Been a regular for a number of years and have ordered, perhaps very boringly, the same meal every time. The price has always slightly varied, which has never been a massive issue as the quality was always brilliant. However, delivery drivers always ask whether there’s a tip for them, despite a delivery fee always being included. After a recent order, where the driver quite rudely asked if I wanted change, I noticed that items were missing from my order. After calling the resturant to inform them of this, they called me back and said they weren’t going to come back out and deliver the remainder of my order - despite the fact I’d paid for the food, a delivery fee and tipped the delivery driver. I was then told that they’d give me a bit extra next time, but that they were unable to send me an email, or give me any confirmation that would be the case. I just needed to mention it when I next rang. I asked to be refunded for the items I didn’t receive and was greeted with “for god sake” I won’t be ordering from them again as a result.

Firstly my bottle of coke was flat. When I checked the date on the bottle, it had expired in March 2022. The vegetable balti wasn't very nice at all. Vegetables were over cooked and sauce was bland. Worse of all, they tried to over charge us. They had put on an extra £1 on each main dish and the drinks were £2.90 for a bottle and £2.20 for a glass of small coke. They had written down £6.75. Had to query the bill twice. They were not happy. When they brought the amended bill, they said they had given us a special discount, but the bill was what it was supposed to be. Always check your bill closely, and use a calculator to add it up.

Visited shapla with friends (a group of 7) from the moment we arrived it felt as if we were putting the staff out by arriving for our pee booked table The waiter who greeted us was very rude and abrupt. After a while we were seated at an un made table with cheap paper table cloth which resembled loo roll we were given 2 menues to look through which we had to share between 7 of us we then waited for over 20 minutes until a drinks order was taken ( which we had to ask them to take several times) We then waited an age for said drinks to arrive in dribs and drabs. We eventually got the waiters attention to get some poppadoms when they brought them to the table we were given 1 small tray of accompaniments no cutlery no napkins and had to keep leaning all over one another the waiter then asked if he could take our menus for another table ( we still hadn't ordered) we tried to get the waiters attention to get food ordered after being in the resturant for over 40 minutes still no one came . We eventually decided to cut our losses and walked out. We went to another curry house in New Barnet ( red onion) where staff were attentive friendly and food was amazing. In short give this tired dump a miss and go else where Shapla you missed an opportunity tonight as we spent over 200 in the other resturant and left a very generous tip. I do have a tip for shapla staff - call it a day and sell up

Ok I have grown up in an Indian household and eaten good Indian food all over the world, I’ve been here for food to sit down and eat, this time take away, this was the worst jalfrazy I’ve ever had!!! Disgusting swimming in oil bad tasting veg , sauce was old, and to top it not offered my change. ????? There is a lot of room for improvement, why do people eat this as the owners would not eat it if they were served it to them at home so shocking Never again £25 for badly made food

I’ve been to the Shapla several times, I think it’s fine as your average Indian on the high street. A couple of my friends rave about it. We visited as part of the “Eat out to help out” but I felt really uncomfortable. Initially certain tables had napkins which appeared to mean “not in use” which put me at ease. During the meal we were taken aback that they put a couple right next to us, less than a metre away. The couple subsequently decided to leave and I politely pointed out to a member of staff that customers should not be sat next to each other. Later on they put a customer next to a family on the other side of the restaurant. It’s up to the customer to weigh it up but in my opinion it’s not an ideal situation during this current time. The food itself is what you’d expect for an Indian restaurant on the High Street. It’s quite tasty but service can be hit and miss.

Was recommended to go here by friends. I’d last visited about 35+ years previous when it was a regular haunt for us post-nightclub. My memories were of a fairly drunk crowd and a scruffy place. But, we went and it was very nice. Old fashioned decor but clean and the staff were helpful. Food was very nice. No complaints. Maybe visiting at 8pm made a difference! Who knows. Went in last night with my wife, restaurant was really busy but they found us a table. There was a large group in there, and working in this industry I know that that can impact the speed of the kitchen. Orders taken pretty quickly then waited, waited, waited and waited. Eventually a waiter asked if we were having starters to which we replied 'yes', so he changed the cuttlery. Continued to wait, then a waiter bought over a hot plate to put the food on. We questioned if this was for the starters and he promptly took the hot plate away. We waited some more by now this was 50 minutes. Eventually my wife's starter appeared, vegetable somosas, which were stone cold, no sign of my starter so we sent it back and decided enough was enough. One of the waiters tried to persuade us to stay for our main course, but we refused and paid for two drinks. There were a lot of staff front of house, so it wasn't a staffing issue. The large group probably didn't help, but you should be able to cope with large numbers. At no point did anyone say sorry we are really busy tonight, your food may take a while. No communication and total visible chaos, and that was just front of house, god knows what state the kitchen was in. We won't go back

We have been going there for few years. At one point we stopped as the food deteriorated, most of the vegetables in the curries were half cooked and raw. When we told the boss - he did not like it, he gets a bit sensitive...Recently we stopped ordering poppadoms as they immediately bring the pots with chutney and charge nearly £3 just for the chutney. Then, when you finished with the poppadoms they take away the chutney - and put it on another table. And so on. What really put us off was that we noticed they do not put fresh chutney but just top up the used one which is disgusting when you know the same chutney has been on another table and perhaps one more...the hygiene and food standards are questionable. The other put off about this place are large groups of men who after being in a pub fancy passing by for a curry and - behave. The noise at times is unbearable. Otherwise staff is kind and the food overall not too expensive (compared to others) and ok.

They were helpful in providing a lot of onion salad (my favourite) but it had no fresh coriander in it and was very harsh - they were quite sharp onions! The poppadums were crisp and fresh and the beer (bottled, not draft) was OK. The best thing I ordered was the tarka dall - very flavoursome - but the other thali components (sag paneer, two vegetable curries, a 'raita' that was just yoghurt) were undistinguished. Apparently the meat curries were a bit underspiced. Service was efficient and prompt and the ambiance was really nice; if this was my local I would go back, but I wouldn't travel far for it.

Although service to the table was good time-wise, the attitude of some of the waiters was in need of considerable improvement - they just didn't seem to want to be there and some of the food was just "dumped" on the table with little regard for who actually ordered it. That did not impress a number of us.Will we return - yes, because the food and evening was excellent and maybe the poor quality staff will have moved on by then.

Since first eating at Shapla early last year, it has become a go-to for my friends and I to have a catch up and enjoy some good food. We always get exactly the same thing everytime and we're never disappointed. The portion sizes are spot on even though I can never entirely finish my meal. Service is good and you don't have to wait very long for your food to be prepared. Good food, great company, couldn't ask for anything more.

I have given this restaurant an average rating..that`s not because the food is not up to scratch ..it is ! There`s a whole bunch of high street tandoori restaurants around that serve it`s food to cater for western taste, that`s to say you don`t really get the true taste of India... and this is one...the atmosphere is good and the staff and service are top class..but there`s a big difference in what I`ll call the real McCoy.....a good guide is to see how many Indian people are actually eating inside....{check out the Maurya in Stanmore) and you`ll see what I mean.....

The Shapla has been in Barnet High Street for as long as I can remember. I think my earliest memory of it would be from the very early eighties when I was only about seven or eight. The fact that it has survived for as many years as it has surely means they are doing something right. I am something of a regular here and have nothing but praise for the place. I have yet to have a poor curry here, but my own personal recommendations are the lamb bhuna, lamb vindaloo, chicken jalfrezi, chicken dhansak and the Shapla tandoori mossala.Great friendly service only adds to the overall experience.

Sapla has been in Barnet for more years than I care to remember, and whilst its not a location I visit often, I was recently visiting friends locally and we decided to order a takeaway.Unlike so many take away meals that aren;t that great the food at Shapla was really good, tasty, and good value. The staff are also really friendly (and funny).

In an ideal spot - opposite the best Pub in Barnet (The Mitre) - this is a cracking venue for lovers of Indian Food.We use it regularly and the quality, and attentiveness of service is consistently first rate. What sets it apart from the usual formulaic Curry House is twofold; the menu is long and varied and the pricing structure seems to have been carried over from the seventies such is the value for money. Long may it continue and well done to the owner and staff.

Ate here with friends on Saturday evening. It is good quality Indian food cooked well. The proton sizes are not too big and there is not too much oil used. Generous supply of chutney with the popadums.

I enjoy going to Shaplas. The food is of a good standard, however when I have been there I get the impression that the waiters are rushing us along. I have also been there and the service has been slow where other members of our table have had to ask several times for items which have not arrived. I have yet to encounter a happy medium. I have been in a large group and also in a small group. I tend to go on a Friday/ Saturday night, granted these are busy times, so it could be different on other days. The tables are incredibly close together so it does feel quite crampedAs I said above the food is of a good standard. If you order your starters and main courses at the same time please be aware that the waiter could be putting the curries on the table before you have even finished your starters or the tables cleared making a small table feel quite claustrophobic. The menu has a variety of dishes, but some of the curries could do with being spicier. The waiters are happy to make changes to the level of spice in a dish which is a plus. All in all its somewhere I would only go out of convenience rather than a desire to eat at the restaurant.

I eat from Shapla often. They never disappointed me. The restaurant is always busy as extremely popular around Barnet, and you know why from the first second you enter at the restaurant. From the charming smile of the host behind the bar, the wonderful team of waiters & the stunning food that you order coming from the kitchen where I could say the head chef there could give a lesson to some around here. I had take away delivery sometimes. the delivery is always efficient and not late. I would highly recommend you Shapla for any occasion.

We went here on Saturday night (14.3.15). The restaurant was busy, but they found us a table. The tables on the left hand side of the restaurant are unbelieveably crowded and squashed together, with literally a few inches between them so it is hard to get in and out. This is not conducive to a nice meal out and I would recommend that if you go here you ask to sit down the right hand side where tables are spaced out due to the walls. The menu had a reasonable variety and was well priced. The food that we chose was ok, not really hot enough on arrival and service was very slow, which seemed to be due to the staff dealing with lots of take away and delivery orders. They should have had separate staff managing these. We probably won't return.

Went to the good old Shapla tonight - it's been in Barnet for at least as long as we have - 30 years and it's a family concern. The meal was excellent and the staff were friendly and efficient. What more can I say. For some reason it was empty. Maybe people were saving their evening out for Mothers Day in a few days' time.

Have been to shapla many times over the years and have always found it to be a decent local curry house. Went last week in a group of 8 and had a table booked for 2030. The restaurant phoned at 2000 and asked if we could do 2100 instead, which we agreed to. We got there at 2100 and no table (it was busy, but I'd made a booking and they'd confirmed it when they phoned me). At 2115 we were still standing waiting with no sign of a table so gave up and went somewhere else.

Have been a long time ago, and remember it to be a lot better with regards to taste! Very busy but was a Saturday Night, so to be expected but the wait for the food was forever! Great service though and very attentive staff, good atmosphere but when the food did eventually arrive, the rice was dry, and the food had a real lack of taste and seasoning, something I have never experience in an Indian Restaurant! Bland sums it up, would not recommend or go back, however it was cheap, just as well, as may not have offered a Dime!

If you order the same dish it can taste quite different depending on which night you go saying this it is my preferred curry house in Barnet.
