Thoroughly enjoyed our recent visits to The Ship Aground whilst staying in our bungalow in the area. As always, we received a warm welcome from Julian, Alison, the rest of the team and the locals, with the beer to its' usual high standard. The place was buzzing on the occasions we visited and I only wish that this pub was in Cardiff!! Looking forward to our next visit.

We visited every night during a recent holiday at Fishguard Bay Holiday Resort. The landlord and landlady, along with the locals, were so welcoming. The drinks were well priced and the basket meals were both scrummy and great value. Will definately be back next time we visit this area of the country.

We had a couple of drinks with friends and it was lovely to visit again after such a difficult year. It was warm and welcoming and felt “normal” which was very nice. The refurbishment that Julian and his family have done looks great. The drinks were good value and not overpriced. We were reluctant to leave but we will be back. Next time we will have food which looked simple and appetizing on the nearby tables.

Staying at Dinas Cross for our Pembrokeshire holiday, how fortunate to have this wonderful pub in walking distance. The Shipwreck beer is beyond comparison. A fabulous tipple served by Julian the landlord. Although very much s locals pub, this place is a must for any beer drinkers that love a fine real ale..

The pub did not follow Covid safety requirements. None of the staff wore face masks. Customers were able to wander around without face coverings. They did not enforece table service only with a number of customers standing at the bar. Although there was supposedly a one way system customers seemed to move around with no regard to any one way system. As a result I, as someone who is at high risk due to medication, did not feel safe to remain in the pub.

Visited the pub several times during our stay in the local area last weekend. The pub was very clean and inviting, and had a good choice of drinks available. The landlord was very friendly and chatted several times. Table service was also very good. The locals were also very friendly and enjoyed a good laugh. The pub was decorated to a nautical theme and had a big log fire which was much needed on quite a cold, wet weekend. Despite being busy, the pub was clean and Covid safe. Would definitely visit if we are ever in the area again.

Our 'local' during a two-week cottage holiday in Pembrokeshire, this is a friendly little place with good food and a decent selection of beers. Menu selection was not huge (and strangely, this is the only pub I can ever remember without fish & chips of some description in it's repertoire) but there's something to keep everyone happy. Only slight downer is the landlord's tendency to play music at a rather antisocial volume.

Julian and Alison are the new hosts of a famous old pub, which used to run by a miserable old landlord who thought , atmosphere similar to the atmosphere found inside a box of Bryant and May matches was good enough for The Ship Aground ...the new owners are warm friendly folk who provide everything a good old fashioned pub should be, .log fire, home cooked pub food, great beer and wine and a relaxing atmosphere that oozes old fashioned charm, rarely found in pubs nowadays.

During our stay in Dinas Cross on many cold dark evenings I would trudge up the hill to the Ship Aground, being our closest pub. The bar is warm, comfortable and cheery. The open fire offers instant comfort from the chill winds that blow outside. As a testament to the warmth mine host presides seated behind the bar in an open neck shirt offering wisdom and drinks in equal proportion. On occasion one might get to chat with the friendly locals who converse in the magnificently lovely Welsh accent. I am informed that there is a strong feeling that the Welsh language should be preserved against new arrivals.I travelled many thousands of miles for the odd pint of Guinness and the old Ship Aground was able to provide that fine drop of dark healing goodness.

The pub itself is well decorated warm and clean. But what use is any of that when you aren't welcome. 7 of of all 30 something professionals had had a long walk. I popped my head in to see if our lovely behaved dog could come in and he just bluntly said no. not oh I'm sorry our policy is no dogs. or even display a sign. nope just no. so we decided to tether the dog outside. We came in and he was too busy watching rugby to welcome us. next a friend asked for red wine. and he went which one? ummm. .. with no menu and only mini bar bottles behind him she couldn't see the choice and he had no inclination to offer up any choices. in fact he seemed annoyed that she wasn't able to make a choice. she had to explain that she couldn't see and ask for choices, where he sighed and barked Shiraz, Merlot... clearly bored that he had to list even two options. she chose and after he grudgingly served us he stood arms crossed. before returning to his friend at the bar. my friend took a Stool from the other side of the bar so she could sit with us and face the window to keep an eye on the dog. don't do that, he barked again, people can't get passed. people? apart from his friend we were the only ones in there!as soon as we could finish the drinks we left as soon as we could and went down the road to the freemason arms who were so much more welcoming. The landlord could have had us there all afternoon with dinner. we would have spent a lot of cash had we felt welcome. his loss...

The pub itself is very nice & what you call a proper pub, but oh dear the landlord is so rude. We were on holiday here for a week & walked in our first night where he didn't even greet us. There were various beers, some I didn't know of & I fancied one & asked if I could just taste it, which normally isn't a problem, only to be told & I quote "we don't do samples here luv" . I then asked for a bog standard cider which I got. He then just sits down on his stool with arms folded & just seems to stare at you. Someone came in & asked what time they do food till & he replied 8pm & when they'd gone he muttered that it's 8pm really but couldn't stand it when they came in at 9pm for food. Basically a very very rude individual.

As a family on a day out with two young boys (4+1yrs) we spotted the sign for this pub & thought it sounded like it might be interesting & possibly fun for our 4 year old who loves anything to do with ships. How wrong we were!! On arrival, there was no sign of any staff & we were informed by the other family who were already there that the landlady was cooking their food. When the landlady finally appeared with their food, the look she gave when she saw us was a look of annoyance & we realised this wasn't starting well. The first thing she said(or rather barked at us) was that "children are not allowed in the bar" you have to go into the lounge(i might point out that it is in fact the same room just further down the 'bar'!My eldest son went with his Dad to order the food at the bar & he was sat & held by his Dad on a bar-stool. She then barked at him that "children are not allowed on the bar-stools".Our son then wanted to have a go at the pool table (like the other teenagers were when we arrived) but no sooner as he & his dad went to the table, the landlady turned off all the lights to stop them from playing! What a frightening experience for us & our children. We felt like we had to keep telling our sons to be quiet and not make any noise or who knows what she may have said/done.In hindsight, we should have told her to forget her food & drinks and left to spend our well earned money in a more appreciated eatery. It is a shame as when the food did arrive, it was quite good.If they do not like children as they clearly do not, then I suggest for them to get a sign on the door saying CHILDREN NOT WELCOME. Or maybe it should just read no outsiders welcome as they clearly do not appreciate any outside business. How they survive in these tough times for pubs is very hard to comprehend. Do not waste your money here, go somewhere else, anywhere else!!

DONT go here at all. Soon as we walked through the door with my 8 year old son the landlord had an STINKING attitude and was very rude towards us, I asked if he had any wkd or disorano and he told me they only did proper drinks. My son got on the stool and he raised his voice saying no kids by the bar. Fair enough but there was no need for him to raise his voice at my son. We then wen into the back lounge to play pool and he told us to get off his pool table coz it was a league table. I've never met anyone so rude in my life what a horrible horrible man !!!,

Should have read the reviews first - the building is fine, beer reasonable BUT what an ignorant, rude pair running the place.Only hope is that they will go bust ( probably soon as virtually empty ) and a landlord who has some personality takes over.Don`t usually leave neg. reviews boyt this deserves a minus score.

Well, we just came to the site to leave a review and found that we should have checked here first! We arrived to have lunch for four adults, somewhat later (1.15pm) than we would have been normally because our grandson of 15 months had been fed first. As we entered, the woman behind the bar - which was, not surprisingly given our experience, completely empty - said, "We don't cater for children, sorry!" We decided, thankfully, not to bother explaining why that wasn't actually any problem, and left. We've left a glowing endorsement of the superb place we found nearby in Newport, friendly and good value for money.

We hated the experience from start to finish ! When we arrived , the landlord was looking very grumpy . Then , it all got worse !! A family arrived , treated nicely by The Landlord , who were served much quicker than us . We hadn't even ordered our food !! This was starting to get disgraceful , when our food arrived , (finally!) I was already disgusted about this place . (the food wasn't too bad .) And the worst part : we hadn't even finished our meals and The Landlord took away our plates !! This shows you - some Landlords have no respect for others . (which isn't fair) We never ordered a sweet in the end , after finishing our meals . We all just went back to our holiday cottage , full of anger . Don't come here with kids !! (on the other hand though , the Landlady was very friendly .)

The Landlord of the pub was the most unwelcoming bloke I've ever encountered. In hindsight I would have told him to forget my order and have left as quick as possible. Instead we endured the awkward silence and grumpy barking landlord who obviously hates kids and laughter and serving people in general. If looks could kill we'd all be dead. We drank our drinks very quick and thanked our lucky stars that we'll never step foot inside there again.

This is a lovely place to stay we had one night here and we were very well looked after the kitchen staff came in early for us as we had a tight schedule to keep which was appreciated. The food both in the evening and breakfast was excellent would definitely stay again.

Neat out of the way spot on a minor bit of the estuary. Lots of outdoor waterside seating. Nice ale.

Well it says it’s open when we got there.. it’s not ! All locked up, lights off, no sign of life. Not sure what’s going on in Fishguard but most of the places that say are open are closed ! Found ONE cafe open at 10am, Cresswells.. and that took some searching
