Please read this and other recent reviews before parting with any money- Despite reading a few reviews on here where others had aired their disappointment, we were still excited to visit and sample the wonderful seafood on offer from the Seafood Bothy. However, this excitement was short lived. I chose the lobster and prawn roll. The roll was lovely, the box was full of salad but the seafood, the headliner of this dish, was sadly lacking. Two small pieces of lobster with about ten prawns which looked like they were previously frozen and could have been sourced from a local supermarket. The mayo wasn’t good quality either. My partner ordered the crab quiche which appeared as a shallow filled crab/egg filling in a pie case. I’m not sure this could be classed as a quiche. Nothing else in the bag. It did taste of crab though. On a positive note, the staff were lovely but I cannot help feeling that they are living on a past reputation. I don’t mind paying for good quality local produce which lives up to its reputation. This did not. Perhaps they should rename their van The Salad Shack as that’s what I got.

All the photos looked so good we couldn't wait to visit! But the food was nothing like the photos - I couldn't find any lobster in my lobster and prawn roll. And the prawns didn't taste any fresher than the those from Tesco's. The crayfish baguette was better, well filled with crayfish but the bread on both dishes was 'plastic' aerated bread. The photos led me to believe this would be artisan street food using prime, fresh local ingredients - my experience didn't bear this out.

Was looking forward to trying this spot, what a big disappointment. The lobster & prawn roll was just a hard roll with 4 prawns and a sliver of lobster, if even that. What a rip off, not to mention tasteless.

Fabulous little seafood bothy which served a lovely Lobster and crab open sandwich. The seafood wraps looked amazing. Definitely worth a visit. It was a little pricy, £12 but I didn’t care, the food was outstanding.

Overpriced well below average toastie my wife and I always wanted to try their food on our trips to Stonehaven and we went for the fresh crab toastie (terrible) £24 for two !! When my wife brought it to our wee table sitting on the pier I thought that looks like the cheapest white bread money could buy then the burnt black bits of lettuce sticking out and some obnoxious overzealous filling that totally overwhelmed what crab meat was in it the heinous act was we pretended to eat it cause of the expense as I ripped the scorched bits of and tried the nachos (soft) drizzled with sweet chilli sauce the whole experience was of being ripped off !! Totally do not find one thing to compliment this place on !

This is a great little place on the quayside at Stonehaven harbour which always seemed to be busy. There is limited seating around it but plenty more places to perch around the harbour. All food is freshly prepared so there may be a short wait. We had a crab Scotch egg. It was huge and came in a pot with salad. It was £8 but we considered it good value for money. They happily cut ours in half for us to share. The food is not cheap but you are paying for quality locally caught food which is supplied by their own fishing boat. If you want to eat a truly local, freshly prepared snack in a beautiful location then give this place a try.

Our cray fish baguette that cost £10 came in a very small dry brioche finger roll. Very disappointing service as it took 30 minutes for it to come. The baguette was padded out with yellow lettuce and had some cheap rubbish Doritos on the side. For £10 it was an absolute scam.

Heard a lot about this place Had a lobster& prawn ciabatta with salad. Small dry roll with very little lobster and a few tiny prawns some limp lettuce and a mass of mixed beans At £12 it was an absolute rip off and certainly wouldn’t waste my time & petrol going back !! I would have rated it as ZERO had that been possible

My partner and I were really looking forward to trying the seafood bothy as we both love lobster. I went for the lobster quesadilla which was completely lacking in both seafood and flavour. The bean salad was watery and flavourless and tasted like mush in the mouth. The tortilla chips came with a bland dip and even they couldn’t save the show. How can you go wrong with tortillas? The pieces of lobster were so tiny that I wondered if she had forgotten to put them in. My partner opted for the lobster roll which was served on a brioche bun. All this sounded delicious until he realised it was almost devoid of any lobster at all. Just a lot of salad in a bun! We were charged around £27 for this disappointing experience and will not be returning any time soon. If you want overpriced and flavourless food, go ahead and order but take a magnifying glass to find your lobster and some seasoning or dressing to add flavour.

The quality of especially the Fish was excellent, the chips were good. A waste of time phoning ahead to be ready in 10 minutes. The staff were serving any one who walked in first. After about 10 people had been served we found this irritating and asked where our order was. The girl's expression looked as taken aback. If they want to keep new customers and we are long term local from the next village they need to stop the nepotism

This Bistro is as good as it gets, there again last Saturday evening with friends and had an excellent dinner. Great starters of scallops & soup, lobster mains and one other main which escapes me, oh and managed a sweet, fabulous. A few drinks including a couple of bottles of wine, very. The sad news is, we were told it was closing permanently the following evening Sunday and it has, due to lack of business which is a terrible shame. We travelled all the way up from Laurencekirk picking up friends en-route as we have done in the past. It a shame an establishment like this have closed.
