Best Ethiopian / Eritrean restaurant I ever been to in the UK second time visiting and the food is always fresh and tasty particularly loved the injera soooo homeeemade tasty would definitely come visit again so recommended don’t miss out

Great service and welcome. The waitress helped us through the menu with recommendations. The Eritrean food was incredible and enjoyed some fusion sides. We loved every mouthful with amazing quality ingredients, flavours and textures. Great cocktails as well. Will definitely visit again and recommend to friends.

Loved this place! The modern decor is stylish but still feels welcoming, and the food is incredible. The injera with doro wat and misir wot was packed with flavor, and the sambusas were the perfect starter. Everything is served on a shared platter, which makes it a fun experience. The staff were super friendly and happy to explain the dishes. Definitely try the Ethiopian coffee at the end—it’s amazing. Highly recommend!

I have been coming to savanna for a few years now, the food and atmosphere has always been fantastic but now they have refurbished I have never seen or experienced an Eritrean/ Ethiopian Restaraunt like this! The food has been elevated to another level and they have now made the restaraunt into a cocktail bar and added an East meets West menu too which topped it off for me. If you are ever in Birmingham you need to try Savanna (my favourite is the mix of vegetable and meat dished platter), you will not be disappointed at all.

I ordered lamb but was sent beef instead, which was incredibly disappointing. The dish lacked any chillies, olive oil, or onions, and the salad that was promised on the menu didn’t arrive. To make matters worse, the meal was late, and when it finally came, it looked utterly unappetising—more like dog food. For £30, I expected much more, especially given the tiny portions. Absolutely not recommended, and I want my money back!

Arrived for a birthday reservation at 7:30 pm to find the shutters down and no one answering the phone despite being advertised as open and receiving confirmation emails of the booking throughout the day

The restaurant has been refurbished, featuring an eye-catching entrance that draws you in as you pass by. After entering and taking a seat for a few minutes, I called a lady over to help me choose from the menu, as I was unsure what to order. We waited 30 minutes for the food, which, while palatable, had portions that did not justify the price. My platter included just one drumstick and a few bites of meat. I left feeling that I had paid more for the refurbishment than the meal. The staff were pleasant, but the restroom lacked lighting, which was disappointing given the restaurant's inviting ambiance. Overall, the service was good, but the portions need to be more generous. I am willing to try them again if they take the following points into consideration.

Food was absolutely amazing, quite spicy, but it was just the portions that came noticeably smaller than expected for their prices. Other than that, everything else was top notch, and staff were very kind and hospitable.

This is hands down the best restaurant in Birmingham. I was here with a colleague for a 6 day work trip, expenses and we tried lunch and dinner in different places, and out of the 12 we tried this was just so good. Devorra and family are so lovely, warm, treat you like one of their own, and my goodness the food is out of this world. If you leave without trying this, you’re a muppet.

Absolutely amazing food. Came here with my daughter - her suggestion. Best mean ive had for some time. I'm new to this cuisine so was steered well by the staff as to what to try. Derek fries were a treat and the beer was excellent.

Went here from a recommendation and it was amazing! Customer service was exceptional and personable, and the food was such high quality and absolutely delicious. Would absolutely go back again and again to try all the options on the menu. As 2 vegans we had lots to choose from and can’t wait to visit again soon!

Had a brilliant experience at Savanna today. Food was excellent, which alongside the decor felt incredibly authentic. Service was great, restaurant provided dates for Ramadan which were lovely and sweet- perfect for breaking a fast with. Will definitely be back. Food is halal for anyone wondering.

Ethiopian restaurant in the Birmingham city centre. We had the injera platter and it was delicious, the food was so aromatic! The service was amazing as well, the waitress was very warm and gave us suggestions and helpful context as it was the first time we'd tried Ethiopian food. We will definitely be coming back for more!

Wanting to to try something different, me and my girlfriend visited savanna whilst in Birmingham, the very polite waitress suggested a sharing platter which I can only describe as fantastic, the injera was amazing , I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area. Service is an 11/10 as is the food. Want to thank the staff for the excellent service and bringing a cuisine which isn't readily available .

We arrived late and not only did they accommodate us but they were really friendly. We had the Vegetarian Platter and it was excellent. Ironic that the best food in Birmingham may be from Africa!

A truly fabulous experience. I shared a vegetarian platter which was so utterly flavourful and delicious. From the moment we stepped through the door we were greeted so warmly, and the friendly atmosphere continued throughout the meal. I can’t wait to come back!

This place was open on Sat 9 Apr 2022 when I called in to book for Mon 11 Apr. By Monday it was closed down and gutted inside. It would have been polite to have declined the reservation, then three people would not have had a futile journey. UPDATE: I called in on 14 Aug 2023 now that this restaurant has reopened, established that ownership has not changed and sought an explanation as to why they had accepted a booking when the restaurant was about to close down. I was informed that the owner was out, invited to leave my telephone number and assured that I would get a call the next day. 9 days on, the silence is deafening. Does Savanna have any concept of customer care?

Absolutely wonderful evening, my first visit to this fabulous restaurant and certainly will not be the last. I called for takeaway orders, advised to visit as I am five minutes away. The phone conversation was very professional the staff member were very pleasant. Despite my late arrival they took my orders with smiles. The food was fantastically delicious. I have no hesitation in recommending Savanna restaurant for anyone visiting Birmingham. Excellent food service experience at its best. Thank you!

The new Savanna menu has most definitely upgraded! The starters were absolutely flavoursome and the Awaze Wings were AMAZING !! This has got to be the best Ethiopian restaurant I have ever been too. I 1000% recommend this place. Food - 10/10 Cocktails- 10/10 Customer service- 100/10

Dunno what to say apart from the fact that I am utterly disappointed. No phone number, website is practically non functional, Google says 'open' but both times we visited the place it was closed. The photos and positive reviews online look so amazing, it is a shame really that we never got to try out this place.

It lacked the sour and more fermented flavour that can be experienced at other restaurants. Red lentils lacked false cardamom flavour and were not very flavoursome. Perhaps this is meant to be Anglicized Ethiopian food but it is important to realise that many customers in the UK actually love spicy and flavoursome food.

Food was 10/10. Service was immaculate, food portions were more than generous! Would highly recommend to all my friends. Will definitely be returning! Would give it more than 5 star if I could!

I'm a huge fan of Ethiopian food and Savanna definitely doesn't disappoint. We shared the platter and the injera base was a great way of serving the various dishes. There's no cutlery but the delicate flavour combinations make it finger licking good
