Excellent food at excellent prices.

Our first time in this restaurant and initial impressions were very good. Small inside but adequate space around the tables and the bar and restaurant area looked very modern & tidy. We were a booking of 4. Nice selection on the menu and a "specials" to choose from too. Not the cheapest restaurant we've ever visited but we don't mind paying for quality. We ordered starters and mains initially. My starter was King Prawn & mushrooms with chilli, off the specials menu. It was tasty, a decent kick from the chilli too, but I found the prawns quite chewy! Also, would of preferred the sauce/liquor they were served in to be thicker. It was the consistency of a very thin soup! Main course for me & the Mrs was a Mix Greek for 2 people at £36. It consists of Greek Gyros, chicken & pork, chicken skewer, pork sausage, with tzatziki pita bread, tomatoes & onions. We both chose what were described as 'fat chips' as our accompaniment. We had to wait a while for the main, but as it was all going to be cooked fresh, we didn't mind. When it did arrive however, the spread (annoyingly served on a large wooden chopping board rather than a plate) did look impressive, so we tucked in eagerly. We had to ask for side plates too, as the serving board was sat in between us and it was awkward to both eat from this! However, the meat was tasty and well cooked, the onions and tomatoes were well, onions & tomatoes, nothing special about them and the pita bread I found uninspiring! However, the worst thing on the plate, served in tiny baskets were the chips!! The 'fat chips' were not even, homemade (real) chips, they were, in my opinionfreezer chips! Something I could have probably got myself from Iceland!! 🤦🏽‍♂️ We found them really disappointing to be honest in an establishment that is trying to be different with its Mediterranean style menu, you have to make every morsel special! The other 2 members of our party had a various selection off the menu and they seemed pleased with what they had. We were generally pleased also to be fair, but if the few niggles above could be eliminated we would of awarded close to top marks. I mean, its not the cheapest around, but its one of those places you should try for yourself! For dessert, I tried the pistachio cheesecake and this did in some way make up for the poor chips.... Delicious! When the bill arrived it was £160 for the 4 of us... That's 4 starters, 4 mains, a garlic bread (which, by the way was overdone & dried up too), two bottles of Pinot Grigio white wine and 2 pints of Peroni. Like I said, not the cheapest and with some niggles to iron out. Not perfect but a decent effort. Maybe, for now, just a 7 out of 10 from us! 👍🏽

what an absolute gem of a place this is. we are visiting the area for an exhibition and found this little restaurant on google, so so glad we did, very attentive staff, fantastic food, great value, would recommend to anyone, thank you to all the staff,

Brilliant little restaurant with a good range of Greek/Italian cuisine. Lovely atmosphere, staff always more than happy to help. Been quite a few times now and will come back many more.

Great family run restaurant. It's slightly off the beaten track but worth tracking down for its delicious home cooked food and excellent service. Lasagna was rich, perfectly seasoned and presented. But the Pistachio Tiramisu was the highlight - light and creamy with the crushed pistachio providing a nutty crunchy bite - lovely. Decour is simple and unfussy allowing the food and sevice to do all the talking.

Love it here. Great staff and food. Good atmosphere.

16/04/2024 Time for another review. I've lost count how many times I've been to this fresh, family run, restaurant. I cannot fault it. It is fantastic. Food, service (Jack, aka Ed Sheeran), ambience, Nico and Irina, husband and wife, (who is cooking tonight)? You just cannot beat this tucked away hidden gem of a restaurant. If it's not on the menu, ask, and I promise they will bend over backwards to accommodate your request. We have to support local businesses and not the chain conglomerates. Spread your wealth/cash. You will not be disappointed. I promise. Keep it up guys. 💜 Last minute booking tonight 1/6/23. Absolutely delicious. Service was informative, discreet and superb. It was quiet at 6.00pm but that added to the ambiance. Nice background music. Darwen little gem. Pick-up takeaway tonight pork gyros pitta tonight. Sublime. On arrival a table booked for 5 was set for 6. Restaurant was nearly full. A very cold night. Log burner not lit. It didn't feel inviting. Only member of staff so far is dressed as a commis chef. 1/2 pint lager served in a  tumbler and a pint of Perroni in a Budweiser tankard? Disconcerting? There was no specials board. No Greek food. Gyros, Lamb kleftico, beef stifado? Where were they? No wine list on table, we had to ask for one. Lovely Shiraz which was opened and poured at the table. Nice touch these days. We decided on mains only due to what we deemed to be as lack of staff. Wrong. All but the overcooked pizza was delicious which was replaced. I had to ask for parmesan for my carbonnara. The log burner fire was eventually lit but with smoke and fumes which was not nice. Thankfully before our food arrived.  Sample desserts were served. Probably because the restaurant was nearly empty by now? They were delicious. We have already booked for next month. It turned out to be a very enjoyable experience from this husband and wife team.

I came for a meal and unfortunately 3 out of the 4 of us ended up poorly some with upset tummy and 2 where sick. Pretty sad as i loved the meal. I would go again but order something less rich and no fish

Good food, well catered to for a group of 26 celebrating a birthday. Not the biggest of restaurants but the atmosphere, service and food was good. 🙂

The one thing you need to know about this place is that the wait time for food is longer than you will expect, especially if there are other tables in. It took 30 mins for starters and 45 mins for mains. But if you manage to survive the wait the food honestly is incredible, I can't deny that its perfect food, Darwens little gold mine, really. me and my partner have been here about 4 times now, it is just brilliant. i would recommend to anyone who wants great value, great atmosphere and brilliant italian food.

Me and my best friend were due to have a lovely game of badminton on this crisp Sunday morning, however as i awoke and put on my grippiest trainers I received a message that completely changed my Sunday morning forever. “I cant come i have food poisoning “ of course this was to my disappointment. I haven’t tried this restaurant yet but its safe to say i will be steering clear of the lobster ravioli.

The food was great along with the service. The room is small and I found it noisy.

Really nice food the staff are always polite and on hand but never over bearing.its been miserable outside the 3 times we have been and the cozy atmosphere is inviting especially the table next to the fire. The complimentary starters are always beautiful and the chef has always nipped in during eating with a smile and “hello how is your food” .Its a great touch and shows they actually care that you enjoy the food they make.definitely worth a visit

The food and ambience is amazing. There was some soft music playing in the back. The wine selection was pretty good too. It was well visited for a Wednesday night, so I do recommend to call ahead.

You will absolutely not be disappointed with the quality of food at Secreto, if you can get a table. Probably the best meal at this price point that I've had in a long time. The Gyros and King Prawns I can't recommend enough. Friendly and attentive staff who know the menu well - never overbearing, but always on hand.

Came for dinner in a large group tonight and it was 10/10. The food is genuinely the best food in Darwen at the moment. It was all super fresh ingredients and made from scratch. The quality of the ingredients is great (Steak & Prawns amazing!) The service is fantastic, couldn’t do enough for you and gave us a complimentary dessert as we were celebrating. Please visit and hope this restaurant lasts!!

We went on Saturday evening as a party of 8, ages ranging from 8 to 74. The food was absolutely delicious - so fresh and bursting with flavour. The staff are all lovely and the overall atmosphere is really chilled and warm. We are so lucky to have such a good foodie place in Darwen - this was our first visit, but it certainly won’t be our last!

Love this place. Love the food. Service isn’t always on point but the staff are always really friendly. We are regulars and wouldn’t go anywhere else for Italian/Greek. Everything I have had has been excellent. I have had fillet steak several times, medium rare and it’s perfect every time. Best part, it’s a 5 minute walk from my house. 😀

Went for fathers day, restaurant had a lovely family feel and the atmosphere was calm but vibrant! Food was 10/10, definitely a new favourite.

Love love this place. They opened up the restaurant at lunch time for us to celebrate my stepson’s birthday. All the dishes we ordered were gorgeous, so as the staff serving us were kind and accommodating.. can’t recommend this place enough. We’ll definitely be dining here again.

We thoroughly enjoyed it at Secreto. A lovely ambiance, excellent service from the two young men, the food was cooked well, and very good value. It's the kind of local little restaurant, you find in Italy or Spain, but sadly not England. I wish it was local to me. We shall return.

A little expensive and small portions, but very good quality food and excellent service..

We waited ages for someone to take our food order. The square tables were far too small. I had to remove menus and far too big salt and pepper pots to make space. Garlic bread served burnt black at one side. They covered it up with the other half. Was sitting down 1 hour and 10 minutes and we had only eaten the first course ( burnt). When my Lasagne arrived, it too was burnt badly and crispy. (Lasagne?) A young man waiter kept filling up the wood burner. We asked if he washed his hands. He said he did but we never saw it. After making a complaint about the burnt food, an elderly man came to the table and offered to reduce our bill which we accepted. However we will not recommend or return.

On the evening of our visit, there was a large group which meant our food took a little longer than we would have expected but the staff were proactive and gave us some appetisers free while we waited. I had the pate to start, it was ok, nothing special, not quite enough bread. I had the seafood pasta for main, again it was fine, the sauce could have been slightly looser as it tasted a little over reduced but the other meals all looked nice and we had no complaints from the others. I also had a large glass of house red (I know, with fish) which 2as very nice and good value. Nothing majorly wrong with it, but personally slightly disappointed as i could have done it better at home and when you (I) go out, I expect something better than I can knock up myself. Having said all that, I would go again but probably have pizza next time.

Lovely place to enjoy a meal and well worth a visit

The tastiest, cutest restaurant in Darwen. Lovely ambiance, friendly staff and a menu to die for. The mussels are in a sauce I think is the best I have tasted. The pastas are delicious. Thoroughly recommended, even very reasonable in price. Our family Christmas meal was outstanding.

Heard a lot of good things about Secreto and we couldn't fault the service, couldn't fault the food and a lovely intimate homely atmosphere was exceptional.

Food is amazing and they did very well accommodating me (Vegan). Service was good. It is a very pretty place however it is very cold. Most of us ate with our scarves or coats on. Such a shame and I really hope they address this. I would only visit in the summer.

Very cosy and delightful little restaurant. Upon arrival we were greeted, had a little giggle over the 'early' Christmas decorations and was shown to our table. We were served with drinks quickly while waiting for the rest of our party to turn up. Seating by a cosy warm real fire place with soft music in the background was nice. There was complimentary olives and condiments at the start. I actually ate more olives than i ever have in one sitting as i dont like them (I'd like to like them!) but these were ok. Had the chicken liver patè for starters. Really nice, but as with most places the patè to bread ratio wasn't right so we asked for a little more bread. (Hate wasting delicious patè). My main was the Lasagne, which I really enjoyed. Nice crisp cheese topping and tasty right the way through. Topped with parmesan cheese (by the chef) a little unusual as normally the server asks if you would like parmesan but here they just seem to add it without asking. The wife ordered a steak medium rare, now I'm a chefs nightmare 'well done burn the edges' kind of chap so the sight of this medium rare was traumatic for me at best. Nevertheless wifey had some of the steak but left the majority of it. It may have been too rare for her taste (and didnt want to admit it) but she said she just wasn't enjoying it, something about the texture. She didn't raise it with the server so I just told her that's what you get for ordering it like that 😏. Dessert I had the profiteroles which was 3 large, fresh filled rolled that I popped in one at a time. I definitely had my fill and left stuffed..! For 4 of us, 3 beers, 2 soft drinks, 3 starters, 4 mains (Inc 2 steaks), and 3 Deserts it came to about £137, so £35 a head which we thought was reasonable. Thanks guys! See you again!

Lovely atmosphere and food and something different.

Ate here last night with my two adult kids that really appreciate amazing food and they were blown away with the food, atmosphere, and staff . Returned tonight with friends snd well….. what can I say ? This is the best restaurant I have eaten in and I have travelled the world and eaten in lot of restaurants Fantastic

A small cosy restaurant. Food is delicious, Staff are excellent. It was very busy when we arrived at 7pm but soon became a calm place to eat. Really enjoyed our visit and definitely recommend Secreto.

A bit disappointed after reading all the positive reviews.... Lots of items on the menu and specials not available, beer was flat ( I understand places have dispense issues just explain and offer me a bottle!) Our food was ok but nothing spectacular. And my pet hate in any restaurant is supermarket wines at restaurant prices! £19 for a bottle I know you can pick up for £5/£6/£7. Surely there are some wine merchants / drinks companies who can supply a decent wine at a decent price that you don't see in Bargin Booze! All that being said the place is super cosy and the staff really friendly, I actually felt quite sorry for them with the issues they were having.

Really good mediterranean menu, and a nice specials board. Food was excellent and we weren't rushed throughout our meal. Complimentary nibbles, starters and mains were all delicious. (We didn't sample the desserts). If you want a taste of Mediterranean holidays, give this place a visit.

Took my mum/dad for a nice meal here the food was cooked to perfection and very tasty. Nice chilled atmosphere and Quant little place with friendly staff will definitely back coming back. Five stars and well deserved.

This is a really super restaurant run by a lovely family. The Calamari was melt -in -the mouth , some of the best I've had. Everything was freshly prepared and cooked so you could taste all the ingredients on the pasta rather than a single monochrome flavour. Even the bread was homemade. There's a good range of Italian & Greek food on the menu , I'll be back to taste some more.

Beautiful family run Greek/Italian restaurant,serving superb food,very delicious.The staff are very friendly and attentive and the restaurant has a warm homely feeling with good atmosphere.We have been twice and will be going again soon. Already looking forward to the next visit. The food,dessert and drinks menu is excellent.The restaurant also offers good selection of vegetarian starters and main dishes. Highly recommend a visit to this excellent little Gem. Many thanks to the owners and all the staff at Secreto for the great service.

Absolutely amazing, went for a birthday treat with my partner and toddler. Toddler has allergies and they were great at accomodating and checking ingredients for us. Customer service was great and the food was something else, packed with flavour, meats were so tender and tasty will definitely coming back, thank you so much for a lovely evening!

Visited the week of opening with a friend. The cosy restaurant is beautifuuly decorated & furnished and the heated seats are much welcomed too. The food... just wow! The freshest pasta we have ever tasted. Prices are especially fair and the service spot on (not too attentive, but not too avaoidant... just right).

This beautiful Italian & Greek restaurant is situated just out of the town centre, we visited on a Saturday night and absolutely loved it. We thought the menu was a good size and the food drink was delicious! The service too is spot on. We'll be returning here a lot.
