Best haggis in town at the haggis box

I saw Queer Folks Tales here and will be coming back to see other shows. I love the Storytelling Centre.

I go here for the Loud Poets spoken word nights so I'm in buoyant spirits anyway BUT the dude that runs the bar/cafe is super friendly and quick serving the crowds. The architecture gives a contemporary cathedral feeling. Like stories are valued, treated with reverence. There's a lovely little bookshop.

Great venue for shows. Visited last time for a Magic Show. Very reasonable prices and good cafe.

Historic building that makes contemporary visitors very welcome. Great for families with kids.

Lovely venue with very attentive stewards who helped my disabled wife to her seat. It was a lovely evening for us both loved it.

Nice cultural resource for the city. Events put on regularly. Has a haggis b restaurant inside that's great.

Very friendly place with plenty to see. Auditorium seats are a little small and cramped and had a little difficulty getting around mobility wise.

The little haggis box is a gem for those who know. Sit and relax while enjoying the Scottish heritage around you. Super good for a meet up location. The menu is simple but what they have is quality. Very cost effective for such a central location.

Have been here a number of times for theatre shows and storytelling in the Netherbow theatre but the bookshop and exhibition space are pretty good too. Always a nice place to relax in :)

Great place on the Royal Mile with different sized theatres and rooms where traditional Scottish tales are told by talented storytellers. We went to a show during the Fringe with good tales with interludes when the storyteller played traditional Scottish tunes. The Centre also includes 'The Haggis Box café servings savoury food, cakes and drinks.

An eclectic place where you can both buy food and visit a well-stocked bookstore with books on fantasy and various legends, as well as attend performances of the Fringe Festival. A positive experience

I personally go for the storytelling and highly recommend it. There are many shows being performed here and well worth the visit. Another building that is beautiful and unusual and worth visiting by itself

One of the nicer places for August fringe experience... Family friendly, cozy, central, and the great haggis box café!

Another one of my favourite independent cultural venues in Edinburgh. They have such a great diverse programme, both for kids and adults. Home of Loud Poets. Great café and a wee book shop as well. There's usually an art exhibition in the café/ waiting space which have been really beautiful too.

Avoid- unaccommodating of circumstances & rude staff Our train was late and the streets mobbed with street performers and consequently we arrived at the venue 7 minutes late (not 8 minutes). The girl on the ticket desk refused us entry and wouldn’t listen to why we were late. She was quite obnoxious and seemed rather smug about refusing us entry. She was keen to point out that Technically she was in the right according to terms and conditions, however she could have been a little more amenable and willing to listen to our reasons. The festival web site says venue have discretion to allow entry - this person just gave a black and white view of the world answer and was very unpleasant. I’m so so disappointed having wanted to see the play for years. Can you please do something about the venue’s very uncustomer friendly approach , it really was out of order. We travelled an hour each way at not insignificant cost and I’m left feeling very unhappy and resentful of how we we appallingly treated . Thank you

Very quick service, the food was excellent and the staff very friendly. It's a superb place to stop for lunch in Edinburgh.

Amazing spot for some alternative entertainment in the heart of the city. A wide variety of very talented artists and a cafe with delicious food... Especially the haggis.

We had a wonderful afternoon here. The stories were exciting, funny and sometimes very touching. The music and singing were also very nice. We had an entertaining time here and will definitely come back. An absolute recommendation from us.

I stumbled in here because of the name, unaware what it really was. Ended up going with the flow using the excellent audio tour to discover the John Knox / John Mossman juxtaposition and the other really interesting historical facts. The painted ceiling blew my mind a little, because I had already left the room when the audio guide pointed it out to me. I also was very touched by the series of diorama type installations throughout the historical exhibition - I used to play these in "paper theater project" in school. It's an art form that is mostly forgotten and it was beautiful to find it here. Also recommend the book selection by the reception. The person at the reception was extremely friendly and helpful.

Very cozy place to enjoy an excellent haggis!

Very friendly and helpful staff (literally all 3 that we interacted with), delicious haggis (both standard and vegetarian) and even the hot chocolate and cappuccino are remarkably good. To top it all off the price and presentation are very agreeable too - would definitely recommend as a place for a snack and a drink while visiting Edinburgh.

We very much enjoyed the venue insofar as it was the host of the Richard Wiseman show, part of the Edinburgh International Magic Festival.

We absolutely adore this place and love to visit here whenever we’re in town. The loveliest atmosphere, a beautiful little bookshop and always top class service in the cafe. Every single time. In my opinion, they do THE best decaffeinated coffee I’ve ever had. That’s high praise indeed from me! Keep doing what you’re doing. An absolute gem of a place in Scotland’s beautiful capital.

Such a great place. Their shows are generally really thought provoking and enjoyable. They've a great variety of stuff on. The cafe is a cracking wee place for a bite and the space is warm friendly and usually has an art exhibition in it.

Went in to see brilliant Fringe show by Sinéad O'Brien, the venue itself is lovely. Café is very good, staff are so friendly and helpful, will definitely return to spend more time there

We went for a fringe show of scottish story telling, beautiful experience. The reader was incredible, made me feel like a kid again with stories of mermaids, adventures and folklore of times past it was brilliant. The only difficulty was it was a little hard to find, the signs from our direction where rather small so keep your eyes peeled especially if the street is full.

Beautiful building new and old. Wonderful kind staff. Excellent range of storytelling performances and the haggis box cafe was fantastic. Love the red wine sauce for the haggis. Wonderful cultural centre. Highly reccomend for all ages!

Had a grand afternoon listening to live traditional Scottish music. Every now and then the whole crowd would join in on a song, which was very touching. It has a food counter that offers haggis(didn’t try it though, as I wasn’t hungry at the time) and a nice gift shop with books.

I witnessed a wide variety of work which in itself would provide topics for storytelling- There is a lovely small theatre downstairs which is available for many activities such as dance, music and song. Grrrrreat !!!!

Upfront info- I love stories and am keen to be a part of their storytelling apprenticeship scheme. Fantastic bookshop, great café, lots of events happening, disabled loo... I joined as a supporter of the centre which gives me a reduction in shop and café.

I was at the haggis box ( they are joined ). Haggis are super, its a pity i couldnt stay more in Edimburgh as they have storytelling labs for kidz

Lovely theatre very compact place with intimate vibe. Shop and restaurant simple menu and seating. Good friendly staff. Scottish themed performances especially during festival and Christmas season.

We popped in here for a wee cuppa and some cake towards the end of the day. The cafe has space adjacent to it where children can play. There are books, a few toys and an interactive wall all based around children's stories. The space was relaxing. It gave us some much needed downtime and had we known we would have come at lunch as the food looked lovely. It's a nice place for a cuppa with kids as they can move around whilst you actually get to enjoy a drink. Serves some nice beers and yummy hot chocolate too.

Very good theater and good magic show

An excellent venue with a cute little cafe and theatre facilities. Lots of nice art on the walls and has an open and helpful energy. Definitely check out the Programme and see what is on.

The room is a superb space for the story tellers and the café sells a good range of food and decent coffee.

Always a good place to visit but this was my second recent visit for the Village and the Road as part of Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Excellent theatre, must go here again when the festival is over and Edinburgh is a bit quieter.

What a lovely wee place with a surprisingly big theatre downstairs. The staff are lovely but the cafe is quite pricey (£4 for a bacon roll) so feed the kids first!

Fiz a experiência sozinha...é não me arrependo...havia áudio book em português e os atendimento foi incrível...sem contar a história do lugar...a grande surpresa é a mega coleção de whiskys e descobrir de quem era a coleção originalmente é surpreendente. Os whisky são muito bons e diferentes daqueles que tomamos no Brasil...recomendo com certeza. Vc encontra whisky com tudo que é preço...o mais barato q vi era de 28 libras!!

Absolutely in Love with the Place. Was there as a Performer a Storyteller and loved every single minute of being there.
