Scott's Plaice in Gosport

This place is such a great place to get food if you want a cheeky snack or a nice hot meal. Even though they are busy on a Friday food always comes hot and staff are friendly. I was served by a lovely young lad called Troy who was very polite. I WILL be using these guys again and definitely recommend. 😮

i dont know who scott it but i will find him, and when i do i will congratulate him on perfecting fish n chips, and also having the only good take away in bridgmary

We used Scott’s Plaice to cater for our Scout Group event. Everything was perfect! It was so well organised from their end, it really helped our event run smoothly. The name/order stickers on food boxes were genius!

Starting ordering about 4 weeks ago from Scott's can honestly say ... great quality! Delivery great! And delivery staff polite and cheerful 😁

Ordered from these guys for 7 months and food was consistent but lately last 3 orders have gone right down hill...chips were shocking if that what you could call them ... food was cold very disappointing ...ended up in the bin .... somethings changed and maybe they should address it ... 😠😠😡

Tried the other day. Fish batter had no crisp. Not impressed at all especially the price for fish and chips.

I attended a local church event last week and Scotts Plaice provided the food. We all pre-ordered and when we arrived at around 7pm I think, the food had already been delivered. I had cod and chips and the others in our little group had pie and fish cakes. It was lovely. The fish was so fluffy and white and there were no bones or skin on it. I really enjoyed my meal. I am not that local to the area but based on the meal I had last week I would go back to this fish and chip shop and I would recommend their food.

I made my first order from this place tonight Fish and chips with mushy peas with a spam fritter arrived with in 45 min But this was the first and last time I will be ordering from them The batter was very greasy and continued right through the fish I’ve never seen batter stick to greaseproof paper before the grease continued through the spam fritter.it all looked very bland the chips were undercooked . I’ve had better from a Chinese takeaway Needless to say after a few mouthfuls I’d had enough and in the bin it went thoroughly disappointed old saying comes to mind “once bitten twice shy”

I have been using this chippy for ages definitely gone down hill, ordered on just eat waited 1 hour 40 mins ended up with cold chips won't be using again

Had to wait for quite a while because they were doing orders for take away first, some other chippes employ some one else so that they can do both.

I Ordered a takeaway last night from Scott's plaice at 18.49pm the food never turned up till 9.10pm the 2 large chips I ordered were cold and hard and looked like all the old scrapings from the fryer left at the bottom the sausages were cold and the batter not even crispy. Very disappointed with the just eat service I received how can a delivery of 5 battered sausages and 3 large chips take over 2 hours. Not fair at all my kids were hungry and were just about to go to bed at that time not sitting and eating dinner.

I eat here on a weekly basis, nothing is ever too much for Scott or his staff, such a friendly hygienic takeaway establishment

Very disappointed. We live just around the corner. Admittedly we could have just tuned up at the shop and ordered. Unfortunately we had a large order so thought we’d try the delivery service. Not impressed waited nearly an hour for the delivery and the majority of the order was cold.

Scott's Plaice is a traditional Fish and Chip shop that really delivers on quality and price. The fish, sausages etc are really good quality, the batter is super crispy and the chips are to die for. Service is always super friendly and nothing seems to be too much trouble. I don't live in Gosport, but I choose to travel to Scotts' for the exceptional food and service. I wish you all well, Keep up the good work!

Chips are soggy, pie over done dry inside , not good how did this place get a top ranking ...would not use again

Best Fish and Chips in country in my opinion

I have had many a fish and chip night from various place but Scott's I must say out does them all. the food when delivered is hot and nicely packed no diffrent from collecting it A must if visiting Gosport or fareham you wont be disappointed Their mushrooms and spam fritters are to die for

Place has really gone downhill, it used to be hands down the best for miles around, but last few orders have been increasingly getting worse, the cod on my last order was atrocious and so overcooked the fish inside had dried up and was inedible, the plaice wasn't much better. There are now better options locally, I wouldn't order from here again, such a shame

I found this gem of a fish and chip shop a few months ago. The food is always tasty and well cooked with good portion sizes. I usually have a delivery and she is always friendly and on time. Highly recommend.

I guess I order from scotts plaice one a fortnight and have tried a wide variety of their goods from fish and chips to a mixture of side orders,pies,sausages and we have never had a bad meal.Always piping hot and fresh loads of flavour and always with a pleasant smile and happy to serve you.we have also ordered for delivery and even then it arrives on time and hot. You can try the rest but always come and try the best.Scotts plaice wins by miles.

This chippy has gone downhill! I don’t normally post negative reviews. Ordered food as a Friday night treat at 1820 and finally arrived at 2020 after 2 phone calls chasing the order. Will be worth the wait we thought, it’s normally good, how wrong could we be! Food was very oily and very overpriced for what we actually got. The light bite fish and chips was awful, pictured below the fish was mainly a lump of oily batter (pictured on plate as it was inedible) and an about a dessert spoon of fish (I know it’s light but that’s ridiculous) This is pictured in the oily box (yummy🤢) with which seemed like the scraps of chips left in fryer. Sorry Scott’s Plaice very disappointing. (07/07/2023) Edit 13/07/2023 After a concerned phone call and a sincere apology from the owner we decided to give Scott’s Plaice one more try ………. Well it didn’t disappoint, after a temporary glitch,.normal service has definitely resumed. Absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked fish and chips. Yummy 😋 (See lower photos) Thank you again to the owner, a reflection of fantastic customer service, when you can face up to issues and pick up the phone and put them right. We will be back. Faith restored

Slight issue this evening with deliveries; we got someone elses, when I phoned they told me mine was on the way, when I called an hour later I got told there was an issue and ours had been delivered and then told to try for a refund from Just Eat where I ordered it through because we've had nothing. The guy I spoke to was friendly enough and answered the phone in a happy tone but that doesn't help fill hungry tummies. Have used them before and the food has been good. Not so sure after this I'll be using them again, sadly.

We regularly order from Scott’s Plaice and we are always happy with the food. Good range of food and the chips are always nice.

Soooo disappointed…..ordered large cod and standard chips for delivery. The cod was mostly batter….in fact I broke off a third which had no fish at all. It puts me off ordering from here.

I visited yesterday for the first time since the pandemic started. The quality of the fish and the way its cooked is still excellent. The staff are very friendly and efficient with the orders. Click and collect service is a great addition. We will be returning soon.

Best fish and chips in the area

These are the worst fish and chips I have ever had in my life. I asked for my fish and chips to be in a box, and the fish and chips came in two separate bags within a big bag. The chips are sloppy, greasey all stuck together in one bag, and the large fish came as two fish in another bag. The chips are under cooked scraps and very sloppy. I asked for salt and vinegar and didn't get any at all. I waited 20 minutes outside waiting to be called in then had to wait another 10 minutes for the food to be cooked. I from out of town staying in a hotel. I been driving from Yorkshire on a 5 hour drive to the hotel then 2.5 miles to the chippy, 5 mile round trip. I couldn't be bothered to go back because I'm tired of my long journey today. The cost for this mess is £9.40. I have had one bite out of each fish and some chips. I could eat anymore because it is absolutely dicusting to eat, so the lot has gone in the bin Please see the photos of this mess. I added the mushy pea's on the chips. I will not be coming here again, that's for sure. I gave my experience one star because you have to.

Just been ripped off again ordered large Cod what I received was a thin over cooked strip of fish that must of weighed no more than 3 to 4 oz total rip off. Disgusted

After being made to stand outside in the wind & rain because I might have covid on my own but all their delivery drivers definitely don't carry it and fill the shop chatting together, then get home and there's salt all over the dinner I said vinegar only with I've not been back and no plans to either

They were 15 mins from closing when I popped in to get dinner for my son & everything was freshly cooked. The large chips...well it fed 3 of us with some left over! The staff are fab, the shop is absolutely spotlessly clean. This is the only place I know that does a spicy jumbo sausage which are my sons fave other than fish. We've had deliveries from here too via their own website & the food delivered has always been top notch. The batter on the sausages & the cod are amazing, chips fantastic as they're chunky but crispy & fluffy & not greasy either & the food we've had delivered has always been super hot. What more could you ask for really?!

First time we have ever got fish and chips for delivery and went for this place. - Unfortunately we booked delivery for 6 o'clock, was an hour late as the time did change a few times, but I understand how busy it probably is for the shop and also for the driver. Wasn't an iusse for what got delivered, Good quality and good value for money. It came warm to considering we are in Fareham.

Over £5 for a tiny piece of fish, nearly £2 each for tiny sausages and dry tasteless chips. Terrible portion sizes for the price paid, especially compared to other chippys and not even half decent 👎🏼

First time ordering and am disgusted! The chips look and taste as though they were left over from last night and just chucked in to be reheated! Spent £20 and the only thing eaten was nuggets! I bought it as a treat for my little ones and instead will be calling up the shop this evening once open to discuss and hopefully get a refund of some sorts. NEVER ordering again. Even Stacey's would do better and they're infested with rats! 🤮

Great fish & chips, first class, and importantly the fish isn't in with the chips so the batter stays nice.

The food is excellent, but the service was over stretched to many just eat waiting for food stopping normal collections, I counted over 10 couries waiting before me over 20 minutes I waited, and that was after they sent a message say your collection is ready, probably better to have two types of collection one for just eat and another for the rest of us ( normal customers)

Amazing food and decent prices.

For the chips and sausages we had, 4 stars. Friendly, helpful and pleasant staff. Notices plastered all around saying Face Masks are mandatory. You must wear a face mask to enter ( which to me is acceptable and makes sense under the present circumstances ) However I do have a problem with.... One rule for one and one rule for another. IT SEEMS that they have one rule for the public and one rule for the delivery drivers. Waiting outside for about 10 mins to be called in to the shop to be served ( no big deal in the waiting time, it is what you would expect being busy ) while waiting in line for those 10 minutes not one of the 7 - 8 delivery drivers that entered the shop ( one at a time no more than 2 - 3 in the shop at one time ) were wearing a face mask / covering . The lady delivery driver behind me in the queue however was. It is a shame this lets the business down somewhat. You cannot fault the rest of the steps the owners have in place for hygiene and cleanliness. However I do think the facemask rule should be for everyone including delivery drivers.

First time I tried to order from here, wont do again. Ordered on their website and it said they could deliver for a charge., so placed my order and paid. Then it was rejected with a phone number to call. I phoned the number and explained what had happened. I was told that we was outside of the delivery area. I said that the website had charged extra to deliver to my home and I was told that it was up the him if they wanted to deliver to my home, and he had decided not to. I was told that if I wanted to order then to do so on Deliveroo, which is more expensive and would have ended up a delivery cost of £7.50. Wont bother trying again, not a way to build up custom.
