Amazing food, as always. The service was top notch. The lady serving us, named NITHARSA, was really friendly, helpful and genuinely competent. Little suggestion about the atmosphere. Some people sitting around were extremely loud. The management should keep an eye on this and request such customers to keep the noise level down so that it does not get disturbing and infuriating for others.

From the moment we were seated, she was warm, welcoming. Very disappointed with dinner and service by Priya at 4.45pm. The restaurant was not busy so service and food should have been very good. We ordered 2 masala dosa. They arrived cold. Gaurav served me, I immediately told him my dosa is cold and he said it's meant to be cold and it gets cold. I told him it is not meant to be cold and it is meant to be hot and fresh and I would like a fresh one. He reluctantly made me another masala dosa and it came hot and crispy like it should have in the first place. There was no water on our table or cups or serviettes. We asked for no chillies in our masala dosa however there were five large green chilies in the masala which could have been easily removed before serving the food. The samber was very chilli. We asked Priya our waitress if we could have a small pot of yogurt as the food was too chilly in replacement for the samber. She said NO you cannot have a small pot of yoghurt and we were told we can only buy a large pot of yoghurt. We asked to speak to the manager and we were told the manager is on a break and she doesn't know when he would return. The whole experience was very uncomfortable. We don't come to dinner to receive stress... we come out to eat, enjoy our food, and have good service and a good time. Priya the waitress completely ruined our whole experience..

We had a little tea break and takeaway at Saravana Bhavan Ilford. Swathi waited on us and was extremely helpful. She was patient with the kids and provided some good advice regarding the choice of dishes. All in all it made for a very pleasant experience.

Me and my daughter come here often, I liked the food very much I really like their “rava onion masala dosa’. I was so disappointed with the presentation of the food, chutney was chucked onto the plate and it was falling off from the sides and some of it was on the dosa. Please work on the presentation of the food. Apart from that everything was good.

When you order mini idly in sambhar for take away, they don’t give sambhar for other dishes like idli & dosa. When you call them reply is use the sambhar given for mini idli, are we not paying for all dishes?

I usually enjoy the food here, but this time my experience wasn’t great. I specifically requested no cabbage, but they still included it. On top of that, the service was slow, and the portion size felt small for the price. Hoping for better attention to details next time..

This is definitely the best Indian restaurant in East London. We come from Romford just to eat here. All the service staff are great, especially Bindu.

Saravanan Bhavan has long been a go-to for South Indian vegetarian cuisine and are frequent customers. Our recent visit to their Ilford Cranbrook Road location, however, revealed a restaurant resting on its laurels, desperately in need of a refresh. While the food remains acceptable, the overall experience is marred by a sense of staleness and neglect. Let's start with the ambience. The double-fronted, two-level space boasts solid wooden tables, comfortable padded chairs, and spot lighting. Yet, the restaurant's 15+ years in business are painfully evident. The décor feels tired, the menu hasn't seen an update in ages (presented on the same old plastic cards), and even the furniture, especially the chairs, showing its age. A wobbly staircase bannister knob that detached in my hand perfectly symbolized the restaurant's overall decline. The cramped entrance, now further congested by delivery drivers jostling with oversized Uber bags, hardly creates a welcoming first impression. The food itself is a mixed bag. The dosa, a signature dish, was indeed crispy and colourful, served with the usual dipping sauces. However, my rava dosa was disappointingly plain, lacking filling and any real depth of flavour. The accompanying mutting and puri with chola was large, impressive, and tasty. Idly is a rice like boba breads served with spicy dipping sauces. And Plain naan bread is a traditional Indian flatbread. The menu is minefield of hit and miss dishes. Some oily messes, but if you're after dosa, then stick to the dosa menu. Definitely not worth the premium they once commanded. Prices, on average, have increased £2 per dish. Quality has declined 50%. The real cause for concern, however, lies with the restaurant's cleanliness. The state of the restrooms was frankly appalling. No toilet paper, unclean facilities, a strategically placed yellow "wet floor" sign (wedging the men's door open for 15+ years), and non-functional taps made handwashing a game of "whack-a-mole." A cleaning rota showing the toilets last cleaned in 2015 raised serious questions about the hygiene of the entire establishment, especially the kitchen. The service, while pleasant and not overtly friendly, felt strained. Overworked waitresses and a general air of laxity among the management staff contributed to the sense of decline. It's clear that Saravanan Bhavan is struggling to maintain its once-held position as Ilford's premier dosa destination. With increasing competition from places like Yummy Dosa on Cranbrook Road and Royale Spice Dosa in Gants Hill corner, their lack of innovation, declining cleanliness, and inattention to detail are pushing customers away. Saravanan Bhavan needs a serious overhaul. A thorough cleaning, a menu refresh, and a renewed focus on customer experience.

We went to saravanaa bhavan in Ilford. The place was clean and very well maintained. The staff there were welcoming. We were served by Litharsha who was kind and swift in serving us. The food was delicious. We highly recommend this place.

I visited ilford branch, I’m not satisfied with the food taste, I heard a lot of positive reviews about the food so I want to try but I didn’t felt the south india taste. I ordered Gobi Manchuria, dosa, butter naan, malai kofta, chilli paneer, kothu parota. Dosa and kothu parota was good other than that I didn’t felt any taste in other foods. Customer service is really good. But the food is not tasty.
