We ordered Pothi Choru (along with fish curry and appam) from here and what we got was horrible to say the least. First of all the delivery packaging was torn. Inside the banana leaf packing there was half of 1 piece of fish (imagine that..!!) and half papodam - all mixed with rice, omlette, veggies and curry. Looked so unappetizing and disgusting that we lost our hunger. Typically when you order a thali, you would expect the items to be packed separately but here it felt like someone pre mixed it by hand and even squeezed a lemon on the customer's behalf. Thankfully, we had ordered a separate fish curry (curry was good but again the fish size could be measured in millimetres) and appam - which was really nice.

Update 2: ordered online. had beef chilly, kerala porotta, Kerala chicken roast, kappa meen, and kappa biryani. Pleasant staff, quick delivery. Food was good. Chicken pieces were a bit bland. Enjoyed the fish curry with kappa. Update 1: reached the restaurant a bit before opening time. Owner generously slowed us to wait inside even though it was not open for guests. A big thank you! Food was awesome. Generous potions, fluffy porotta. Never had that good Kerala porotta in UK. Visit 1 (sometime in 2023): good was a bit too oily. To be fair to the cook, we went on the day before onam, probably the busiest day in their calendar. Payasam - was really good. They charge a 10% service charge without asking/telling. I did not contest it as service was pleasant. Washrooms were neat, tables were small.

FOOD: we had a mixed experience. Some items were outstanding, whereas some items did not meet my expectations, especially the beef roast. Considering the rates were a little bit on the expensive side, I had high expectations and probably that made my experience a tad negative. SERVICE: Excellent and very attentive staff. Clean toilet facility available. AMBIENCE: I loved it. It wasn't busy as we went for lunch on a weekday. Decorations were very good and there were adequate lighting as well. PARKING: street side parking available. Need to pay the parking ticket for the hours and seemed to have few parking spots in short walking distance, but then it was not busy hours!

It's so difficult to get good Indian cuisine where I am from, so a trip to London quickly remedied that. After a show, my husband and I wanted quality Indian food close to where we were. We saw the reviews for Shilpa and they do not do this place justice. This is an absolute gem of a place. I had the King Prawn Tandoori and I had tears of absolute joy! The rice was also spectacular. My husband had the delicious lamb dum biriyani, which he loved. The naan bread was fresh and had a unique flavor. The flavors were so complex and a delight for those of us who want to eat something healthy and tasty. It exceeded our expectations. It just few pieces of chicken that was so hard and chewy , mixed with excess of mint with rice, the rice was uncooked. Could not even swallow a bite, sucha real disaster. We have dined at the Shilpa perhaps once a month for many years. The food is always excelent and very good value. In the past the only drawback was the service; always pleasant enough but very slow. Typically, after arriving there would be quite a long wait and then some nice warm plates would arrive but, by the time the food arrived the plates would be already cold! This evening was different. The warm plates arrived not long after we had placed our order and the food shortly thereafter. Veux que ca dur as Napoleon's mother said when someone encountered her wandering around Versailles.

It is quite small, with simple decor but, we liked the look of the menu, so thought we'd give it a go. I can only say that we're both delighted that we did so. The food was delicious. We particularly liked the idly and cauliflower starters and egg curry and sea bass mains, but there is plenty of choice, with the restaurant serving vegan, vegetarian, fish and meat dishes. We eat Indian cuisine a lot, but still found a couple of dishes on the menu we had not tried before. We were very happy with the service and thought the bill was reasonable. Visited here with three friends after two of them had raved about the food here from a couple of previous visits. From when we arrived, the atmosphere and decor were bleak, and we were questioned multiple times about our booking saying they couldn’t find it (there was only one other table in there so not sure why it mattered anyway?). We ordered a decent amount of food, and every element was a disappointment. Popadoms were chewy and stale, and the dips that accompanied nobody could actually work out what they were. There was a service hatch within our view that had a white shower curtain on the kitchen side, however when it was open we could very clearly see that all our food was just being microwaved, which was also painfully clear when we received the soggiest and saddest onion bhajis I’ve ever been handed in a restaurant. My microwaved tikka masala hardly had any sauce and tasted of nothing, the “special” fish curry was a sad bowl of watery and tasteless liquid with frozen fish in it, and the other two curries I was told were also very plain. Naan breads, along with all our curries, were seen being microwaved and were not fresh at all. When trying to pay, we presented our Meerkat Meals voucher (which my friends have used on every other visit with no problems), and the waitress pretended to not know what it was, then said we couldn’t use it as we hadn’t presented it when being seated (again, doesn’t say on the terms of the offer and has never been an issue before here). My friend then wanted to speak with the manager and the waitress brought the landline over and he had to speak to the manager over the phone? The manager at first said he didn’t understand the offer, and then after some back and forth told my friend that he “couldn’t afford the offer because he has bills to pay” … Don’t we all?! Eventually he was told to pass the phone back to the waitress, and she begrudgingly gave us the discount, we paid and left. Worst Indian restaurant experience I have ever had in my life, would tell anyone to avoid.

We had a simple meal - poppadoms to start, then 3 dishes (2 vegetarian, one seafood) and a rice each between us. All the food was excellent - freshly prepared and freshly spiced. Couldn't find fault with anything. Prices were reasonable. We also noticed that most of the other customers were Indian, which is always a good sign. Would definitely go back and recommend to others.

Madras was less spicy than the mild tilka masala I’d ask for the mrs and on level pegging with the kids korma. The chicken had that taste to it, the one where you know it’s not right even with all the spices covering up. The madras and the masala was basically swimming (drowning) in oil.. if you have even the slightest enjoyment of Indian food then avoid.

The owner will be fully aware of the review that is coming and if I could leave 0 stars I would. Myself and 3 friends visited the restaurant on Thursday. They had dined at the restaurant before and had a very pleasant experience with excellent service. It is a shame that this experience was the polar opposite. When we arrived I told the waitress that we had a booking and told her my name and she said to sit anywhere in the restaurant so we sat down and waited for our other friends to arrive. In the interim we ordered pappadums to share (a very small portion for quite an expensive price), she took our drinks orders and stated that they did not have any cobra on tap which was an issue for my friends the previous time they went (the pints were flat). That was fine we had bottles instead. When our other friends arrived she promptly took our order and took it to the kitchen. The kitchen has a window to the restaurant where you can see in which is partially covered by what can only be described as a shower curtain, and we could see 2 microwaves in use throughout our whole experience, just to bare the below in mind. Our first starters arrived, we had lamb samosas and onion bhaijis. I personally did not have the lamb samosas so will not comment however it was clear the onion bhaijis had not been cooked fresh (despite this being perhaps one of the easiest dishes to prepare fresh) and in fact we could see them being taken out of the microwave. The curry was average at best, again we saw this being prepared in the microwave, and mine had little to no spice or flavour and tasted like it had come from a jar (or had been pre prepared, frozen and heated up). We believe this was the case because in fact, all of our curries were very watery and tasteless as would be the case if it had been heated up from frozen. However I would have not bothered to leave a negative review (despite the microwave situation) had these been the only issues. The real issue came when we were paying the bill. When we paid the bill we informed the waitress we had the meerkat meals discount and please could she adjust the bill accordingly. The meerkat meals discount is 2 for 1 on food (so for the avoidance of doubt you get 2 dishes and pay for 1). Between all of us we are still not sure what the waitresses argument was, despite my friends having used this very same discount on the previous occasions they had visited this restaurant. However I believe gist of her argument was that we needed to have either booked the meerkat meals discount beforehand or told her when we entered the restaurant. I am aware of other marketing (such as Tastecard for example) that imposes these rules however we checked the terms and conditions of the meerkat meals app and that was not the case with this offer. After some back and forth and no real progress with the waitress we were told to wait half an hour so the manager could come to the restaurant to speak to us. We said that’s fine we will wait - we are talking about a bill that was over £130 originally so worth 30 mins wait to get the discount. Next thing we know my friend is being handed a landline telephone to speak to the manager of the restaurant. My friend explains the situation and says the terms are valid and we would like the discount please. Initially the manager makes the same excuses as the waitress i.e we should have booked through meerkat meals (again not a term) however he then changes his mind and says he cannot afford to give the discount because he has bills to pay. I am fully aware there is a cost of living crisis, however quite frankly, this is not my problem and the restaurant have chosen to be on meerkat meals and offer this discount. Again after more back and forth he asks my friend what we want and from the start we only wanted the meerkat meals discount offered (despite the average food and microwave meals, which we could have complained about further but chose not to) which is 2 for 1. He asks us what 2 for 1 is (alarming for a restaurant owner) and we explain it in simple terms. After more back and forth the phone goes back to the waitress. We then get offered our bill, pay it promptly and leave. A few takeaway points here: - They microwave the food - The food is incredibly average and you should not pay full price for it - They won’t offer the meerkat meals discount despite it being offered on the platform (we had to argue with 2 members of staff, also despite using it at this establishment before) - They have cash flow issues as purported by the manager himself so if you are staff I would seriously consider whether you want to work here in future

Our family visit to shilpa was quite an amazing one.The food as well as service is exceptional. I had kerala paratha and chicken roast which were both superb.paratha's were so soft. vegetable biriyani was also amazing with lots of veggies and balanced flavor.Definitely will be returning back.

Authentic Kerala style sea food restaurant.. the best sea food we have had after coming to the UK. Loved the rasam soup, Fish fry (king fish), prawns(chemmeen varuthathu), crab masala, fish curry with boiled rice and the paratha. Kids had ordered a chicken starter and they too enjoyed it. One of the friends had ordered Mango Lassi and it was very yum. The prices were very nominal and the portions were adequate. We were a pax of 4 adults and 2 kids, and the total bill was within £80.

I ordered lamb Biryani for collection and then I took it home so I could eat and watch TV. I eat almost half of it and then found a thick white hair with a root hanging at the bottom of the hair. I then called...

I ordered a Kerala beef chilly which I found extremely disappointing. I expected it would be a traditional Kerala style beef chilly but it tasted more like chinese. The chicken biryani was good which was one of their best sellers but the beef chilly just wasn't good enough Review reply: Well for your kind information I just gave my honest review on the Kerala beef which remotely didn't taste like a Kerala dish. And please instead of questioning a customer's review work on improving your dish. You have already lost a customer thanks to your justification.

Shilpa is a good cosy Indian restaurant in Hammersmith although slight bit farther away from the station. Do not forget to try the authentic Kerala curries namely the mango coconut curry, bhindi masala, the laccha paratha. The portion sizes are quite good!

This place looks somewhat rough around the edges, but the menu is varied and the food lovely. Great service too. Came back in May 2023 - the place is unchanged; the food remains excellent.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Chiswick. Had an amazing , very close to authentic Kerala lunch here. Kerala paratha and beef ularthiyadhu were delicious and must try. I also tried Kappa Biryani , it was delicious but I personally felt like there was room for improvement. Fish curry and Kerala brown rice were very good as well. I already know that I will be a regular at this place. Great portion size. I want to try their appam and egg roast , chicken roast etc., next and few other dishes like mappas as well. This was a truly wonderful experience as this is the only authentic Kerala restaurant at least in West London. Highly recommended.

The food was ok and the restaurant didn’t smell bad (damp smell) like before. The food makes you feel full. We ordered the wrong pancake not the masala one which is huge (size of a very large plate) but they wouldn’t replace it. The waitress was slightly annoying - couldn’t hear me or understand me so had to repeat often. Loved the mango lassi drink 🍹
