Shimla Tandoori Restaurant & Takeaway in Telford and Wrekin

Used to come here years ago but moved other side of telford tried today 2 adults 16 years old boy and 8 years old girl it was quit cold in there but ok,the food was amazing my 8 years old said it was 5 star service was very good will be returning again soon.

Been using Shimla for some months after a long break as food became very poor. Up til last night, the food has been lovely. last night, the mint yoghurt was sour and clearly off. Called to warn the restaurant but no offer of replacement. Onion salad old, popadoms stale and biriani very bland. Not sure what’s going on but think we will be taking another break.

Food was so terrible, service was so bad and waiters were rude. Never will I step foot in this place again! Highly recommend to stay away and find another restaurant!

Not good! Visited with 2 colleagues, whilst on a work trip. Curry’s were terrible and all commented this was possible the worst curry we had tasted. Hoping to be in work tomorrow.

3 of us had popadoms, starters, mains and drinks for £90. The food was lovely, very tasty and well prepared. The people who served us were lovely - warm and friendly. This restaurant is local to us and we visit quite regularly and have always enjoyed the food and the service.

No atmosphere the room was cool and the toilet area had no heating switched on. The service was surly and the food was unspectacular.

This was awful food both me and my partner had flat bland food could have got better from a supermarket and out of of the reduced going out of date section. They are not interested if you complain so just don't go save your money and your toilet roll and avoid at all costs find a good chip shop .

Nice chicken in my dish but slightly sweeter than I prefer, beer was good but cokes were flat

A meal out with the In-laws (their first time here) and yet again this restaurant did not disappoint! Speedy, polite service followed by fantastic food, never have we had a bad meal here!!

I very rarely write reviews but feel compelled to write one tonight, after reading a number of recent reviews here. We are not in the realm of fine dining, but that is not what it says on the tin. We are in the arena of a reliable delicious & tasty food offering, by friendly staff. What I will say is that the food & service are always wonderful. Everything you want from a little gem of a curry house. I've been both regularly ordering takeaways and occasionally eating in at the Shimla for well over 20 years; it used to be regularly for both pre COVID. Long may it last Family for Gnosall

Saturday night, place was empty that should of told us something..... We ordered popadoms, two starters, combo curry, rice chips naan and we were told we had not ordered enough we must order another main. The waiter was creapy, unprofessional and very rude when we complained the prawn starter had prawns with the thick black vein in them🤢 he said it was the prawns problem 😂. We left without finishing the meal as he became aggressive because we had complained.

Brilliant meal, really tasty and nice service.

Table of 9, none of us will return. Staff rude and unhelpful. All the food came cold, watery and bland. The kids were starving so we made do as had waited over an hour since ordering. We raised our concerns to the waiter saying the meal wasn’t very good when he cleared the plates, he cut us off ‘should have said earlier’ despite one of the dishes being completely inedible. We asked for the bill, 20 minutes later nothing. One of the men in our party was allowed to pay at the counter, the women were made to sit at the table and wait, unsure if this was just rudeness or blatant sexism. Go to the Shakespeare.

It's all a bit average, food, decor, music. We thought it was £10 for starter, main, rice and bread on a quiet Thursday night, but in the very small print it said sundays only.

I popped in for dinner and was given a warm welcome. The food was absolutely delicious and they catered to my need for low carb food. I’m hoping to return whilst I’m still here and would thoroughly recommend!

Spend your money elsewhere in a restaurant that appreciates your custom. My friends and I weren’t all that hungry so we called in spontaneously and ordered poppadoms and starters each (plus drinks). The waiter seemed insulted by the fact we ‘only’ ordered starters… He then proceeded to snatch the menus back and stropped off. We were THE only customers in the restaurant may I add. About half way through our poppadoms, he returned and said: “this time I’ll let it slide but my manager says that you have to usually order mains!” He then alluded to how much of a favour he was doing us by ‘letting’ us have only starters! Starters then arrived with their flat bread component missing; revenge for only ordering starters I suppose. Absolute disgrace of a place. We weren’t all that hungry, but to be honest we probably would have ended up staying for more food if the atmosphere was better. There are 2 other Indian restaurants (that I’ve been to) in the centre of Newport and both are better than this dive. Shimla: if you haven’t priced your menu correctly, then change it. Don’t take it out on your customers.

Waited 45mins for starters last night, another 40 mins for mains. Service so slow, restaurant half full at most. Food quality was poor and not very hot when it eventually arrived. No hotplate to keep dishes warm, dirty plate and then was overcharged by a tenner. Food and service quality not a patch on what it used to be. Will stay local next time....

Top notch! Great food at sensible prices, friendly staff plus take your own drinks OR buy in house. We will be back :-)

Ordered takeaway this evening, it was awful , arrived cold , tasteless and very waterery , very disappointed .

I was given a very odd welcome - not quite hostile, but certainly not friendly. However they soon put that right as I think they saw that I was not impressed. On being asked what I wanted to drink I said 'Sparkling water'. This was duly served in a glass - presumably from a Lidl's 17p 2 litre job. Poppadums and pickles not really up to much and I certainly wouldn't order them again. The main course was very good, carefully served, plentiful and tasty. I was not offered a sweet menu and my request for a kulfi was treated with a frown and hesitancy but they brought one. My 330ml of sparkling water was a truly outrageous price and a lesson - never order a drink without the drinks menu.

This Is buy far the worse Indians I have ever eating out off in my life I ordered a delivery from this place tonight the starters was that bad I didnt even attempt the mains avoid at all cost they dont even know the different between fresh king prawn and a 5 year old frozen shrimp terrible

After being delivered the wrong curry and naan bread I was brought another meal again wrong order I was told that I was able to have my next order free. I rang and ordered for tonight everything ok and when they turned up I was told I had to pay for it!!! I only went back because it was free had a few tasteless curries won’t ever be going again!!

The Shimla provided an amazing dinner once again. We just love this place! Breads are fabulous, the rice is not greasy as some can be, and the king prawn dish that I had tonight was just stunning!

Food was bland 1/2 portion of rice found on take out meal, to late to get replacement so really not great. I will not be returning, poor! Very Disappointing!

First time we have been here recommend by our friends and wasn't disappointed, service was good, staff friendly, food was excellent, main meal portion i thought was on the small size but for the money you pay it's well worth it.highley recommended will be going back again.

Overall a good meal. Very tasty and good portions, service is pretty good too.Only down side is horrendous "dehli belly" the following day which is unusual as we have an Indian meal at least once per week.Flavour and choice is fantastic. Not too badly priced and you can take your own wine/beer

We go here regularly and the food is always tasty, the wait is never too long even when it's really busy and the service is always friendly and our favorite curry house to visit as a family, also you can order off the menu which is a bonus thanks to the staff always!

Have used this restaurant many times in past years with out issue - but not in recent years, and won't be using again.The 2 take away meals ordered had a few eatable lumps of chicken in (very few) and that's about it. Masses of very thin liquid sauce, (was expecting a creamy passanda) which it was nothing like at all. Unfortunately After high expectations it went in the bin...total waste of money. Had they been closer I would have returned it.

Shocking have had better out of a frozen meal .the give away is in the price .you get poor food for cheap prices .have eaten countless Indian meals .that was the worst but a mile .the staff are friendly .and chatty also flat coke disgusting .customers bring there own drinks .this is supposed to be the top Indian restaurant in Newport.all I can say is avoid to save your money .my vindaoo was more like cat food . Didn't even finish my meal .luckily I'm not local .so I won't have go back.

Food was ready and waiting, lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, and Owner was friendly and helpful. Food was very good and enjoyable, and good value for money. Will visit again soon

First visit here but just ordered a takeaway quite busy in the restaurant We were very impressed with the food & service plus the price was very very reasonable,we would certainly use this place again

Wow, what can we say! Fabulous and attentive service and exquisite food. We were not in any hurry - enjoying the company of our friends, so the restaurant was happy to protract our food to suit us

We eat here every week and the food is consistently excellent . We go “off” menu and there is never any issues. Always busy and service is friendly and efficient. Lots of banter with the guys. This is the best curry house in the town. Give it a try you you won’t be disappointed.

My family and I were visiting Newport and read the good reviews for this restaurant. We ordered a takeaway for six of us. Put simply the food from here is insulting to say it's Indian.the food was disgusting and shameful to sell to people. I had a tandoori king prawn masala, a dish I've eaten in countless restaurants. It was the strangest colour, a giveaway that something was wrong. And it was. Just horrid. None of us enjoyed our meals....sadly we were at our dying mother's bedside and had more pressing matters to deal with. I would urge you to make yourself beans on toast rather than set foot in this foul restaurant.

There were six of us and we ate a variety of dishes. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and would be happy to go back anytime. Four of our party were visiting from Twickenham where they eat similar food every week so we were pleased that the visit was such a success. Being local ourselves we will be visiting again soon.

Used it on two occasions in one week. I think they have two chefs. The first day we were lucky and spoiled because the food was absolutely amazing but the next day was not up to that standard. Consistency is business and i hope the owner understand and act on my contractive criticism.

Stayed in Newport for a week on a course- I needed to find somewhere to eat in the evening- used TA and decided to give Shimla a go.... the fact I ate here 4 nights out of 5 says it all. TOP curry every night.

Rogan Josh more like a chicken casserole - zero flavour. Chicken shashlik very bland. Friendly service, and to be fair they took the price of Rogan Josh off the bill. Won't be returning when there is much higher quality food available in the area.

We have been using Shimla for years & never would go anywhere else. But we have noticed alot of poor reviews lately. Last night our food was nothing short of awful . We had 3 different dishes and they all tasted the same, were very watery, bland, and not alot of meat. Even the poppadoms were rubbish. After being a long term customer for around 15 years we feel we will have to look elsewhere.

Very good value either eating in or takeaway especially as you are allowed to take in your own drinks. Service is great and always friendly and polite.

Very poor take sways, had a special rogan josh, meat was obviously warmed up , lamb was very hard and chewy. tasteless curry, very disappointed.

I love my curry and living near areas with very large numbers of Indian Restaurants it would be fair to say that I've had quite a few Western-style curries in my time. I'm sorry to say that this was one of the poorer ones I've had. It didn't bode well when I entered their little courtyard. This could have been rather nice, but in the middle was a rotting statue with just one arm. Five of us then got stuffed under the stairs. I ordered a Chicken Tikka Jalfreze Madras hot and what I received was indeed a chicken curry, but they must have left out most of the flavour-providing spices and it wasn't Madras hot. Not much rice either, which seems mean given that rice is so cheap. Others of my party felt exactly the same. One of the waiters was very friendly, but another looked as though he didn't want to be there. Normally, I would have returned it, but our cousin from Australia was buying and I didn't want to upset her so I let it pass at the time. What made matters even worse was a football referee shouting to a friend on another table for 10 minutes as though he were still on the field. The manager did nothing to stop this awful racket.

Had an amazing meal (takeaway) from here on the night of the Newport Nocturne! I do love a Korma, and theirs did not disappoint! I would say this is the best Curry place in Newport!

Oh my! What a stunning meal again! The North Indian garlic chicken was sweet with onions and hot with chilli-divine! The Darjeeling chicken was hot and “flavoursome”. Lovely bread and hot plates for everything making the meal retain heat throughout. Loved it!

Visited for a takeaway on a Friday evening, having eaten here reasonably regularly over the years. I think there has been a change of ownership, or the chef to restaurants determent. Rice was not freshly cooked, Chicken was tough & chewy, sauce was bland and watery. To be fair, the meal was returned & a refund was offered with no haggle. A shame, but I won't be visiting any time soon.

Only visited as the Premier Inn pub was shut. Not easy to find, slightly hidden through a doorway off the main road but well worth searching out. Great service and amazing food. Best curry I have had for ages.

Just dropped in tonight, a little impromptu visit and although Bobby wasn’t there to advise and take our orders, we put in a special request for a tweak on the chilli chicken heat level and it was stunning!

Saturday is definitely curry night. My hubby and I haven’t visited this restaurant for some time. And we were pleased to say it was just as good. Great food and friendly staff. Recommend this resturant when in Newport.

Food ok but not correct order, spoke to waiter and he ARGUED that it was correct.

We were out walking on Saturday, enjoying the lovely weather and called in at the Shimla on our way back. This place is our favourite Indian restaurant and on Saturday it was the favourite of the town! It was rammed! The food was still excellent, the staff still friendly and polite and we were not rushed even though there were meals being served in all directions. By far the best in Newport! The chicken tikka was succulent and the sauces we chose had real depth of flavour. Great meal and no surprise to us that this place is proving so popular!

Been coming here for many years and the food is always superb ,the staff are extremely friendly always at your service .In my opinion its the best eating place in town
