Shipston Fish Bar in Stratford-on-Avon

Possibly the worse fish and chips I have ever had. Through it all away. The chips weren’t under cooked and were soggy. The fish was like rubber with soggy vile batter and the mushy peas were fluorescent green!. Don’t go there. £24 down the pan!

Disgusting. Not a single thing in our £30 order is edible. Chips and cod clearly reheated from lunch so just a rubbery, soggy mess. Mushy peas have a burned taste. Burger dry as a bone. Literally can’t believe that have the audacity to try and be in business serving this cr*p. I would be embarrassed to give this away from free this alone to charge for it. We will never be back as this is not the first time and we will be sure to tell everyone else local we know to go elsewhere.

Chips mushy fish was so dry think they cooked it the previous week. Even the cat wouldn't eat it. Never again.

Very disappointing brought 2 fish and chips the fish was very dry and the chips weren’t much better did they just warm up lunch times fish ?

Normally have fabulous cod & chips here but this was terrible. Overcooked and grey “cod” and undercooked chips. Perhaps we shouldn’t try it on a Thursday night and certainly wouldn’t risk it if we have visitors.

This place has obviously had a change of ownership recently. As per my previous review, it was awful. However now I just had a fabulous fish and chips, the people were friendly and welcoming which is all you could wish for.

What a mistake. The servers were friendly enough however the food was overcooked, dry and had odd colours (the batter had too much yellow and the mushy peas must of had food colouring in them as the green was unnatural!). If they close on Sunday then I would expect Monday's oil to be clear but you can tell by the food that the oil is well used. I see that people comment how it can be hit or miss. Well hopefully this was an off day because this was the worst Cod and Chips ive ever had. I will take the extra drive next time as I cant risk another experience like this. I havent been here for over 15+ years and it looks like the tiles havent been cleaned since! Sort it out chaps!

Sometimes it’s great sometimes it’s awful. Sometimes portions are large and sometimes they’re enough for a child. Staff members are generally lovely and acocomodating good value for money. Can see why they only have 4 star food rating as always looks untidy.

Pretty good I live in shipston and get it occasionally good fish but batter varies from soggy to crispy the battered sausages aren't my favourite but not my thing anyway they are very generous with the chips. Also if you're having fish I'd reccomend getting haddock not cold as they make the haddock fresh to order if you are happy to wait

I thought the food had improved from the first time we tried this place , not so greasy anymore but I found something amongst my chips which didn’t look pleasant or what I ordered . A family member bitten into their battered sausage and it had a awful Taste and smell they was physically sick , it all went straight in the bin and money down the drain. I think maybe they need to clean their fryers out or something made it’s way into the fryer. Il stick to moreton from now on

I have been here a couple of times since I moved into shipston as I believe in giving a place a chance, however, immediately you can tell that the people serving are not interested, bordering on the downright rude. The chips are soggy, the fish is cheap and thin. The only upside was a curry sauce which is brought in anyway. I can only assume that these unfriendly people have no competition in Shipston, otherwise they would be closed.

The quality has improved recently and the fish and chips (not the pies) are now consistently the best in the area, but is it worth the risk when the food is served and packed by a boy wearing his facemask on his chin as he wraps your dinner?

Quick service and the fish well cooked . All I wanted was a nice piece of fish and that is what I got. Great

So impressed with the fish and chips - perfect batter, fish cooked perfectly and flaking into large chunks and excellent chips. Wouldn’t normally review a fish shop, but this one really impressed me!

Best fish and chips we have ever had from the Fish Bar. Spectacular crispy batter, the haddock was perfectly cooked and the chips were great. We have had some dodgy meals from here in the past but this time it more than made up for them. I just hope they can keep it up!

Six of us had fish & chips from here yesterday evening (3rd Jan) and all were very good, light, crisp batter on white, thick, fish (Cod). Chips were plentiful and not too greasy. Service was friendly, quick and efficient, nothing at all to complain about here.

No hemos visitado durante aproximadamente un año después de una mala experiencia, prefiriendo viajar más lejos a Wellesbourne o Moreton cuando nos apetece una cena de pescado y papas fritas.Anoche, cuando teníamos poco tiempo, decidimos darle otra oportunidad a este chippie.Qué error: patatas empapadas poco apetecibles y un pastel de pollo y champiñones frío como la piedra acompañado de frijoles horneados tibios.Eso es todo por nosotros, nunca más.Yo agregaría que nuestra hija prefirió ir a Kebab House por papas fritas con queso y las disfrutó muchísimo. Deberíamos haber seguido su ejemplo.

Had enough of The George for one day. Breakfast disaster. Chose to return from day out and get fish and chips take away. Great idea, delicious

Just love this fish bar. It's where we go for a treat night. The food is always really good. The kebabs are huge, big enough to share between two people. The fish is always golden battered. Can't beat it

We spotted this place was open as we passed and we were peckish. We just wanted chips. Decent size portion for the money but greasy and I think the oil/fat hasn't been changed in a while. Wouldn't go there again

He comido aquí 4 veces en las últimas 6 semanas.Grandes porciones de patatas fritas que están bien cocinadas y siempre bueno. Una pequeña porción es más que suficiente para una persona.El bacalao rebozado ha producido resultados mixtos, a veces recocidos, a veces parece ser un recalentamiento de la hora del almuerzo, a veces excelente.

Our office loves a kebab Friday after payday and we always have the tikka kebab from the fish bar. so yummy! The daily special is also brilliant and excellent value (mini fish, sausage, chips and curry sauce for less than £4!)

Great staff terrible food. Have been going there for several years,as no other chipshop near. Food has always been dreadful.

Never been disappointed. Always friendly staff. Good food and service. Plenty to choose from. Even a portion of chips on its own will fill you up! So glad we have a great chippy in Shipston! Thanks guys 👍🍟

Saturday lunch good service, friendly staff,lovely chips, we had kebab chips , spicy chicken , fish , pies, a meal for 5 good value for money. Local chip shop.

We are very lucky to have this gem of a chip shop in Shipston, huge portions of well cooked fish and chips without leaving an oil slick on the paper. Friendly helpful staff.

Called in at lunchtime for 2 cod and one portion of chips, very good value at less than a tenner. The fish portions were large with decent batter and no grease, the whopping portion of chips were ok.

Staff are lovely, food is fast and tasty, good range to pick from and maaaaaassssive portions. Keep up the good work.

I live locally to Shipston. Hence the name. However I often visit the chip shop for a laugh on the weekends. However this weekend seemed to take the Bourbon biscuit out of the jar; I came in the chipshop with two of my pals, and ordered a small tray of chips and and a kebab and to my surprise one of the staff members started wiping my kebab on there head, I was horrified. Her sweaty head rubbing against my kebab. After she had removed my kebab from her head she pulled out a tray and put some extra brunt and greasy chips on the tray, all I can say is I was pleased with the taste and would come again.

Personalmente me gusta las patatas fritas servido aquí, yo sólo he conseguir papas fritas con salsa de curry, pero es agradable para las porciones de buen tamaño a un precio muy barato. Aunque es muy grasiento y considerado bastante malo, es un lugar que todos podemos admitir que visita más que nos gustaría simplemente porque es justo allí. Realmente lo recomiendo, pero no en el sentido de que deben salir de su manera de comprar la comida, pero como si lo que quieres es una comida local y tarde en la noche, entonces sí parada aquí.

Superb traditional fish & chips, huge portions, great value they never mind putting fresh fish on to fry for me, good honest value!

Fácil de aparcar y pop en cuando pasando a recoger una buena comida tradicional para llevar pescado y patatas fritas durante las noches. A veces hay que esperar para el pescado cocinado, pero luego es un momento ideal para pop al otro lado de la calle a la herradura para una pinta. Inn No hay nada especial sobre la comida, pero amplia, raciones y sabroso.

Just like other reviewers we were served a HUGE portion of chips. We had to stop the server from piling even more chips on to our serving. They weren't the best we had ever had, but nor were they the worst. The fish was flaky with a crispy, bright orange batter. Fish portion was quite small. Cod and chips cost £5.60.

The staff sweat all over the chips and very dirty. I went once with a few mates and it was disgusting. They gave me my chips and I gave it back I asked for a refund manger laughed at me and gave me an extra sausage and I slapped him round the head with it.

In the past, the fish and chips have not tasted fresh, but this year there is a big improvement. Huge portions and the fish looks and tastes really firm and fresh.

We have used this place several times over the last few years and the staff are always friendly and the chip portions very large and tasty.It can be difficult to park near by as it is on the main road but there is parking down a side road.

This is a take-away rather than a restaurant, but it's always busy and the food is your standard chip shop fare. As I live locally, I wouldn't go anywhere else for fish & chips! The Daily Special is a great idea - a small portion of fish & chips, with a sausage and peas/gravy/beans for around £3.50 - just the right amount of food for me, and for a good price.

Just your general chip shop selection ... large / small fish (cod or haddock), battered beef burgers / sausages, fried chicken, saveloys, fish cakes, and various meat pies, not to mention mixed kebabs, with AMPLE portion of chips. Cold drinks too. Parking not always ideal outside the shop, especially if there is a long queue. Generally very busy of a weekend.

Good chippy with a comprehensive selection on offer. Had to wait a few minutes for haddock but it was cooked within a reasonable time

The local Chippy has a lot to commend it. Servers are almost always friendly and helpful, although sometimes a little fraught from sheer numbers waiting to be served. Food is good and portions average for this type of establishment. If you like your fish, chips and mushy peas I'm sure you won't be disappointed. If you are looking for a gourmet meal then I guess you would not visit a chip shop anyway!

been waiting for over a year for this takeaway treat and sat one hour later with a gippy tummy and a lot of disappointment. had fish and chips, greasy tasteless chips, dry fish in what i can only describe as an orange soggy casing, peas were even terrible. i really recommend that you avoid this place, and the donor kebab was salty and yuk!!!!

There's not a lot to be said really other than it's terrible. Massive portions try to unsuccessfully mask how bad it is.

Takeaway. THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS, MY WIFE AND I HAVE EVER TASTED.We are 69 and 70, have partaken of fish and chips, pretty much, country wide, and never had such delicious F&C anywhere at any time. Golden, slightly crisp batter, caressing white flakes of succulent cod and complimented with delicious chips. All fried in clean oils and served in a clean and welcoming environment.These people deserve your business, go on, go a bit out of your way, lovely area and fine meal.
