Really nice Cafe by the beach and have visited over many years ..albeit occasionally. I can honestly say it has improved year on year. Saturday morning and its not long opened for business....a nice welcome from everyone ....service time of food really good. This next line is purely for the people who operate the cafe.... ...keep doing what you are doing it really works. Just a couple of little things .... when picking from the menu and looking for a vegetarian breakfast there are only a few items you can choose which fit this criteria ....the young lady serving was a little officious without being knowledgeable of the laminated menu card......followed by hand gestures (as if people were not looking at the menu properly) she got her information wrong by the way......Whereas the young man on the till ( won't use names but is a Uni student) ....was much more helpful and informative of combinations which worked for us. We aren't silly or petty but really appreciate good customer service and this was the only blip. We would normally leave a gratuity but on this occasion.....not. It won't stop us from continuing to come and enjoy the food and good service by nearly everyone. 🙏

Can't fault the service or food. View also excellent. Before visiting I looked at previous reviews. We used to have a dog, we love dogs, but it is no longer the odd dog causing issues. Seems many have multiple dogs and owners are deaf to the yapping. When we go for coffee/food we want a peaceful environment - no yapping dogs and their inconsiderate owners. Whilst dogs may be "part of the family" for some, what about those who are allergic? Dogs should not be permitted in food establishments - I wish it was legislated for like Ireland! I'm pleased no doggy interraction at Sands, so we will be back

When walking in all tables had to unclean plates and cutlery. When taking our order they touched it with their hands after touching hair. Sharp knife’s were unattended. When asked to clean a table they brought a dirty cloth over and wiped the crumbs and stuff onto our laps. There hair is going all over fresh food

Fabulous all round experience. Very friendly and helpful staff definitely made the experience special. The breakfast was the best I have had for a very long time - fresh and perfectly cooked and presented so nicely on the plate - compliments to the chef but also the suppliers of the great ingredients. Had the small breakfast minus baked beans and was very generous serving. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back to try the delicious looking cakes!

Been 10 months since our last visit. It is rare that a place can be so consistently excellent over a long period of time. Staff must change but they always seem to come up with lovely, dedicated people, serving an impressive range of food. To call Sands a beech cafe is to undervalue - maybe because its informal and cafe style. But restaurant quality.

Visited today for breakfast and was not disappointed. Arrived and got the usual quick, friendly greeting. We were offered a table inside or outside, sat inside as it was a bit chilly. We ordered the cooked breakfasts along with the Breakfast Stack from the specials board & OMG it was special! It comes with black pudding, egg & bacon on a brioche bun with cheese sauce. As I’m not a fan of black pudding they swapped it for smacked salmon, it was absolutely delicious! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the mix of salmon & bacon was surprisingly tasty. The cheese sauce was very subtle, not over-poweringly cheesy. I would highly recommend this! The cooked breakfasts were equally good and we came away full and happy. (With delicious homemade cakes for later) It’s a cracking cafe, great location, delicious food, but the best bit has to be the staff, so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Service was really quick too (although not rushed) which was great as they were pretty busy, If you haven’t been, get yourself along!!

This family friendly venue was a welcome respite from the cold, foggy beach. Normal Scottish summer, and the brave and determined were sticking it out on the beach. A bit of a queue, with the usual distancing measures in place.A very friendly welcome and as the inside was full, we sat at an outside table overlooking the beach. Service was great throughout. I was very tempted by the Chowder but went instead for a burger. The food was presented nicely but the burger itself was really poor, which was disappointing. Had a nice hot chocolate, so left slightly warmer than I arrived.Fine location, great potential, but on this experience, we won’t be rushing back. Go for the chowder!

Food is always very good here - so much better than you might expect from a beech cafe - although this is in every way far better than your average beech cafe! We are fairly regular visitors and are always impressed. But their best rating is service. Their Covid process is simple but very effective. The whole operation is very professional. Very busy people all being very busy people - but never compromising on spending that little bit of time making sure. Its a joy to watch. I can think of a few restaurants with fantastic reputations who should send their staff here as a training away day!

We visited the cafe a couple of weeks ago and along with tea and coffee, we devoured the wonderful mincemeat pies that the chef had including his own mincemeat which was truly succulent and the pastry was wonderfully buttery. A portion of pouring cream on the side tomcomoliment. Sands cafe is in a lovely setting with views across to the water towards Edinburgh. This is a place that people can visit in the safe knowledge that the Covid procedures in place are of the highest standard which is a credit to the owners and their fully trained staff who are always welcoming friendly and helpful.Sands Cafe is definitely worth a visit, you will not be disappointed.

This was a quick visit after the disappointment of finding the towns herbal shop closed due to storm damage. The Sands is a spacious restaurant situated on Silver Sands Beach at Aberdour. A very pleasant, bright atmosphere is complemented by staff who were really nice, friendly and helpful. The restaurant has been made as covid safe as is possible with decorative partitioning between tables. As i said it was unfortunately a fleeting visit. We had excellent tea and scones with butter and jam. My friend assures me that full meals are excellent quality. Prices are reasonable. The real plus is the amazing views over the Firth of Forth toward Edinburgh City. The Sands is a short car ride from Aberdour Town.

Wow what an unexpected find along our leisurely exploration of the Fife coastal route. Firstly the location is superb overlooking a lovely sandy beech and if you look carefully Edinburgh Castle across the Firth of Forth.Secondly the food we both opted for the seafood chowder and it was simply excellent, obviously home made with lots of fish and mussels in a rich creamy chowder. Thirdly really friendly and helpfully staff and a creat post Covid system that worked.

This was my first experience dining out since lock-down and I was very impressed with the measures implemented to make both staff and visitors safe. No half-mast masks here. Full precautions taken, space-requesting stickers and hand sanitisers everywhere, a check at the door prior to entry and space on the menu on which to write our details should they prove necessary later on. Despite these strangest of times, we were made very welcome by all the staff with whom we interacted. I had visited just once before, approximately 8 months ago and the cafe was full, even on an uninspiring day outside. It was interesting to see that the atmosphere hadn't diminished during the intervening time, despite the vastly different circumstances, and with fewer diners due to the necessary spacing.Oh, and the food. Well I had ham and onion soup with oatcakes. Delicious. My friend had a panini which also looked very tasty.Big shout-out to Claire, who found time to have a wee chat with us as she scrubbed down a nearby table. I hope all goes well both with the business and domestically.Thank you!

A large group of us were going to be at the beach today and wanted to warm up in the Cafe afterwards. I called earlier in the week to tell them there would be approximately 20-25 of us. Ended up being closer to 30 of us and we arrived early. The staff did not miss a beat. The lady that greeted me (sorry I forget her name... maybe Gail?) immediately jumped into action and made sure we had enough tables. Althought the queue was long to order food, the process went quite quickly and the food even came out relatively fast.My only complaint would be the food itself. My sandwich was fine but the lentil soup left a to be desired. And unfortunately one of our group ordered the fish n chips with beans and that was not good at all. I think most of the rest of the group were happy though I didn't talk to everyone. The mac n cheese was piping hot and good and the drinks were all hot and good. Definitely will be back and on a not so busy day I'm sure would be great.

Family of 6 for a long lunch and exchange of Christmas presents. This was an equidistant spot for both parties coming together. Just perfect! In the goodbyes, we though that didn’t pick up a bag of presents. After an hours journey home we realised this! Contacted staff by messenger (FB) and the staff all went the extra mile to search for the gifts possibly left. They then checked the cameras and supplied images. They also looked outside and around the building. Care and attention to helping us was exceptional and genuine from Nova and staff at Sands, A Place by the Sea.Please note VisitScotland, this was 5 star customer service, going beyond any of my expectations. Been here a number of times with my family and cant fault the food, service etc. all first class. Biggest problem was the fact it was cash only for a long time. Stopped for a rest with the dog on Sunday and was glad to see cards now accepted, but the issue is a £10 minimum spend. All I wanted was a coffee and a cake. Left disappointed as I didn't need £10 worth of food for the rest of the coastal path walk. Bear that in mind if you're a solo walker/cyclist.

What a great place situated right on the beach at Aberdour. I arrived for a walk with my dog and left with a belly full of freshly baked cherry scone, jam and cream. The staff couldn’t be more accommodating of all the requests I heard, even having vegetarian haggis! Someone else on tripadvisor wrote they could have been in California and I could agree more. The food choice is excellent from locally sourced fish and sea food to lovely home baked scones and cakes. The cheesecake looked delicious. My friend and I both had baked potatoes with tuna and cheese. It was served up with a lovely side salad. The menu is varied and has some unusual additions but all the normal choices like macaroni etc. It is extremely busy which is testament to the quality of the food. They open for breakfast and do a full Scottish or just rolls on whatever you might choose. The waiting staff are very helpful and efficient. The food was delivered in no time. I plan to go back soon as I am sure my daughter would love the location.

I visited this afternoon with my husband and daughter. The cakes and treats all looked so good but we decided on cheese scones which were delicious and then had amazing ice cream which we were told was made on the premises today (raspberry and pistachio and blackberry crumble, yum!) Great wee stop overlooking the beach, stunning views and to top it all off very friendly staff and service.

Fair enough the staff were friendly enough but we were on a nursery trip from West Lothian and unfortunately it was very wet, we wanted to try and find somewhere to dry off and eat, found this place and as me and my sister were going to order food we thought it would be ok for the girls to eat their food brought with them in, however not the case, we were told we couldn’t eat in there if the kids weren’t ordering anything, as kids are 3, 1 and 6 weeks wouldn’t allow us to do so as we were going to order food but no they asked us to leave and sent children out in the rain with their food because we couldn’t eat food we brought with us, plus if we paid for a sandwich (which btw were £6 odds) but didn’t get the chance to as we were told we couldn’t eat outdoor food in the place so they left 3 children out in the rain and cold to eat their food, I know it’s not normal to bring your own food in but it was wet and cold...... not ideal picnic weather......

Stop at this little gem after a walk around. Everything was fantastic. The food, the staff and the setting were excellent. Will be back again for sure.

Good choice of food and well served. Sandwich and bread options were extensive and what we had was a good serving. Not overly expensive.

Lovely friendly staff, great views and the best seafood chowder. The cakes looked amazing though we never tried them. Outside smelt like real seaside!

Visit here frequently and the food is always fresh and cakes delicious. The staff are very friendly, I’ve attended after wild swimming at aberdour on a number of occasions, and they always try to accommodate us in all our layers.

Having stopped here in passing for years we decided to have lunch, what a disappointment it was, 40 minutes of waiting and £35 lighter for 2 chicken burgers and chips, 2 cans and 3 pieces of homebaking, very over cooked chips and a burger which was chucked together, no dogs allowed inside so had to takeaway, quite a busy place, all in all but disappointing food, the homebaking was “ok”. But the wait was horrendous, a lot of staff no really doing much.

Visited at a peak time (Friday of Bank Holiday weekend). The beach and restaurant both very busy. Despite this the staff turned around our order very quickly.

A nice friendly wee cafe that exceeded expectations in some ways and fell short against expectations in others.

Lovely position on silver sands with excellent views. Was busy & staff were friendly & efficient to deal with demand. The seafood chowder was excellent & just what needed after a long walk. Coffee was good. Cake had nice flavour but unfortunately the sponge was a little dry. Would return again if in the area

Stopped off for a coffee to enjoy the hreat view over the sea. Ordered a coffee. Oh. My. God. Do not order coffee here. It is weak amd watery. £2.50 so overpriced as well. Hard to overstate how bad it was. Undrinkable. Great view though.

3 sisters and a Mammy stopped here for lunch whilst visiting the gorgeous Aberdour beach. We were expecting a nice sandwich or maybe a nice bowl of soup. What we got was top restaurant quality food with the added bonus of good old fashioned home baking for dessert. The Seafood chowder was simply fab along with every single thing. Not one complaint. The staff were some of the nicest, friendliest people, and couldn’t do enough to help. 10/10!

Went for steak night but extremely disappointed. Asked for medium steak but was more rare.Few soggy chips, hard peas and two underdone soggy onion rings. No salad as advertsed. Food was also cold. Asked for a prosecco and was told had no cold ones . Was given small one off top shelf behind bar but when I opened it it was completely flat and very yellow so I think it must have been on the shelf a long while! Lady opened big bottle which again came from top shelf so was not cold but was bubbly. Can't believe there was no bottles in wine fridge. Sticky toffee pudding was good though. Seeing as there was just one other couple in the restaurant there really was no excuse for steak meal being so poor as kitchen not rushed. Won't be rushing back!!!

Great location on the Old Course. Beautiful modern terrace on the top floor with stunning views across the fairways to the sea. So wanted to like this place but were disappointed. Food was standard golfing fare - steaks and lobster - OK but nothing special . Wine list reasonable for price and choice. What lets the place down is the lack of management oversight. Tables with broken legs, jet lagged golfers asleep in the lobby, incredibly noisy ambience all overseen by a well meaning but overwhelmed serving staff. Not what you expect when paying $400 for a meal for two. Dinner took three and a half hours. We had to track down staff to order wine, coffee and get the check. Could be a good dining alternative to the Old Course Hotel but its let down badly by the service. Seems its owned by one of those absentee investment companies and it shows .

When the weather turns cold, shops closed, you don’t want a restaurant, just a cuppa, Alexander and George will make you welcome. Enticed by the chips! Feel much better now. Thanks guys!

Had afternoon Tea today(Sunday). The view is stunning, overlooking the golf course and the Forth. We had to wait around 10 minutes and received 4 types of sandwiches, a plain scone and fruit scone and a variety of cakes. The scones were some of the best I’ve ever had- warm from the oven, the cakes were light. We received a bottle of water and large pot of tea but had to ask for glasses. The toilets were a bit more dated than the restaurant but clean

Arranged to meet friends here for a lunch and a catch up. This is a very popular visit with very pleasant surroundings through a very large conservatory contributing to a very well lit area. There are a number of tables within the conservatory and your extensive menu is on the table. There are hot and cold food choices ordered at the server and brought to your table. We opted for chicken and rice soup and tomato and vegetable soup. To accompany the soup we ordered cheese and onion toasties and cheese and ham. We had carrot cake put aside for later that was the last of it. The chicken soup had a distinct homemade stock flavour with generous amounts of chicken through the rice and veg. The toasties came with crisps and side salad and coleslaw on the side. They were very well cooked with a generous filling. Finally the piece de resistance the home baking carrot cake came bursting with flavour very moist and topped with a very sweet icing. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and will definitely be back.
