited..... and waited.... for an hour for anything to arrive. Which didn't impress the table next to us as they'd ordered before we'd arrived and were still waiting for theirs! The food itself was passable, though anything would have been by this point as we were so hungry. It certainly wasn't worth the long, long wait. The reason for the problem was obvious as we had plenty of time to observe while waiting - the restaurant was clearly going for the world record of how many takeaways it could get out the door in one night, at the expense of its restaurant customers. Completely unacceptable!! The final nail in the coffin was the bill. The food and drink was massively overpriced for what we received. We've had cheaper Indian meals in the centre of London! We quickly paid and left, unlikely to return. My advise to the Simla - decide if you want to be a restaurant or just a takeaway. If the former, tell your takeaway customers that there will be a delay on their orders, and make sure your sit in customers are your priority. We've visited the Simla so many times, and had so many good experiences and great food, it's sad to see it reduced to this. The reason for delay in writing this review? Last night we fancied an Indian meal, and because of our last experience at Simla we headed in the opposite direction to the Cinnamon Kitchen in Aberafan, where we had a fantastic meal and experienced the kind of service we used to get at Simla when it first opened. Second piece of advice to the Simla - go have a meal at the Cinnamon Kitchen for a reminder of how it should be done!

First the good...My wife's shashlik chicken was plentyful and tasty. The naan bread was tasty. My chicken delight was tasty although extremely hot, and this wasn't indicated on the menu. It was bordering vindaloo heat which is not normal for a chicken delight. The bad...The price. It came to £42 for the two of us. Bear in mind that the restaurant is unlicensed and so there was no alcohol. We also didn't have a starter or dessert. It was just a main meal, naan and poppadoms. I wouldn't expect that price in London. We also questioned the price of the drinks which was an extortionate £13.60 for 3 Soda waters and a non-alcoholic beer - we were told that it was £3.50 for the soda water! £3.50!! I think the most I've ever paid for a soda water is £1, sometimes it's free!So despite the food being reasonable (several better places around the area I feel), we felt royally ripped off with the bill and will not be returning when there are cheaper and nicer alternatives around.

Recently visited the Simla. Safe to say I thoroughly enjoyed myself as did my wife. The food was absolutely spot on and so was the service. We have tried several Indians around the local area but since trying this for the first time I can say that it does beat any other restaurant. We ordered the chicken shashlik and chicken tikka madras and no word of a lie it was absolutely amazing. We definitely recommend this place to our friends and family and to those who want to try this place out. The lighting, the atmosphere and the quality service is what made our night and we thoroughly enjoyed the company given to us by the young waiter who was very pleasant and was determined and alert at all times. A lovely chat with him about what he does and how his Univerisity is going and I hope it goes all well for him. We also had a brief chat with the owner Mr Miah who was quite the gentleman himself. He made sure we was satisfied with the food and made sure that everything was going well. What I also like about this place is that they don't rush you at all and they just leave you to enjoy the food which other Indian restaurant around the area don't do. I love it!! We definitely will be returning soon and could possibly be on a regular basis. Thank you too the owner and his son for making mine and my wife's night a pleasant one. We hope that anyone who wants to try this restaurant speaks to them as they will keep you entertained and show you their commitment. Definitely a 5*!!!

I visited yesterday with a friend, for the Sunday Buffet Lunch, around 1.40.There were around ten others in the restaurant at that time and we were quickly shown to a table. On our initial visit to the buffet some of the dishes were low or missing, so we took a selection of what was available and went back to our table to enjoy it.The other guests started leaving and the buffet was replenished as we went back for more, and after three visits, or was it four, to the buffet we were beaten!During this time no other guests arrived and, what we took to be, the owner's family came to eat from the buffet too. Some time after we had stopped eating one of the waiters asked if we had finished with the buffet and, when we said that we had, started to clear it away.We had been under the impression that they were open from lunchtime straight through to the evening but this was not the case. However, at no time were we made to feel rushed and fresh dishes were always available. The food was great and the service was excellent. others have commented on the lack of banter or atmosphere and if that's what you're looking for then try the comedy club.I can't fault them at all.

Love going there for the Sunday Buffet. Nice choice of meals, Food is always nice. Good value for money. If you do want to have an alcoholic drink with your meal you have to take your own. The restaurant will supply you with glasses.

Popped in this evening for a takeaway. Didn't ring the order through but still only had a wait of around 10 minutes. The food was delicious and the portions are generous. It was still hot when we got it home to Ogmore Vale. I love this restaurant. The food is lovely and the staff are friendly and happy.

I visited this restaurant after reading the excellent reviews and I am from the midlands and I happened to be in South Wales so I decided to pop in. Firstly it is difficult to impress somebody who's staple diet is a curry! The food was amazing, the preparation and ingredients within the curries were perfect for my taste buds. The atmosphere was very authentic with a modern setting. The chicken tikka was fresh and soft not the reheated ones you get at other restaurants. It's definitely a cosy place to enjoy a nice meal in the valleys of South Wales. I have been to many in the Swansea and Cardiff area but hands down the food and atmosphere in the place we the best experience I have had. It's worth checking this place out especially if you're after a nice couples meal or family meals. I spoke with the owners of this restaurant to understand their background in Indian culinary cuisine and I learnt that they have been in the industry for almost 30 years so rest assured they have built a sound reputation of the years and it's not one of your pop up style of restaurant with food that is inconsistent. I will definitely be going back there when I am in South Wales and it's easy access to just off the M4 junc 36 exit so I look forward to another day out in the shopping outlet and a curry.

My biggest complaint is the fact they don't deliver for some reason, but when you get the food it's great fair play, the Chicken tikka Shamoli is one of my favourite foods and the Sunday buffet is well worth the tenner

My family dined here last Friday. It was on the basis of my recommendation, having been there before. The service was very slow on this occasion (they had a big party in) but the food was excellent. Also, they do not currently have a licence to serve alcohol. However, they were happy for us to bring our own and did not charge any corkage. The decor is a bit dated and for some reason the tables are quite small. However, the food is definitely above average.

Have visited previously and enjoyed, but this time we were underwhelmed. Everything seemed rushed and the quality of the food was not good. The starters were distinctly dry and the main courses which were described on the menu as hot with green chillies were very mild.It took an age for our bill to arrive and when it did we were shocked to see a £4.50 service charge added. We enquired about this with the older waiter, who did not seem to understand. All in all we felt quite let down with the whole experience.

We had a take away from here a few weeks ago. We recently moved near Aberkenfig from Brackla and the food here is a big step up from the indians in town. Best in Bridgend by far. Each dish was flavoursome and cooked to perfection.

I used to visit so often when I lived closer that the staff recognised me if we passed in the street.I'm a lover of spicey foods, and ever since going to Simla, I never go anywhere else. The food is always perfect, whether eating out or in. It can get busy at the weekends (owing to its local popularity) but if you choose to eat in,the staff are always attentive and pleasant. The portion sizes are always more than I can eat (quality and quantity!) so I would usually order one meal to share with my wife if we were having take out.Simla is my most highly recommended Indian in Bridgend.

We arrived at 7:30, table booked, and were able to sit down straight away. Waited 10mins to order drinks, not too bad, then waited another 20mins for the drinks. We ordered popadoms and chutneys, they came about 15mins after, during eating these we asked for extra onions and an extra drink, they never arrived. After finishing the popadoms minus the onions, we then ordered the drink again. 40mins later the drink arrived. We then ordered our mains, which took over an hour to get to the table! The food wasnt that great for the amount of time we waited. We even had to wait half hour to pay the bill.

Went there recently with some friends and thought that the food was excellent. Their speciality dishes were excellent and the one that I had with orange in it was one of the best curries that I have ever had. Good atmosphere and reasonably priced.

First time me and the Mrs went down the Simla for a sit down meal. We was recommended by a friend and I browsed around the reviews on here to see what it was like. Saturday 12th Sept we went down and the place was absolutely packed, which is always a good sign. We were asked to take a seat and the young gentleman took our drinks order and had a lovely chat with us about how our day was etc, within minutes of waiting he got us a table and we were seated. We were given time to browse around the menu as there is a huge selection of food to choose from, I couldn't decide!! So we asked the waiter too recommend something with a little kick and taste to it, he said try the Nehari and chicken methali with 2 rices and a naan between me and the Mrs. The food was absolutely flawless, probably the best I have ever tasted, my meal the Nehari was a bit to spicy, however when the young waiter was coming around to ask how our food was I did tell him that it was a little too spicy, immediately he says 'let me take that back to the kitchen so they can tone down the spice for you' so I had to wait literally 2-3 minutes before it came back out and I was expecting half of my curry as I ate the other half, but when the food came back my pot of curry was full again, which I was not expecting, so I started to dig in and I thoroughly enjoyed it, we didn't bother with deserts and the mains was a fair portion, it's safe to say our eyes are bigger than our bellies, we put the rest in a doggie bag and our waiter wasn't there for service and along came the downside to the restaurant, 'the elderly guy' best way to describe him, plain blunt waiter who seems to lack absolutely everything in customer service, the place was still heaving and he was constantly hoovering around us and asking us if we wanted the bill, finally our waiter came back and was very apologetic for the inappropriate behaviour from the elderly waiter. The elderly guy needs to go from the place as he is outweighs the quality of the food and service from all the other staff! Some reviews are pretty much all on about his abrupt services, but with the other waiters you are given the 5* service with a smile and not felt rushed. We enjoyed our night and will be returning very soon! Well done Simla

We went Simla restaurant after listening a lot about it. But it's a disappointment. Food was average in taste. Bit expensive. Robotic customer service. Decor is very outdated & busy. Repeatedly asked for the orders by the waiters. Which means they don't have understanding between them. But after serving no one bothered to ask anything.

T.he Verdict: Word of mouth said it's one of the best around. Never visited on a normal menu night though. Only dined on a Sunday when it was a buffet for £10.00 pp.Heard the normal menu is very pricey but completely different from the buffet. We took the lil man with us and was super shocked when they said they haven't got any high chairs. As he was under 2 at the time, he couldn't sit on an adult chair. So I had to drive home (6 miles) to get our own high chair. This review is based on my visit and not what I've heard from friends.FOOD:Not bad taste, nothing special though. Not a lot of choice at all. Maybe 2 or 3 curries out. Chicken korma and masala, lamb curry. Pilau rice, chips, Naan bread and sauces. The food wasn't replenished quick enough so customers were waiting ages. Also the food kind of tasted as if it had been sitting there a while. The day after the buffet, all 5 of us that dined had upset stomachs. We were all very ill for the next few days and had to take time off work. We assumed it was the lamb curry as I had the least sickness out of everyone. This was because I only tasted one piece as everyone else had a lot of it. We called the restaurant to explain and they just apologised without any other offering or sympathy etc.SERVICE:The staff were very friendly, talking with the lil man and attentive with drinks etc.Just very slow and not paying any attention to replenishing the buffet.R.ecommendations: Just dine on the normal menu. You get what you pay for really.I.mprovement:The buffet! It needs a lot more dishes and needs to be replenished quicker and kept on top of. Need to take a leaf from 'New Garden' across the road... they have a Sunday buffet also for £10.00 each, but they have around 30 dishes and are on top of their game.P.rice:Heard the normal menu is very expensive, but the Sunday buffet is £10.00 pp.

Visited the Simla after a friend recommended , food was excellent, service was exceptional, first time visit and I was very impressed, never seen a restaurant so clean and kept to high standards, I found out that this restaurant has been open for 20 years now WOW! That is incredible most restaurants and cafes don't stay around that long but they have maintained this to the highest standards possible. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and family. I will definitely be returning soon!

Have been a customer of this restaurant for over 15 yrs and have never been disappointed whether the meal has been sit down or takeaway. The food is quality and tastes fresh every time. Ive tried every Indian in the area and this is definitely the best. I have yet to taste a better Indian meal than whats served here. The cost is slightly more than some of the poor imitators in the local area, the old adage applies you get what you pay for.....

Mentioned in my earlier review of the takeaway, that would update after a sit down meal at the Simla.Very pleased to announce, that had now been done and the restaurant didn't disappoint! The food, just as the takeaway, was excellent. If by poor service, people mean they leave you alone to enjoy your meal and not rush the next course after your last mouthful, or rush you out of the door once the meal is finished, then give me more of that "poor" service at other restaurants!!!!!To recap, food excellent, service excellent, cleanliness excellent, value for money excellent! If you enjoy Indian food, give the Simla a go.

You pay a little more than usual at this restaurant but the old adage 'you get what you pay for' certainly rings true in this case. The menu offers more variety than the run of the mill Indian restaurants and there's still a number of regional dishes which we have yet to try.Definitely worth a visit but make sure you book as they only have a small seating area.

We visited with friends and were shown to a table that was far too small for 4 people , waiter just grunted , not customer friendly, staff dont know how to smile , extremely unhappy staff who dont want to be there, and the owner is even worse, hes rude, has no manners , and so miserable .We had our food, that definitely wasnt served with a smile, and the food was adequate .But if the atmosphere created by the staff is miserable , u dont want to spend time there !!!!!! Dont go there if u want to feel like a paying customer cause it wont happen.

The free poppadom offer is a con - added extra to our order to bring the price over ths £28 limit but no poppadoms! Ordered paneer masala and veg makhani but it was just makhani sauce for both with different things in it. Sickly sweet and grim.
