Excellent cod and chips at a good price. All cooked fresh, haddock is wonderful

Often great but sometimes awful, tonight was one of those, chips cold and hard, fish dry, probably should have returned them but after walking home n sitting down was too much effort. Real shame as when good is very good, but waste of money tonight n most went in bin ☹️

You'll have to travel a long way to match this chippy!!! Always quality clean chips from frequent fat changing, minimal scrappy slither ends in the portions due to the large basket hole dimensions. Been my regular for 20 years and never had an over cooked fish. Testament to a True chippy when you can request breadcrumed fish instead of batter. Reason being it taints the fat.

This place has gone way downhill the past 6 month think it's got new owners or something but quality is no where near as good as it used to be. Chips are super greasy and not very well cooked. been going here for 30 years such a shame

Go nearly every saturday for my dad who says best fish around, thick and very tasty! Staff lovely hard working and friendly!

Service was quick. The batter was crisp and not soggy. The fish was fresh and the chips perfect.

Used to be good on a dinner time for the specials. The prices have went right up. And quality and portion size down 5£ for a 4 tiny fish bites 50p size and they say a splash of gravey the chips don't even get wet

Used to go all of the time [weekly at one point] but haven't been for months now because the last two times beforehand, I've found a hair in my food. Think I may try somewhere else which is local.

Fish and chips doesn't get much better than this. Crisp batter, chips squidgy hot and crisp. Last night's cod was huge. With the chips and a tub of mushy peas it was fantastic. The only downside? It left me so full I could only manage 2 pints in the pub. I used to rate the one in Seaton sluice higher - think seashells is now better.

First time we’ve been in years (not living very near any more). Good staff, quick service and in particular excellent chips.

Would have gave no stars if possible! Paid a very expensive £7.40 to buy my student daughter chicken nuggets and chips with curry sauce, in the hope that she could enjoy a nice meal from her home town when she visited us from university this afternoon. How wrong I was to think it! She couldn’t eat it as it was so inedible! The chicken nuggets were dry and overcooked, and even our pet dog who loves chicken, turned his nose up at them when offered! She gave me a couple of the chips to try and they were the worst I have ever tasted! Dry, over cooked and had a disgusting burnt flavour. The curry sauce was like thick glup! Not nice at all! I would have complained as we were so disappointed that she had to return to university hungry, especially after spending all that, but I’ve had to complain here in the past when she got a hair in her meal, and they do not take very kindly to criticism in that shop and make you feel like you’re somehow to blame! Won’t buy from here again! We’re not fuss pots but this was by far the worst meal from any chip shop we’ve visited!

Had half chicken and chips, the chicken was beautiful and the chips were perfect. Chicken burger which was also lovely and 2 portions of chicken strips which were also cooked perfectly. Best chips shop since a long time.

Fish is full of bones thought it was standard to have boneless fish?. Grew up in Whitley Bay seems to have never changed. Unless it’s changed in the past 10 years or so since I last went?.

This is the best chippy around. If you are anywhere near the beach and want fish and chips, it is well worth going a few minutes down the road to this chippy and getting a good portion and good quality meal, proper chips!!!!! None of this over priced tiny portions of oven chips you get on the see front. This is one of few proper chippys left in the North East and if you haven't been you need to go ASAP!!!!!!

We have been going to Seashell chip shop for years, however over the past year, the quality of the chips has declined. We called their tonight and to be totally honest, they were the worst chips we have ever had, seagulls fodder at St Mary’s lighthouse 🤬 time to move on 🥲

If you don't know about Seashell's by now it's probably too late for you. You'll just have to join the queue of those of us who know.

Food was beautiful red hot. I would like say best chippy around. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Apart from one I phone to place big order. How rude this lady was . Not helpful at all. Such shame as for years I used this chip shop . For home and work. They had 20 orders off me at one time. Some of my residents heard how rude she was and they said they will never use this chip shop again What shame one person is doing this to the business. But well'done to the rest of the staff for beautiful food and service xx

Sensational chips from this little gem in Monkseaton. Great chips and loads of vinegar and salt. Chips covered with batter and the chips were fantastic! Well worth a visit!!

Nice chippy but can be hit or miss, staff not very friendly though, really don't look happy working there which is always a worry!

Ordered 3 haddock and chips tonight with curry and mushy peas .£36 with drinks . Got home to have a nice meal , but were soaked in fat were so greasy really were not nice Also the lady that served me were so miserable who served us and no people skills what's so ever .

Overcharged for Cod Bites and Chips as they added an extra £10 onto my order for no reason and I only found out once I check my bank account at home, extremely greasy food with very little fish and chips tasted fake somehow! service was extremely poor too, I will make sure to not be coming back here ever again

Gone down hill . Really disappointed total waste of money. £15.40 for fish bite and chips and sausage and chips . Fish bites were cold and like rubber. Chips weren’t nice either.

Chip stottie with sauce is delicious. Perfect comfort food. Big portion too. Also the steak pie is delicious. Big pieces of steak. And looks homemade so if you want to wow your family with your "homemade" steak pies then go there

Went at the end of the night as the fryers had been turned off. Staff were nice and friendly and food was delicious. Healthy portion sizes with plenty to spare. Only downfall is the batter was too thick on the fish!

My fish & chip shop of choice in the area. I don’t think I’ve had a bad meal from there. Fish is usually always cooked to order, rather than sitting waiting to be bought. Portion sizes are very generous too.

Food always OK but miserable staff

Quality fish and chips and lovely service! My partner and I came about 9pm looking for food but found gold instead. A simple store front, filled warm service. Huge portions and great tasting fresh fish. Ordered the cod and haddock (freshly made!), chips, mushy peas and curry sauce, which was also really good! Probably the best chippy to go if you're looking for a late night visit to the beach. P.s Goes well with whisky

Very nice chippy. Had the chips and chicken strips special, think it was £3.50 everything was hot and tasty. Only downside was the portion size on the chips, would of had a little bit more. The size was a little bit small. But in saying that if i was to pass by again on my lunch i would go in again 👍

Used to love this place. After my last visit, not so much. I appreciate it was towards the end of the night, but I've never felt so unwanted in a shop. No greeting as we walked in, no acknowledgement that we'd actually placed an order. They just worked on the first part without thinking 3 people might be ordering more than one portion of chips... anything else we ordered during this time was met with again, no acknowledgement, we actually felt awkward just trying to order our meals. Everything was so dry, and the chips I think had been refried to an inch of their life. Black, burnt, hollow. A real shame, I've been going to this chip shop for 20 years. Just can justify spending money in a place that doesn't want you there the moment you walk in.

Beautiful crispy batter on a good size, firm, cod. Generous portion of chips. In future will share 2 portions of chips between 3 as we had so many left. Son said the battered sausage was lovely.

Very good fish & chips. We were a large party & also got a fish finger sandwich & veggie burger & were told that they were good too.

It will be a good 18 months since I purchased from seashells chippy Monkseaton. Today I was really looking forward to their fish and chips but how disappointed was I. The fish batter was soggy and chewy and the fish its self was also chewy and dry. The chips tepid a some where soggy. All together very disappointing.
