Shanty in Coleraine

We had a cod dish and a burger. They were two tasty and well-prepared meals. We also had a pint of Guinness.

First time for us in this great restaurant situated in the former Portrush lifeboat house right on the coast. Cosy, lovely view, great service and above all fabulous food. Everything we ate was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Will definitely make a return visit. Popular restaurant and booking advisable.

We sat outdoors in the sunshine just above the old boat slipway over the rocks. The pet friendly outdoor area was what attracted us. Everything else was a bonus.

Had high expectations after reading the good reviews but the food was disappointing. Had lunch of steak and potatoes and the food was nothing special.

What I love about Shanty is its dependable excellence and dining there last night was further proof of that. Everything and everyone was amazing - the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the warmth of the welcome and the outstanding customer service from people who really know what they’re doing. Can’t wait to go back.

Unfortunately, guests are not welcome here. We just wanted to have a drink with a few boys... with 9 degrees and rain, we were only allowed on the terrace, even though it was empty inside. What a shame!

We ate at Shanty today for the first time after reading great reviews, and it did not disappoint. Staff so friendly and helpful, food absolutely delicious, with a beautiful view of the sea. What more could you want. 😊

This is a great place to eat in Portrush. The food and wine menus were excellent. Everything we ordered was cooked and presented perfectly. Also, the staff! I cannot rate them highly enough - making this the most enjoyable lunch I’ve had in a while.

This is such a cute place with views of the sea and beach. The burger was honestly one of the best I've had and the service was great! Highly recommend. :)

Very warm welcome by Stacy. Excellent at her job. Food delicious 2 clean plates we had ribeye steak and chorizo chicken the 2 sticky toffee pudding. We were attended to by Jessica very friendly and attentive. These are the experiences that will bring us back to the Shanty.

Stumbled across Shanty on a day trip and it didn't disappoint! Friendly and helpful staff, Speedy service, but the food was delicious. I had the beetroot salad and a glass of prosecco and my husband had chicken wings and chips. Lovely atmosphere, and great views of the bay. Definitely recommend booking if you are reading this before deciding on somewhere to eat in portrush as it was busy, but luckily for us we were squeezed in.

This place has to be visited to be believed! The food here was outstanding! I had the Chimichurri Chicken and I would have it again, just for the potatoes alone. However, the whole this was simply amazing! The other meal purchased was a standard fish and chips, which was well received too. We were able to park right outside the door, at about 7pm.

Excellent location, even on a stormy day! We were warmly welcomed and shown to our tables. The service was very friendly without being too much. The food was excellent. I had the fish cakes to start - so light and fluffy. My husband had the chicken wings which he said were delicious. For mains, we had fish and chips and scampi, both of which were so tasty. As were the chips! Other reviews mentioned the toilet so was apprehensive. I found the toilet clean and functional - couldn’t complain at all. As a constructive suggestion, the menu didn’t say if gluten free options were available. When paying the bill, asked the gentleman at the till who most helpfully explained the full extensive range available. Maybe highlight this on the menu? We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, spread the news to our friends, particularly those who need a gluten free option and can’t wait to go back!

We’ve previously dined at the excellent Shanty, and visited for breakfast and coffee. On this occasion, we called in, without a reservation, for an afternoon cocktail. We were accommodated despite the restaurant being completely booked for dinner. The range of cocktails is extensive and the service is impeccable. We had a table overlooking the decked area and sea which provided a marvellous vantage point. I highly recommend Shanty during your next visit to Portrush!

Found this place by accident looking for somewhere to have dinner on a day trip. Very impressed, great steaks and dessert, reasonable prices and pleasant friendly staff. We will be back next time we're "up the port"!

Steaks were phenomenal. Service exceptional as always too. Couldn't fault any of the experience, would thoroughly recommend.

Chateaubriand and the cocktails are superb, will definitely be back again. The live music was a great touch as well.

Honestly can't fault this place, a hidden gem that is the jewel of Portrush's culinary scene. The restaurant itself is quaint and set in an idyllic location right on the coast (those views!) with brilliant parking on its doorstep. The atmosphere inside is warm and welcoming, with every staff member we encountered being so friendly, attentive and ensuring a first class service. Then there is the food... My goodness! Blew our minds. We went for a meal on valentine's night, I had the ribeye and the girlfriend had the fillet. Sides of smashed potatoes (honey and chilli and parmesan and garlic aoili). THE BEST steaks we have ever had and one of, if not the most memorable meals I've had the pleasure of consuming. We spent the whole meal speaking of nothing other than the food itself, a taste sensation and I savored every bite. Perfection. Worth every penny. So enamored were we that we returned the next day for lunch which was equally impressive. The cocktails are also first class and need to be experienced. I cannot express just how good this place is in words (although I have tried) all I can say is if you are looking for the best dining experience in Portrush look no further. We can't wait to return 😍

My first experience in this restaurant wasn’t great. A lunch with family visiting from Australia (my choice of lunch venue!) The biggest issue being the smallest portion of seafood chowder I’ve ever seen…and not cheap! However, I decided to give it another chance for dinner with my husband and we were both blown away! We had dinner on a Wednesday, not realising it was a special steak evening, and decided to take advantage of their excellent offer. Superb! 2 beautifully cooked steaks with sauce/ butter of choice…delicious! In fact, so good that we decided to return a few nights later (we were on a little holiday) This time we both had the lemon sole, cooked on the bone, with a very tasty sundried tomato and caper butter. Again, expertly cooked and served with the best herbed baby potatoes I’ve ever tasted! Might have had something to do with butter! 😁😋 Service from Euan, was first rate. Welcoming, knowledgeable, accommodating and good chat! The cocktails must be mentioned too. Again, expertly made, really creative, beautifully served and definitely hit the mark! All in all, 2 wonderful meals! Hats off to the kitchen/house and bar staff 👏 I’m so glad I decided to give it another go! Can’t wait to visit again!

One of my top five meals I’ve had as I travel around the world. Snuck us in without a reservation and provided a fantastic meal. Pleasent, it ostentatious design, nice wine list, delightful mixed drinks (all 4 we had were excellent!). The food was unique and well made, the service top notch (well done to Julia and Ian!). All for a very pleasent price. Top that off with a location right on the ocean and you can’t beat this place

What a wonderful experience - the best of everything!! Recommend the ribeye steak and the honey chilli potatoes - sublime.

We just walked in and the manager/owner was not friendly!! There was no one in there and he acted like they were soo booked! It was disheartening how unfriendly he was! He kept moving the tables around us which was very weird! The food was overpriced for greasy fried food!

Had the most wonderful lunch staff were amazing and the food was delicious. ..great ingredients and by far the best and tastiest food we have had in the area. A true delight, highly recommend.

Very nice atmosphere, Staffs are very kind and polite. We ate a classic fish and chips, really good and well prepared. It's a big plate, and I could share it with my husband. I recommend.

We were there for dinner as a party of 8. The location is excellent but the evening was far from satisfactory due to the service and attitude of staff and management and the very poor and dirty toilet. Some starters we received were chicken wings which were served raw and cold. On raising the issue the waitress took it back to the kitchen and returned to tell me that it was not raw but that the red colour was from the colouring/spices!! - this was despite the meat being red in colour near the bones but actually raw to touch. When I challenged her on this she repeated this and walked away. Shortly after a man approached me (he didn't introduce himself but seemed to be a manager, although dressed very scruffy). He then stated that what the waitress had been told to tell me was incorrect, and that this did not come from colouring/spices so it was obvious that someone had told her to lie for which he apologised. He then proceeded to try and explain that a red colour (blood) on the bone was normal, but assured me it was cooked!! - an attitude and explanation I found unbelievable; I am aware that chicken at times can have a pink colour on joints from bone marrow, but it was clear that what we had been served was raw. This poor experience really ruined our evening and if they had admitted their mistake, that would have been that. When paying the bill, they didn't charge for the raw food that couldn't be eaten but offered nothing further as an apology for the lies. The toilets are a disgrace (there is only one toilet for the whole restaurant, there were no paper towels, the hand drier didn't work and the floor was dirty) and had I visited the toilets before eating, I would have left immediately.

Small beach-front haunt serving a high quality seafood-centric menu. The seafood chowder was excellent, and the drink menu included a strong variety of local ales, carefully chosen wines and well designed cocktails. We came in the winter so outdoor seating wasn't much of an option, but there is a large back patio right on the water that would be perfect for a sunny summer day. Would definitely come back if we find ourselves in Portrush again.

Toilet is a disgrace. Quite dirty and no means of drying your hands after washing them. Electric drier not working, and no towels. Very unhygienic. As you enter the restaurant to the left, behind a counter visible to visitor are hundreds of menus and other documents strewn across the floor. Not good for first impression. It's a pity as the rest of the experience and food was very good.

Superb food and drink, faultless cooking. Great views and excellent service. One of the very best meals I have had in Northern Ireland. Wonderful grilled meats and exceptionally tasty desserts. Come hungry!

What a find All our food was delicious Nice relaxed atmosphere and friendly service.

I’m only going to talk about one aspect of this restaurant because until it is improved nothing else is relevant. On a busy Saturday night every person must share one toilet. On the night we were there the toilet seat was soiled when we arrived, the bin was overflowing and this is how the toilets stayed for the rest of the night. There was always a queue of people awkwardly waiting at the toilet and most men gave up and urinated on the rocks outside - this is unhygienic and dangerous. The toilet has no working hand drier so everyone is expected to dry their hands on toilet paper which is then left on the floor next to the overflowing bin. I don’t understand how this is legal, it is certainly not ethical given the size of the venue. For the one toilet that is available not to be kept clean just compounds the issue and highlights a disregard for the comfort of the customers. Until there is a second toilet provided and kept clean, I just don’t think the venue is fit for the number of people who eat there. It’s a shame as the staff, the food and the drinks are the best in the area but I’m not sure I’ll be back.

Food is delicious, it's a busy place so be patient when ordering. My biggest gripe (and it seemed to be EVERYBODY'S biggest issue) ONE TOILET to service the whole restaurant???? Unbelievable. You could be waiting 20mins in a qué while your food arrives at the table. There were men urinating outside!!! As much as the food was top notch, most of our party have said they won't come back due to the issue of queuing to use one toilet (which isn't the cleanest after a lot of people using it, dear love the wee cleaner, they have a hard job on their hands!)

Had a very pleasant meal here tonight. Shared a starter of Shanty crinkles with tapenade etc., which was light and tasty as required and recommended. I had the ribeye steak and my wife the pork belly and both were delicious; the steak with roast veg and we shared a roast mash side. Good choice of wines by the glass and finished with a Port and Hennesey Brandy. A nice setting beside the sea in a lovely renovated former fire station. The staff were really knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Would definitely return when next in this area.

We always go to Shanty when we’re in town and without a doubt my favourite restaurant in Portrush.

Excellent food great service we have booked again

Table next to bar.lnot great. Starter very disappointing… overdone scallops and pork. Steak mains were ok . Service average/indiffernt.. I would not be back for dinner but maybe a coffee on the terrace on a good day here as I imagine the location is the best thing going for it..🙄

Seasonal cocktail menu was unreal and great to see them incorporating and working with local distilleries, keep up the great work

Popped in for a half-pint of pale ale to get out of the wind and rain. They were meant to be closing between the lunch and evening shift, but squeezed me in for 20mins with pram in tow. Great service.

Great staff, very friendly and ready to suggest, great atmosphere and delicious food

Beautiful location in a refurbished lifeboat station. Views are stunning. We both had steaks which were delicious. The staff could not be friendlier or more attentive. As others have mentioned, the toilets need closer and more regular attention but it's a very busy restaurant. Staff should not be expected to check the loo after every use.

Great experience at Shanty. Something a bit different from the usual Portrush offerings. Dropped a star as we weren't told about specials and the wait from starters to mains seemed a bit long. Will definitely be back

The calamari was more interesting than most although it’s still deep-fried, sort of. And the Portuguese tart is to die for! Don’t miss it.

Day trip to Portrush and found this fab restaurant to eat We shared a few small plates which were delicious Great selection of wines snd cocktails Great location especially on a nice sunny day! Today wasn’t the day to eat outdoors but very comfortable indoor seating!

Amazing food and service! The steak and vegetables were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Servers were great and friendly. If you're here to visit the Giant's Causeway, Portrush is basically the next closest town after Bushmills. Highly recommended a good meal!

Arrived ten minutes or so before they started serving food at 5. We were seated immediately and served drinks and our dinner orders taken promptly at 5. I had the chimichurri chicken with an absolutely wonderful side dish of roasted potatoes, spinach, onions and tiny small cubes of ham served in a small cast iron skillet. Perfect. My wife had the rossoto and was equally pleased. Attentive service. Finished with sticky toffee pudding- what else when in the UK? Highly recommended.

If I had gone to the bathroom before ordering I would not have eaten in this restaurant. They were so dirty tissue paper and handroll all over the floor. Dusty on top of the toilet hand dryer not working bins full to the brim. Check the cleaning list behind the door it was signed at 7. 0. Clock . I was in the bathroom at 7.15 ! The red emergency lead was removed. This is a disabled bathroom! The food was just ok portions were small . Won't be back .

Great location at the end of town, which means fabulous ocean views, especially if you dine outside. Pleasant and helpful wait staff. The butternut squash risotto I had was outstanding. Highly recommended. Attached picture was taken from just outside the restaurant.

Such a great restaurant ! Fantastic food, friendly welcoming staff that were really interested in our trip to the Antrim Coast. I went for the seafood because of the location and it didn't disappoint. If your in Portrush this place is a must for food. Make sure you book !!

We arrived in Ireland four days ago. We went to 8 different restaurants and it was at Shanty that we ate the best dishes and above all, saw the most smiling faces, with attentive staff. Thanks to the team!

This place is amazing, staff are great, drinks are gorg, food is AMAZING and the location is so hard to beat. So much of portrush is the same mid-range restaurants serving the same food and vibe but this place is miles above everywhere else. One of the best restaurants in Northern Ireland to be honest 🦞🥂

I really wanted to give a 5 rating. The food was wow. I had a ribeye steak and my wife had a filet steak, by far the best steaks ever, we came back a couple of nights later with family and again the food was absolutely amazing. I went for the pork this time, my wife, son and his fiancee all went with steaks and everyone was wowed by the food, the wine and the service, the staff are amazing. The only downside and I want to apologise to this establishment for the 3 and not 5 rating but this was a major issue! The toilet facilities were shocking, I’d go as far as to say disgusting. One toilet had to serve everyone for the whole night. On our first visit the ladies bin had an item hanging out of it, I won’t elaborate and the regular bin was overflowing with paper towels and tissue, it was all over the floor. Due to there being only one toilet, the toilet wouldn’t have been the most hygienic, as a man I’m glad I can stand to do my pee. On our second visit, unfortunately, the toilet issue was also shocking, still one toilet fits all. Thankfully the ladies bin was not as it was previously but the other bin was again overflowing. I paid two visits to the loo and on my second visit, the toilet seat had actually been ripped off, there was nothing to dry my hands with, the paper towels were all over the floor as the bin was full. Definitely nobody was checking the toilet during the course of the evening, if it was they’d have noticed the toilet seat and lack of paper towels to dry with and of course the bin situation. This issue really lets this restaurant down. It’s a basic requirement to have a fully functioning toilet for all genders and when a restaurant is this popular there should surely be more than one facility and the fact that there was only one facility it should have been regularly checked and maintained.

The best place for dinner in Portrush by a mile. Great food selection, and great drinks including cocktails. Chimichurri chicken was excellent. Try the Shanty Crinkles - delicious.

Lovely place, right on the sea (former RNLI)

It's our favorite place in portrush. They update the menu every once in a while and it's always so tasty. Funnily enough my favorite dish is fish and chips, they're amazing, nothing like your traditional greasy chippy.

Lunch this time with a friend. Never disappoints. Great food and a perfect way to spend a few hours out of the unwelcome, inclement weather. Shanty was warm and welcoming. Great service and as usual food. The restaurant is consistent with quality of food and service.

Amazing restaurant on the north coast that is serving beautiful fresh fish, great service and unbeatable view. We visited for my mums birthday she loved it we will definitely be back. Nice change from all the other restaurants in the area serving up the same sub standard food.

This is a lovely spot to chill and have a coffee sitting outside overlooking the sea, it's just beautiful.

Great tasty food, I had the burger has to be the best I've ever tasted all other adults in my party had different meals and all very pleased. Staff very friendly and attentive. Could very highly recommend The Shanty and not bad price wise too

Great lunch and excellent service in a fabulous location- in spite of the weather!

Second time visiting this restaurant and each time I have been impressed with the standard of food. I had the pork belly as my main and it was very good. My father had the scampi and it was equally good judging by him clearing the plate. My mother had chilli and honey potatoes, not sure that's the exact description, but they were incredible. Good food, excellent staff and a nice atmosphere as well. I'll be back to try another dish soon.

The location of this restaurant is great. At the end of Portrush Pier. The view of the ocean is great but you have to be able to access it. Because the room upstairs doesn't allow you to see it. It is also overheated and noisy. The menu mainly offers meat. The fish & chips are very good. The service is attentive and efficient. But the prices are a little high especially if you don't enjoy the view.

I think possibly the roasted red pepper soup was the nicest soup I ever had!!!! Staff were really friendly and the atmosphere is chilled

The hospitality options in Portrush are many and varied but the ones you really want to go to are limited. Shanty is up there with the best of them. What shocked me most was how reasonable its prices were particularly its wine list which was as good as I’ve seen in a long time but for much less money compared to other places. To see this is a great sign of a restaurant that promotes what it does without hammering its customers for the privilege of being in its premises. I always feel that it’s a great feeling to be able to go to a restaurant and quickly get the feeling that you’re going to go back even before you have finished your starter. Shanty is one such restaurant- I’ll be back.

Food was amazing but waitress spilled full glass of rose over my friend’s white trouser’s . I know accidents can happen but thought poor on management side that no one came down to apologise or offer recompense, free bottle of wine would have been nice .

Lovely place. Was a.cold day. Wanted something cold as sitting outside but the 2 salads.had goats.cheese which I don't like and could not be changed so had the heated cheese which although tasty came with 2.pieces of bread and cost £12 which was OK for the location. The surprise was the cost of the wine. We had a large white and large red the red was.over £11 and the white over £10...are we I. London?? Can't afford.to go back..a.shame.as.seemed OK.

Last night Tom & I along with family and friends from USA enjoyed a wonderful meal…. Served by very attentive and polite staff. Another wonderful meal in this lovely restaurant. Special thanks to Ian & Stacey for looking after us. 👋💯 Doris

We shared the breads with oils the dips were delicious Two lobster rolls Devine One steak with flatbread brillantly cooked And a fish and chips which again was perfect Service excellent

AWFUL PLACE!!!! Gorgeous location but unfortunately extremely rude members of staff and very poor service. Tried to contact them privately to resolve an issue but they’ve just ignored me. Got order wrong, then brought half a replacement, then the 2nd half of the replacement meal was brought 20 minutes after the first… the bread was awful and also cold by this point, and our other family had finished their meal by the time the other meals came. We told a male staff member at the end we really weren’t satisfied and would be expecting not to pay full price, he was argumentative, defensive and downright rude. Refused to take any money off the bill. Ended up paying £75 for 4 coffee and 4 meals which were vile. Very disappointed.

AWFUL Got our order wrong multiple times, the food was awful (scampi was lovely but everything else horrible) brought everything including the replacement mains and sides out at different times so they were cold. When we complained at the end we were met with a very arrogant male member of staff who argued black was white with us and refused to take off anything off the bill. So disappointed as this was not a cheap meal.

We had a lovely meal here. Steak was perfectly cooked to our needs. Mash and triple cooked were delicious 😋 Would recommend.
