Seven Stars Inn in Purbeck

Haven’t been for a long time. Decided to meet some family who were holidaying in the area and was not disappointed. Will definitely be back as food and service was on point. We had mixed grills which were advertised at 24oz and certainly met that with high quality well cooked meats. The chunky chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My wife said the lasagne was one of the best she has had. So whilst we haven’t been here for years l, we will be changing that to revisit again soon!

For two years now we have spent a week in Dorset for work purposes. We first went to the Seven Stars last year, at which point we went back 3 days in a row. Again, this year, 3 days it was. The staff are great, food it great and it is a must whenever we are in the area. The chefs Satay Chicken is highly recommended, as is everything else we have had to be honest.

Absolutely disgusting from the landlord/chef. I'm assuming that the chef sat at the bar was also the landlord, I may be wrong. The bar staff there were incredible, I cannot fault them at all, but when I was walking just near the bar just to have a look at some of the decor I heard chef/Landlord yell at one of the young girls to get and serve. This would have been fine if it were in a polite manner, but unfortunately it wasn't, it was extremely aggressive. BUT the worst part of this brief visit and the reason for the low star review is down to this said chef/landlord. While my wife, my 7 year old son and I, were in the bar area where he was also sat with his friends, on multiple occasions he was relaying a story to his drinking buddies at the bar when he was bragging about how he had an altercation with somebody. This story was extremely loud and used the F word and C word on so many occasions that I lost count. My wife and I aren't somebody who wouldn't choose to use these words and probably say them, in private, on a daily basis, but me as a gentleman would never dream of speaking like this with not only a child, but another lady within earshot. We had to leave this area, which then after making us feel furthermore unwelcome, we felt we had to leave the pub entirely. When paying £8.05 for a medium sized wine, I'd like to think we were paying for the privilege of a safe and welcoming environment. Not the case here. Appalling.

We have just had the most peaceful and quiet week in a try beautiful location. The accommodation and pub were absolutely first class. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and was a good base to enjoy Dorset from. Thank you to Steve and Gill for your hospitality.

This spot is perfect for a lovely casual meal. We stayed overnight on their campsite and had a meal in the pub. Staff were lovely, food was great value and campsite was basic but very clean facilities. Hot showers, toilets and EHU if required. Only 13mins from Durdle Door. Would come back here again

What a lovely meal was very filling and the puddings good beer and a range of gins too lovely pub been before and came back food fantastic we will be back again soon

Absolutely amazing food as always, proper home cooked roast with fresh vegetables and a good plate of meat. Never had a bad dinner here in over 30 years. The pub is well run and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Play park for the children, plenty of seating inside and out, definitely worth a visit. Have recommended to many friends over the years and regularly visit too!!

Staff were friendly, food was okay but nothing special. Play park was hazardous with rusty bits, broken bits, missing bits, uneven mats, a hole at the bottom of the slide and a random piece of wood under the slide with nails sticking out of it, looked like it should all be ripped out and replaced, not safe

Really can't understand how Chris could complain about this lovely pub. Amazing food, value for money, can't think how they can serve such huge portions and lovely food at such realistic prices. Great new menu just started this week.

Came with the family for Sunday roast. As usual the food was good and the portions were large. Would have liked to try the desserts as a good choice but was too full. Love the varied menu and always plenty of choice. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to come again and try the new menu.

Not sure if this pub has changed hands, food was fine and waitresses were pleasant. Previous years this place was value for money, quite large meals and always hard to get a table. Maybe the meal prices have pushed punters away to other pubs.

Got to be honest, when we arrived we were quite dubious as the pub looks a little tired. We decided to stay and had Sunday lunch and the food and service was absolutely lovely. Really couldn’t fault it at all. The kids had chicken nuggets which were really good too. So I would say to anyone ignore the outside go in and have a lovely meal with lovely staff.

Had a lovely visit. I had ham egg and chips which was superb. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The roaring fire with big sofas around it looked so cosy. I could have curled up with a book and spent all day there.

Went for lunch here as a Colleague had recommended it. Walked in to a very cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. Real log fire was in the process of being lit and a nice comfy sofa next it. We were told we could sit where we like so chose a nice spot in the main dining area. I ordered the monster mixed grill 48oz of meat plus potatoes of my choosing and veg/salad. My wife chose ham, egg and chips. Food was delivered in good time and service was polite and on point. My wife really enjoyed her meal and the portion was just right for her as she sometimes struggles to finish a meal. Now for mine. Well...I couldn't finish it, it is a monster mixed grill indeed. Sausages were lovely flavour and truly meaty. unfortunately I wasn't asked how I like my steak and it came well done whilst I normally have it blue rare. The liver was slightly over done for my liking but the rest of it was well prepared. The chips are on another level crisp, fluffy and beatuifully cooked. We both had some ice cream for dessert (ice cream has a dessert stomach), and was divine. All the food was reasonably priced for what we had i would go back (although maybe just a normal mixed grill next time).

Motorhome stopover,having seen the last review for this place we were a little worried,but nothing could be further from the truth,Gill the landlady was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble we ate on the Friday night and all 3 dishes were delicious with quality ingredients,we also booked breakfast which was equally good,we used the EHU for our motorhome and my brother had a shepherds hut which was fabulous and had easy access too clean showers and loo,any one looking for a stopover in Dorset,I would highly recommend

Very disappointing experience. Staff were lovely but the food was awful. Roast beef was out of a packet as was the vegetables. Even the burger was overcooked & the bun hard. Couldn’t have got this more wrong if they’d tried. I only ever give a review for exceptional experiences. On this occasion exceptionally bad! Sorry Seven Stars but only 1 star from me and that was for the waitress & bar staff. 👎

Had a lovely evening with my husband and family friend. We had dinner, dessert and coffee. It was a Monday evening, so it was quiet. The food was amazing, couldn't fault anything.

This occasion the food was awful worse food I've tasted in my life and that is a bold statement , me and my partner had something off the special board to be exact was haddock in white wine sauce with potatoes and whatever it was I ate wasn't a bit of haddock it was so salty and sickly , me and my partner both ate this and paid the bill out of ease we both mentioned thst it was awful and put it down to experience. This is a o e off as I've ate here before and was all OK. But this and the price was disgusting £18.50 per plate and a drink £43 now if it was half nice I wouldn't leave such a poor review.

We use to visit this pub when kids were younger. Older son visits regularly and suggested this location for his birthday meal on a Sunday as he loves their food. The roast was lovely and plentiful where three of us had three meats, and others enjoyed the Lasagne, burger and scampi meals. Drinks and replacements were served promptly. The staff were all lovely and attentive to our table. Great food, great price and perfect service. We all commented we must come back.

Best place to eat for miles, the food, as ever was fantastic we had the Christmas menu, the roast was perfect, puds were perfect, the staff are lovely, nothing was too much trouble they were friendly, helpful and delivered the best service as always, thank you all for such a lovely time

Don’t usually write reviews unless I’m really impressed but the service from all of the staff at this pub was outstanding and the food was amazing, very hearty and delicious. We had Sunday roast and it was lovely. Thank you to all of the staff at the seven stars!

We had a large family get together and had a lovely time. The staff were kind, relaxed and patient with us. At no point were we rushed. Huge menu choice with many interesting specials. The food was very tasty and you could tell a lot of attention had been put into each dish. My daughter commented that her steak pie tasted as good as the fabled one made by her 97 year old granny which no-one has ever replicated. Portions were huge and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was cosy and relaxed and attention to detail was as it used to be i.e the request for water on the table was answered with two large jugs of iced water with enough large glasses for everyone - no problem. Walked in for Sunday roast but we hadn't reserved. They still seated us with the choice of bar, restaurant or conservatory area and served us fast after orders were taken. Very nice dinners, tender beef and perfect roast potatoes.

Me & my partner came here for our anniversary Dinner… we had to push back our reservation, that was dealt with effortlessly & without any problems… on arrival the feel in the pub was lovely, husband & wife owners are lovely, really friendly & chatty. The drinks were baught over really quickly, the starter & main were also baught to the table very promptly… The food was absolutely delicious, probably the best food we have both eaten. The setting is stunning, and so peaceful, there is also a park area for the kids, and a lot of outside space. All the staff were friendly, & chatty & the waitress/waiters went out their way to make sure we were happy & enjoying food. We asked to thank the chef he too was very friendly & clearly very very good at his job… Can’t rate this place any more, found a Gem with seven stars & will definitely be returning.

Brilliant pub excellent service gorgeous dinner . Stayed in a gorgeous shepherd's hut which included a lovely home cooked full English highly recommend

We have been to this pub for many many years and it still offers good food for every taste bud. All of our meals were of good standard but I think they need a menu refresh as it’s been the same for about 20 if not more years . Less choice and more quality is needed which I’m sure would make life a lot easier for the chef. If you have a dog you need to book a table in the bar as they are not allowed in the restaurant. Great for young kids as they have a lovely playground.

Waitress gave me great advice on the specials board (satay chicken hot & spicy) was absolutely amazing , totally recommend, so good!!! Definately be back again very soon , also such a freindly atmosphere,

The Pub itself is excellent the food and service could not be faulted. Its a great place to stay as long as you don't mind listening to the Train Horns every half hour throughout the day till midnight. And then they started again at 6.23....

We stay at caravan site nearby & visit frequently during season. Went tonight without booking, 2 people & a dog...gave us table for 4 (with space for dog under). Great service, friendly & efficient staff...excellent food. Refreshing to find good fish dishes, locally sourced...my Portkand...

Management unfriendly/hostile almost. (felt sorry for the waiting staff as we witnessed his abruptness with them also). The vegetarian lasagne was cheesey Mush.

Pre-booked for this evening but only about a dozen people.in the restaurant. We were sat at a small table for two but as the restaurant was nearly empty would have preferred it if they had put us on a bigger table.Staff were all very friendly,attentive and polite. Food was excellent tasty and served piping hot. Portion sizes were generous and all reasonably priced. Would definitely return.

Awful. We were a table of 6 with 6 dogs and we had been shoved in a tiny corner and into a space designed for 3 people and a chihuahua. Staff were totally unhelpful - several were *sitting* at tables and cleaning mats/tables (after several years in hospitality management roles, this isn’t how staff should behave on shift!) and no one offered to help or assist us. In the end, myself and my husband had to leave because we felt so uncomfortable and there was so little room. My sister and her friends stayed for food and when we asked how it was, they said “awful.” Won’t be returning that’s for sure.

Came here for a family meal, when arriving service was okay, some food was really nice others such as the mixed grill and cheesey garlic bread were horrible. All staff were stood around the bar talking and we felt like we were ignored. We had to constantly try to get their attention. Pretty sure the staff didn’t want to be there.. they were more interested in their phones and chatting. So for 2 x adult meals, 2 x kids meals and 1 x drink (kids were included in their meal) it came to £60. Really disappointed with it all, i tried to inform them of the issues we had but had a don’t care attitude. This is a local to us and its a shame to say we wont be coming back.

Food was excellent, service was fantastic and it was generally a nice place to eat out as a family! The food was not too expensive for what you got and had a nice range of things to eat.

We had pre-booked a table here prior to our stay in nearby Wool. Pub looks really big as you drive up. We were seated in the conservatory, which I did think needed a bit of a face lift but that’s personal choice. It was also very chilly as the doors were open. The service was good. The game pie was delicious as were the other meals the rest of the family had. I would recommend for the food.

We had a really lovely meal here on a Friday night for my brother's birthday. The food was delicious, the service was speedy and polite and there are lots of options on the menu, including a specials board. The portion sizes are very generous and the food was great quality. We would love it if there were more areas inside that allowed dogs but we understand that's not always easy!

We stayed in one of the Shepard’s huts behind this place, the lady who runs the campsite was lovely and the hut was clean and pleasant. Sadly we had not been aware that the toilets were in a block nearby and the smell of the communal toilets was not nice. We only went to the pub once to ask for a bottle opener and the landlord was so rude to my other half, she did not want to go back in. A grumpy rude bully of a man who should do anything other than hospitality. We decided not to eat breakfast in the pub because of this, and would not go back. Sad because the landlady was charming and welcoming. Maybe he should retire..

Extensive food menu with excellent selection of real ales and ciders kept well. Fast and efficient service, friendly and helpful

Stayed here for 2 nights and had an absolutely wonderful time. Spotlessly clean, welcoming and dog friendly. Jill and her team are fantastic. Breakfast served by the lovely Kathy is superb! and dinner at the pub was gorgeous. If I could give more than 10 out of 10 I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND

We had a very nice lunch at the Seven Stars - booked a table for 3 of us, we all had different meals and they were all cooked beautifully and tasted lovely. Well done Seven Stars we will be back soon.

Food appalling and Manager/owners attitude was even worse!! As a family of 8, 3 starters were awful and bland which were sent back and 5 main meals were sent back as inedible, would definitely not recommend! The menu is far too big for what they can cope with and Ingredients for the food were very cheap and below standard. Feel sorry for the waiting staff as we were not the only table to complain but they were still very polite.Establishment could do with a damn good clean to remove the cobwebs and dead flies, Gordon Ramsey would certainly have a field day here!!

We are a family of four adults and visited this pub during our holiday.We first visited on a quiet week day and the service was friendly and the food was average pub food, we were fine with this.We next visited on a busy Friday evening and found the service was not as good and the food was not as good either.One of us ordered the Tagliatelle but what came was Spaghetti floating on a liquid base.We will try here again next time we are here but will go on a quiet evening.

Food was great. Nicely presented. Nice choice to suit a family. Staff friendly. Nice little play area for the children. Resident dog walks about and greats you. Been there a few times for a meal. It’s been to cold to sit outside. If you want to sit inside your better off booking a table.

We went out to meet people from our car club (who we had not met before) and were seated on a 10 seater table. There were 8 of us sat together, which we were surprised at in these covid times. We were shown to our seats in the conservatory, but were not offered any drinks on being seated. We had to wait a good 10 minutes before a staff member arrived to take our food order and did not offer us any drinks, so the wife had to ask for drinks too. Whilst waiting for our food, I noticed that the place could do with a good clean. There were ice-cream drips down the side of the table and the the ceiling looked gungy . I think the meal was overpriced at £12.50 for a roast dinner with an overcooked yorkshire pudding and the service was very slow. The wifes pint of orange juice and lemonade was £5, which is a shocking price for a soft drink. It was very disappointing and we will not be going back again

Good location (walking distance) from our holiday cottage, this is the best bit. Premises looking shabby inside, could do with a bit of TLC. The waitress sat us in the conservatory, after trying to seat us at a tiny table in a walk way. Conservatory roof very grubby, needs a jolly good clean. We were not offered drinks when we were seated, nor were we offered a wine menu, we had to wait a good 10 minutes before anyone came back to take a drinks order and then we had to ask for a wine list. Good selection of food but typical pub grub menu and I suspect most of it is cooked from frozen. Service was very slow all evening and waiting staff had no or very minimal training. One waiter actually tucked the cloth he used to carry the food dishes out with under his armpit! We decided not to stay for dessert or coffee as nobody could be bothered to come and take our order. On our way out the chef (proprietor ?) asked us how our evening was and when we mentioned the poor service he subjected us to a tale of woe on how his experienced staff has up and left after lock down ended. We would highly recommend where we stayed but would also recommend that people did not eat here.

We visited the Severn stars for a family birthday meal .We were greeted with warmth and great humour.The landlord and his wife went over and above with their hospitality and personal service.The food was exceptional and we highly recommend a visit.Thank you for a great day.Peter Lambert.

We live in Weymouth and visit the Seven stars whenever we can.We love this family run place .We were thrilled to be able to go for my Birthday 22,5,2021 As usual we had a beautiful meal my family loved it .They’ve only been open a week since Covid yet the standards are fantastic as usual Thankyou Steve & Gill it was fab to see you guysSee you in a couple of weeks.Steph & Colin Xx

We ate here while staying one night in the camp site behind the pub (very convenient for Monkey World and the Tank Museum). Note if approaching in motorhome or caravan, you may want to avoid the country lane coming from the South as it is quite narrow, and we had to reverse to passing places a few times.The pub is very large with plenty of seating, but does not feel like a huge barn as it is sub-divided into areas. We had the Cloudy Apple cider which was alright, and then for starters we had Breaded Whitebait and Goats Cheese with Beetroot, both of which were good (approx £7 each, I think). For main course we both had the trout with prawns (£15), which was amazing, and they were very good about doing mine without garlic. To finish we shared a slice of chocolate orange cheesecake, which was big enough to share, and they were great about bringing it with two spoons.All in all, good food, helpful staff, and the most delicious trout!

Wow what a place great food good beer atmosphere good service great no complaints a must if you are staying at Warmwell holiday park or nearby . do not miss this gem of a place will definately go back when in Dorset

I visited here when on holiday with family and they were very helpful and yes we were a very big family of 12 but they made the effort to accommodate us all the food was great and so was the delicious desserts on offer.

We found this pub whilst staying in Dorset and couldnt fault it all! Big, Clean, adhering to the covid rules, wide food range on the menu and the food was very tasty and in good portions. Lastly, friendly staff which always makes the atmosphere better

Stayed at the seven stars in one of there lovely Shepherds huts for my Wedding Anniversary it was a great weeken there Gill was a wonderful host very helpful and friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The breakfast in the mornings was delicious and set us up for the day. We had a meal in the evening on one night of our stay and the staff was very friendly and couldn’t fault the wonderful food good value for money and good size portion. Will definitely be recommending to my family & friends and will be returning again soon. Thank you Gill, Steve and all the staff at the Seven Stars for a Wonderful Weekend.

I have lived in Poole all of my life, and have visited over the years many pubs in and around Dorset. For some reason this particular Pub had escaped me until last Sunday.I have to say our lunch was first class, and the staff were all happy smiling and attentive. Definitely recommend and for sure we will be returning.
