Very tasty pizza, would come again and as an italian it fits to our standards at home, very happy with how it turned out!

Was there last Thursday night nice chilled out place to have a drink. Staff and dj were friendly. Will deffo be back when up cardiff again.

Bewildering service, black/dark haired woman was completely aggressive and angry with us. We were just sitting there like normal costumers, everything was a chore and annoyed her. Why run a restaurant if that's how you feel?

Wonderful service, food and price. The best restaurant in Cardiff where you can choose dishes cooked with love. Also, being very central you should not miss going to try their food. Even if you come at odd hours, they will assist you with a smile.

Excellent starters and delicious thin and crispy pizzas. Service was prompt and efficient on a busy Saturday evening. £30 a head including wine. Just watch as they do add an (optional) service charge to the bill rather than letting you choose to leave a tip.

So welcoming and friendly, a lovely place to eat delicious authentic food and wait for the train, really glad we went in

Ater reading the reviews we visited the restaurant. It was quiet and we were welcomed to our table. We shared a starter of Nachos. It was actually a plate of tortilla chips with mozzarella cheese on top with some spicy pasata. Nothing else, no salsa, no guacamole. I then had seafood pasta which was spaghetti (dried not fresh) with some heated up frozen mixed seafood with a watery liquid at the bottom of the bowl. My partner had spaghetti with meatballs in a spicy pasata sauce. There were 3 meatballs. When it was pointed out there were only 3 meatballs the waitress said that all that trading standards require us to give.! Very disappointing. To be fair some other tables had pizza which looked quite nice. But for what we had I think 3 stars is generous

Staff were friendly enough but the food was dreadful, ordered lasagna, tiny portion, no garnish, salad, the food was microwaved and watery, expensive for what it was, won't be returning

Myself my parter, my sister and her partner all dined here on Friday night. Firstly, without a booking the owner kindly managed to get us a table The food from starters to desert was absolutely fantastic I couldn't recommend this place anymore.. Maria the owner was always around and the young guy named Monty behind the bar was second to none, they both worked together perfectly Both the Merlot and Sauvignon was sampled and no complaints Would highly recommend this place! PS, there is a sign to say try the calamari and we did - 10/10 Thank you again

My partner and I stumbled across this restaurant Saturday afternoon whilst looking for lunch. We were first dubious as neither of us knew it and it was empty. What we actually stumbled upon was actually a fantastic restaurant! The food was beautiful and the chef took pride in his cooking and came to check everything was good with it. The food was faultless and we will definitely be back! Great find making the most of a few hours baby free!

Food was pretty good but sauce for my pasta could have used some salt but there were no condiments on the table,if you stay at the backpackers' next door and they tell you 20% discount that is food only,not beverages, service was friendly

Waiting 2 hours for a meal. Couldn't eat all together as all come out separate. Had lasagne and garlic bread. Lasagne really small for £10 now salad with it garlic bread rock hard.

Manager woman was really aggressive. Any time we spoke to her she looked annoyed. We asked if the loud music could be turned down a touch and were told that's how it is, but they then turned it down when couple other people came in. Owner guy and young lad were friendly, but unfortunately we only talked once, then had the manager again. She went on a long rant to us about how horrible every other restaurant was compared to theirs. I always give a tip, even if the service is questionable because I realise it helps them out, especially with covid. Asked her to add a tip on, then she held the card machine above my head at the table and I paid without thinking about it. Later on I saw my charge and it was more than I asked her to add on. That's possibly why she held the machine above my head, it's because she knew she was possibly cheating customers. I'd be really careful if you pay a bill there, check it. Personally I'd go somewhere else as the service was so awful. Honestly can't fathom how they keep going. To add further, I've since seen similar complaints online. Their preference is to attack the reviewers, rather than look to themselves as the cause of the problems we report. Avoid like the plague.

Me and my friends have been regular visitors at Santa Maria for a few years now. They have the best service, so friendly & will go above and beyond for you. It’s a great location and have a nice outside area for the summer (also sheltered). The best home made Italian food & cocktails! Wi-Fi is also available here.

Eu estive no hostel e na Pizzeria, e conheci uma das pessoas mais receptivas para mim de muitos restaurantes e hostel que eu já fui. O conforto e tranquilidade do hostel é genial, mas as pulseiras que eles dão para colocar no braço e abrir as portas eu sinceramente achei revolucionário, partindo da questão que, a gente sempre perde os cartões ou nos prendemos para o lado de fora quando eles nos dão cartões magnéticos. O hostel é limpo, faz parte do restaurante e o térreo na parte de baixo tem um bar muito bonito e aconchegante. Mas além de tudo isso o que mais me agradou nessa história toda foi a recepção da governanta dos estabelecimentos, hostel e restaurante. Criei uma conexão gigantesca com ela. Pessoas quando são bem vindas e bem tratadas, sempre querem voltar. E esse é um ambiente que eu voltaria com sucesso e faço das minhas palavras á mesma do meu amigo que viajou comigo e se hospedou lá também !

Carbonara was not cooked the Italian way! Manager (lady short black hair stomping around) was very aggressive & rude with customers, created bad atmosphere. Bad memories, bad experience, charged service charge to be bullied :( Never again.

Delicious, authentic food, good wine choice attentive, great customer service, facilities all clean and fine, restaurant pretty little groundfloor slice of a huge Victorian/Georgian townhouse right in the heart of the town centre. Everything to love about this place!

This hostel was very disappointing, mould showers, dirty toilets and the bed was itchy with thin covers. The breakfast is a disappointing croissant and tea or coffee but a little more effort, maybe even just putting them on a plate instead of out of a bag might go a long way. In the week it was quiet but on the weekend when it fills up your guests have no lounge area and hang out in the hallways. On checking in the older gentleman at the desk first gave me the room gave me the room key for a girls only dorm much to the surprise and embarrassment of myself and the girl I walked in on. There was also a woman who made a point of saying "Hi, how are you?" When I asked to check out. I actually agree that people shouldn't forget those basic manners but to be honest I just wanted to get out of there. On the other hand this is the most reasonably priced hostel and it is in a good location, however there are others, if you're looking for cheap you'll find it here, in every sense of the word.

VERY GOOD Italian in the centre of Cardiff. The products are very good quality and the plates are balanced in taste and quantity. If you fancy an Italian meal it's absolutely recommended 👌🏻ps I am from Italy so I can tell ;)

Staff weren't friendly and gave us the feeling that they wanted us to leave. They also have a strange system where they call you over once drinks are ready for you to collect them. Cocktails weren't that tasty and not worth the price.

The waitress was so rude, customer service is equal to 0. Stomping around restaurant like a soldier and making inappropriate jokes in a very impolite manner.

Very friendly staff, excellent food and lovely atmosphere! I will be eating here again.

SantaMaria serves very, very good pizza. It ranks among the best I've tried outside Italy. Their other dishes are of good quality too. A great experience!

I’m really unhappy about my experience at Santa Maria Cardiff , I sat down on one of the chairs as it was raining and four rude and abusive workers , physically picked me up and threw me to the floor after sitting down for two minutes as they thought I wasn’t planning on buying anything and wouldn't let me stay for dry under their umbrellas for a few minutes. Then the woman with short black hair with glasses commented on my friends teeth saying “you need to fix your teeth” which I think is completely out of order and uncalled for for someone who looked as though there were the manager or the boss position . Not only this I am now returning to my home with a really sore side after being thrown to the ground for wanting a bit of shelter, I recommend you stay clear of Santa Maria for your own safety, if your looking for a local authentic Italian in Cardiff I suggest yes! Italian or Giovannis both a very close walk from the town centre!

I was there yesterday for the firs time. None of the staff was wearing a mask! As if that was not enough, they were coming very close while taking the orders. Mate, if you cannot keep your mask on your chin does not mean you are wearing it guys!!! I warned one of their waiters, he looked at my face and wore it back until his nose! Jesus Christ. Never going there again. IF they cannot even keep their mask on while serving people, I wonder how they prepare the orders!

Spaghetti Scoglio big joke. Horrible. Boiled pasta, boiled frozen seafood, no sauce, no salt no taste. I can't believe a chef can send a plate like this to the customers. Shame of you.

Warm Friendly welcome, great atmosphere, good range of food & drinks available, Staff were helpful & knew their products & also offered new cocktail tasters & sought honest input, easy going vibe & layout and clean decor & rest room available, I will return when I'm back in Cardiff

Had a "proper" Italian pizza and a nice glass of Peroni lunchtime today. The authenticity, service and ambience is great and I would highly recommend. Will definitely return next time I'm in Cardiff.

The pizza Not authentic italian (not even saying Napolitan, as that would be just too far of a stretch.....) I found it very upsetting that I ordered a Margherita and it didn't come with basil. I asked and they said they were out of it. The dough is on those you buy at Tesco. Tomato sauce and cheese are of good quality and that helps a lot, and the stone oven almost saves it but the thickness of the dough and too much of the toppings make it just another pizza that could have gone right, but didn't. Plus, no basilico is unacceptable. I can't say it was a complete waste of 9 pounds, but definitely not a good choice. Ragazzi... c'mon

Lovely Italian restaurant had the £8.95 pizza and beer or soft drink the pizza was delicious and covered in topping and the chef was very friendly .My husband said it was the best pizza he had every eaten for freshness/topping/authentic tasting and believe me when I say he has eaten hundreds of pizzas

Good location and very friendly staff! Arancini Sicilian tasted amazing! I also enjoyed the buffalo pizza very much as the dough was crispy and ingredients were very fresh. The rocket salad was also very refreshing with its honey mustard dressing. I wouldn’t order the margarita pizza again, the dough was a bit soggy comparing to the buffalo pizza.
