I went with a friend to this restaurant. It was mainly to see one of the musicians whom my friend knew. This was a new musical experience and instrument for me and I really enjoyed it. We ordered food. My friend's order came, but mine was incorrect and went back. I told my friend to start eating as his meal would get cold. He finished his meal and mine had still not arrived. An hour went by. When my meal eventually arrived I had lost all of my appetite. The food was mediocre at best

A very big, very empty place which I was expecting to be rammed according to the 'reviews' I'd read beforehand. Anyway, we shocked the waiter by coming in :-) Service was very good. Really nice friendly guy who helped with the food and drinks choices. Hence the 2 stars. There were 2 big screens with football on which was a bit surreal in a large empty restaurant, still we were there for the experience. Food was ok, though I suspect the sauce was from a long life bottle. Not as good as something I'd cook for myself at home. Though edible. I liked my un-filtered light beer. The big surprise was being asked to leave at 9pm. We'd only got there at 7.30pm! They must have decided to close up early, but maybe could've waited for me to finish my drink? I'd say go there for a surreal experience!

Food - Mamos kotletas- okay - Cepelinai- made out of potato flour, not fresh potatoes Music - Terrible live Russian music - It was so loud that we couldn’t focus on food. We asked to put it down a few times - We were asked to pay £4 each for the music after being seated. It was super weird The Manager - Customer service does not exist. The manager (bearded guy) got so angry and unprofessional when we refused to pay for the music. Might be the reason why the restaurant was empty on a Friday night.

Hi all, It's a huge disappointment!!! On Saturday, 5th March 2022 we had a table booked at this restaurant. Therefore it was my best friend's birthday party, so we thought that we will have a nice evening. At arrival we've been asked to scan ID's or Bank card. They have some sort of scanning machine at the entrance. I've asked on what purpose you asking this? Security guard said that this is required to monitor people numbers at the restaurant. So, I've refused to show my ID or bank account to him. He then said, in this case you won't be allowed to dine in. I proposed an alternative - NHS Covid pass. He replied that this document doesn't have a photograph and we can let you in. So then I've confronted him by saying that Bank account card also don't have a photograph... He got angry and a little bit lost to what he should replay. After 10-15 mins of heated conversation we've decided not to dine at all and we've selected another place in Stratford. This was my first time at this restaurant and I also the last one. Will not recommend to anyone this place. The atmosphere is also very unpleasant!!!

Popped in for a couple of pints after picking up some shopping. Was asked if I wanted a table just for myself so informed the lady that I would sit at the bar as I only wanted a drink, only to be told "you can't sit at the bar". I wasn't aware there were any covid restrictions preventing me doing so or couldn't see why there were 8 or more stools at the bar waiting to be perched on! Even more interesting was the hypocrisy given the following as I assume the above was because of covid? Moving on, I sat at a table after which I was presented with a menu, I'd already stated I just wanted a beer. Was then told it was CASH ONLY! That was my que to leave. I mean who carries cash around these days. I can accept it in a Chinese take away but this is the only pub/restaurant I know that doesn't take card. So no sitting at the bar because, I assume, of covid but no cards accepted which basically says who cares about covid! At least there's other places to get a beer nearby that wanted my money so won't be going in the Shepherds Inn again. Pete

I wanted to try Lithuanian food and one of my Lithuanian friends recommended me this place. So me and my Lithuanian girlfriend went in there for dinner on the 31st of August. As soon as we entered the place we didn’t know wether somebody will come to take us to the table or wether we need to go to the table ourselves as nobody acknowledged us entering the place. As soon as we went to the table we ordered drinks. By accident I knocked out my girlfriends glass with beer. Accidents happen... the waitress came to clean the table etc and sat us to the next table. She was very polite about this situation. As soon as our food arrived, another waitress came and asked wether it was us who knocked the glass, saying that we need to pay £10 for the broken glass and that it needs to be paid in cash. This definitely seemed dodgy to us. Furthermore, the food was quite cold, not tasty, definitely didn’t taste fresh. Next day we both had a stomachache, that just proves that the food wasn’t fresh. The service was quite bad, every time we wanted to order drinks, we had to go to the bar because none of the waiting staff would come to the tables. Even after ordering drinks, it would take around 15mins for the drinks to come even though the restaurant had only 3 tables. Definitely it was not a good experience there, it was my first and the last time I go to this place.

The restaurant is located outside of the central. The place is very cozy and authentic. Staff is not really friendly and not talkative. Food is amazing. I went for the cold beetroot soup. It was very delicious. The soup is creamy and they serve it with some sour cream and hot roasted potatoes on the side. For my main course I chose a mashed potato with chicken served in a very authentic pot. The preparation time of this dish takes at least one hour. Desserts are phenomenal. The bread ice cream was very good, I think the best one of the three desserts we've tasted. Apple pie dough was very soft and a lot of apple filling inside. The Napoleon torte was excellent. It has a lot of layers. Very creamy. The portion of the dishes are decent.

Realmente malo, surrealista. No regresaremos de nuevo. Iría a Lituania en Beckton. Visited with my girlfriend, who is Lithuanian, and friends. I've been to Vilnius before and enjoyed the food, so this seemed a great opportunity to reacquaint myself! Although from the outside this resembles a backstreet East End pub, inside it's very Eastern European in terms of decor - bench seats, wood panelling, random pictures on the wall etc. There was also a screen showing a montage of footage from Lithuania in the 90s/early 00s! The place was quiet on a Tuesday evening, but everyone else in there was Lithuanian, and the authenticity continued to the picture menu, which had an extensive range of Lithuanian dishes. We went for the deep-friend cheese bread to start, which is pretty unhealthy but an excellent accompaniment to the Lithuanian beers! For the main I went for a pork and duck hunters stew, which was really delicious and comforting, and came wit hsome potato wedges and gherkins on the side. My companions had the 'farmer's feast', which was an absolutely gigantic combination of many typical Lithuanian dishes - including cepeniani, potato sausages and a whole lot of meat and dips! For dessert we went for traditional desserts of honey cake and 'Napoleon' cake. Overall, a very enjoyable evening, and the food is good value for the portion size. Would certainly recommend to anyone who enjoys hearty, filling dishes and would come here again! In terms of improvements, perhaps a bigger range of beers would be good, as there was only one Lithuanian one on draft - who goes to a place like this to order a Corona?!

Having experinced one other (exceedingly poor), Lithuanian restaurant in London & just returned from Lithuania I was a little disappointed with, what felt like, disinterested service. We had booked a table but on arrival were offered the choice of two rather small & poorly located tables that would have been better suited to drinking coffee in a garden! We asked for a bigger table but were told they were all booked. As we arrived at 6pm we asked what time the other tables were booked for? Eventually we were told 7.30 & 8pm! At last we were seated at a nice table and waited & waited for the waitress. We did get served and the meal was quite good infact much better than the dismisssive attitude of the waitresses would have suggested. The two doorman...standing constantly inside the restaraunt were very intimadating and made me feel, as a non Lithuanian, very uncomfortable. All in all the meal was good. If the service gets out of the Soviet era of 'we're doing you a favour by being here', then I would certainly go again.

Brought my girlfriend from Kaunas to make her taste some of her country's food. She agreed with me that everything we had was freshly made and very authentic. Me being a veggie Italian I was surprised by the many vegetarian options. Many salads with different garnishes and a few main courses that were very tasty and filling.Had a real Lithuanian sparkling wine and beers, but they also have a vast mediterranean wines selection and also popular typical pub beers on tap. Inside obviously looks like an old english pub but is all filled with village-style Lithuanian furnitures. I am told is been open since 2012 and I can tell that is very well preserved and every detail is cured to almost perfection, even waitresses wear traditional dresses. Definetly will be back as soon as possible. Loved every bit of my visit.

I was refused entry, possibly on discriminatory grounds. Tried to visit on Saturday 16 Jan 2016, I'm a respectable local resident who has been living in the area for over 40 years, far longer then the present owners of the Shepherd's Inn. It was early, before 7pm, the restaurant was totally empty and yet I was refused entry by the door man on the grounds that I needed a booking. I walked by again around an hour later, still empty tables and a few people waiting in a queue outside which rather suggests that even if it was fully booked, people were allowed to join a waiting list. I can't help but conclude that I was possibly discriminated against, on what grounds I do not know? ethnicity? age? looks? dress? Perhaps the owners of the Shepherd's Inn would like to learn the laws of the country and pass this on to their staff. I'm shocked to feel that I may have been discriminated against in the neighbourhood in which I have lived nearly all my life. I am considering raising this with my local councillor.

Just an hour ago I had a dinner in this place with my family and first of all was shocked of really bad service. In general waitresses looked with stones' faces. Smiles were very poor. Moreover, Is it normal to forget drinks order twice at the start of serving and to mix the food order on the top of that for the same table? I can understand this while is busy environment, but it is not acceptible when is not busy and here wasn't any rush. Staff definitely must be trained more. Please teach them that You can't assume change as a tips as well! Only costumer could dicide how much tips to leave. The server just took the money for a bill and didn't come back. It was rude! Improvements Would be good to start with smiling more because it doesn't cost a penny. It wasn't created relaxing atmosphere. We were not impresses with the food. It was average lithuanian cuisine variation, but selections were various. Interior had nothing special, (kind of lithuanian traditional) but quite spacious. Which is good. You have a chance to have your own space on a table. Tables weren't squeezed. It is Needed to pay more attention to toilets' area. So it is sad, but you must work on choosing or training staff more carefully. The place has a good potential, but managment needs to keep an eye on service quality because lots of misunderstandings you can solve out with no problems with benevolently staff. Maybe would like to come back later, but only to see is it any improvement.

The food was mediocre. Kepta duona (deep fried bread) never arrived as the waiter forgot the order, and we only realised this when the mains came out. We had herring with potatoes and sauerkraut soup for the starters. Potatoes had the crust you get when you microwave them. The soup was fine. For the main we ordered the big farmer's platter which included a cepelinas, potato pancakes, vedarai, pork shank, sausage and sauteed sauerkraut. The platter was ok, but again, some of the food was microwaved. The service was awful. When we entered the restaurant, we were't sure whether we should seat ourselves like you do in Lithuania or wait to be seated as is the custom in the UK. In any case, as we stood hesitantly in the doorway, three staff sitting at the bar, including a cook wearing a blue plastic apron, gave us a less than welcoming stare and carried on talking among themselves. When we finally got the attention of the waitress and ordered, we were told that the only payment method accepted was cash. The mains came out before we had the chance to finish the starters. The staff never cleared our table and seemed to be more interested in folding napkins or shining glasses at the bar than keeping an eye on the customers at the tables. I had to go to the bar to ask for the bill, and then once again, 5 minutes later, I had to take the payment back to the bar. You'd be more forgiving if staff were busy running around the floor, but that was not the case! Finally, the atmosphere. The interior was what you may expect to see in one of those traditional restaurants in Lithuania, except it does feel a little run down. Toilets need some major renovation to make them look less like a toilet you may find hiking in one of the UK's national parks. Stereotypically Eastern European music can drive you mad, but then again, perhaps that's what most of the clientele is looking for. Staff look disinterested at best, arrogant at worst. The security looked quite unprofessional, sitting on a stool indoors, chatting to the waiting staff. This was my first Lithuanian restaurant in the UK and the impressions aren't that great. It's definitely below the standard of similar type restaurants in the UK and probably even those in Lithuania. It will be interesting to see what the other three Lithuanian restaurants in London are like.

Drinks served in chipped glasses, water been served in a dirty jug, waiter who brought the food just dropped it on the table- no enjoy no nothing...We've been coming here twice or at least once a month and that never happened before. I think that people like him shouldn't work in a restaurant, or he need to be trained by people who knows this job! It's just embarrassing

Visited with friends on Saturday night; food was average; interior is ok, apart from the toilets; they accept cash only - which is annoying, as we don't carry any cash around, so have had to go to the local ATM and then make sure you do not over order and have enough to pay your bill, also this brings a question if the owners of the place paying correct taxes?

Overall rating is 4+ Food was amazingly good (I had a fish with creamy sauce and salads). They do serve my favourite Georgian wine - Alazani Valley and other types. Waiter was really speedy. Minuses: its a nice cozy restaurant, but they have to work a bit more on interrior, cause you can still feel that it was oldy smelly pub before (especially toilets). They dont accept cards, only cash, so you have to run to the closest petrol station to get some cash (ATM will charge you 1.75) so be ready :) I would recommend this restaurant for those who wants simply to have a good descent dinner with your friends or family.

Traditional lithuanian food. Environment is not very good, based in old pub. Waiters are quick but arogant sometimes. Very nice food. Live music on weekends. Quit expensive

Cepelinai (the traditional Lithuanian potato dumplings with meat) are really good. This is typically the benchmark of how good a traditional Lithuanian restaurant/inn should be. It certainly deserves a passing mark for it. It's a good place to try Lithuanian food in London for those who are curious and haven't been to Lithuania.

Have been here a number of times with my Lithuanian girlfriend - when they first opened they were easily as good as, if not better than the restaurants back in LT (I have been to a few of those too), but based on recent visits I feel their standards have slipped. The cepelinai do not taste fresh, the duona su suriu seem too hard (stale bread?). Not good value for money any more, which is a real shame as there aren't many other Lithuanian places in London (any?)

waiters wear authentic vintage clothing, it gives this place old times charm. waiters could be hit and miss though. some are slow and might "abandon" your table. others are wonderful. start with garlic bread. its authentic beer snack in every household. move on to beet soup. substitute for cabbage soup if you are hangover-best cure money can buy. all potato dishes are worth a try. and black bread desert is so good, it should be illegal. saturday nights they have live music until 11pm. loud and annoying, but its just my thing.overall-authentic experiance

Cheap cuts of meat ! Staff not overly friendly and when it's busy you can see the pressure on the staff and they become not so friendly sadly !!

Visited this restaurant on Saturday with friends, it was a large group and from the moment we arrived the service was simply brilliant; tables where rearranged to accommodate us, The table service was frequent but not over bearing. No issues with the food from any of that party, some had lamb some had chicken some had fish everything was perfect can't fault it. I had the bait fish for a starter and it was absolutely gorgeous my partner had the calamari and that too was soft and beautiful. Then after dinner and moments to chill the real fun started they had an authentic belly dancer who was absolutely beautiful and she did some crazy dancing with a sword and it was just entertaining the whole place got excited and loved it.

We went for a midweek dinner (didn't stay in the hotel as we live locally). Its probably 15 years since I last visited the Hitchcock, and it wasn't very busy. The menu is short but the food was both very good and good value (recommend the chicken schnitzel in particular). The usual range of drinks were at the bar, and we stuck to beer. The service was very good, and the restaurant manager, Josh, has a good way of building rapport with customers
