Excellent food and very good portions would highly recommend this restaurant a little out of the way but we’ll worth the travel

As a change I decided to try this place having passed it numerous time. The shared platter to start was lovely and the main course was beautiful. In fact it was so nice my partner decided to try it the following evening and I joined her. I can honestly say it was a really nice meal. One minor issue was the chef answering the phone and getting the order wrong which meant having to hang around for ten minutes waiting for the correct order. However the wait was worth it.will definitely be going again

We moved to Doncaster last year and as big curry fans, we tried all the local takeaways trying to find one that was decent. We were so disappointed with them all until we found Shapla. The food is absolutely amazing every week. We get a chicken tikka balti and share between two adults as the portions are so generous. The delivery is always really quick and the service is also friendly. We haven't dined in yet so can't comment on that but would definitely definitely recommend for a takeaway. Very fairly priced too.

Myself, my wife and a friend visited The Shapla Indian restaurant attached to the Queen Victoria pub. Although a little of the beaten track (That said it is only about 200 yards from Thorne South railway station!!) it is getting quite a reputation among the local population. I booked a table for 7-30 last Friday (14th June) . We were greeted on arrival and shown to our table and ordered our drinks and food from an extensive The ladies 2 large cokes and myself a beer (unfortunately no real ale. The manager explained that there was not enough custom to make it viable). our order was taken. 2 popadoms with a pickle tray. These arrived quite quickly. one of the pickles was rather hot to the delight of our friend. This was followed at a convenient interval by our main dishes My wife, not keen on over-hot dishes, had chicken Korma with chips (!) her friend chicken madras, lemon fried rice and chips. Having not seen it before I tried the Malayan curry with chicken (recommended by the chef). Not hot slightly warm taste with background flavours. The portions were quite large and attractively presented. We all agreed that this was among one of the best Indian meals we had tasted (in this country anyway). The staff were friendly and helpful. There were on our visit quite a few empty tables but I expect this to change. The price was (make up your own mind) very reasonable. the whole meal, drinks food etc. less than £45 for the 3 of us. Will I be back? You bet!!

Edit, the guys have turned this place around in the last 18 months and I would recommend again and have been using regularly. I’ve also had numerous conversations along the way with the new owner. They are now backto being the best in Doncaster. For reference, here’s what I wrote after they had taken over. “Sorry guys. When you took over masala a few months back I was impressed. You went back to doing things Jay style (Jay was head chef at masala 7 years back) and I was happy that you’d rescued masala. Unfortunately that didn’t last long. My last three orders have been very Pataks which I can buy in the supermarket. To add to the misery, todays order has what I thought was glass in it (turned out to be a molten sugar cube). I’d eaten hardly any before discovering it nearly breaking my tooth. Who knows how many more there are as I haven’t eaten any more. I’ve commented on masala for a lot of years, giving high praise where it was due and letting masala know when they were getting it wrong. Ask old Abdul or Jay (you know them). Some of your recent Google comments have been good and it’s no surprise because when you took over it was good but anyone thinking of trying them now, don’t be fooled the older photos, they are nothing like what I’ve received lately. One comment is that the reviewer had eaten all over the world and that yours was the best. That was true for me at one time (Jay time) and a comment I left before old masala struggled recently. It’s up to you guys to turn it around but if you don’t, check back on these comments in 12 months when you are wondering why it’s failing. This is Doncaster. £15 for a curry, rice and naan isn’t cheap. Especially if it’s no better than my non Indian missus can make at home. The people will vote with their feet.”

Ordered £32 worth of food that came with no freebies. I’m not being cheap but some poppadoms wouldn’t go a miss. You can order same food from indus for £25 and they give you poppadoms pickle tray and chips free. Won’t be ordering from here again.

What a little Gem! We decided to eat here while staying in Doncaster. Wow what a lovely little place. The staff are just beautiful; warm and humble. The food was absolutely gorgeous. Definitely recommend the momos, chicken jalfrezi and Nepalese chicken masala. This will be a regular eatery for us when we stay in Doncaster. If I could give more than 5 stars I would 😊
