Alcester Square Fish Bar in Stratford-on-Avon

I regularly visit Alcester Square fish bar and I am always greeted with smiles and excellent service. The food is fantastic, particularly the kebabs that are hot, tasty with crisp fresh salad. Yeah, the £10 minimum on card spend is a bit of a pain but hey, it's a small family business and if banks didn't charge such a high transaction fee then perhaps is would be lowered. Great job and see you soon !

i had saveloy and chips and the reason why i went there, battered kebab rings. the chips tasted of very old oil, most were brown, a few were even green and only the odd few were a nice golden colour. the saveloy was tasty but cold. the battered kebab rings, save your money, they were disgusting. you get 5, i ate a quarter of 1 and binned them. very greasy and tasted like very cheap burger not kebab. just horrible.

Very over priced. Battered Mars bars are nice extra as not many places do them. Food was only ok alot of bad chips. Fish was nice.

I'm not too sure what has happened to this place but the past few times the chips, pies and kebab meat haven't been as good as previous. On Friday I ordered fish and chips and was asked if I wanted large or small? I queried what large consisted off (if it was just more chips?) but I was told that the fish was bigger. I ordered the supposed large fish and chips along with curry sauce and was surprised that the total was £13.50!! That's almost restaurant prices. I thought oh well it should be a decent size but once home I unwrapped the meal and couldn't believe the size of the fish.... It was no bigger than the regular size! I know cost of things has gone up but £13.50 for fish and chips and a small cup of sauce is ridiculous, especially when it doesn't taste as I'd expect. I think Monica's in Evesham will be getting used instead even though it's out of the way.

Good luck if you like to be served by rude people and wait 25 mins for 1x fish&chips this is your place look no further.Lots of confusion and frustration with orders there system does not work the wait when people are hungry is not a good experience.On the positive side the food when you get it is fresh and decent but you have to walk over hot coals whilst juggling the with the psychotic moody management situation.

Was going to eat here, but they have an antiquated policy of card payments over £10 only. Not used cash since pre-covid times. Makes them seem a bit money orientated rather that customer or even food orientated. Avoided.

I couldn’t believe how bad these chip were, it was like they’d been sprinkled with sand not salt. Every mouthful was gritty, with what I don’t know, but all of us ended leaving them. In addition, they were soggy and dripping in fat, really bad.

I live in Stratford but I always go to this shop for my fish and chips. The portions are so large that I can only eat the special which is great value for £7.00. You can have fish and chips, a choice of sauce and a choice of hot or cold drink for this. I have never had a bad meal the food and service is always excellent. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. I can definitely recommend this chip shop I honestly think it is the best in the area and certainly better than any of the chip shops in Stratford!

Huge, huge Mixed Kebab in a Naan. Was delicous and packed with fresh salad and mixed meat. Had a large but the regular will be more than enough for anyone. Would recommend 👌

It's really good. The huge portions make up for the wait, doesn't work out much faster if you order over the phone but always pop in to get my dad some chips

Super friendly service, veey busy which always bodes we'll, and what turned out to be easily the best food in the area. Between our group we had battered and plain sausages, chicken kebab, fish, chips, curry and gravy. All fantastic. This was our first visit as we were passing through Alcester, but I will be making the journey in future as it was so good.

Great quality and large portions

Unlike so many other chippys this one has it just right, order them wait outside so you are not trying to get passed people stading in the door. Good size portions, so much so, we ended up sharing a medium bag of chips for 2 of us, and we have big appetites...Friendly staff too.

Nice fish and chips. Prices commensurate with the area. Odd rule in these Covid days of a minimum spend of £10 if paying by card/contactless. Probably need to change their card handler for a better rate so they can drop the ridiculous £10 rule.

We have eaten fish and chips a couple of times over the past three weeks. We then tried the large kebab meat, salad and chips. It was a tasty and absolutely huge portion and we could have managed with one portion between the two of us. The staff are decent and cheerful and the place is clean. We loved the food here and went back a few times. It's right next door to a Supermarket and our excuse was to go shopping (but we actually pigged out on the kebab meat!) We will return again and again. (Thanks for your cleanliness and cheerfulness.)

Partner has just picked up a chip shop locally. Chips all brown and taste like cardboard! Felt like they have been left out for the past two days. Battered sausage rock hard and stale. I phoned them as it was that bad and I never complain! Nothing but rudeness from the owner. No alternative given from them and no apology. NEVER AGAIN!!!

I popped in tonight and I’m disgusted with how I was spoken to. After queuing outside I went in and stood for at least 5 or 6 minutes at the counter being completely ignored by the 4 staff in there. I asked if someone was going to serve me to which I was told ‘we’re doing something else’. I said that I hadn’t been acknowledged at all since I walked in and the girl behind the counter told me that ‘no one asked you to come in’. Honestly what appalling customer service. I just walked out. I’ve been coming here for years but won’t be going back again.

Came on our way home from a couple of drinks in town in the early evening. The food was all fantastic, much better than Seafoods in Bidford, which is unfortunate as living in Bidford this is much more convenient. We'll definitely be making the extra journey and making this place our new go-to for fish & chips from now on!!

I ordered 1 large fish, I small fish and 1 scampi. I was told it would take just 5 minutes. I waited 20 minutes and saw 5/6 people who ordered after me leave with their order. A couple of people who were also waiting for their order, specifically one lady standing beside me asked if I had a special order because she could not help but had seen quite a few people who ordered after me have left and I was still stood waiting. She suggested I should check in case I had been forgotten. With that, I walked into the shop and politely asked about my order which from 5 mins wait time had now turned into 20 mins. To my utter shock, a man (possibly the shop owner or manager) walked towards me and told me sternly to "Wait For Your Order Outside". I explained I just wanted to be sure I had not been forgotten and retreated to wait outside again. 5 mins thereafter he made a comment loud enough for me to hear from outside the shop about the "scampi order for the woman in a rush". Shortly after my order was ready. The person who gave me my package apologized for the wait. I told him I didn't mind the wait as long as I was told beforehand. Neither am I an impatient person having waited patiently for 20 mins before going in to check on my order. I told the person the issue was not the wait or the mistake of them failing to inform me how long the wait would be. The issue was the "shop owner /manager". He was blatantly rude and obnoxious in the manner he had spoken to me and had no remorse. With a 25 mins wait in total plus an outrageously rude shop owner/manager, I will never set foot ever again in this shop even if it is the only fish and chips shop left in the UK. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!

Amazing service and food! Bought kebabs and fish&chips from there recently and all cooked fresh with freshly made salad. Very decent portions and good price's. Also daughter ordered mixed red&blue slushy and it was done in very creative way not like other places just pour you half blue and half red on top. Would highly recommend to try it yourself!
