Silloth Cafe Fish and Chips in Allerdale

The food was lovely but there was no table service but it was still alright to sit down at a clean table and tidy and it was very reasonable prices for what you get ..and I'll be going back now. I know where it is

Been in twice in a couple of days fish and chips were fine. Came in a third time on a Wednesday and they were diabolical. Batter was inedible chips were over done. It appears there was a different person cooking each time. Perhaps a bit of continuity might help. Mixed feelings now as to whether we will come in again

My go to chippy in Silloth. It's lovely!

Went to my favourite chip shop today , had my best friend with me Betty my beautiful old English mastiff, soon as I stepped in the doorway, a person behind the counter, said to me get that dog out it's not allowed in a firm tone , I said to him last time I was in the staff said it was ok , they absolutely loved Betty my dog , so I went outside to tie Betty up , returned back in the shop the same person was just staring at me giving me the evils, wow I thought great customer service wow , tbh I felt a bit uncomfortable what no customer should feel , I asked the person what's your problem with staring at me, he replied look in the mirror, how rude was this pathetic guy , even the person behind me said to me what's that's guys problem working behind the counter, I said you tell me ? Lol, the person working behind the counter wasn't English, this attitude needs serious attention, definitely not a dog lover , I actually thought this place was dog friendly, obviously not, all I ask respect your customers speak nice , this is far from what I got today , but tbh all the other staff we're great, if this disgrace of a man is ever in again ,me and Betty my dog won't be , please get some no dogs allowed sign's, that will sort everything out , Like I said before I actually thought it was dog friendly as myself and Betty have both been in before, such a shame one bad egg can spoil everything, I'm getting the feeling,,,,,,, New owners maybe ?????, if so bring the old ones back 👍 or get rid of that bad egg, amen🙏✊

Visited for the second time, first time last year at New Year. My children have gone on nonstop about it since haha. We came today and honestly it was even better than we remembered. Food really fresh! We travelled back to our caravan with it, a good 10/15 minute walk and it was still warm when we got back! Says it all. The fish is absolutely brilliant. Would fully recommend. Price wise as well cannot complain what so ever!! Today we got 3 kid meals, fish super, single battered sausage, sausage supper and chips for £30! Our local chippy in Scotland charges £35+ for the exact same thing and at a much lower quality too!! Staff on both occasions we've been have been friendly and happy to answer allergin questions.

Was fairly quiet. But it was the best chippy chips I've tasted for a very long time. All on the ground floor. It would be tricky for a wheel chair user to enter though. And I didn't see a disabled toilet.

All I can say is the chips are genuinely 10/10 chippy chips. Really good, a proper chippy.

We were told their kebabs beat how royas used to be before they went seriously down hill, honestly the corner cafe kebabs are out of this world I was told by a local lad who happened to be a friend of the cafe so I was sceptical but oh no absolutely out of this world! Highly recommend...

Everytime I'm in siloth I pop in for fish an chips, not too sure but I think the people this time are new. Anyway, the fish and chips where spot on. Would recommend

Unfortunately the sit in cafe was closed but they let us sit in as the weather wasn't great.

It's difficult to find a good fish & chip shop & the search continues.

Absolutely delicious fish and chips. Freshly done battered cod, decent portion of food and friendly service. When here a few years ago on a rainy January Monday it was a proper sit in place with waitress service and plates and cutlery etc. Today the dining area was open but you had to get your meal from the takeaway counter and could just go and sit with your polystyrene box and plastic fork. Not a problem but just hope they've not totally stopped the waitress service.

Beautiful place and the chips are genuinely the best chips I've ever had in my life, perfectly golden with no brown spots, crunchy on outside and juicy on inside, good amount of salt and vinegar. Unreal

It's OK I wasn't keen on the fish the batter was to thick and to hard the chips were ok .

Called in in Friday lunch, and they opened up the dining room for us as it was raining, and we were soaking wet as out on the pushbikes. Great service, value, and food. Highly recommended 👍

Awful. Do not enter the premises if you are Coeliac. The new owners ( or staff) do not care- sad, as the old owners were amazing for gluten free. The staff attitude stinks. We have three coeliacs in our family and we’re looking forward to our end of summer treat. Go anywhere else. 🥲

Definitely change a lot in the past few years. Really nice chips and free delivery is always a big bonus.

Went in didn’t say hello, practically rushing us out of the door. Couldn’t dine in when it says dine in option, need to learn manners.

We had some great fish and chips here. Cooked well and tasted fresh with good-sized portions. The fish is skinless which is a big plus for me and my kids. Prices are also very reasonable at £9 for fish and chips (Aug 23) especially being the only place in this area.

Went in just before closing time, lads behind counter very helpful and pleasant and gave me what I asked for despite being about to close. Scampi and chips and chicken nuggets and chips, all freshly cooked and very tasty.

Fabulous fish and chips freshly cooked to order. Batter was perfectly cooked, fish white and chunky and the chips crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, all tasting great. The place is old school and nipping clean. Deffo worth a visit if you are in Silloth. Highly Recommended.👍👍

Great food and friendly staff, only a short walk from the fronts. We caught them just as they were closing and they still looked after us even though they were trying to get cleaned up. Short walk from silloth fronts so perfect location aswell!!

Had the mixed special kebab. Don't be put off the price. Was presented beautifully, Massive portion of chicken shish lamb, donner, chips, salad (including pickled red cabbage and coleslaw), rice and garlic sauce. Could have easily shared between too salad was fresh and complemented meat well. Would say the Donner meat wasn't the most premium but it didn't matter as it all went together so well. Partner had fish and chips they were good too. Will call again next time we're in town.

My girlfriend went into the chippy for 2 potions of chips and a couple of drinks trying to use a £50 note the lady took the order and then The other lady said something to the one on the till. Then proceeded to take orders behind my girlfriend just leaving her there standing just ignoring her. Didn't tell her she couldn't use the £50 just ignored. Disgusting to think about of manners is all it takes and the employees here don't seem to have that. Ps one of the workers not using gloves while handling all the food 👎

Used to live local many years ago and use the takeaway chippy a lot as was always nice, thesedays if over in silloth I've tried a few times and reccomended to friends going but all found its either really lovely, or lack of care through rushing due to queues and possibly not enough staff or organisation has lead to things being overdone. So hit and miss really.

Fantastic gluten-free fish and chips All the chips are gluten free, the fish is done fresh in a separate fryer. There is also a gluten-free smokey sausage available. Even down to the vinegar which is safe. As someone with coeliacs I highly recommend a visit 😋

I had gluten free fish and chip and they where perfect,they use a separate fryer so no cross contamination 👍

Lovely fish and chips, unfortunately that isn't what we wanted! We looked at the menu board and decided what we wanted, waited in a queue for quite a while, got to the front and asked what pies they had and was told they no longer do pies - at least cross it out on the board! Ended up with fish and chips (and a dirty look from the guy frying the fish as we hadn't pre-ordered one!) No complaints about the food, just a shame about them not removing items they no longer do from the menu, otherwise it would be 5 stars.

Visited on my way home from work as a treat. I was asked if I wanted fish while stood in the que and when I got the the front the fish was waiting for me. Fish, chip, curry sauce. The fish was a bit on the small side, the chips were plenty full. All very good though. I'll be back at some point. Thanks.

Came here as another fish and chip shop had a horrendous wait time and I'm glad they did as Silloth fish and chips are the best me and my family had. All cooked fresh to order and the staff were very good

Great takeaway 1st class food and excellent service

Really bad. I’m from the coast and this place is a disgrace fish was just out the frier and it was as dry as the chips apart from the grease from the batter. Sorry folks you really need to do better.

Decent Fish and Chip shop. Popular so gets quite busy and expect to wait as its cooked to order almost. Fish was nice but not as thick as I'd like. Nice Chips, and deep fried black pudding? Don't sound good but it really works. Good prices too, £16 for 2 of us, Fish and chips and ketchup.

The fish was very nice and cooked to order but the chips were terrible, believe they had been reheated, they were so crispy you couldn't put your fork in them. Very disappointed

Shame there is no pensioners options but hey ho also one fish was straight out of the fryer and greasy could of done with dripping for a while in the got cabinet but would still go back, no bones in the fish which we liked and the corned beef patties was very tasty

We've come on holiday in Siloth and we fancied a chippy. We chose correctly. Excellent food with a delicious curry sauce that complimented my chips. Choice of drinks was great. Portion sizes are great. And price makes sense. Just 1 issue which I spotted was the Owner has been accusing people of leaving fake reviews. No such thing as a fake review. They're all legit. It's opinions. Take the feedback on board if it's useful, if not, ignore it.

Great place to pick up fish and chips

BEST FISH AND CHIPS IN TOWN, this establishment used to be good, now its EXCELLENT. The quality of the food is great, the prices are fantastic and the staff are friendly! There are some rather negative reviews on here, regarding poorly cooked food??? Absolute nonsense the food is fresh and pretty much cooked to order, perfectly I might add! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL, YOU'LL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Chips were dry, hard corners and peas had far too much pepper in them. The full meals went straight in the bin, a complete waste of money. Will not go again!

Food looks good. Unfortunately fish batter was just under cooked. Chips only warm. At £20 for fish and chips 1 pea a 2 bottles of coke. Not good value.

Yet again my chip shop friends! I try to be loyal to you as im down here at my caravan but unfortunately yet again on Sunday I got fish and chips and it was absolutely disgusting! Chips were the worst I've ever seen and tasted! Fish was tangy because the fat needs cleaning! The Display in the shop is the DIRTIEST I've ever seen! Now this is the 4th time in two years! I've had a terrible supper! Time to give up on you guys now! I've said before the place needs an extractor fan big time it's like walking in to a house fire! The guy who fries the food should go on a cookery course maybe health and hygiene course! I don't know how the people of Silloth put up with this? Clearly the worst meal again! No wonder so many negative comments on here! And saying it to your face wouldn't make much difference I think! Stand on the other side of the counter and have a look and see what you're customers see! Jeezo give yourselves a shake! An hour with Gordon Ramsey yous guys are needing!
