San Marco is a place we would normally go for a nice meal, it’s a decent Italian, apart for the loud massive open dining area which sounds like a school canteen. Food however is always very nice. But Table booked for 8pm Quick nip to the ladies which were disgraceful with water spilling across the sink area, blocked toilets (no signage). They were busy granted but it’s simple, don’t book out so many tables if you can’t cope with the numbers. Within a minute of sitting down we were asked for our order. We obliged as we knew what we wanted. Within 5 mins the starters were there. We asked for a delay for our 2nd course as we had a taxi home for 10pm and didn’t want a rush. Its not cheap there either and there was only my hubby and I 🤷🏼‍♀️ When we asked for this delay we were told by the waiter to ask again when the person came to take our starter plates. The person who took our plates was the same guy! But we reminded him again, out of politeness and because he looked like he either couldn’t give a crap or simply didn’t get it. The mains came 10mins after our plates were taken!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ On arrival of our mains, I explained that we had asked for a delay and to be fair, she did offer to take them back, however I couldn’t let good food go to waste (or risk our next version ‘moderated’ - that’s my paranoia 😂) so we agreed to just have it. I was done with both courses by 8.40! We were just kicking our heels after that 🤷🏼‍♀️

An excellent restaurant. Loads of staff who are very efficient and friendly. The service, . food and wine were top notch. I advise booking at weekend. In summer they seek to have an outside bar which looks excellent. Highly recommend .

Been to San Marco quite a few times now but never reviewed. It’s a lovely big restaurant and looks the part. Very good food and service every time we’ve been with friends or family. Never a long wait for food and the lunch time deal is excellent

Initial entrance hosting was average at best questioning our booking which was made by telephone 24 hours earlier. Ordering was good but starters arrived very separately and one of them had to be asked for to arrive. Main meals were excellent but a bottle of red wine that we ordered came to the table and the waiter could not open the bottle and snapped the cork . He went away and came back and failed again. He came back and opened it but that was poor. Ordered drinks and whisky came in correct glass but with ice which was specifically not ordered and the grey goose martini arrived in a whisky tumbler with the excuse that they have no glasses. We were then charged for three shots of grey goose on the bill which is in forgivable after complaining about the charging of three shots. Not acceptable. Great food but very poor service let them down. Lots of young people in the team but no experience showing them the right way to look after people that are paying there hard earned cash for a service and experience . Won’t be rushing back in a hurry.

Great atmosphere with plenty of buzz, the staff are well presented, helpful and friendly. There was a wide variety of choice and the food was very nicely presented and tasted even better, quality produce and great value for money.

Been today for lunch with several friends. Food and service although they were extremely busy was excellent and great choice of menu to suit everyone. Would definately recommend and Thankyou San Marco for a lovely Christmas lunch.

When I was here several years ago it was very noisy with high ceilings in the main room, now they have lowered the ceiling, but it's still very noisy. Unbelievably this Italian restaurant serves Foccacia that looks so much like a pizza base that it is a pizza base, please do not say it is Foccacia, it isn't! I had a pizza special with 'Nduja, Gorgonzola, Mozzarella & Honey, sadly it was served on the Foccacia, sorry Pizza base, which was unedable as it was under cooked and very chewy, no crispy crust just chewy. Another dish was ordered as extra spicy, but arrived with no spices. After complaining it returned spicy. Italian restaurants need to step up their game. Visit Italian and Good Italian restaurants in Roma, Napoli, Modena etc. Then try to make proper poolish pizza dough and up the temperature in your oven. Maybe I'll be back. arrivederci!

Had a great meal here with friends on an early Saturday evening. Service was great as was the food and wine. It was really busy, considering how early we were. Would definitely visit again.

We booked a table last minute and boy we were not disappointed,met with a warm welcome the service was excellent the food was amazing fresh warm and delicious, great atmosphere really put me and the wife in the Christmas spirit we even booked a table for the 17th Dec to go back with friends.

Bright, spotless, large, comfy and modern. Service was good and staff approachable and friendly. Good so far but ultimately let down by the food. Left Basil off my Bruschetta leaving it bland. Taglitelli Bolognese was too dry and also bland. Pizzas ordered by others looked good and no complaints. Good portiin sizes. Prawn Linguine and the ribs were also good said the missus. In summary, a bit more hit than miss but there can be no excuse for leaving off a key ingredient. Did I raise this at the time - no. It only came to me later that the Basil was missing explaining the bland taste.

Another Year, Another PAGB Inter Club Print Championships - must be time to support the San Marco Group of restaurants. Same high standard of food, service and great ambience. Tagliatelle, Carbonara et Al. All fine. Desserts included Tiramisu, of course, Macaroon Selection and an amazing Chocolate and Cream creation (don't ask). To finish, Americano and Macciato x 2. The management of this place is shocking. Firstly, the what seems to be the managers of this place scream at their staff infront of customers, which is beyond shocking! Especially since majority of their staff are children. Very clear that they take advantage of their young children staff. I have been in another previous time, and I witnessed an older member of staff shouting and swearing yes swearing at a younger member of staff who just stood there and took it. Which is disgusting behaviour, especially a grown adult swearing. Thought being an adult, they’d know better on how to respect others and take care of their customers and staff, clearly not, the teenagers they have worker there are more mature then the adult staff which is just laughable. The managers are very disrespectful and you can tell they hate their job. I would too if I was in my 50’s working in hospitality, which is seen as a teenager job🤣🤣 I am just appalled by the way they think they are superior compared to their younger staff, which by the way the younger staff are better and more well manner may I add. They need a whole new set of management team for sure! Also, don’t even bother tipping. It all goes back into the managers pockets rather than all the staff getting tips, especially the younger staff, oh no they don’t even get a penny off the tips!!!!! The younger ones are seen doing all the work but don’t get the credit for what they do as they don’t even get their customers tips. Which is just sickening😡 more proof of how badly managed this place is and how poor the staff are. The food itself is just average. Came cold. Order a margarita pizza and it was like eat rubber. Cold and chewy. Especially as it is an Italian you’d think they’d be good at making their specialty hahaha nope. Overall, I would not recommend anyone even stepping a foot in this place, food is below average, not what you expect for the price of the food, the managers don’t have a care in the world for their staff or there customers and they are stealing well earned tips that there staff earned just because they are lazy buggers and can’t be arsed putting in the work themselves.

We enjoyed a superb family evening at this wonderful restaurant. The delicious food, drink, service and presentation were all top class. Top marks from all our family. Highly recommended.

Attended here as a family of eight people. Lovely outdoor area with bar. New children’s play area which is a great addition. Food was amazing and service was good. My children’s food was taken away before we could ask to take it home with us as they couldn’t finish it. The restaurant made them two fresh pasta dishes to take away as an apology. Eating out has gotten so expensive now so when you do eat out you want it to be good. This restaurant didn’t disappoint. Lovely meal and lots of choice, we will be back.

Following the easing of lockdown it has been truly refreshing to go to a restaurant where I have felt safe but with a reassuring sense of normality. The staff and restaurant have put in place appropriate covid measures but ensured you can still enjoy your experience feeling safe and...NORMAL!! The lack of ugly face masks on staff (which aren't compulsory) is a welcome sight. Safe, enjoyable and great food. Would encourage everyone to get back in there!

I visited SAN Marco tonight and was amazed, you would not believe they have made any changes due to Covid. Table close, no one way system passing very close if you needed to go to the loo. The food was great, but their seemingless disregard of being in the middle of a global pandemic very close to areas with increased restriction was amazing and disappointing. We dined at San Marco this evening on the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, this being the first time that my mother-in-law has been out socially since lockdown. My husband and I have been out to two restaurants that have felt covid safe (tables removed, face coverings, tables and chairs sanitised after each use). San Marco was not one of those places.There were a couple of rows of tape on the floor upon entering and a hand sanitiser station. That was as far as it went. It almost felt that as many tables as possible had been crammed in with tables outside too. None of the staff were wearing face coverings and there was no attempt to social distance at all.We were sat at a table that was relatively apart from others and the plan was to eat and go. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. We ordered our starter which arrived within 15 minutes of ordering but then we waited over an hour for our main course which we asked about twice.To be fair, our waiter couldnt apologise enough and gave us a complimentary glass of wine each and knocked off the price of one of the meals from the bill.The food was absolutely delicious when it arrived, we couldn't fault it.Our main area of concern was the lack of measures put in place for Covid-19. When my husband paid, the lady asked him about his dining experience and he told her politely but candidly that he was not impressed.I completely understand that the hospitality industry has taken a major beating from lockdown but when other establishments are trying really hard to make it as safe as possible for guests, i was disappointed at the complete disregard for customer safety from San Marco.

To be honest the main reason for our visit was to take advantage of the government's dine out offer which turns the bill into a real bargain. That said, the success of the promotion has meant much increased clientele but the staff here don't seem to have made the necessary adjustments to make the place COVID safe. The wait staff don't seem to pay sufficient attention when dealing with diners and we both felt that they could distance much more and still perform their function. To be frank, their main focus seemed to be on serving as many as quickly as they could and if that meant compromising safety then so be it.Despite the amazing value, I doubt we will return until I believe they are properly addressing the issue.

Visited San Marco on the 24/7 for a family birthday ,the food was amazing ,even the grandchildren 4 and 6 years loved it ,so much choice , there is something to suit everybody ,the staff are well trained and very friendly which makes eating out with children easier, as for social distancing I don't think they could do any better with hand sanitisers on entry ,staff to show you directly to your table and loads of room between tables ,I could not have been more impressed ,can't wait to go back again soon

visited yesterday for lunch very poor covid precautions. hand gel station at entrance was empty so used own. Tables too close together should have left at this point but decided to stay. staff not wearing face coverings or observing social distancing ,other places I have been in recently all staff had either visors or masks, menus not wiped on removal from table. I observed the man at the bar repeatedly taking used glasses by picking them up around the lip to place in dishwasher then handling clean glasses without any evidence of the use of hand gel or hand washing washing. When he table behind us left the table cloth was changed but no wiping down of chairs /condiment.To top it off the food was poor, would definitely not recommend a visit in this current climate.

After visiting San Marco on the 5th of August for lunch I am deeply concerned for the staff and customers of this restaurant. The food was impeccable, as always, however the precautions taken to minimise transmission of Covid-19 are non-existent. The only difference is there is hand sanitiser as you walk in the the building. Easy steps that could be made are: staff wearing mask, select tables to be removed to add distance between tables, hand sanitizers on tables, bill brought to your table, pay at your table, one way system in and out. As no precautions have been taken and there is complete disregards to the fact we are in the mist of a global pandemic I will not be returning to this restaurant until the pandemic is over as other restaurants in the surrounding area have went to great lengths to protect their customers and staff and deserve my custom.

We went for dinner this evening as we live locally and had a power cut so couldn’t cook at home. We were “lucky” to get a table as it was a “eat out to help out” night, we walked in and it was loud and busy and tables were barely 1m apart. We were seated at the end of a row so initially wasn’t too bad but immediately we decided, eat quick and let’s go... order was taken swiftly, staff were efficient. We ordered, Salmon for me, Lamb for my husband. Food was average. Then we left. Paying was disorganised, I stood outside whilst my husband paid as it was too congested. Hand sanitizer by the door but the menus were being re used, tables too close and flies everywhere, presumably because it was so humid / stuffy.

Was so looking forward to lunch out with my friend but sadly the food was not as good as normal. The food arrived cold and the sauce was like water. My friends food was cold too and her steak wasn’t tender.They did replace our food and it was better second time but still not the usual standard.I have been going to this restaurant for years and the food has always been excellent but I was very disappointed today.I would also say the tables were too close as the person behind me brushed my chair when sitting down so not a metre apart.Really enjoyed being in the lovely restaurant and seeing my friend but things need to change before I will go back.

FABULOUS! We recently visited San Marco for a family meal to celebrate our son’s birthday. We were greeted with a wonderful warm welcome by the owner Guilio and his dedicated team. All the food was delicious, my steak was utterly mouth watering, my husband’s lamb was divine and the pasta dishes and pizzas were excellent. There is an amazing wine list to suit every palate too. The service is fantastic, the staff are very professional and attentive, nothing was too much trouble- service with a smile. We felt very safe at San Marco, the dining tables are social distanced appropriately, the floor was clearly marked, the hand sanitisers are available, the menus are single use, our waiter took our order at a social distance. San Marco have got it right, the ambiance and atmosphere was delightful whilst we all felt safe. Thank you for a wonderful experience and we all can’t wait to return soon.

We just called in on Sunday afternoon, the place looked lovely and clean the tables were all well placed. There had been some implementation of things to make you feel safe re the COVID 19. We found the staff to be very friendly and very efficient, the food was delicious. Looking forward to going there again.

This was our first visit to San Marco’s since the start of lockdown. Myself and my wife are both key workers and have been operating under very strict health & safety stipulations for the last eighteen weeks. We were both quite nervous about eating out and how the restaurant would interpret and implement government guidelines but from the moment we stepped through the doors we were made to feel safe, welcomed and at ease. The expected sanitation stations, floor marking, disposable menus, protective screens and restrictions around the bar we’re all in place but it was the subtle measures that impressed me the most. The regular cleaning by the floor staff, the distancing measures, the changes to the way the waiters served the meals and the proactive attentiveness of everyone at the restaurant made us feel safe whilst not negatively impacting on our enjoyment of the meal, the atmosphere or the overall experience of eating at such an excellent establishment.As always, the food was of an extremely high standard with no notable restrictions to their extensive menu. The staff were knowledgeable when advising on the compatibility of wines to our selected courses and the friendly, warm atmosphere they created would definitely encourage me to return.A wonderful meal. Just what we needed.

Rang to enquire whether any changes have been implemented re layout and service before making a booking. We have visited the restaurant on a number of occasions living in the adjacent village.Call was taken by a lady who seemed unable to understand our concerns and indicated no changes were being considered and they fully Covid compliant and no complaints had been received. Referred to numerous concerns being raised and the response was what do you want me to say. I suggested that advise re changes so we would feel safe would be helpful.Got nowhere advised that in the circumstances we did not feel comfortable making a booking. The response was to advise in an off hand manner that they are fully booked for the next 3 months. Obviously we will eat elsewhere

I refer to government guidance - working safely during coronavirus 23rd July 2020 section 2.1 keeping customers and visitors safe. This recommends the steps usually needed as follows - consider the number of customers that can follow social distancing of 2m (as a restaurant without masks this cannot be mitigated to 1m) - tables are too close - about 1m - presumably to maximise profits; managing queues - no markings which meant customers queued at the door too close to each other until seated; making customers aware of limits upon entry - no; considering a one way system to manage congested areas - although this would have been possible, the restaurant had not employed this so people were far too close when passing through pinch points near the entrance and till; using social distancing reminders - only one poster is up on entry and there are no floor markings on the restaurant floor itself; providing disposable items or providing cleaning in between use - tablecloths were changed but no cleaning of tables of chairs or condiments took place between customers. As a customer, I did not feel safe and I feel for the waiters and other staff who were constantly far too close to each other. Frankly, I am appalled.
