Shimla Fine Indian Dining in Eastbourne

This is the best I’ve had for a long time. I was recommended here by few friends and I’m definitely be coming back. I’ve found my new restaurant. Very tasty and great service.

First and last time using this restaurant, the best thing I can say about the food is that it was average, disappointing. I wish I had popped over to Waitrose and bought a supermarket curry for a third of the price I paid for this.

Food always served within a good time .. and dishes actually had some good spice and taste to them . Good bindi , good sides etc .. service is polite and helpful, they don't auto add on tip so that's good. Only the decor and vibe let it down slightly as it is what it is ... Smaller place that is comfy . But best I've found in Eastbourne for the money .

Terrible food, this restaurant used to be very good but either they have new staff or just dont care anymore. I CLEARLY marked my food to be VINDALOO HOT PLEASE but it arrived sweet and mild. Obviously they are unable to read or follow simple request.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal from Shimla. It arrived on the dot and every mouthful was delicious. The portions were generous and well presented. We shall definitely order from them the next time we fancy an Indian meal.

Nice food, fantastic service, the servers were kind and patient, they can explain the ingredients in a dish and the process of cooking it, an amazing dinner here.

I ordered a King Prawn Patia and got delivered a Chicken dish. As the delivery was late, the food was cold and the poppadoms stale. Very disappointed as normally the food is very good!

I had a same problem last week that my rice containers were only halfway, did I pay half the money? NO so why do I get half the food two weeks in a row? I have been a customer for over a year so I am bit disappointed on the level of service being on decline.

Everything about Shimla is fantastic. I've eaten in their restaurant and had takeaways many times and each time the food and service is outstanding. The customer service when eating in the restaurant is wonderful and the staff make you feel really valued. The food is just amazing, I highly recommend the Chilli Madras!

I pre booked thinking it would be busy on a Saturday night. The staff were friendly and polite. First impressions restaurant clean as were the table clothes.. The food we ordered wasn't rushed. That didn't bother us. The food was tasty and varied spices. The price including drinks was about £45. Each. We weren't rushed to finish our food.. Downside. Was the toilets you had to go downstairs. But men's and ladies very clean and tidy. Well guys. Brilliant service and and great food. Uxbridge

This was our first visit to Shimla but would definitely visit again. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. We would highly recommend you give it a try.

Outstanding meal, beautifully presented and quick to be served and fed. The staff were so attentive and thoughtful. An excellent experience all round. I would highly recommend having a curry here and can’t wait to come back again. We are so lucky to have this place local to us.

We visited this place for dinner between 8:45 PM and 9:00 PM on 30th May 2024. After selecting some items from the menu, we approached the cashier to place our order. While finalizing our choices, we inquired about a prawn item, specifically asking if it was a curry. The cashier responded with an insulting laugh and asked if we didn't know this. When I explained that we are not from India and are unfamiliar with the dish, he continued to give us an insulting look and a humiliating smile. We felt deeply embarrassed and unwelcome due to his behavior. If you need proof, I urge you to review the CCTV footage from that evening. You will be able to see his facial expressions and hand signs directed toward us. This experience led us to cancel our order and leave the restaurant. We subsequently went to another nearby Indian restaurant where we received much better service. This incident was the only negative experience we had during our visit to Eastbourne. I urge you to address this issue to prevent such poor customer service in the future. We were very disappointed and felt disrespected by your staff member's behavior.

Fantastic meal service great and friendly staff will come back next time I'm in Eastbourne

Firstly, Shimla claims they are "offering takeaway service with free delivery within 5 miles radius for order over £15", which is a lie; I live 4 miles away and when trying to place a delivery order was told that my area is not covered, so had to pay extra to get a delivery via Uber Eats - that is delivered by Shimla's own staff!!! Secondly, I ordered from this restaurant because, being new to the area, the 4.4-star reviews indicated it would be a good choice. I was either unlucky on this particular occasion, or the customers leaving these reviews have never eaten good quality Indian food before. The vegetables were stringy and/or tough and flavourless, tasting like they had come out of a can. The sauce was bland and watery, not creamy and coconutty as it should have been. The paneer was tough and rubbery, with hardly any flavour, or discernible flavour variation between the different dishes it was in. Sad to say that, at least for take out or delivery, I cannot recommend this restaurant at all; there was nothing "fully authentic" about the Indian food I ordered from them.

We enjoyed a meal at Shimla May 2023 and thought it was excellent! The food was really good; traditional favourites like Chicken Tikka Masala that my wife enjoyed and a chefs menu of newer recipes that I chose from. We loved the onion bhajis and sag aloo. The manager and his team were polite and personable, service was very good. Ambience very good; spotlessly clean and fresh interior of restaurant and comfortable seating. Pricing we thought was very good, our bill for 2 people with a drink and tip was c£50. We’ll return next time we’re in Eastbourne. Thank you!

I don’t normally do this but I’m determined to leave a review this time. This was by far the worst Indian food I have ever tasted in my life. Ordered the Lamb Balti, Chicken Biryani and garlic rice. The food was awfully tasteless and bland. Complete waste of my money and time.

I ordered chicken and lamb curry there wasn’t any meat at all just full of horrible sauce that tasted like bbq It was awful threw 70% in the bin just ate bread and rice

Had a couple of nice meals here now, the front of house were very knowledgeable on the food they serve and good to recommend dishes specific to your requirements, very well presented and service was very good, it's a small place so I would recommend booking to guarantee a seat but both times I've been there have been plenty of seating.

Pleasant but tasteless. Not the authentic Indian taste. Ingredients seemed fresh, were less greasy & a lighter meal. Unfortunately it was all cold, possibly due to the plastic containers. Side dish missing & was refunded but with a credit to use at this restaurant again..not likely.

Ihve to say that i am a very fussy eater but it was, First time eating here and it won't be the last time either. The food was fresh and cooked well. Can't wait to go back. The service was 5 stars, made us very welcome.

Called up about small portions, the restaurant hung up on me! Awful customer service. Food didn’t taste bad but expensive for small amounts. We got 2 prawns in the king prawn curry.

unfortunately the mushroom rice was very very soggy and had lumps in it(strange), so not up to scratch and certainly not had it like this before it was awful tbh...it just wasn't right...the onion bhaji was also soggy ..the chicken biryani was ok she said she had better. .chicken tikka massala was ok but I've had better this has been a big disappointment and we won't be using them again....sorry

I am conscious how a negative review can affect a business but in this case I believe it is necessary. I ordered a chicken korma and what I thought was a chicken tikka masala via Deliveroo. Firstly, I am echoing a previous review that I read whereby the chicken korma was watery. Sadly, as you can see from the photo attached, I was left with a watery plate which is not what I expect from an Indian takeaway. The korma was also lacking flavour which was a shame and I did not finish my plate of food. The chicken tikka I ordered was misleading on the Deliveroo app as I expected to receive sauce with it, but received chicken only. Additionally, for almost £5, I received four very small dried onion bhajis which I now regret ordering. On a positive note, the portion sizes were generous and the food was warm. Delivery was quick and I was advised by the delivery man that if I order directly at the restaurant next time, I would receive a free alcoholic drink. This was a nice touch, but sadly I will not be ordering from this restaurant again.

Absolutely the best, wouldn't go anywhere else!

There are many Indian restaurants in Eastbourne that we have eaten from but one of my favourites is Shimla. Don't let a small dining space fool you when it comes to dining here as you will not be disappointed, service is great and food is very tasty. Its a very humble package.

My husband and friends frequent this particular restaurant and love it! (They have tried many of the local restaurants). Tonight I was taken there as a birthday treat and LOVED it.

The restaurant is very clean, quite small, but pleasant. I ordered the chicken vindaloo, pilau rice poppadom and a couple of beers. The food was excellent and good service. Highly recommend

Shimia says on the menu for the phall that you don't want to go there well I did if you like a hot curry like I do then this is for you. If you like vindaloo but it's not hot enough then got to try the phall l had chicken with special fried rice and it was delicious 😋 plus you get plenty.

Absolutely fabulous food. The chicken tikka melted in our mouth. Keema naan was gorgeous. Mohamed and abdul were so lovely. Got to be the best curry ive ever had. Reasonably priced. They even gave us a complimentary drink at the end. Really cant rate shimla high enough.. Thank you guys..👍

Food tasted good but turned out to be very expensive because the portion sizes were tiny … 2 tiny samosas for nearly a fiver is a rip off, I would have expected at least 3 or 4 of that size for the price!

Visiting Eastbourne last week we decided to try Shimla. As soon as we came in the door the wine list was pushed in our faces. My friend had vegetable Masala. The only vegetables in this dish were green beans and onions. She had expected a good mixture of vegetables, such as cauliflower, peas, etc. The masala sauce was basically like a tomato puree and much too sweet. My Madras curry was just like a runny curry sauce with King Prawns in it, It tasted ok, but again there should have been something to fill the sauce out a bit. I shan´t be going there again next time I visit Eastbourne.

Ok, just very standard curry house fayre. Sauces were thin and tasted like cheap ingredients. It was just very average, and definitely not ‘fine dining’. To be fair it was bit cheaper than others but you get what pay for and £36 for two mains, two rice and two nans ain’t cheap!

We’re on holiday and decided to go for an Indian meal whilst here. Walked past Shimla earlier in the day noting the interior is modern, well set out and spotlessly clean. Saw other establishments later but minds made up we returned. We found all the food was hot, beautifully cooked and presented. Plates were warmed too. No long waits between courses and drinks brought to table very quickly when requested. Hot wash cloths were also issued after our main courses, another nice touch. A very pleasant relaxing atmosphere with lovely friendly staff members. We both highly recommend the Shimla at Eastbourne.

Pre ordered food, still arrived 25 minutes late, poor quality.. and cold, naan bread under cooked on a plus side Poppadoms were tasty.

Lovely meal tonight at the Shimla. It was our first time here as we are on holiday. Tasty food beautifully presented. Great service from Momith and all the staff. We would recommend the prawn puri, onion bhaji, chicken tikka jalfezi and chicken tikka masala. We will definitely come again.

Chicken was exceptionally dry and the sauce tasted a little burnt l think maybe because l had an early delivery and the restaurant was closed yesterday.the nan was beautifully cooked and gear taste, also ghobi and Dall very nice. Very polite staff when l rang to confirm order. 1st order. Will try again one night when busier and higher turnover of food.

We tried Shimla for the first time yesterday evening,I have to say the service was outstanding and the food was to match! It is by far one of the best India restaurant's we have tried (and trust me we have tried many)the restrant is small but very elegant & the attention to detail is second to none.if you are visiting Eastbourne for a break make sure you book into Shimla you won't be disappointed, we will certainly be back !

What happened tonight? Worst curry ever, the chicken tikka was so chewy I thought for a second it was frozen so stopped eating. Puke. Very disappointed, won't be using shimla ever again.
