If I could leave zero stars I would..... Absolutely disgusting service and told it would be 15 mins Over 2hrs later and still no food 15 mins down the road. Food was awful and cold

I have been coming to Shanghai Star for over 10tears I always receive very good service over the phone when placing my orders. They give you a time to collect and it’s usually ready within that time. The food is freshly cooked at time of order and On collection of my takeaway, it is ready within minutes of arriving. Fresh hot and delicious always.

Food was cold had to phone the takeaway to complain, missing items from my order. When my right item turned up, this was also freezing cold. Could not be bothered to ring to complain again. won't be going back.

The experience was mediocre; although the overall price were lower than other Chinese takeouts, the inconvenience of cash-only payments posed a challenge. Unfortunately, the menu displayed both on the wall and at the counter was obscured by tape, making it difficult to ascertain the cost per dish. Additionally, the nearby cash point charges fees for withdrawals. Moreover, the slippery floor on the night of my visit was a safety hazard.

Used to be the best Chinese in Telford has gone down hill lately still nice staff but food is very poor they don’t like putting meat in your dishes anymore I think they have become vegetarians

We've been a little disappointed with our usual takeaway recently so have tried a few others in the area, which have all been disappointing. We decided to try here, ordering the set meal for two. There was enough food for 3 and it was all really good, the nicest chinese we've had in a good while. I think that this will be our new regular takeaway.

Once, the best take away in Telford, now just a beige, bland and watery mess. We’ve been a long standing customer for Shanghai Star for many years, and the past 6 months or so the standards have dipped, correction, they’ve fallen off the cliff. After years of being blown away by the place, my standards were set quite high but whoever is looking after the quality control, needs to get back in the game. Overly disappointed by our last meal and won’t be returning unless something changes. Sorry

First visit in several months and was left disappointed compared to the experience in years gone by. Previously the food quality, price and portions were excellent, the only issue was that you could guarantee Shangai star would miss out an item from your order, they are notorious for it. Roll forward first visit in more than a year and you guessed it, they missed out the sweet and sour sauce that should accompany the battered prawn balls - top tip if you do try this place, you MUST check everything before Leaving their premises or allowing the delivery driver to escape. The usual good quality of food was also disappointing. Pork yuk sung was unusually dry, literally lumpy, couldn't finish it, first time ever. Chicken and cashews, so disappointing, far too much garlic. Even opening the tray we were met with a hit of garlic. In addition the chicken was inedible as it was overcooked and rubbery. Another dish couldn't be finished. Battered King prawns were fine except they didn't supply the sauce and therefore eat them dry. Fried rice was fine. Only based on the trust built up on previous years and the fact the same owner is still in charge, I would visit again but it won't be anytime soon.

We have had takeaways from here a few years once a week , But last night , 25 march , The food was not great cold and not fresh , No prawn crackers , Can’t believe I’m writing this , but they need to up there game

Best chinese food I've had for a very long time

I always ordered the noodles from them and some pork ribs. The noodles are made very well and taste very nice.

The food is getting extremely poor! Got a small portion of pork balls last night and over cooked meat and burnt batter...called and complained and was offered a replacement...so just been back to get more and they were just as bad! Up until now I'd of recommended them but not anymore

2 hours to deliver. Beef like leather and was binned. Ordered 8 pork ball received 4.

Pre ordered food for asap which the option was 5:35 Rang up at 5:50 to ask where this is as I ordered at 4 and live 6 minutes away. For the lady on reception to say well it said 5:35 so that’s it… I responded with its well past 5:35 so sort it out.. Absolutely appalling service, this isn’t the first time… gone down hill, poor service, poor food, left over rice and food which is barely edible and hard Do not visit - have been regular for 3 years but the last 3-4 times been appalling.

Ordered a collection tonight. Rang up after 50 minutes of hearing nothing to be told " your order was ready 10 minutes ago" since there's no tracking and no one has called me I'm not sure how I'm supposed to know this? Once I collected my order one item was missing, when I called to ask for it to be delivered I was told they don't deliver to my postcode (despite living 10 minutes away) and that I could either drive back myself or add to my next order. What a great scheme in taking peoples money "forgetting to add an item" and forcing them to come back for more. But supposedly my order was waiting for me for 10 minutes?! Appalling customer service - never again.

We always order a takeout from here, twice a month, wouldn't go anywhere else. Food is fabulous, inside you can see the chefs in the kitchen, all the staff are great, the receptionist is wonderful, and the delivery drivers are very friendly and get the food to us super fast the food is always so hot we have to wait, which is such a rarity when it comes to takeout. Five starts ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Use to come here alot. I just bought the family dinner. And I cudnt believe what I was given. . I went to go collect it thinking it wud be nice and hot by the time I got home. We're as delivery can take up to hour... it was given to me within 5 to 10 mins of me being in there. . food was cold. Tasteless anaemic. I advise spend ur money else were. Never again will they have my custom. Gone really bad. 3 start rating

Ordered 2 vegetarian spring rolls, and they contained NOTHING but beansprouts in them, it was disgusting; I didn't eat them I threw them away. I like beansprouts, but I don't like a mouth full of them, and if you think I'm exaggerating I pulled apart the roll, and it was literally nothing but beansprouts and pastry. Ordered some large curry sauces as well, but received regulars, normally I wouldn't care, but this is a common occurrence with this restaurant and happens almost every time I order. I've been a regular here for quite a while, and I shall not be returning, there are better Chinese takeaways elsewhere. Curry sauce was still was banging though 2 stars.

Consistently good food. Nice and spicy too (the menu indicates whether it will be hot). Delivery has been unpredictable so I always collect instead.

Well, I have had quite a few deliveries from here over the years. Also, I mainly cook my own Chinese dishes these days. Firstly delivery: absolutely spot on to the nearest minute. Secondly: Yeung chow fried rice. Well, it was okay.could have done with more heat in the wok I think. Thirdly: chicken curry. Now it does state on the menu that mushrooms are included. But my curry was ‘bulked out’ with mushrooms and onions at the expense of chicken. Also, way too much Chinese five spice in the curry. Lastly: such a shame that the owners cannot be bothered to respond to any comments on here. For that, you lose stars.

We have previously rated this Chinese very highly. With our last review wondering why standards had dropped. Now? Well, capitol spare ribs - only four in the box, and battered? Why? Yuk shung - no crispy noodles anymore. Singapore fried rice and chicken, bamboo shoots & water chestnuts was okay. But, overall, standards have again dropped. We will now look for somewhere else. You need to improve. Hope you take notice. Let me know if you do.

The food is great by Telford standards and the prices are easy on the pocket as well. Quick turnaround time as well. Wishing the restaurant is open for lunch as well.

One off the better one's in the area, portions are good and priced rite. Would recommend a visit

First visit Chicken ball batter was spongey and greasy either you aren't using the right flour or your fryers aren't hot enough. Beef in tomato bland, flavourless, meat was tough. Rice was stodgy. Ribs were dry. Today I paid nearly £5 for 2 bags of chips for collection due to a kitchen crisis. I find chip shop chips too greasy and as you were closest decided to give you another try.... Perhaps last time was an off day? they were raw in the middle. If your staff can't get something as basic as chips right then you need to retrain or rehire.

Food hot and tasty, mixed special chow mein amazing. Massive prawns! Crispy chilli beef is heaven as is the chicken wings and King prawns on salt and pepper. Only downside is cash only except for Web site orders and you cannot pre order on their web site if you want delivery! Booo... apart from that try it, you won't be disappointed oh and bonus they open at 4.30.

I live in Newport and have been searching for a new Chinese since the only one that was worth eating from here went dramatically down hill (will not mention any names WAN LOI) Holy chicken balls Shanghai Star!!! I have so far tried your ribs, balls, chicken in black bean, crispy duck, salt and chilli chicken, spring rolls and crispy beef, chicken and mushroom curry and your special chow mein....every single one was plentiful, hot and dam delicious!!! Service is quite fast considering how busy you are and when you walk in you are greeted with a very clean open kitchen and the most mouth watering smells!!! If I had to say one negative then it would be having to spend £20 for some prawn crackers but you ain't losing a customer because of that!! I will be there for the foreseeable!!

First and last time we will be ordering food from here. Chip's and prawn crackers were nice but everything else was bland and tasteless. Very disappointing. Sorry.

Great value and the food is up there with the best Chinese take away food I have had, and I have tried eveything in the area. Their wontons are sublime, I heartily recommend the chow mein

The order was over 50.minutes late having already waited 2 hours, and then the food arrived cold, surprisingly enough.

Last two orders we had were really nice, can differ really as sometimes it isn't that great. Only thing that has stopped a 5* review is the staff are always so miserable and glum when collecting the food!

Regular orderer of takeaways. Always good and way above the competition. Good size portions at competitive prices, good communicators and very good after sales service if required. Very popular which speaks for itself. Never go elsewhere now.

Food and general quality has consistently got worse... but 4.5 hours waiting for a meal and then abuse from the staff... no wonder we won't be returning.

Highly recommend. Food is delicious; hot and tasty. Yuk Sung amazing with crunchy, fresh lettuce and the sweet n sour King Prawn balls yummm! Only problem is it's cash only but it doesn't put me off. Will be using again, definitely.

My personal opinion - Best Chinese in Telford. Used for a number of years and will only use Shanghai. Excellent service, amazing food and great people who own it and work there.

Beef chow mein, beef could do with being cut into smaller pieces and a bit greasy. But I've had far worse.

Best Chinese we've had in a long time, turned up piping hot very tasty and most of all not swimming in grease 😋

Excellent food, especially the sweet and sour crispy balls, had them twice In 2 weeks.

Used to be our regular weekly Chinese but last few times odd items not delivered but still charged. When you phone to explain you're basically called a liar. Will have to look elsewhere now which is a shame as food was generally good but customer service is now appalling.

Chicken balls were disappointing, sweet and sour is bad, Szechuan is bad, However squid is amazing and spicy chicken is good. Portions are good sizes and proper chunks of chicken.

Absolutely dreadful. Ordered food for two people. It took ages and ages to come. When it arrived (after calling twice) it was FREEZING cold. Not even remotely luke warm. I called to complain and they promised me a free order next time providing I had the same order. Called 2 weeks later. Refused to honour it. Said it wasn’t registered against my phone number. I’ll never use this company again.

I really have gone off Chinese, won’t order it ever because it’s always greasy and not nice ! BUT decided to give it a whirl as it’s been on my doorstep for two years! I had the Cantonese king Prawn Sweet & Sour & it was lovely! The veg was crispy, the sauce wasn’t gloopy, the prawns were huge and plenty of them! It really was nice! Definitely use again & will definitely recommend!

I've used this takeaway for a few years, both deliveries and collections. I thought it was about time I wrote a review. I've never had a bad meal. Once the chilli in the beef in black bean sauce was too hot but generally the food is always hot when delivered and tasty. This evening I ordered food for 2, knowing the amount would be enough for 3 as my son can have an extra portion at lunchtime tomorrow for lunch. I ordered Yeung chow fried rice, which has plenty of diced pork and shrimps in, roast pork chow mein, large portion which had plenty of tender roast pork in and a portion of beef in oyster sauce which had plenty of soft tender beef and vegetables in. The meal arrived quickly on a cold evening, was piping hot, tasty sauces and was a thoroughly enjoyable meal. I probably only have a takeaway every 6 to 8 weeks but when I want chinese I use Shanghai Star and will continue to do so.

Shanghai star... This place doesn’t deserve any stars! You’re not fooling anyone we know those chicken balls aren’t chicken more like badger. First of all the batter is full of oil, tasted like it as well, the chicken is gristley and tastes like it’s been cooked in chemicals, left my mouth feeling sour, not the first bad experience I’ve had either from this place!

I have used Shanghai Star since it opened and was always pleased with the high standards of food, however, in my opinion the quality of the food over the last few months has dropped to a very poor standard, not to judge on perhaps one or two meals, Yesterday evening I ordered again the same meals hoping for some improvement but it was not to expectations again, poor quality rice, incorrect sweet & sour filling and very bland vegetables, therefore until I hear that there is some significant improvement I will be placing my orders elsewhere.

Used to use this Chinese all the time at one point but really started to go down hill, one night we had received a curry where the chicken was still pink! After that we went to oriental pearl. We decided to retry again the other day and again was disappointed. Chose to collect and the manager was shouting at her staff while they were cooking which I think is unacceptable especially in front of customers, the chips tasted like they had been reheated and were hard and the rice was disgusting and all stodgy 🤢 they only have a hygiene rating of 1 which I know the overall score can be affected by paperwork also but I don't think this is the case at all! Definitely never going back.

Wish I could vote less than one star, used to order from here for a long time then went else where as its closer. Coming past tonight we ordered chicken chow mein, egg fried rice, chips and a sauce each. BBQ and Sweet & Sour. Bbq sauce wasn't too BAD. Ate as I was hungry now regretting it, wish I just had beans on toast. Chow mein full of pepper and that's all you can taste, chips hard and tasteless, rice sticky and over cooked. Will not be coming here again. Won't be recommending to anyone unless they enjoy pepper and mush.

I’ve tried many takeaways around Telford and I must say this is the best. There’s a good choice of all the usual Chinese dishes. The crispy chicken in spicy sauce is particularly good. I usually phone in my order and the system they have means they know your name from the number you call from. Even when they are busy I’ve never phoned an order in and arrived and it not be ready. Impressive!

The food went very poor last year, we had a bad couple, so we stayed away, but just had the first one in a year, the lady on the phone was very plesent,(which is not like last time) and the food was brilliant, we all enjoyed it, family of 4.

Day 3 of my daughter and her partner being I'll. I had to 999 my daughter and her partner is under the doctor. They had nothing all day apart from this at 9.00pm. They ordered chilli chicken x2 and the egg fried rice. I am certain all of the reviews on here are fake. Food and hygiene rating of only 1 star says it all but when ordering off just eat you dont to get to see this rating. I have spoken to environmental health, hence being closed last night and now health and hygiene are involved. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE!!!

The best Chinese takeaway I know, but I tend to only have one of two dishes: Chicken in Kung Po Sauce or Chicken in Szechuan Sauce, both spicy hot. The Chicken in Kung Po Sauce is the best. The portions sizes are good and the food is cooked in an open plan kitchen where it is possible to have a peek at the cooking process, which is interesting, very much exactly what you might find in China or Hong Kong - I have been there, so authentic Chinese food definitely deserving 5 stars.

Ordered crispy beef, tasted like dog food. Everything has been pinged in the microwave not cooked from fresh. Chicken was so salty, and to top it off I had a very cold bit of chicken mid bite whixh I spat out straight away. Rank. The last time was a bit gross and I vowed not to order again (we had chicken balls, tasted super weird funky smell) but hunger striked needed something quick. £20 gone in the bin. Never again!

We ordered food for four people at the weekend. I have always rated this takeaway highly & on this occasion almost all the dishes were good again. Just one thing - The YUK SUNG meat was terrible, like mushed up baby food. Normally it is one of the best dishes but not this time, I have cooked far better myself. We might try another takeaway in the future, particularly as the owners do not appear to take notice of these reviews.

A load of my mates placed a £40 order with the Chinese, and were to be blunt, disgusted! We asked for delivery, which was told it would take 50 minutes. Our delivery was delayed by 40 minutes, meaning our food was so late! The food was horrid, which could be compared to sludge to be fair... I wouldn't go back to say the least. Horrid!
