Fantastic country pub with welcoming atmosphere. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Great menu, burgers and grills a speciality. Also several vegetarian options. We visited as a large party and were looked after brilliantly. Well worth a visit.

8 of us stopped for a mea Saturday night. Great service and the food was fab. We all had something different. The kitchen handled this so well. From chilli amd curry to a steak pie and steak. All cooked great! We will visit again x

We went to a Christmas party last night and had a wonderful time, plenty of food, nicely cooked with a wonderful atmosphere.

Friendly staff, good food and good value!

Yesterday, myself and my family had Sunday lunch here and it was so nice to sit down to a proper home cooked meal just like you'd make at home. The food was superb and there was also Lots of it. Believe me you need to be hungry when you go here for food and when you leave, you'll feel like you've been spoiled and had a quality meal which is such good value for money. We had starters which were beautiful and when the mail meals came they were of the same standard. Vegetables in abundance (8 in total) which you never see and lashings of delicious hot gravy; then on to puddings which were to the same standard. We will definitely be back for more soon.

Went here to celebrate a special occasion and they couldn't have done enough for us. Food and service was excellent, so pleased and made it very special for us, thank you!

I don’t normally write reviews but I had to for this place.. from the moment we arrived we were greeted and welcomed in by a lovely and friendly lady.. she even gave us some bar mats for our home bar (thanks so much again!) It’s a lush welsh pub, the food was beautiful (gotta love pub grub) and the service was fab! They also have a huge beer garden with lovely views of the mountains! Highly Recommend!! 🌟 Xxx

Called in here for dinner after a long drive and a quick bike ride. Very friendly welcome by the staff and the food was great

Had sunday lunch here today it was absolutely delicious.. beautiful. Also the sweet was homemade and was stunning. The service was second to none due to Carrie. Had a fantastic day really enjoyed the atmosphere to.. a big thanks to the cook and the kitchen staff all amazing

Great place to end up after a 2 hour walk around the Felindre reservoir.

First visit and we all had a great time. Food variety was plentiful. Great selection of drinks. Excellent service. I would recommend this place .

I have been here a couple of times over the years and have enjoyed the meals both times with friendly service and decent portions.

Very nice atmosphere but a bit dark - needs more light. A bit old fashioned but very pleasant bar person - Welsh speaking.

We visited with our family at the beginning of June. We've been here several times and this place never disappoints. The quality of the food is always fresh, home cooked (chips!) and very tasty. The service is always relaxed and friendly which puts you at ease. The dining room is modern, clean and a pleasure to eat in. It's a little awkward village to get to but it's a hidden gem that's worth the trip. Highly recommend to all.

The quality of food and service for our Sunday lunch was first class.Staff were professional and helpful.We both choose the beef which was cooked perfectly and this was served with two serving dishes full of fresh vegetables as well as a dish of leeks au gratin.We had prawn cocktail for starters.When we had the bill we could not believe how reasonably priced it was.Approx £12.50 for two courses per person(don’t know the exact amount).We highly recommend this restaurant.

Quite big pub in tiny village. Two rooms and usual facilities. We were there for a private function so can't judge food. Decent range of beers at standard prices. If you are walking or visiting in the area, this is a good place.

As we usually go out for a Sunday carvery, our usual restaurant/pub was fully booked so we looked for somewhere fairly local and The Shepherds popped up with some lovely reviews. The pub itself is very nice and clean with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. However, we were disappointed when served the meals. The meat was already plated with a small amount of very watery gravy, one roast potato and a small piece or roast parsnip, the vegetables came in separate small dishes to share and one gravy boat. Nowhere near enough for 4 meals, one being a childs meal, we had to ask for more mashed potato and another jug of gravy. Then we noticed another table with 2 diners had the same amount of veg as us, a group of 4.!! We were disappointed with the Sunday lunch, however, we may return one day for a midweek meal as the menu did looked very nice.

Meal was exceptional...ordered the lamb shank at 6.15 n had served by half past service was fantastic 2 and she was quite new if ever here in the future would definitely come again :)

Upon a recommendation from my cousin, we visited here and were very impressed by the food quality and also portion size as well.

Lovely country pub , very friendly staff and great variety of meals

We wanted to give ourselves a treat as we had a stressful day. We have read previous reviews as we had never visited before. Far exceeded our expectations, we were geeeted with a friendly smile and welcome and offered to take our drinks from the bar. We were shown to our lovely table by the window. We looked at the menu and there was a specials board to choose from. Wonderful choice especially the vegetarian options. The spiced pumpkin soup was a delight beautifully spiced and the largest prawn cocktail I have seen in my life. We chose the vegetable masala and the chicken in a brandy sauce for our mains. We were asked what kind of potatoes and I was offered home made chips and mash (different take on half and half). The tastiest meal I have had in a very long time, I couldn’t finish mine so was offered a doggy bag. We were too full to sample the desserts so opted for fruit tea. We had our teas and were surprised to have homemade shortbread biscuits to accompany the tea. We will definitely be returning soon hopefully to try the Sunday lunch.Thank you all for a wonderful evening the service and friendliness shown to us was exceptional.

We were delighted to be the first guests to take their dog to the Shepherds as they have just allowed them to accompany you there . We were welcomed and had a lovely meal of a a beef stew with sloe gin/ delicious on a wet and windy night . Wide selection on the menu and reasonably priced . There aren’t many local options for dining with your dog so this was a great find 🐶

Brilliant food, service and real ale, a bit hit and miss with food availability throughout the week, but we'll worth a visit!

We had an afternoon tea that we won in a competition. Great selection of sandwiches, other savoury foods, scones, Welsh cakes and cakes. Really friendly staff in a lovely country pub in Felindre near to Swansea. Highly recommended.

Very nice Sunday lunch. Been here several times over the years and never been disappointed.

Looking for somewhere different to take the dog (and us) for a walk, we decided on Lliw reservoir and searched for somewhere local to have lunch. You'll have to trust your sat nav to find this unassuming pub as it's tucked out of the way (we took two wrong turns). The inside of the pub doesn't match the somewhat austere outside, there is a large car park and a patio area outside for dog families and smokers. The pub was empty except for us so we had the full attention of the staff, all of whom were friendly and engaging. The menu was varied and I struggled to make a selection, finally opting for the belly pork with my wife choosing the chicken, gammon & leek pie. All meals have a choice potato and veg and all of it was delicious.Sitting outside, in the sun, with a (non alcoholic) beer and a full belly is a satisfying way to spend a hour or two. The next time we go walking in the area, this will be our lunch place to end up at. Next time it will be one of the curries!

Well worth a visit not just for the food

We visited yesterday with friends for the second time. Fabulous welcome from the owner and staff. Food excellent large portions well cooked and well served by the staff. Barman was great as were the waitresses. Cant wait to go back. Many thanks Paul.D.

Website states dog friendly, sadly the pub is not aware. Walked in innocently to be greeted by abrupt person saying no dogs in here. Which was kindly repeated before we had the chance to turn and leave. Unable to comment on food but would imagine it is served cold like the atmosphere.

We had an exceptional meal there on Friday with the family. Great service and a really good real ale. Clean and comfortable restaurant. Top stuff

read a few reviews. wondered what the place was like. lost a little took time to find the place. when we arrived met at the door by barman looked inside empty. did we make the right choice. we were shown into the restaurant picked our seat offered drinks.discussed options for meal excellent choice with plenty of options. we all chose different meals all served with excellent service all meals were great and very good value. never been before but now on our regular visit 10 out of 10 staff and food was excellent and very good value

My partner and i visited the shepherds inn for the first time tonight and it defiantly won't be the last. The food is amazing, and the customer service of the female owner was very friendly. Thankyou.

We usually love this place but after visiting today, it is safe to say that it has gone downhill fast. The service was terrible, with the staff edging on borderline rudeness. We won't be visiting again. Shame.

Visited today with my 95 year old dad who knew this place when he was young He was thrilled to revisit and to speak in his native tounge, Welsh. The staff were extremely nice and we were made to feel very welcome . Very good reasonably priced menu with plenty of choice. As we are both very small eaters we went for a starter only, I had the delicious homemade vegetable soup and dad has the garlic mushrooms which he thoroughly enjoyed

Visited the pub for food on Saturday and it was my first visit. There were 7 of us and we had food. The service was great the lady behind the bar couldnt do enough and the food was fabulous. We will be back for another visit.

I love this little gem and luckily it is not far for me to go to enjoy it. Always a friendly welcome, beautiful setting and Sunday lunch for a large party never disappoints. The food was plentiful, cooked perfectly and very tasty. The staff are very efficient as they had several large parties at the same time, but we did not wait long and all of our parties food came together. No waste and believe me with their portions that is some doing. Perfect.

Chose Shepherds for this years Fathers day lunch as we wanted to try somewhere different. We weren't disappointed as the setting was beautiful, the staff were friendly and the food was plentiful. The food itself (Sunday Lunch) was OK but didn't wow. Small things like an under cooked parsnip and a roast potato with rock hard skin let it down. Our party of 5 all enjoyed the visit and I'll be more than happy to visit again but I doubt I'd have the cooked dinner again as there are so many other places that do it that little bit better. Price wise it was about the average for this type of meal. 3 of us finished off with an Irish coffee which was particularly nice. Hopefully an evening meal off the menu will have that little bit of extra care to warrant a better review.
