Good coffee, nice people, excellent sandwiches, spotlessly clean including the toilet, a comfortable place, handy location close to the heart of the old town. Very happy with our choice.

We were wondering round Old Aberdeen and stumbled across Shelter and were so glad we did, delicious hot chocolate and excellent coffee but the cakes were the stars of the show! Chocolate brownie and orange cake were sone of the best we’ve ever tasted!

We (my now 3yo son and I) came across Shelter Cafe by chance during the summer after a trip to the botanic gardens. We normally visit on a Saturday or Sunday. We like to sit in and get a table upstairs and so far have been lucky considering it’s small and there are all but a few tables, there are plenty outside on the cobbles though so if you are toddlerless then this is a good option too. So far I have tried an American, iced latte, chai latte and flat white - all with oat milk. The caber coffee is excellent and each drink tastes really good. On one occasion we brought family and all shared homebakes / cakes which were to a high standard. My son often gets a free lollipop from the staff and this makes his trip! Thank you! I’d love to try the Turkish breakfast one morning, hopefully we’ll get round to it. A wee hidden small gem.

Slightly mystified by the good reviews. Our coffee was watery, the service rather sullen, the menu a bit odd, and the breakfast comes with a mean amount of avocado and two triangles of sliced white bread. The cafe has quite a modern design, undermined slightly by the fact that no-one can be bothered to sweep away the dozens of dead bees on the upper window ledge.

We sat outside at a table on the cobbles. I enjoyed my large bowl of falafel and hummus salad while enjoying a view of part of the Old Town. The cakes looked great - will try one next time !

I must say I’m surprised at the negative review, as I go to Shelter at least 3-4 times a week and have never experienced such problems. It’s a small cafe, which means when it gets very busy seating upstairs may not be available, but aside from this (which is simply a result of its popularity!) it is a lovely little place, with a good variety of tasty food & drinks, friendly & helpful staff, and additionally nice views, of the Old Town House in particular, and lots of light, thanks to the huge windows and skylights. And it is the only cafe on the Old Aberdeen High Street to be open on Sundays! Excellent :) :) :)

I have been coming there for a few months now. Food is always good (although sometimes it takes a while) and coffee is cheaper here than in most places on the Aberdeen uni campus.

What a wonderful small cafe,in historic Old Aberdeen, this building has been designed with care and love, the staff a very friendly and helpful. You can sit upstairs or downstairs beside the window, what a lovely relaxing cafe wich is tastefully designed inside very freshly laidout.Myself and two friends decided to pop in and have some lunch we went for the chicken soup and a Panini, what wonderful tasty soup served in a large bowl. The cafe serves other sandwiches and toasted wraps, with a good selection of patisserie cakes and slices on offer. On the menu is a Gluten free and Vegetarian selection of food, along with hot savouries, and they do organic coffee, the cafe prices are very reasonable along with other selection of teas and coffees on offer. This cafe can be found at the far end of the High Street,Old Aberdeen, you are right in the heart of the University of Old Aberdeen,so much to see and do,you have St Machar Catherdal and Cruickshank Botanic Gardens along with Seaton Park, which is within short walking distance from the cafe. How great for visitors and friends to have a coffee and a nibble to eat while exploring this beautiful Old part of Aberdeen,no better place for a walk. You can view the menu along with instructions on how to contact and find the Shelter Cafe,on there website.Shelter Cafe,112 High Street,Old Aberdeen,Aberdeen 01224 485832.I would strongly recommend a visit, you will not be disappointed, you will receive a warm welcome, excellent menu choice.A great selection of teas and coffees on offer,we had no problem in parking the car,or you can take the bus,the bus stop in near the cafe.

Good place to drop into if taking the sights of Old Aberdeen. Good coffee wide range of cakes, also sandwiches and food for lunch Helpful staff brought a table down to the front of the cafe for my elderly mother who couldn't manage the stairs to the upper level. Good value too.

Was passing needed coffee and a sandwich. Very clean modern looking inside limited seating downstairs but few more seats upstairs. Selection paninis, pastries and cakes washed down with a fresh coffee and tea. We had a error in our order where cheese not mentioned on ingredients but error rectified quickly and with a smile Visit if passing and we will not hesitate to return

Today myself and my husband were in to have a spot of lunch to which turned out to be no lunch and still £11 down. We had ordered panninis and when i recieved them i complained as the fillings inside were still freezing altho outside toasted,i asked for it to be put back down instead he went downstairs and out in micro which turned a toasted panini into a soggy one, i asked for my money back which intitiled to but i was refused and no apoligy given.

Not only the place has been redone beautifully but the coffee was much better than I had anticipated. Really good cappuccino, even if it was soy. Also the staff was incredibly kind.

Pricey, but great food. The chicken supreme was pretty good, good portion size too. The starter bread was small but the butter was good. Good cocktails and attentive staff.

After being awake from 2am, catching a taxi at 3 am and flying from Malaga at 5am, we arrived in Aberdeen Airport at 8.30am. We had no chance to grab anything to eat as time was limited for a rail connection in mid-morning. We were delighted to discover Cafe 31 which is to be found adjacent to the Railway Station and its location gave us time to grab a quick breakfast. This is a nice wee cafe with all the usual breakfast and light lunch options. Prices were reasonable, and service was quick and friendly. A very enjoyable breakfast

Fue a comer debido a la variedad de opciones de GF. Pedido a las 12. 02 y solo platos de almuerzo disponibles después de las 12 con opción de ensalada solo GF. Muy decepcionado con el cambio de menú.
