Best food in the Borders

A lovely quiet restaurant with amazing food and service. We ate the smoked salmon starter (which was quite simply the best I have ever eaten); this was followed by the lamb, and beef wellington - both of which were incredibly tasty. We had sides of green beans and cauliflower cheese and soda bread. All in all a super deliciously good place to eat.

I lived in the Borders on an off for a few years and Seasons was the best restaurant I ate at during that time. I was continual astounded by the quality of food served and hospitality provided by the small team there. Sadly I don't live in the Borders anymore but it would be a must stop if I were back in the area.

We were stopping in the area of Melrose and found this restaurant on our first night. What a find! Absolutely amazing food. Everything was cooked fresh and homemade. The service as good as the food. Can't recommend Seasons restaurant enough. The only fault is they only open Friday and Saturday. 100% recommend 100% delicious 😋

Excellent seasonal fare from lovely proprietors. Unfussy local whole foods made even better by a skilled chef. The in-house smoked salmon was the best I’ve ever had. Service was impeccable but relaxed. A very memorable experience in the borderlands!

Another very enjoyable meal at Seasons today with a straight 10 for each of our 3 lunch courses. The in-house smoked salmon was top notch, and their own rum infused version of the traditional sticky toffee pudding was outstanding.

Used the At Home Service. Food was gorgeous - rich flavours and melt in the mouth textures. We had the salmon wellington, dauphinoise potatoes, and raspberry cheesecake. Will use this service again.

I apologize for my English. My review will be divided into +/- The cuisine is just incredible. We tried steak, fish and chicken. Serving, taste, on top, thank you. What I didn't like was where we sat, we sat between the refrigerators and the shelves of the store. We wanted to sit with people in a large hall. This diminished our impressions a bit. I didn't understand the cheese plate, I expected Scottish cheeses, but there were parmesan and brie on the plate, I didn't know they were made in Scotland. I was expecting local cheeses. Dessert: we tried panacotta, unfortunately, neither the consistency nor the taste was impressive. The service was very polite and pleasant. Thanks

This was an excellent meal for us both on all accounts. The side bread was very nice with unsalted butter. I had the trio of salmon that had thicker than normal slices of hot and cold smoked salmon plus a salmon pate. My wife had the pork terrine with pickled figs. For mains I had Roe Deer cooked perfectly to my liking and my wife had chicken breast with a little chicken pie, kale and mashed potatoes. We were too full for dessert.

Look for reviews of Seasons and you'll generally find they're all good. So naturally we were both excited to try it. Starter. I had the scallops, with black pudding & bacon. Served on a wobbly large shell which makes cutting them awkward, the scallops were lukewarm, didn't taste like they'd been seasoned and were not seared, as one might expect. After my initial bite, I was somewhat wary of continuing. Very disappointing. And sitting atop a tiny amount of crumbled black pudding and tiny little pieces of bacon. Had I not known what they were I may have struggled to identify them. These were sitting in a small pool of darkish liquid in the base of the shell. My partner had the Pickled Pear with walnuts & blue cheese. Whilst the pear was tasty there wasn't almost no blue cheese with it. Not a great start but perhaps the mains would make up for it, I tried to reassure my partner. Main Course. I ordered the Fillet Steak. "How would you like it cooked?". "Medium". "Medium rare or medium well?". I sat somewhat dumbfounded. Medium is medium! The alarm bells were well and truly ringing at this point. Sadly, my concerns were realised. What arrived was well done. Not even remotely medium. And whilst edible it certainly wasn't enjoyable. I've enjoyed many great beef fillets over the years. This most certainly wasn't joining the list. It wasn't seared and didn't taste like it had been seasoned. Served with small drizzle of garlic butter that didn't really taste of garlic, spinach leaves that were past their prime and a dollop of Mushroom Ketchup. What is that I hear you ask? It's a dark blob of an unidentifiable, course substance that doesn't really taste of mushroom. My partner had the cod, served with linguine. She said it was tasty enough. I tried a little. It was overcooked. At this point we decided it would be unwise to risk desserts. All in all, I'm extremely disappointed by our experience at Seasons. It has a lot going for it. Good location in the centre of the village. Nice looking place, rustic décor, somewhere you'd be happy to spend a few hours. Delightful owners and friendly, helpful staff. But alas the most important aspect is lacking. There is literally nothing in the food we received to recommend this restaurant.

We were both disappointed with the food given the very high reviews. The chips were good, the starters and mains were let downs. We didn’t opt for dessert. Nice staff and ambience, but sadly we wouldn’t return.

We had our first meal in the Melrose area in Seasons and it was excellent. The quality of produce in the food was first class. The delivery, both in terms of service and our meal, were fabulous. The choice of wine is good and the quality is high. Very well worth a visit if you are in the area.

4 of us enjoyed a lovely dinner. Food was well cooked and beautifully presented by chef/owner Roger. Good selection of wines at reasonable prices. Advise following the wine recommendations on the blackboard, particularly for dessert. Was persuaded by the lovely waitress, Bea to try a sherry with my chocolate dessert - and it was a superb choice! We'll definitely be back !!

Lovely Sunday evening meal at Seasons, we were the only couple in on a damp wet evening. Service was fantastic and the food amazing. Steak was cooked perfectly with satisfyingly crunchy chips and a moreish sauce. The cheese board was the best I've had for a long time. Will be very tempted to go back the next time I'm down that way.

Almost four years since our first visit (to the then ‘Chapters’) and after tonight’s deliciously fresh, imaginative (and generously catering for my no dairy, no red meat diet with no fuss) and wholesome meal - it definitely won’t take another four years before we return. 10/10, a real gem of the Borders. ps to start we had fish plate to share (trio of crab in vodka bloody mary mayo, smoked salmon, mackerel pate served with homemade oatcakes, sourdough bread and the finest local rapeseed oil), followed by roast cod, scallops and brown shrimps served on homemade tagliatele with leaks and caviar (AMAZING!), whilst Aneela loved her butternut squash gnocchi on a homemade pesto & nut sauce.

A small place located in the very center of the town, right next to a paid parking lot, a public toilet and a small port. Tasty and fresh food. I recommend the burgers. Very nice and friendly service despite the huge traffic. The place is clean and well-kept. A bit too little covered seating, which can be experienced during rapidly changing weather. Reasonable prices for good food. A big disadvantage is closing the premises too early. Remember this if you are planning an evening dinner. I will probably come back here many times, I recommend this place and I would like to thank the staff for the nice, helpful and friendly service.

What a beautiful setting with a wonderful experience. From the moment we entered, we felt welcomed. Leigh was so helpful with gathering information regarding the Park and Ride facilities. Liam was an excellent server and so attentive. Mr. Cross, the owner, was so kind to greet us and welcome us during the evening meal. It was a wonderful start to our Scotland vacation.
