Scottish Steakhouse in Highland

Extremely tasty Scottish fare. Very pleasant ambiance for a winter’s meal in the Highlands. Attentive and friendly service.

We had an unfortunate experience at this establishment. We were hoping to enjoy a nice lunch, but there were no staff available to assist us. After waiting for 15 minutes without being offered even a drink, we decided it was best to leave.

Restaurant managed to cater for 2 very large groups of diners at once. Orders (with allergies) were placed in advance so food served quickly and efficiently with steaks cooked exactly as ordered. Food was excellent and the friendly staff went out of their way to be helpful. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Delicious and freshly prepared, friendly and accommodating

We came there by chance in a group. Without a reservation it wasn't a problem. At the beginning we were told about the staffing problem with 1 chef at that time, but we only had to wait 10 minutes for starters and the main courses didn't take long to arrive. The service was extremely friendly and helpful in explaining the dishes. It was great for us tourists. The food was mega 🤩, the portions were huge, and the fish and chips barely fit on the plate. The soup of the day (carrot-orange) was also so fine and large that it was almost enough. We would all go there again and can highly recommend it.

Having read all the bad reviews we avoided this place when staying at the Spey Valley resort. However, we were starving and just wanted somewhere on site, fast. To our surprise it was actually very tasty and cooked to perfection.. when we arrived there was only 1 table in but we were told there was a table of 10 due to might be a wait as only 1 chef (on a sat night) . We ordered before they arrived and we got our food quick enough. Waitresses were lovely too. If anything.. a wee bit of rock salt on the steak wouldn’t go a miss.

Booked through the website for 5.30. We were staying at the other MacDonalds hotel, so eventually we discovered where the steakhouse was located. Given other comments and as we have a disabled daughter I decided while on a cycle to drop in past and check the reservation. Met with a sulky employee who took me into the restaurant and looked up the bookings and told me we didn’t have a booking despite me showing him our confirmation email!!! He said basically tough luck, and with staff shortages I can’t book you in. I decided I couldn’t be bothered with him so left. If that’s the attitude before you arrive, perhaps just as well we didn’t go. Looked a bit of a cold barn tbh, had a fabulous meal at the Cairngorm Hotel brilliant staff excellent food.

Restaurant was never open due to no staff. No atmosphere. TV is always on showing golf or music channel. Hardly anyone uses the place anymore.

I am very disappointed. I travel half way around the world to visit the Highlands of Scotland and the resort I am staying in has a restaurant that is not opened for most of the week while I am here. But Google says it is open every day. I planned on this in my travels and I am very disappointed in this resort. 😞

For the second year running when we turned up for our table they couldn’t find our reservation. The restaurant manager just wanted to argue with us, but finally agreed to seat us. It was only 6.30pm and although one large group had finished their meal there was only two other tables in use, and it advertises as open till 10pm. Was disappointed with the menu as it advertises itself as a steakhouse there is only one steak on the menu, it was however cooked lovely but the rest of the food appeared to be frozen.

Food was terrible, steak was asked for medium rare and it might have eneded up being drier than the Sahara desert - not one sign of red/pinkness, staff were nice and friendly enough and offered to refund steak, although food was disappointing sadly.

Amazing food and just outside is the play area so you can even sip wine while your kid play in the play area ;-)

Very good , helpful manager in Restaurant . Nice stuff. Food was ok, nothing special. Music in restaurant terrible.

The steak was one of the best me and my boy friend have ever had! Would’ve done 4.5 stars as service was slow and a little pricey but was worth it

Good food, but not the best for a steak house, only had 2 options, one of which wasn't available. Amazing quality but definitely expensive for what you're getting

Order a Burger with cheese, it came also with extra bacon which I didn't want. The bun was half burnt. The rest of the burger was very basic and clearly overpriced. At the end the bacon and cheese on the burger were charged twice the price and I had to ask for a refund. Service was good.

The worst meal I have ever had (aged 55 and I like to think very much not precious). Only time I have failed to eat ANYTHING of both the starter and main course and the staff agreed!. Please avoid. One star given only because that was minimum. Otherwise it would be a zero or negative vote. Staff were polite but clearly fatigued by contestant complaints. Macdonalds, you need to do so much better!

Taking off one star because the service was very slow. The staff were lovely and the food delicious, although the menu isn't large.

Brilliant food! I have a lovely dinner for two here with my wife. The menu is quite small but when the rib eye is as good as this, why does it need to be bigger?! The sides were great and the portion sizes of the chips fantastic. Great service too, going out of their way to find a bottle of wine for us. Couldn’t recommend more.

In-House restaurant for the famous Macdonald Strathspey Resort in Aviemore. As one would expect, beef predominates on the Menu, but a selection of other Bistro type dishes are on offer too. Portions are generous, and prices are not cheap, but not too expensive either. Food is excellent, and the service is very friendly. Ambience is rustic cosy, as one would expect in the Highlands. Excellent live Scottish music is also on offer some of the evenings. If the prices were just *slightly* lower, this would get 5/5 stars.

Excellent food and service, highly recommend this place to eat. Starter, main and desert were all superb.

Popular restaurant within the Macdonald Spey Valley Resort. Tables can be booked at reception and this is recommended particularly on a Friday/Saturday.

Bit dated but a nice restaurant and bar, the staff are always friendly and happy to help. Steak was cooked to perfection. Would go here again.

Not a wide range on menu but what we had steak/burger/pasta were good.

Steak choices were limited for a steak restaurant, but albeit well cooked. The wine list is very limited and the menu is a bit too diverse for a steak restaurant

Excellent food, friendly and polite stuff

Despite the Covid19 difficulties for the hospitality industry I think this is one to avoid.

Comfortable restaurant in the middle of the resort and open again after the Covid restrictions.
