Saxon Traditional Fish and Chips in Central Bedfordshire

This place has good one down hill unfortunately. Kebabs used to really good now the wait is so long (40mins most recent) chicken cold pita hard and what on earth is going on with serving kebabs in paper boxes just turns to mush. No more for me 👎

Great food, good value for money. Just a shame they sometimes shave the kebab meat a little too thick!

place has gone down hill. made an order at 20:10 to be collected at 20:40. arrived on time and didn’t receive my order until 20:55. why am i waiting 15 minutes for 3 items and some sauce to be put in a bag?? especially after having 30 minutes warning of my order. after i asked how long it’d be, the woman finally put my order together. pathetic portion of chips. i even had to ask if it was a large, at which she responded yes and it was done based on box size. box size is pretty irrelevant if you’re only filling it half way!!! absolute rip off, £5.30 for a tiny portion of chips. not happy at all.

Disappointed with both the food and the size of the portions. The fish bites were tiny and the large cod was smaller than the medium ones that I get from my usual fish shop. Chips were soggy as well and again the large serving was smaller than the medium from my usual place. Only went here because Sheffs was closed.

I ordered a kebab, chicken sheesh and about two hours later I had a very bad tummy. I’ve never known chilli sauce to have carrots in maybe that’s what caused it.

I always order online & im always happy and shocked that the good is so hot and fresh. This is the best chip shop I have ever been too. I went there to collect one time & it is so clean and tidy. Polite & friendly staff.

If I could have given less than 1 star I would have. I ordered online for collection. Email confirmation told me my food would be ready at 1740, at 1800 I was still waiting for it. I was finally given what I thought was my food. Drove 10 minutes home and unwrapped it for my family to discover I had been given completely the wrong order. I called the shop and they just stated that they had my food. I returned to collect my food. Upon arrival I wasn't so much as offered an adequate apology. I was given a bag that contained cold food which when I had returned home it had all stuck to the paper wrapping and wasn't edible. Customer service was terrible, the food was even worse. I have had to seek an alternative way to feed my family and wasted £25! Maybe I was just unlucky but the fact that zero effort was made to put the mistake right and I was left to feel as it was my fault!!??

I am so so disappointed with this place I used to live it and even though I live in potton I would sometimes come on way home from work . Tonight I fancied a kebab and chips tk it was awful ,all the salad was old and not nice I couldn’t even use the pitta it was rock solid ,and chips were horrid . They lost my custom now if u can’t be bothered to do ok food don’t bother at all

been ordering from here for a long time. the place has gone very downhill. just waited an incredibly long time for an order, much longer than it said for collection, and received items wrong. 2 pieces or halloumi on a piece of pita bread for £8.50. shocking. didn’t even bother to add the salad despite taking so long. rip off.

Very good food , cooked fresh Just one thing …. When you prepare a burger , put the salad / sauce on the top not the bottom

Sausage, chips and supposedly curry sauce. Was more like Curried water and Was only Luke warm.

Went there for the 1st time today and won't be going back food was ok but the service was poor no communication between the staff my burger was cooked packaged and left at the back for 10 minutes until I tapped my keys on the counter enough to get the servers attention and told him

Went in yesterday, it was a Friday so was a busy day however it was worth the wait because the food was fresh and tasty. I got the cod and chips which was a great potion size and my partner got a chicken kebab with garlic Mayo the lady that served us was lovley and made conversation, evreytime I come in she’s always smiling which creates a good atmosphere, the men at the back was lovley too keep up the good work guys!

We came here after finding our usual fish and chip shop closed (one I highly recommend!). This one was shockingly poor. Chips were bland and chewy, looking at the last review I can see now that these could have been reheated. The vegetarian options weren’t great (my usual one has a couple of decent choices), I went for the vegetarian kebab which was basically salad on pita bread with a few grilled veg pieces with garlic mayonnaise. It was okay but I didn’t eat most of it. My fiancé had the cod, and it was smaller and thinner than his usual one, he was equally disappointed. Given that we ordered no drinks and always do at our usual chip shop, this still was significantly more expensive despite the food being massively disappointing, smaller portions and no drinks. We won’t be going back again. Amazed that it is rated 4.2 out of 5!!!

Terrible food, chips were last nights reheated, cod was thin and tasteless and the salt and vinegar I requested was non existent. I have just checked and found their hygiene rating is very low. Avoid this place.

best chip shop in biggleswade i v been to them all and saxon chip shop does the largest fish and the best chips value for your money and they do banging kebabs 10/10 for me

Reasonably generous donner portions, value is okay

The staff and food are just as good as each other the lady at the front is so bubbly and talkative I always look forward to seeing her as I come in she always gets my order right and makes sure she’s done It right!

I ordered large cod and chips with mushy peas it was delicious the staff were friendly and helpful, it's quite busy when I was there and I waited until the fish was cooked fresh.

This place is bloody GOOD! We tried it for the first time in 2016 and was amazed at how nice it was. The large cod, its more like a whale, its huge and delicious. FYI: Dont use Ubereats to order your takeaway from here. Go in and order it because you save a lot! (see below) Pop in and order: £24.70 UberEats delivered: £39.38 This is NO joke!!

Called in at 9.15pm on way back from Wimpole Estate. Wasn't sure if they'd still be serving, they were, and we got freshly cooked cod, chips and mushy peas and they were great! Batter thin and crispy, lovely just cooked chips with fluffy middle. Will definitely visit again.

Our order was wrong, instead of 2 sausages and 2 chips it didn't come with the chips, but added 2 sausages and still charged.

There’s so many good things I can say about this place, personally iv been coming for a while and I see a huge change in customer service there’s a lady with a scarf who’s always smiling even when busy! She’s always talking to me and never gets my order wrong the owner is also very nice, the kebabs are amazing and so is the cod and sausages! I don’t understand how you can hate this place the best customer service went in today she’s talkative and smiling and asked how my day was. will definitely be going back there to try more of their stuff !

Fantastic Fish and chip shop. Excellent chips and decent portions, fish is always good but personal preference is for the cheeseburger with donor meat on top, you can't beat it. Have been coming here for a while and will continue to do so

Sadly, I have not had good fish from here, its always thin, dry and tasteless.and the chips are always undercooked. However, their Chicken kebabs are the best in town with crisp fresh salad and the best chilli sauce ever ! Highly recommend the kebabs.

Quality of the food is not as good as others around Biggleswade.

I live just across the road from this shop and can say hands down it’s the best fish and chip/kebab shop in Biggleswade, always so friendly and generous with there portions. My family live outside of Biggleswade and travel to them just for there kebabs! Spotless clean shop also. They were definitely missed as you could tell just by the que s outside when they first reopened after lockdown

I have been coming here since moving to Biggleswade 3 years ago. Food is constantly good and they have never given me a reason to try anywhere else. Large chips is more than enough for 2 Plenty of parking very convenient.

It's a fish and chip shop! They are pretty good, given the difference between the very best fish and chips in the world versus just "meh" is not going to be a great deal. These guys are a good, standard fish and chip shop and I don't really get the complaints, particularly RE quality of pies/sausages and price. I'm pretty sure all that stuff comes from the same supplier for all of them, it's fine! Regards to portion sizes, I can feed 4 people on a single portion of large chips, a large cod and a sausage thrown in. Total cost slightly north of a tenner. Good shop and I go regularly.

We've been going here for over 10 years and it's our favourite chip shop in the area. Friendly staff. The chips are always big portions and crispy. Never much of a wait even then they are busy. Always recommend them

Best fish and chips friendly staff

We prefer getting our burgers from this takeaway, always juicy and a nice amount of salad if required. Chips can, not often though, be a bit undercooked. Fish is very good. Nonetheless better value than the new McDonald's in Biggleswade and better food in our opinion.

Big portions but service isn't great. Staff very grumpy, very impatient and don't make it clear who's order is who when handing over.

It took and 1hr and 45mins for 3 Donna kebabs to be delivered at 7pm on a Saturday night. We were over charged and they would bring out money back. The meat it’s self is of a poor quality and Extremely greasy to the point of coats your mouth. We asked for a pot of garlic mayo and chilli for each Donna but just got two pots of chilli and one plain mayo and the chilli was not spicy at all just very watery.

What do you get when you order Fish Cake and Chips, Battered Sausage and chips, and a sausage and chips kids meal?You get 2 savaloys, an unbattered sausage, only one chips and a kids meal with fish instead of sausage. The fish cake was correct though.Poor service, bad attitude, I will be going elsewhere in future.

I called ahead and placed an order for a chicken kebab , was told 30 mins , that's fine nobody wants raw chicken . Came to collect I don't think order had even been placed , whole shop served in front of me including other kebabs . 38 mins later mine was done , just standing waiting all that time so prob almost hour for order . Very poor . However tasty kebab , friendly girls serving so not sure what issue was . Unlikely to be back

Great fish and chips at low prices

I think this chippy is great. Fish was tasty and batter light and crispy. Scampi portions enormous. Small doner kebab was lovely, also plentiful. Chips were very nice. Definately going back.

Used this place for the last time last night. Staff are so rude like you are doing them a favour only accepts cash no cards. Sausages pies etc are clearly cheap and poor quality. Chips were hard with a funny dirty oil taste to them and the batter on the fish was like card board. Really expensive and tiny portions there are much better available elsewhere.

Is there anywhere in Biggleswade that does decent fish and chips? Sadly this doesn't seem to be the case. Sausage was disgusting and the chips were dry. Next time I'll drive down to Baldock and eat at The Maltings Restaurant. Won't bother again.

Great fish and chips and the best kebabs in town. The Saxon Special is big enough to feed a family of four! They accept pre-orders by phone, which is a good idea if they are busy as they are on most evenings.

Used to be really good,sadly chips although large portions had been reheated at sometime but cold and hard when we went to eat,plus saveloy's were cold,this is 2nd time we have had them like this,wont be 2nd time as would rather make extra journey and use sun St their always nice and hot,plus fresh

Ahora regularmente ir aquí. La comida es deliciosa, buena relación calidad-precio y siempre está fresca. Hamburguesas de pescado de kebabs de pollo a la comida es buena. Está limpio y el personal es amable. Se llena mucho, pero eso es un signo de buena comida. Puede ser lento a veces, pero vale la pena la espera.

Compré pescado y patatas fritas de este establecimiento ayer, estaba recién preparado y vale la pena la espera. También compramos cod churro roe, este no estaba recién preparado, fue pasada y aceitosa de ser tibia. Decepcionado con este problemilla al pequeño, pero importante.

Couldn't put contents of kebab into pitta bread as it was soggy and had been cut through middle and several places if you want a spicy so called savaloy the you will like these but as apparently it's a traditional chip shop there is no traditional to these savaloys never going back also have to wait a good 30mins

I recently called in for lunch today. The shop was empty, but still I had to wait over 20 minutes for a standard Cod and chips. The staff seemed to be chatting away and not really interested in cooking a decent meal., The chips tasted as if they had been kept warm for ages and the fish batter was really greasy. This place has gone down hill in the last 6 months or so. Although I live quite close, I shall be taking my business elsewhere.

This used to be one of the best in the area but the consistency has gone down badly in the last year or so. Shame, cos when they do get it right it's fine but when they don't you wish you had gone somewhere else..and there is plenty of choice close by.

Handy it's close to home and they take card!Chips are lovely, you can also phone ahead and collect chicken kebabs rather than having to wait.Staff always really friendly too.Recommended.

I've been going here for years. I popped in to get a bag of chips on a Friday around 6pm.They took my order, and made me wait 25 minutes whilst all the other orders were serviced. Not happy! There is often 10+ waiting during busy periods with sometimes only 2 staff serving, so expect long waits. They've also started charging 50p to use a debit card which I use as a meal for 4 of us often gets to over £25.00

You won't get better in Biggleswade, great food and portion sizes are huge! Me and my partner share a small portion of chips with a small cod for me and a pie for her, there are always enough chips left over for a third person!! The small cod hangs over the edge of the plate too - great food and super value

Biggleswade is not burdoned with an overabundance of good fish and chip shops. When we do want fish and chips, we get it from here, the best in town.Also I made the title fact up, I have no idea whether the Saxons used to have fish and chips or not. I imagine they probably didn't.
