We made a reservation to celebrate mother's day across three generations. We sent an email to pre-order a duck and asked for a high chair for a toddler and we would bring an infant. Two minutes later, we received a phone call to say the restaurant was full and we were no longer allowed to come. Surely the restaurant will maintain this false alibi, but as a test we asked friends to book the same-sized table online and also on the phone. Both tables were booked and on the phone the same exact person confirmed immediate availability. It is a real shame as the food is quite good. We have done Chinese New Year here and birthdays here before. However, the front of house staff do absolutely no justice to the chefs. In Chinese culture we have round tables because families eat together. This restaurant, however, discriminates against babies and young children, and to have done this on mother's day is an absolute disgrace. Shame on you.

Don’t know how this has 4 stars. Tasteless and greasy. Very expensive. £22.80 for prawns which we pay £10 for at home and our £10 ones are far better. Left with our stomachs turning from all the grease. Staff were friendly and did knock the prawns off the bill but we didn’t eat much of anything and resented the fact this meal had cost us £140. The rose was nice but that’s about it.

This restaurant has the most appalling customer service. We have eaten here in person and experienced very slow service. And now for the second time we have ordered takeaway via Deliveroo and they have failed to deliver. The delivery time is now 3 hours on the app. It is disgraceful. There is no compensation and not even an apology.

I went for lunch with friends today. the restaurant was so busy and waiting for the tables but seems not enough staff on the floor. however staff are brilliant. when we got the table and order, one of staff who is very fashionable, wearing smart hat is very friendly and helpful us to choose the menu. just impressed, such a nice customer service and we enjoyed our lunch more. I recommend this restaurant with also nice food!

My wife and I dropped in for a late lunch on a Sunday. On making our way through the entrance towards the restaurant we were approached and asked if we had made a booking by a waiter (who later identified himself as the manager) holding a tray of dirty glasses. We explained that we did not. We were told to stand by the door and wait whilst a table was cleaned. We were then told to stand closer to the door, past the deserted bar entrance,and the manager then started to wash glasses whilst ignoring us for a few minutes. My wife asked how long we would need to wait and was told with real disdain that it would be 5-7 minutes because we had not booked. We could see empty tables in the distant interior. I asked whether the manager had actually asked someone to clear a table and he said we would just have to wait as we had not made a booking. His demeanour was deliberately rude. My wife very calmly challenged him on this asking if he could not even make eye contact as he flapped his hand at us to tell us we could go if we did not like that and talking over her, saying, again, that we could go then. So we walked two minutes around the corner to Westfields and had a lovely lunch with excellent service at a restaurant there. If the man we spoke to really was the manager he has a lot to learn about basic manners and hospitality. We certainly would never want to set foot in this restaurant again and cannot recommend that anyone do so. Shocking rudeness.

Went there last night as a convenient choice because we stayed in the Dorsett Hotel. The decor of the restaurant is modern and traditional, not like those typical cheesy restaurants in the China town with the old fashioned decor for the sake of it. The service was fast, the peking duck was tasty, we also ordered black pepper lobster which was super, the crab meat tofu served in bread was also highly recommended. The egg yolk rice crackers are more of a snack than a dish. We also ordered stir fried morning glory. The potion of all dishes are generous, the two of us couldn’t finish all these. Overall, a very enjoyable and satisfying meal. 👍

We visited for dinner on a Saturday evening. The place was busy, but not full. It was assuring to see that many of the other diners were of Chinese origin. Our family of 4 ordered the salt and pepper prawns, a half roast duck, black pepper beef, sweet & sour chicken, morning glory, egg fried rice and some noodles. The food was decent throughout, and the signature roast duck was a highlight. Portion sizes were generous and we ended up packing some of the food to take home. Service was highly efficient. We asked for the food to be sent out as it was ready, and were surprised to receive our entire meal within 10 minutes! While this clearly meant a lot of food was pre-prepared (including the roast duck), this did not detract from our enjoyment of the meal. The bill for our sizeable dinner came to £220, of which £40 was spent on drinks. This did feel a bit pricey, but overall it was a solid meal. I live locally and would consider a repeat visit. NOTE: street parking nearby is for residents only between 6:30pm and 8pm, and available on pay by phone at all other times. We dined at 7pm so had to park at the W12 shopping mall which was a 10 min walk away.

Eten was droog en smaakloos. Prijs is totaal niet in verhouding met wat je krijgt. We waren met twee personen 180 euro kwijt voor menu B. Ze doen het overkomen dat ze een Michelin ster hebben, maar dit was in 2020. Echt totaal geen aanrader. Als we de helft zouden hebben betaald, was het eigenlijk al teveel.

2nd time I’ve eaten here whilst on business and it’s not any better. The barman/waiter is extremely rude. Food was nice enough. I got 15mins to eat it and then they turned the lights and air con off. They even asked me and another customer to pay whilst eating my food. Horrendous customer service. It’s a shame as they have lost my business and any corporate dinners I would have organised.

Oh dear. Our waitress, charming though she appeared to be, simply didn’t have enough command of English to understand or be understood. You know that feeling when you keep looking at each other across the table when a conversation with someone simply isn’t working. Eventually we got our order across, though with an instinct that something would go wrong. It did. In my book, Pinot Gris is served chilled, not room temperature, but apparently there is something wrong with the fridge. Even though the water is cold. We ask for a glass of ice to put in the wine, though it comes without a spoon to get it out. The starters are ok - apart from a long hair in the chiew yum squid which seems to be battered prawns - but the half duck is more than half dead and dried out, and the portions of plum sauce, slices of cucumber and spring onion are way too small, while the pancakes are near glued together and have to be peeled apart by careful insertion of finger nails. It’s an expensive menu and wine list and not worth it for the money. I’d recommend somewhere else.

We absolutely loved Shikumen. To be fair we were only there for a light meal before a concert at Shepherd's Bush O2 but it was exactly perfect Their crispy duck is surely amongst the best in London. Honestly worth a visit alone. Service was friendly and attentive. No pressure. The other tables had all sorts of different people. Couples, families, all sorts. Nice atmosphere. We haven't stopped talking about how good it was and can't wait for an excuse to go back. Thank you!

The worst part of eating at this restaurant is the service. The food itself is average to good depending on the dish, but the overall experience was underwhelming for £85 per head. You can get much better food and much better service for the same price all over London

Even though we have dined this way many times, Shikumen stands out as one of the best we have experienced.The restaurant occupies elegant quarters in the Dorsett Hotel in an unexpected quarter of northwest London, a few blocks from the enormous Wayfair mall. We showed up without a reservation a bit after noon on a Sunday and the restaurant was busy but far from full.Everything we had was exceptional. An order of squid with chili and garlic was delicious, though the chili was barely detectable. Dim sum here are unusually creative and attractive. The most memorable one we had was shrimp with chives in a siu mai shape and a green wrapper. This is a combination which could be bland, but was vibrant. We also had duck with pumpkin, in a taro casing shaped like a pumpkin (with parsley for the stalk). My wife found it a bit bland but I would term it "subtle." There are also a variety of soup dumplings listed on a separate page as specialties, and the one we had was excellent, though Western soup spoons are not fully up to the task of dealing with the soup.Dim sum here are served at the table, not on a cart, and pricier than elsewhere. This is consistent with the elegant hotel dining room. You are also given three small bowls of sauces -- vinegar and ginger, a traditional hot pepper, and a spicy catsup-like sauce which was new to us.Services is a bit odd. The captains were haughty to the point of bordering on hostile, and far from welcoming. Perhaps it was because we had not booked in advance. Servers do not come for your order until they are summoned, but were quite pleasant. Only the captains can create your bill, which is typical for dim sum places. Service was neither rapid not very slow. Only the behavior of the captains undercut the pleasure we had in an outstanding dining experience.

myself and two friends come to Shikumen on Saturday evening, we order dim sum and Peking duck , .they brought us the Peking duck but no duck sauce and veg,which we had to ask for. They very grumpy manager next brought lettuce wraps and 15 minutes later,after we'd eaten the wraps,brought the sauce to go with it.when we asked how come that was so late, he just shrugged and walked off. The chicken tasted so burnt its was inedible, they did kindly take this bill off our bill. After waiting for 30 minutes for dessert menu we gave up and asked for the bill. Ristorante con cucina cinese ottimo. C’erano anche diversi asiatici nel locale a cena. Abbiamo mangiato dim sum sia vegetariani che al pesce.. veramente ottimi. This was a convenient spot after the Bush Theatre. It’s in a hotel and feels like it- waiters laying up tables for breakfast as we ordered our dinner. Service authentically offhand Chinese. Food OK though gloopy and I suspect plenty of MSG. Better than the local competition but more authentic Cantonese food further east. Probably best if a table of 6 or 8 can share dishes Will only return if we go to the Bush Theatre.

A quite tuck away with excellent settings inside! Friendly and efficient staff who knew their Menu.The Peking Duck was supremely prepared and expertes cut and presented by the Chef at the table. However, wondered what happened to the rest of the Duck ! Very little came back after we were done! The main course was delicately prepared and each dish had a distinct aroma and taste that played with the taste buds ! Over all an excellent choice to pick a restaurant!

Excellente cuisine chinoise raffinée et aux saveurs sublimes. Dès les entrées on comprend que le repas ne sera pas ordinaire mais bien différents de ce que l'on a l'habitude de manger dans la plupart des établissements asiatiques. Nems de canard et toasts de crevettes au sésame pour commencer suivi d'un demi canard laqué découpé devant le client et accompagné de légumes et d'autres accompagnements nous aurons ravis les papilles. Service impeccable et aimable. Prix du vin un peu élevé comme toujours à Londres et 12% de taxes de service qui font envolé une addition déjà salée. 118 £ à 3.

Six of us had dinner here after a v good play at the Bush Theatre, which is one minute’s walk. The staff at Shikumen could not have been more welcoming and attentive, advising on menu choices - food and wine and serving it swiftly, but without rushing us.

I came to this restaurant yesterday to celebrate my 21st birthday. The food was delicious and a fairly reasonable price, but the service was absolutely awful! We had the set menu so we didn't mind waiting too long between courses, but the waiters never came over to ask if everything was okay. When we asked for the bill they mumbled "it's coming" and walked off. We barely got anything close to a smile and they ignored us as we left the restaurant. It's a big shame that the service let down the incredible food.

Having been a regular here since it opened, our last visit to Shikumen will definitely be our last. I say this with a heavy heart as it used to be my favourite place for food locally.

We went as a family group of four and enjoyed a fresh and vibrant meal with carefully prepared and presented food.

Although prices on the menu are on the high side compared to other nearby Chinese restaurants, it is worth the price and the services. The ambiance is really nice and staff is extremely attentive and willing to customise some dishes. Several times when we enjoyed the Chinese dim sum, we said waiters tried to cheer up crying toddlers, which i thought was genuinely sweet for the parents of the toddlers and the other customers ( away from the noises).

choose here as our preferred peking duck restaurant was closed for refurb. The peking duck was good and very reasonably priced. The salted prawn is below par. Truffle fried rice is a delight. The waitress serving us was inexperience. She didn't space out serving the dish so there were few dishes coming out whilst we were having our peking duck. She took them back to the kitchen and reserve them cold. One of them was softshell crab. We told her it was cold and she took it back and came back with the same. She also made a mistake with our salted egg prawn and gave us something else.

Another beautiful meal with faultless service. Served in a quiet but comfortable setting. We ordered a mix of dim sum and didn't have room for a main course. Generous portions and really good value for money! Highly recommended.

We ate battered prawn starter, kung PO chicken and tofu, it was ok but not above average and compared with the cost of a takeaway which it was on a par with it was way overpriced. Heavy batter, syrupy sauces, overall disappointing. Nice staff though and good service.

I love coming for dim sum at Shikumen. Our latest visit was a last minute decision but a very enjoyable one.

If you want to quality, authentic Cantonese, this is the place. Xiao Long Bao selection was top notch, as were the various of other appetisers. As it was our first time, we opted for the Peking Duck, done two ways. Probably the best in London.

We had another outstanding dinner at Shikumen. Duck with pancakes, sea bass, dim sum, squid, aubergine- all really goods. Attentive service. We have been here a number of times and we will return again soon.

Next to the Dorsett Hotel, Shikumen is a  Chinese food delight. The restaurant’s name means ‘stone gate’ a style of colonial architecture which blends the style of East and West and the interior and menu reflect this. The set menus are really good and can include a seafood theam or the more traditional dim sum, Peking duck and soup dumplings. Good food, good atmosphere and super service in a fab looking restaurant.

Came down to London with 3 colleagues who were staying in Shepherds Bush, we had a check on trip advisor and saw that the restaurants had great reviews so decided to give it a try. Once seated we were attended to quickly for our drinks order and food order, the dim sum and spring rolls which came out perfectly and were very nice indeed - after this point was where the issues started, the mains were then being delivered however they came out very far apart which meant we were having to wait before others meals had come (some had dietary requirements which meant we couldn't share, that part is of course no fault of the restaurant but you would expect mains to be brought out at a similar time) once the mains had arrived we ate and the food was nice again, one of the mains had been forgotten and we had to chase the waitress for this, whilst we had been waiting most of the food had been eaten and the other main still hadn't arrived so asked for then not to bring this out. Then we ordered the bill (they had removed the main that hadn't arrived which is expected) we were waiting half an hour for them to then take payment - the restaurant wasn't busy so very surprised that it took so long.

Absolutely superb lunch for family and friends! Faultless food and service. A step above, highly recommended.

It was a special occasion. I knew before hand that Shikumen is pricey, at least it is not the money that I have to spend normally for a dinner. But the occasion deserved the effort. We went for the set menu A (40 quid each person) and it really exceeded my expectations. I was hoping that the quality of the food was going to be good, but I was expecting small sizes as you typically get in this kind of sophisticated restaurants. It wasn't the case.

I prezzi sono da ristorante di fascia medio-alta, ma i ricarichi non sono affatto scorretti. Abbiamo preso, in tre, 3 degustazioni di dim-sum (fatti a mano, uno spettacolo per la vista e per il palato), 2 soft crabs e mezza anatra pechinese (unico appunto: pelle un po’ molle e non croccante). Con una bottiglia di vino di medio livello abbiamo speso in 3 circa 200 GBP ma strameritati, considerando che spesso al pub se ne spendono 30 a testa...

The pictures of the food look good online, but tastes awful. The sweet and sour chicken might as well be called sweet and sour batter! There was no chicken! All food was disgustingly cold as if it had been cooked hours ago. Our drinks came warm when we complained they bought us a bowl of ice? Customer service was dreadful. Save your money and eat elsewhere!

Bastante patético. Solía tener una buena reputación. Ahora lo perdí en mis ojos. Fui allí con un grupo de amigos. Personas realmente hostiles a su llegada. Mesa fría. Lino sucio - mancha de vino justo delante de mí. El camarero siguió presionando para pedir más, ya que "no tendríamos suficiente". Terminamos con demasiado para cualquiera de nosotros para comer. Luego empecé a presionar para que termináramos temprano, para que el personal pudiera irse. Terminé y el gerente vino a vernos a las 2300 (comenzamos a las 2100) para pedirnos que nos fuéramos agresivamente para poder ir a casa. Broma completa: esto es el centro de Londres, no una ciudad adormecida. Experiencia muy triste. Ya no pondrán un pie allí hasta que se resuelvan. Sólo puedo aconsejar a los propietarios para solucionar este problema.

Tuvimos una excelente comida aquí ya que estábamos alojados en el Hotel Dorsett en el mismo sitio. No estoy seguro de cuál es el enlace. Ambos tuvimos el cangrejo de caparazón blando con una ensalada de frutas fue fabuloso. Tuve un Aberdeen Angus principal ahumado con salsa de vino tinto que literalmente se derretía en mi boca. Esposa tenía pollo crujiente muy agradable compartimos un poco de arroz jazmín. También había una pareja muy buenos cócteles y una bonita botella de Gavi. En general, excelente comida y servicio de cinco estrellas.

The restaurant is located within the Dorsett.We had dinner there. Nice ambience. The service was perticularly good...attentive and prompt.My dish of Pork Belly was outstanding. Portions were adequate too. A little expensive, but worth the money!

Aparte del auténtico pato de Pekín que se sirve en el Jardín de Pekín en Hong Kong, recomendaría encarecidamente el que se sirve en Shikumen Sheperd´s Bush, que sería la versión más auténtica disponible en Londres. El pato está tallado frente al cliente, que es la forma correcta de servir. Hay dos tipos de envoltorios para acompañar: los típicos panqueques finos y los suculentos bollos al vapor. El resto del pato se sirve como una deliciosa sopa o en forma de carne picada con verduras y se come con hojas de lechuga crujientes. Absolutamente Devine! Los otros platos a la carta son tan buenos como la langosta frita con fideos en salsa de abulón o la langosta salteada en salsa picante. Es una visita obligada para los amantes de la cocina oriental gourmet. Bon - app tit!

Ristorante cinese all’interno del Dorsett, quindi con ingresso e presentazione già abbastanza scenografici. Shikumen non delude le aspettative, anzi: tutti i piatti sono ben presentati (la varietà è enorme, impossibile elencarli tutti) e ben cucinati con menzione di onore per i dimsum ai frutti di mare, buonissimi. Caro ma non carissimo e con la possibilità di menù guidati molto completi. Vini con ricarichi folli, come spesso accade, quindi consiglio una buona birra giapponese. Servizio piuttosto attento.

Ate here on a Saturday evening to celebrate my wife's birthday as we were staying at the Dorsett Hotell which inter connects with this retardant but it is managed separately. You can get 15% off the al a carte menu if you are staying at the hotel.

Located inside the DORSET HOTEL , THIS RESTAURANT SERVES HIGH QUALITY FOOD. The dim sum is interesting and delicious. The fried rice excellent, the aubergine with chicken fantastic. The food here will never disappoint. The service is prompt and professional. A great menu to choose from.

We have been here a number of times and we have always eaten well. The crispy duck or Peking Duck is always very good and the dumplings are really excellent. The dumplings alone are a reason to visit.

Visited on the 25th August for a surprise birthday dinner with a big group of 20+ persons. Shikumen is defiantly a 5* restaurant from the hospitality to the decor. I would recommend the Crispy King Prawns,Stir fried Squid, Seafood Dim Sum, Roasted Spare Ribs( very sweet) & Crispy Duck from the starter section. From the main menu I would recommend Spicy Kung Po Diced Chicken(if you allergic to nuts do not order that dish),& Steamed whole Sea Bass with ginger. If you want to save money the set menu options will be your best choice. Portions are more than enough for two people and you will also have a good variety of food.

We tried to go to the Ealing location first, but as they had failed to update the opening hours on Google, they were closed when we went.

We were one of two groups in the restaurant during a weekday. Went for lunch as we had a craving for yumcha. Competent food but an absolute let down by front of house. Service personnel were more interested in their conversations than making sure their customers are having a good experience.

Went here on a Sunday for dim sum, and ordered pork buns, custard buns, chicken feet, congee and other dishes too. Lovely Jasmine tea, and I would especially recommend the pumpkin and duck dish - absolutely delicious.

Hemos tenido buenas experiencias comiendo como una pareja cuando ordene el £30 menú fijo. Sin embargo, estábamos muy decepcionados cuando un grupo, cuatro personas, no los tamaños de porciones de la misma. Como esto ha ocurrido dos veces, sólo podemos suponer que es una política para reducir los costos. restaurante Una política estúpida y cortos de miras, en mi opinión, dado el relativamente bajo costo de las materias primas. La política de traición no es notado cuando la comida es poner sobre la mesa, sólo cuando empieza a correr y la gente todavía sentir poca hambre.

My husband and I have been to Shikumen several times now - it’s our favourite local! We love the dim sum especially, and they do a fantastic turnip cake and pork congee. I’ve tried replicating these at home but I can’t seem to work out their secret recipes!! They also have taro croquettes on the menu which you don’t usually see. The service is quiet and friendly, always very good. If only it were a little bit cheaper we would go more often. I’m keeping an eye out for the next special offer...

This is the pricier end of Dim Sum and while many of the dishes will definitely impress, some of the basic ones are a let down (eg Har Gau, Prawn Cheung Fun - see pics).

We got one roasted duck for free on Sunday night as they have some special discount right now until 05/25. We have 7 people but still quite full after ordering some other dishes, as along as with two roasted ducks. They tasted very good and we each paid £20 around. :)
