SAVAGES MUSSELS BAR in Cheshire East

Really fantastic, recommend if you’re a seafood lover. We will be back and have recommended to friends and family. The mussels are fantastic, I had the Thai green (incredible flavours and perfectly balanced) and my partner had the creamy (smooth and comforting) steamed mussels - perfectly cooked and moreish! We had popcorn mussels and whitebait for starters. The whitebait was the best I have ever had, perfection. Portion sizes were decent. Pricing is spot on in my opinion, not the cheapest in the area, but I would not expect to pay any less for the type of food and quality. Atmosphere is great, intimate and welcoming. Service is also very good - Only minor suggestion/observation is the member of staff serving hadn’t tried all the dishes so couldn’t advise in completion (perhaps they are new which is understandable - hence no deduction on reviews), only raising as many restaurants skip basic dish and drink training/tasting/pairing now, and it lets them down - Savage is clearly a cut above and one of a kind - menu, execution, atmosphere, style, niche - this small training investment would reinforce this. Can’t wait to come back!

Blaring music and yelling whilst eating makes for a crap eating experience thanks to the owners mindset.

Came to Savages with my wife yesterday afternoon. My wife has been wanting to eat here for ages since having the mussels at Picturedome and finding out the owner opened his own place. We brought with us our young cockapoo who was welcomed. To start we shared the popcorn mussels and the salt and pepper squid special and they were both lovely, the popcorn muscles for me worked so well. For mains I had the salmon dill cream pasta and my wife had the steamed mussels, again, both well executed dishes. I will return for the fish finger sandwich that sadly wasn’t available. We walked away with bellies full of fish and happy with the food, the service, the price and the overall experience.

I visited Savages Mussels for the first time this evening with my sister and dad, I’d had the pleasure of sampling the food previously when they were part at the Picturedrome family, but it was a first for the others. We all commented on how amazing the food was - easily the best Calamari I’ve ever had. We can’t wait to revisit in the future. Thank you for the great food and service.

Gorgeous food in a cosy setting. The food was 10/10, nothing to improve. So nice to have this place locally to Macclesfield. Service was also really friendly. Only small complaint was the Calamari and desserts seemed a bit costly, compared to a fairly priced menu otherwise. Also I thought the music was a bit loud, although a great soundtrack! Will definitely visit again.

Best mussels and chips this side of the English Channel.

Nicest linguine I've had in years. Toilet experience is best in class; you'll feel at ease with birdsong being chirped into the room.

Excellent alternative fish restaurant, everything cooked fresh and delicious. Attentive and efficient service. We went in for a "light lunch" and had such good dishes. Padron peppers, whitebait as starters and then mussels and the fish finger sandwich - all so well done! Highly recommended.

I took my family to Savages Mussels Bar and it was fantastic. We started with whitebait and calamari, both excellent, and some of the sweetest oysters I’ve ever tasted. The mussels for our mains were tender and delicious - perfect really, and our fries were fresh and crispy. The servers were friendly, attentive and helpful, making the whole evening just an excellent experience. They also have an excellent drinks menu. Savages Mussels Bar 100% deserves a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating.

A lovely, cosy, welcoming eatery. Very friendly, attentive staff. It was hard to choose from the menu as everything sounded delicious. Our party particularly enjoyed the pickled mussels, scallops and mussels mac'n'cheese. Nice selection of beers and wine. Will definitely be back to try more dishes

Ate here for the first time a few weeks ago and it did not disappoint. We shared starters of scallops, oysters and popcorn muscles. I have never been a fan of muscles but these were amazing, especially with the jam!! A must try for anyone. The mains were also to a very high standard and full of flavour. The tables favourite was the linguine however the muscles went down a treat too! Huge portions & piping hot fresh flavourful food. What more could you want? Lovely interiors and a very warm welcome, we will be back!

My husband and I went for my birthday,i don't do seafood so I had the veggie option, my husband likes seafood but had never had mussels before, Jamie the owner and staff were amazing, they gave him a few to try before ordering, Obviously he loved them, We both had a tremendous meal and fully enjoyed it, I absolutely loved my veggie option xx Also I asked Jamie if he could do me a voucher for our friends as a wedding gift, He made a lovely voucher and what a lovely guy he is.

Having a big birthday was a great reason to have lunch here. Jamie has created an intimate welcoming space with absolutely delicious food and friendly staff. Treated myself to oysters, followed by incredible mussels in an abundance of fabulous chilli and garlic, which I mopped up with the sourdough and skin on fries. All washed down with bottle of Aspall cider. It was so good I can't wait to return.

Fabulous food and exceeded my expectations. Scallops to start, king prawn with mussel linguine and finished with a superb deconstructed cheese cake. I can safely, highly recommend Savages. Great wines choices too.

Mussels done to perfection, popcorn mussels a must

The place was incredible, a small place in the middle of the center of Macclesfield, it is very worth it, the food is delicious and the service is super good, 100% recommended!!

Not been here since they have moved. Food is still amazing. Definitely recommend this place if you like a good vibe, excellent service and amazing food. Definitely a great spot in Mac to eat out. We have the scotch egg (amazing) and then the chilli and garlic mussels. With a side of parmesan frys. We will be back for some more amazing food.

Best mussels I've had in Britain (perhaps even as good as Belgium!).

The service was great and the food was very tasty. Sadly however, me and my partner got very bad food poisoning after that. We emailed the restaurant but still haven’t got a response.

We visited Savages last night for the first time. The food was delicious, we had the scallops, Mac n cheese and mussels in Chilli, lemon and garlic sauce. Couldn't fault the service or the food and the restaurant had a nice buzz. Will definitely be back.

First time to the new place since they relocated. Loved it. Fabulous mussels as ever, wife had the fish finger sandwich and loved that too. We will return!

Party of 4 last night (Xmas Eve). We all had steamed mussels of various kinds with fries, spicy, cheesy and regular. A couple of bottles of the excellent house Merlot. Jamie does the best mussels anywhere I’ve been and his new restaurant is perfect with attentive and fast service. Strongly recommended. We’ll be back soon.

Fabulous mussels at Savages. The fish butty was served with picked mussels and onions and was amazing. It was all so tasty. Highly recommended.

The quality of the ingredients we had was first class. Excellent scallops, beautifully cooked as was the calamari. The signature mussels were delicious as was the reasonably priced wine. All combined with friendly welcoming front of house staff. A welcome addition to the dining out scene in Macc.

Chilled atmosphere with friendly service. The food though is the stand out with plenty of options that are now faves of mine, popcorn mussels need to be tried if you haven't had them before as well as my go to lunch being the fish finger butty both are amazing with out with our sides. A great addition to The Castle Quarter!

“Girls night!” We visited Savages on Friday night as part of our ‘girls night’ after hearing brilliant reviews… and let me tell you - we were NOT disappointed! This was my first time trying mussels, my friend is obsessed… and now I am too! The linguine was outstanding - beautiful and creamy - as were the Mariana mussels and bread. The ladies that waited on us were attentive and chatty, and it was one of their first shifts that night! (She did an awesome job!) Thank you so much for having us Savages and team! You will definitely be seeing us again!

Brilliant visit to the new savages mussel bar. We have always been a fan since discovering these guys at the picturedrome and followed through to the red willow and absolutely thrilled they've opened their own place. The food did not disappoint. A lovely little restaurant meaning the atmosphere was fantastic. Despite being busy the service was fab too. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is a fan of seafood.

Had the seafood Platter tonight mith my mrs, all I can say it AMAZING. The mussels where so soft and the flavours where amazing! The fish fingers where beautifully done but my personal favourite was the popcorn mussels! They where out of this world! Will definitely be returning there food far exceeded my expectations and the mussels where by far the best I had ever had. In my opinion this is a must go place to eat!

I can honestly say the best Mussels I've ever had and I've been all over Europe. Don't expect a cheap meal and when it's this good it's worth every penny. Proper sound lads, this business deserves all the support. 10/10 would eat here again.

Yummy bread with delicious garlic mussels!

Mussels with chilli and king prawns are a sensation. Flavours are balanced and not overpowered by the chilli. Portion size is generous and service was great. Thoroughly enjoyed them and will definitely order there again.

Outstanding meal, that mussel burger is incredible!

Drove here from Stoke on Trent, while in the area visiting for a few days for my birthday. Was expecting something special but was really let down. Entrance to the picturehouse didn't have any signage of what restaurants were included which was confusing. My dish didn't arrive due to a 'blip' in the ordering system, which resulted in me waiting nearly and hour for my food. During which I saw staff being handed chips between themselves by the savage mussel staff, the dish I'd ordered and was sat waiting for. When the food came, the portion is far too small for the price & the bread was stale and came with no butter. The sauce (mariner) could've been better, and the mussels came with no bowl for the empty shells. Also £6 for a tiny bowl of overcooked chips sprinkled with parmesan...not worth it. Pretty disappointed, and generally the pricturedome has a lack of starters, desserts and hot/alcoholic free beverages on their menus. Would've been nice to finish with a coffee before our long drive back, bit of a waste of time on my birthday.

Sea food platter is fantastic, if you love mussels this is the dish!

Wow this could be the best fish and chips anyone has ever made at home and puts the local chippys to shame. We've had a number off take away meals post lockdown and I can safely say this was by far the best, quality ingredients both the fish and the muscles were excellent! Big thanks to Jamie for doing the collection service so we can continue to get his great food ;-)

Had the maple & bacon pancakes not much I can say but heavenly the best I've had!

Absolutely delicious. Amongst the best I've had any where - top five? Had the steamed mussels with chilli, garlic and lemon. Beautifully presented, clean mussels, that taste amazing - a great balance between the sweetness of the mussels, the acidity of the lemon, subtle heat of chili and richness of butter. Chips very good too. Well worth venturing out to the courtyard for.

Absolutely bloody lovely!!! Shared a platter between 3 of us and devoured the lot like a pack of vultures. Just enough of everything in the right ratio... Apart from the strawberry chilli sauce which you should sell by the litre!! Will definitely be back for more x

Will always make the effort to visit @savagesmussels when there in macc or Altrincham as the Food is absolutely awesome! My personal favourites are the popcorn mussels, the doorstop fish finger butty and the mussel burger 🤤🤤🤤 Cannot wait till theses guys are full time at the picturedrome in Macclesfield so I can get my fix whenever I want 😍

Excellent food, I've had the popcorn mussels and the fish finger butty and I can honestly say the they are outstanding, best fish finger butty I've ever had!

The best fish finger sandwich that I've ever had - and those popcorn mussels are something else! Not to mention the steamed ones too. Been to a lot of Savage's Mussels' pop-ups and not one has disappointed! Can't wait to visit again!

Absolutely love the food that these guys make. The mussels are just to die for, cooked perfectly..taste amazing and are presented really well. Always a queue to get your hands on the mussels or fish finger butties. Lovely family run little business.
