Short Blue in Great Yarmouth

A short review as we only had breakfast here today and going to try a main meal sometime shortly. Please try it here for breakfast. I'm very critical when eating out especially breakfasts as so much can go wrong. We had the full English breakfast and I was quite amazed by the value for money. My wifes poached egg was perfect!!! My biggest bugbear is a hot breakfast and this was hot. A very good plus in my books. I don't understand why we were the only ones in there. Perhaps Easter holiday? I hope this review will at least make some people give it a go. It opens at 10am a little later than some but worth the wait Now my score, I have very high standards. 4.6* out of 5* one of my highest. How could it be better for breakfast? More customers, open earlier but things negate each other, longer hours without guarantee of customers.

What a lovey pub! Food is fresh and well priced, and full of flavour. Fantastic beer garden and friendly staff. Chips are actually homemade which is a rarity these days. Chefs have pride in their work and it shows. Ales are lovely as well!

Toast royal I had for breakfast was fantastic the service was friendly and kind. Great place to for a nice breakfast, lunch, dinner or a night out. 100% will be back again. Thank for the food!

I visited this morning with my kids & grandkids for breakfast . What a hidden gem !.first visit for me and certainly will not be my last !.The food was exceptional in quality and price ,as was the service !..I used to use a well known brand further down the road but not anymore . Much better quality food ,service and attention to detail .Highly recommend:-)

I've had lunch here several times now and never been disappointed, it's a lovely pub with a warm friendly service whether just drinking and/or eating. This was my first Sunday lunch and it was lovely and great value. I've already rebooked as it is very popular to ensure I don't miss out. My only small critique is how dark and gloomy it was, there aren't many lights and the few that are there are angled towards the wall. I always prefer it brighter during the day if possible.

The Gorleston on Sea life boat shop volunteers went for our Christmas meal 😋 I would just like to say the welcome was very warm fabulous surroundings and as for the food , as I have worked as a chef my opinion is amazing One of the best meals I have ever consumed all fresh food no ping ping 2 courses were £15 absolutely fabulous 👌 If you had a pud you were in for a treat No little tiny Christmas pudding They were huge 😍 and very tasty I would give this place 11 out of ten Give it a go You are in for a treat

My daughter came here with her young family for breakfast and recommended it to myself and hubby, we were very impressed with the friendly service and the delicious breakfast. Thank you we will all be back soon.

A lovely quirky pub oozing with character & history. Heard great things regarding this place from friends & on social media about the brilliant food & Sunday roast therefore it had big expectations to live up to & boy it did 👍 I had the seafood platter for one & the others had the roast. My meal was awesome, so much lush tasty seafood. The others had the Sunday roast which they also said was fantastic followed by a pavlova desert mmmmm also so nice ! Thank you Kev & to the top chef & team in kitchen, whoever you are well done & appreciated 🏅🏅🏅 see you soon 👍

Lovely traditional pub with a garden at the back. Had a delicious fresh cooked breakfast which was excellent. Definitely recommend a visit.

Five years in Gorleston, and only now discover the Short Blue. Don't be put off by the location, beyond the main highstreet, or the entrance that we always thought looked closed down, for through the doors is a charming olde worlde looking pub(but basically the place is a restaurant). Friends have been a few times in the last few weeks and said the food was great - and this from friends used to London restaurants and others across the world... Anyway...enough waffling...BEST Sunday roast out I can ever remember having....and at an amazing £11! Yum yum yum. An absolute hidden treasure.

Excellent service friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Nice beer garden area for those that smoke. Food was really good. Good choices though a little pricier than some pubs.

Visited with my partner, parents, cousins, and cousin wife on Sunday 10 September 2023. Everything was superb - best Sunday lunch ever, food terrific, service friendly and efficient, atmosphere friendly. Perfect ! Will definitely be eating and drinking here again on future visits to Gorleston.

A spontaneous decision to have Sunday lunch out at the Short Blue pub in Gorleston High Street. I sent a message before 10am and had a prompt response saying they could seat us at 1pm. When we arrived the landlord, Kevin, greeted us like long lost friends, and guessed correctly that I was the person who'd messaged earlier. We were seated immediately and ordered two roast dinners, one beef, one chicken. The food was served within 15 minutes, was piping hot and there was plenty of it! It was good home cooked food with perfect roast potatoes and an enormous Yorkshire pudding . We shared a pudding (having seen the size of one!) and tucked into a summer berry pavlova which was delicious. Great meal with two drinks and all for less than £35! We'll definitely return.

Great place to meet old friends

My brother and sister-in-law took us to their favourite place to eat, drink and be merry. So glad they did! We were a huge group but nothing was too much trouble. The lady serving us was attentive without hovering. She made sure everyone had everything they needed and was very kind to the children, mostly teenagers, and made them feel comfortable. The kitchen staff were also excellent, turning out exceptional food, perfectly cooked, HUGE portion sizes (which we were also told about so that we didn't over order) and all arrived to the table in good time. Food and drinks were very reasonably priced. A wonderful place, thanks so much. We'll be back. Pic is my son's 'epic' Surf 'n' turf burger. ☺️

Food and friendiness rxcellent. The major problem that lets it down is access. Pavement outside is appalling. Very difficult for dissbled as road is double yellow with no loading.. from river extreme steep steps

Fantastic pub, great service and food is top class

What a wonderful evening we've just had at The Short Blue.The food really does live up to the hype. Rich the chef is so talented. My son and daughter In law had the sharing seafood platter and it was huge and I mean really huge. I had the steak which was just so tender .Wonderful,Landlord and staff were warm and welcoming even the other customers made us feel at home.Great evening,we could well make this our local.

I came here for lunch just wanted to sit in the garden and have a nice lunch when the owner comes out shouting about my can of sprite I took in, I didn’t mean to upset him so I said don’t worry you can take it sorry I didn’t realise I had it on me and I was going to buy a drink there anyway with my lunch with my friends. He then proceeded to ID us in a very rude way basically telling us to get out we was all over age and even one 17 year old who would have been allowed a drink with her meal with the adults around her which is the law anyways, he then proceeded to be very rude, then my friend goes in to get a drink who he’s once again ID’d she just then said you could have not been so rude and then he refused to serve us at all and we had to leave the nice back garden they had and find somewhere else to eat lunch, compleatly ruined the impression I gave on the pub as many people said it was really nice which I bet it is but the owner is not.

First time visit, proper traditional pub. Shame they only Greedy King beers on, had to have Belhaven Best Bitter !!!

Just popped in for a quick drink, staff were very welcoming. Has a nice little garden for when the weather is nice.

The Short Blue is a fairly small traditional pub that serves absolutely delicious food. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. My friend and I shared the seafood platter. WOW, homemade mackerel pate, perfectly cooked scallops and so much more, only £30. The others had steak burger and pie of the day. All were extremely happy. The landlord was attentive without being overbearing and the chef came to make sure everyone was happy with their meal.

The roast dinner was so tasty , the stuffing was light and flavourful, carrots served whole and red cabbage , cauliflower cheese , proper roast potatoes, chicken nice and tender and the desert wow cheese cake salted Carmel sauce and a lovely flavoured ice cream amazing and priced only £15 for two courses , we will be back thankyou.

Cracking little pub with friendly bar staff. Highly recommended the food. Had the chicken burger and chef Rich doesn't hold back on his portion sizes and yet it all tastes amazing and at great value! Shame the pub is a 5 hour drive away or I would visit more often!

Amazing food and lovely wine. I had the steak and chips, medium rare, it was perfect. A very nice glass of merlot finished it off nicely. My 2 little ones had pancakes which they scoffed, which means it was also highly rated. The pub has a lovely, genuine atmosphere with an interesting history and original features to the building and interior. I would love this as my local.

The food is amazing so tasty and full of flavour, I really can’t rate this enough. Richard is an amazing cook, Kev is an amazing landlord the whole place is a delight to visit and I would highly recommend this place. One of the nicest places in Gorleston

Wonderful traditional friendly pub with supper Sunday lunch menu. We'll worth a pint or two. Nice beer garden over looking the river. They even do a plate for the dog if you ask.

A friendly small pub with bar, garden and excellent food, especially the seafood. We had seafood platter for two with half lobster and fries for £37. There was loads of everything.

Went for Breakfast, such a beautiful morning so we ate in the garden. Delicious food cooked by Rick. If you haven't yet been for Breakfast there I suggest you try it out.

Good pub but ales not good. Had a bad one so changed for a different one and just as bad. Nice pub to drink in but avoid the ales.

The exterior is deceiving. Inside is a lovely typical English pub and friendly landlord. The Sunday roast was excellent and amazingly priced at £10. Definitely will be returning when in the area again.

Lovely pub has a great garden as well love the decor, polite staff would recommend a visit does serve coffee and tea for none drinkers

We held a family event at the Short Blue on 4th May 2022. We had sandwiches and hot food from the kitchen. The sandwiches were beautiful, and homemade hot food (sausage rolls and scotch eggs) had compliments all around. One of the teenagers in the party said it was the best sausage roll they had eaten. Pub staff were great. It was really easy to arrange, and very relaxed. The weather was good, so half of the partly sat in the garden, the other half in the back part of the pub. This is a very traditionally pub, decorated Victorian style with lots of wood, stained glass etc. Dogs are welcome. I highly recommend it. Thank you Short Blue!

Nice little Boozer, had a freshen up since my last visit. Perfect pint, friendly people. Prices a little on the higher side but not unreasonable. Certainly a lot cheaper than a bar up the road!

Very good food especially the roasts and deserts.

One of the most beautiful old bars in the country. Delightful staff who are very very accommodating and friendly. The beer garden is enormous and you can see the sea! Cute pub dog too! So happy with our food l, which arrive hot and was so well made. We will absolutely be back. Wish u could give them six stars. Just a short walk along Gorleston high street towards Yarmouth.

A very old pub in the manner of an old shipping vessel. It still keeps its traditional wooden windows and interior features. There is a garden at the rear with sitting area overlooking the harbour. A set of steps takes you to the harbour below. Well stocked with a good variety of homecooked food. Plenty of old memorabilia of fishing smacks and trawlers and artefacts

Cosy, community pub with some ale, Aspalls cider, and a good selection of spirits. Nice booths for undisturbed nattering.

Little gem hidden in plain sight! Food was amazing and cheap! Can't wait to come back here on my birthday! Staff are so nice as well.
