Passing by one day and being married to a Frenchwoman, it pays to spot things like this. I booked online and was called moments later, apologising for the lack of a high chair for our wee laddie. No bother I cried as I was already salivating at the menu. Lewis, Esteban and the hidden Scott and Jennifer (chef and owner respectively) were awesome. Lewis was engaging but not in your face. Proudly explained the Kombucha ingredients (she had the sea buckthorn and orange whilst I went for Onion and Squash) were foraged. Everything is understated quality. The tables look roughhouse but are lived in and have a well worn sheen. The cutlery was brought to you on linen and per diner, not a jingle jangle of steelworks. We had the Brunch du Marche and Brunch Satine to share. The pastries were lush. Just enough hint of hazelnut to the chocolate filling and the creme pat wasn't too sweet, not too plain. The house baked bread was dense and flavoursome and the butter made on sight. The eggs were perfect, and seasoned to perfection and the mountain of boudoin noir (black pudd to you Scots) was super, alongside the french tatties. The salmon just oozed quality, the cheese and charcuterie were served at the right temperature and even my coffee cup had a feel to it; properly chosen by someone who cares. Our son slept peacefully for 85 minutes which was plenty to enjoy a wonderful meal in delightful surrounds. A coupe had gorgeous looking brioche rolls on a neighbouring table, and 4 chaps had the brunch and a family brought daughter and boy to another and all left happy. We will be back. Vive Satine, vive la France.

Fantastic food, professional staff and excellent atmosphere. The waiter gave great wine recommendations and was attentive but not intrusive. Can’t recommend highly enough, will come back often!

A pleasant enough experience. Nice atmosphere. Helpful waiter. My main course wasn't that warm which was disappointing. Delicious dessert.

Really nice choice of dishes, bavette, pidgeon, celeriac. Wonderfully fresh oysters (personally would have preferred them with a traditional mignonette dressing and suggest in future this should be an option). Also Tobasco is always good to have around. The only disappointing aspect was the wine list, predominantly as the cheapest available bottles started at £60. White wine wasn’t available by the glass. Champagne was £14 a glass. I couldn’t fault the food or the service so it would only take a change in the wine options to give it another star.

Stunning restaurant in a quiet street, central to town but just off the beaten track. Imaginative menu and excellently delivered, the brunch is a must have.

Had heard some good word of mouth reviews, so looked forward to trying. Could be fairly critical of overall experience for the £££ level but in fairness we felt it was a bit a bad night for the team. The food has potential to be very good (it was good) but the chef was trying to help cover the front of house and this affected the food and service time. Ordering wine was a challenge - first bottled ordered not available, wine offered as alternative was not fair substitute. Second choice ordered was not presented but just short of an hour in the restaurant, with starter been and gone, and main imminent it seemed better to accept (although noticed next day still got charged for more expensive choice:). Why not give it one star. Because the feel of the place is good, the front of house was lacking experience but tried their best and the chef was doing well assisting front of house. Should note both tables either side were highly complementary of their food so fairs fair. Would still give it another go and hopefully see it on a good night.

Best meal I’ve had in the last five years in Edinburgh. It’s taken me too long to try Satine but so glad I did. The monkfish was sublime and the mussels starter honestly was so fresh and so deliciously poached in a frothy light wine sauce I could have eaten it all evening. A Breton waiter and a Scottish chef, what’s not to love about this fantastic addition to the neighbourhood.

I took my mom here for brunch while she was visiting and we loved it! We each had the set brunch with cafe au lait’s and the blueberry kambucha, everything was absolutely delicious. The portions are generous and the presentation is wonderful! Easily one of the best in Edinburgh. Our waiter was incredible and very nice, and the atmosphere was so lovely- cannot recommend enough

Satine has exceptional food and a warm intimate atmosphere. Our waiter provided fantastic service and was incredibly friendly. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place for brunch (or anything else for that matter) in Stockbridge.

First time i eaten there and this was the best meal I've had in years. Between Esteban, who ran front of house, and the chef (who's name I didn't get) the whole experience was sublime. Everyone at the table was blown away by the food and service. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. We will definitely be going back.

My wife and I went here for dinner last night. The food was sensational. A mix of classically elegant French cooking, with some newer exciting ideas. Great wine list too, including quite a tasty wine from Georgia.

We had a table of 6 booked for a birthday celebration, which turned out to be a joyous occasion. The food was delightful in a very relaxed atmosphere. The Lyrac wine we had was superb, and the waiter was very attentive. When we booked we asked for a couple of things to be added to the menu, and they obliged without any fuss whatsoever. Please try this place in a tranquil setting, in one of Edinburgh's most popular streets.

My wife and I enjoyed an exceptional night here for our wedding anniversary. The food (oysters to start followed by the chateaubriand) was amazing, all cooked and seasoned perfectly, the steak in particular was up there with the best I've ever had. Drinks were also brilliant (a glass of champagne followed by a bottle of red recommended by the waiter/sommelier which complimented the main course perfectly). But the real wow factor of this place was the service, the gentleman running front of house really made the evening - charming, knowledgeable and attentive - he even poured us a generous glass of cognac on the house upon hearing it was our anniversary. Nice atmosphere throughout the evening and authentic French décor also allowed us to forget the dreich Scottish weather outside. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough, we'll definitely be returning.

Awful experience. We booked for birthday brunch. It was like fawlty towers. Complete disaster from start to finish. The food was awful, took over an hour to ok come out and my croque monsoir had parchment paper stuck to it. It took me 25 mins to get the waiters attention to ask for brown sugar, my coffee was cold by the time it came. Such a shame because this place had the potential to be amazing but it was such a let down and ruined my Dad’s birthday. So stressful watching the waiter run around the place and continually slam the door every time he went to the kitchen.

A lovely new restaurant in St Stephen’s Street - a great small space with equally great service, food and wine. Serving many French classics and if flambéd tarte tatin is on the menu… it’s a must!

A friend and I visited this lovel establishment, mainly for tea and coffee. Since the appetite desired it, could not resist and ordered the very classic scottish breakfast platter. The portion was satisfying, with a simple yet harmonius presentation and the taste was just right. The staff were absolutely great, did service with a smile and checked on our table a couple of times to make sure everything is okay. If you are in the area, definitely check this place out. ^_ ^ <3

Bruschetta pleasant base tasting well with the tomatoes gently heated with a careful touch of seasoning to bring up their natural flavour. Calamari lightly cooked, pleasantly al dente and not tough. The seasoned coating was good. It's now rarer to be given "tender" calamari as (in my experience) they have to be good and fresh, then cooked promptly and briefly. But September is a good month and the Forth supports shoals of same, so little excuse other than a chef's casual timing. The ravioli was my second dish but I swapped it with my sister who had ordered a rack of lamb. Though looking well grilled, it was found to be effectivly raw. My bent, is for meat served blue but not raw. Unlike beef, lamb on the bone becomes difficult to cut as any slightly warmed adjoining fat becomes extremely slippy and exceedingly difficult to cut. And eating, without resorting to chewing! makesw a nonsense of "tender" lamb. By ignoring the fat, I still enjoyed it but found the waitress's response as to why it was so little cooked..... unsatisfactory ..... apparently "an In-house" style yet not mentioned on the menu ? So glad the chef doesn't have a preference for raw potatoes ! I'll check next time. regards John Perreur-Lloyd
