Shelly Farm Fryer in Solihull

9 of us went for a 40th birthday meal but unfortunately most of the food was poor. All of the pizzas were terrible, they were difficult to cut even with a pizza cutter. They asked if we wanted the leftovers put in a box to take away but in my opinion the only place to put them was the bin! I had fish and chips which should not be hard to get right but there was under cooked batter and I actually felt quite unwell for most of the night and the next day. At nearly £18 for this dish I would expect it to be perfect. I live on the east coast and we can get 2 good portions of fresh fish and chips for less than the price of this dish. My wife's dish was a chicken dish but it was tasteless. Fortunately I was not paying the bill because if I was I would have been speaking to the manager first. Would I recommend this place, NO. Would I go back, NO. You get one chance to impress customers and they failed miserably!

Been here a number of times and seen the rudeness of the lady owner to other customers. Today I received the extremely unnecessary rude service from her today and can only say that it was uncalled for and I will not be returning. I do not recommend this place to anyone unless you like to be treated in this way.

Good size portions of gluten-free fish and chips. Available on Wednesday. Nice pot of kushy peas. Fast friendly service.

Yesterday evening, I had the finest fish and chips I have had in ages. We were fortunate that it was busy so nothing had sat around but they cooked the fish until it was all crisp. Often when its busy, fish and chips are taken out too early but there was no soggy batter on the paper (which I really dislike). We. Done Shelley Farm.

I’ve used this chip shop for many years. Great food. Good prices. Very friendly staff especially Lulu. Lovely lady. Keep up the good work.

I have been going to this chip shop over the past 15 years but this last visit will be my last...service was terrible, had placed the order online for pick up but it had not been done...was told they were really busy but no-one was in the shop, overall it took an hour to get my order with 5 peolle being served before me that had arrived after me...really disappointed as service has been good in the past.

Have visited this chippy many times, and I can understand what previous review is talking about this chippy is 95 percent good there has been occasional flop but it's better than most chippies in Solihull I had fish and chips tonight and I would give it 100 percent it was delicious fish and chips like everything else is more expensive the if enyone can find a better one in Solihull let know.

OK, so I have visited the chippy many times and the food is beautiful....tonight at 930 I visited with my friend and our children. We ordered chicken kebab chips, curry and chips and a sausage. Hostile service would be a compliment. I am so disappointed that the lady was so uninviting but when asked they'd had a long day. If you can't be polite close the door. The food was rushed and not to their usual standard. I will not be visiting again sadly.

I had an excellent experience at the shelley fram fryer. Although it was very busy the serving team were quick and efficient - special notice to the lovely girl who served be (I believe her name was Jaya) she was a gem! No longer go for my fish and chips I love to have a quick catchup with Jaya! Overall brilliant expereince! Would 10/10 recommend - very hygeinic aswell :)

the food is always amazing, but on top of this, it is the staff and the kindness of them, even when they are busy or clearly stressed they are so immensely kind. highly recommend, if they have you waiting it is worth it as the fresher the better.

Always consistent with excellent food and customer service. Whatever you order, you know it’s going to be great. I love this place and the food and staff are extremely friendly and know how to look after your needs

We would recommend this place to any one who asked us about where to eat. We hope you are hungry we got a single portion of chips and I could have feed 3 people.

Cannot give a poor review as have been very satisfied coming here for many years at least once a month. But I have to say, often have had to grill the cod when I get home as it can be undercooked. Last Sunday was the most undercooked I’ve ever had and so ended up not eating it. It’s such a shame that this does happen sometimes and it’s sort of a relief when it’s not. Other than that, spotlessly clean and I don’t mind waiting for good food. Today we went to Dovehouse chippy due to last week’s experience. It’s my only criticism, I hope this review is read because this place is virtually perfect and I love to see a great chippy do well.

I saw "Simon M" wrote "they have a captive audience who don't know any better" and that prompted me to write this review. The food, in particular the cod, is amazing in this chip shop - they also never seem to serve undercooked chips which so many shops do when things get busy. I have lived all over the country, visited many countries in the world and this would be rated as my #1 chip shop. The covid protections seem very robust and they continue to produce incredible food.

First fish n chips in a while, and couldn’t fault it! Was delicious! Great fast and friendly service too - 100% recommend :)

Like everyone, we’re really missing going out for a meal but while lockdown continues, we have a lot of takeaways instead.Saturday, we felt like fish and chips and our local is the Shelly Farm Fryer.I noticed an advert on their door for their click and collect app while shopping recently.This is a really great idea and is very easy to use and includes all options like salt, vinegar or both etc. You can even include a note to provide more info on your requirements.I arrived at my selected time slot, went to left window (for C&C orders) showed my ticket on my phone and my order was just being finished. Perfect.A tap of the credit card and I’m on my way.The shop has been completely adapted for Covid with counter screens and floor marking etc.Well done to them for adapting so well to this awful situation.Oh, and our haddock and chips were excellent :)

Always friendly service, excellent food and our favourite fish shop. Rated as one of the best fish shops by the Birmingham mail for a number of years. The food is always worth the wait.I have no vested interest in this ship apart from as a very happy customer. Entries in the Birmingham mail confirm 5 out of 5 (I ve had to remove the link) and below that is the website (again, trip advisor have removed this link) to order click and collect so you don’t have to leave a review that you had to wait ten mins. And as for the person who left a 1 out of 5 for receiving only one fish, clearly the person sufffers with SMS. I ve been served plenty of times by the person who they ve referenced and they are very kind, good server, etc.A great chip shop.

I am a Keyworker (Pharmacist) and I placed an order for collection after I finished work but I was held up and finished late. I called and asked if I could collect on my way home and they catered for my needs and allowed me to jump the queue to get my food. I am very grateful they did this for me. The food was great too :)

Visited here the other day for the first time and stood waiting for about 10 minutes before anyone even spoke to us, I understand you're busy with phone orders but you can still greet your customers and let them know there's a wait. Also paid around £20 for 3 items and a sauce. Although they have floor markings in place and only allow 3 people in at a time, this slowly becomes irrelevant once they get busier. I watched an employee take cash from a lady and without cleaning her hands started packing and making orders, this is unacceptable and also their team is not social distancing at all, although hard, this is not just for the safety of them but also their customers. Quality of the cod and chips was okay, chicken was poor and if you want your chip shop taking genuine safety measures during this pandemic, don't visit here...

We went to this chip shop for the first time and it will certainly be the last we ordered 2 fish and chips and when we got home there was 1 fish and chips and 1 chips only and I paid for 2 I heard the lady say they were running out of fish shortly I asked the young tall girl is my order correct and complete and she said yes but obviously not they were so greasy as well worst chippy ever will not recommend to anyone

We use the Shelly Fryer once a week and the food is always consistently good. It is never overcooked. I think a reason is that they do not cook large batches so the fish and chips is not sitting there for a long period. A possible downside of this is that it might take longer to get your order but it is worth it for the food to be freshly cooked.

under cooked or over cooked and greasy. tried enough times , take a chance , but don't be too surprised if it doesn't hit the mark every time , they do try hard and mean well , but i expect better , and get a lot better elsewhere ,they have a captive audience that don't know any better ,

Always use this chip shop! Good selection of food, good value for money, staff are very friendly and welcoming and always do their best to cater for whatever you ask for.

Been coming here for years - arguably the best fish and chips in Solihull. They do have great tasting chips and a good selection of Kebabs, Pie and more - well worth a visit

Hands down my favourite chippy, was driving through monkspath on the way home from work and decided i would like a kebab.I got more than i asked for, the kebab taste just like how my mother used to cook it.Its got to be a 5 * from me on this occasion!

Went to this chip shop after 8 pints of Guinness, although my taste buds were pretty much non existent at that point this chip shop was unreal. Clean and fresh. Fish, Chips and curry sauce.. Spot on.

This is my local chippy and really is the best! The chicken kebab is fantastic! They use the highest quality meat and fish.

Given the dietary consequences, fish and chips are now an occasional treat, rather than a regular choice - so when we have them, they have to be good! The Fryer provides huge portions, freshly cooked at a reasonable price. What more could you want?

Been using this chippy for years and has always been consistent .the fish is always first class and the batter is nice and light .chips piping hot and cooked to perfection .one of best around .gets very busy at peak times .

Inspired for fish and chips following bbc2 takeaway series. Fine in principal but these guys can't fry fish and chips.... wrapping in paper, food sweats and is destined for the bin.....

There is always a queue at this chip shop so it must be popular. Portions are a good size. Chips are tasty. Good value for money. Decent menu with lots of choice.

If ever I am allowed a treat this is where I plump for. It may be expensive but the fish quality is A1 and the chips come by the bucketful. Five star fish shop but can get busy when you least expect it. Probably a sign of its success.

Stop in here from time to time for lunch. Always VERY TASTY! Will continue to eat here and if you fancy fish and chips I would highly recommend this fryer!
