San Carlo Fiorentina in Oldham

We dined here on a Saturday evening in early November with a family of four. The menu had lots of interesting options with lots of things I would’ve liked to have chosen which is always a good sign. We had cocktails for starters which were delicious and then the food came and it was delicious. All our meals tasted and felt authentically Italian, which is sometimes a rare thing in the UK. This would’ve definitely been a five star experience if we had not all thought it was a little overpriced.

Beautiful surroundings for a relaxing family meal. Good food, good service, warm friendly staff. Nothing was an issue, would recommend to anyone wanting a pleasant afternoon or evening.

Staff are arrogant and not friendly especially the Italian guys

A rather pleasant atmosphere here. A wonderful place to mark my son's birthday. The grilled seafood and steak were simply divine, and the pasta was quite delicious. The staff were most helpful and courteous. You are bound to have a delightful dining experience here.

Quick lunch, great restaurant with free parking right outside.

Of all the San Carlos, this is our favourite. The staff are amazing, always so friendly and accommodating. The food is out of this world. Always hot, fresh and tastes incredible.

This is obviously a restaurant purely for hotel guests, not local people like ourselves. The service was poor and food not as good as other San Carlo restaurants we have been to. When we were served our main course the waiter literally threw them down onto the table, and no waiters came to top up our wine glasses which you would expect from this standard of restaurant. It was very disappointing.

We were a party of four adults and two children (aged two and seven). The food and service was excellent. They couldn't have been more welcoming. An unexpected birthday cake and cheery song from staff and family....just wonderful!! Luigi was incredible, especially with the children, which totally made our evening. Thank you! We will be back again soon.

Well where do I start! I booked the Marriot hotel on a whim the day of the visit so all cases were packed. I spoke to the lady on reception upwards of 3 times to discuss our reservation as we were actually not on the system due to a frankly shocking double booking system (as explain by the lady on the phone). Our reservation then got pushed back to 9pm. Upon arriving at the restaurant at 9pm to be turned away due to a dress code which was not explained on any of the previous phone calls (again this was all booked after the cases were packed) I then explained to the lady and very rude bouncer we didn't have any formal wear packed, the bouncer then proceeded to 'escort' us out of the restaurant. All I can say is... 1) Don't book online or in person because both systems are as unreliable as each other. 2) Rude staff and even ruder bouncer. Who will quite frankly look at you like you are mud on the bottom of their shoe. 3) It's a restaurant in a 3.8 star hotel not the Ritz. Ps. To the team in the restaurant we ate in the brassiere, staff so polite and received a hefty tip from us!!! Maybe take a leaf from their book!!!

Visited the night prior to getting a flight. We were a party of 4 including my 4 year old daughter. The food, drinks and service were simply excellent! It doesn't seem like this is a restaurant that aims to cater towards children, but Luigi made us all feel so welcome. Despite being clearly very busy, he made extra time to visit our table and be part time waiter, part time entertainer! Luigi was one of the most friendly, skilled and passionate members of waiting staff I have ever encountered in the restaurant industry! I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

Came here as a group of 21 for work dinner. We opted for their 3-course menu and pre-ordered our meal. Service was great throughout. Friendly and attentive. They even had our order printed out on name cards. Mine was Carpaccio di Manzo, Branzino San Carlo, and Torta Setteveli. Food and drink came out at reasonable time. The food was ok. Everything went smoothly and we enjoyed the night. Thank you San Carlo!

If Erling Haaland has eaten here, why would t you? This is a lovely Italian restaurant with a mix of local and hotel guests. The manager is a gregarious and engaging host. Portions sizes and quality are what you would expect from the outside. Atmosphere is classy and yet relaxed. Table service was slow, but efficient and accurate. Our bruschetta appetizer lacked flavour and was uninspired. The chicken and prawn main dish was rich and creamy and well prepared. Please note that you are advised to book ahead as it can be very busy.

My wife and I recently enjoyed dinner at San Carlo whilst staying at the Delta Hotel. We hadn't booked before check in but were accommodated and seated pretty much immediately and menus given. The menu is varied with plenty of choice across the board. My wife ordered a pasta dish whilst I enjoyed a steak (cooked and seasoned perfectly). Service was very good throughout our dinner and we both enjoyed our food.

Lovely time - dinner with two of my adult children. Well looked after all evening in the restaurant. Food and service excellent- will be back. Only downside was lack of parking at the hotel - it was very full (even the overflow). Not the restaurant’s fault - but a real problem. I assume excess parking caused by long stay airport parking ? Need to keep an eye on this.

We visited San Carlo Hale for my daughter's 18th birthday party. I need to start by saying that the food was absolutely exquisite, cooked to perfection and I commend the chefs and the team for that, I honestly rate it top tier! The disappointment was the service we received at the table. It was a mess and the waiters were ill tempered and frankly, rude. They assumed how I wanted my steak cooking (which was wrong, so it went back), the plates were being thrown around and because the waiters were getting things wrong, they seemed to be taking their frustrations out on us! They clearly do not welcome kids at this restaurant and seemed annoyed that we had children with us, even though we had pre-booked and pre-ordered our meals in advance. A couple of the staff were literally looking down their noses at us, like we were a bad smell! This was a table of 20, spending a fair bit of money, paying their wages I might add. We are by no means amongst the high rolling A-List celebs they have photos of plastering their walls, which cheapens the place by the way, but we were all dressed well, behaved well and tipped well - despite this let down! So I am baffled as to why we were treated this way. On departing, I didn't hear a single thank you or good bye! I need to add that the bar staff were completely different. The 2 young ladies at the bar were friendly, polite and smiling - I suggest the waiting staff take a leaf from their book! I spend a reasonable amount of money at San Carlo, in Alderley Edge, on a regular basis, and receive impeccable service and friendly banter with the staff there. It goes without saying, I'll be sticking with them in future. I really do hate leaving bad reviews, and seldom do, but this was my girls 18th birthday party, and she left feeling pretty deflated. It was I who suggested San Carlo, and I now wish I didn't.

Visited San Carlo for my birthday and had a lovely time Food was excellent.The portions were good and the service was also good.We asked to be moved to a different table and we were moved no questions asked. Luigi the manager made our visit enjoyable and his hospitality added to make the visit to San Carlo a memorable day.

I’m a Regular here. Normally A* service however, this time was barely greeted just looked up and down by the “host” Anna. Who then argued with us about our table time and called us liars about calling in and changing our booking time. Turns out our reservation had been checked in by mistake before we arrived that’s why the staff couldn’t find it. She was so rude, argumentative and unwelcoming. Don’t appreciate it at all ! I wouldn’t want her on my restaurant front door - She puts the customers off. The other young lady however was so lovely, gave us a gorgeous table so thank you to her x

We had a wonderful meal here, the night before our Italian holiday with our children (5 & 2 years old) we were made to feel welcome and the manager Luigi had a wonderful, endearing and engaging way with our children. The food was delicious (as always) and it was one of the nicest family meals we’d had in a long time. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. We will definitely be back. Thank you Luigi and Nico!

Beautiful decor despite being in an ugly red brick Marriott. Lovely booths and soft furnishings. We were a birthday party of 11. Service at the bar just ok don’t expect a smile but passable. I last ate at the SC in Manchester and had dreadful service so said I would never go to the chain again- thus this wasn’t my choice. Menu choice was great, arancini was fabulous, calamari okay, ribs decent. I had the tuna main and it was clearly on the turn, it stank. I couldn’t, and didn’t, eat it. No one checked on us so there was no opportunity to raise it mid meal and I didn’t want to cause a fuss as it was a celebration so thought I’d raise it when plates were cleared. My full plate was cleared with no comment other than would I like a dessert. Sides were over priced and nothing to write home about. Wouldn’t visit again and wouldn’t recommend.

Wow what a beautiful decor and lovely restaurant for an airport staff were very nice food was delicious, I had the breakfast which was cooked to perfection and reasonably priced too.

Not good at all - well over priced and very very average!! Nobody finished their meal

Possibly the worst service I've ever experienced. Took about 15 minutes to take the first drinks order once seated. Staff where rude and acted like we weren't welcome there. Food was honestly underwhelming, carbonara was made with streaky bacon and not pancetta which overpowered the dish. Staff didn't bother to check if everything was okay and we had to go to the bar to ask for more drinks twice. Both times two members of staff where polishing glasses behind the bar. Would recommend going to the hotel restaurant as we went there the night before and it was much better.

I have been many times and enjoyed my times in there however our visit last time was really disappointed for us we have booked our table and arrive earlier incase and we stood at the door waiting someone to say hi and no one even said hi so a lady came over after 15-20 mins stood on the door asking if we have booked and i said yes than she said our table is not ready yet they are waiting for tables which is fine than after 5 mins she said we can wait at the bar no one ask if we would like drinks or something after waiting 10 mins at the bar i have to go and order a drink at the bar i was pointed that we booked why our table is not ready and she was blaming me that i am early instead of apologise for us wait more than 20 mins for table which passed the time we booked table … food arrive and nothing was special burnt steak like rock hard such a shame for fillet steak ruined like that i only enjoyed my wine which is delivered by suppliers to them without being discriminated all staff member just walking around moody and not even bothering to say hi to customers for this kind of restaurant it is just shocking i think managers or owners of this restaurant really need to sort this place out i used to love there but won’t be going back again …

A really disappointing experience to be honest. Arrived and waited a few minutes for a member of staff to greet me, no-one making eye contact. Asked to sit at the table and was requested to sit at the bar whilst our table was prepared. Taken through a few minutes later for a 7pm booking for 3 and there are many empty fully prepared tables so unsure why I could t have been seated. My friends arrived, we ordered water and wine. We then got the wine and ordered water again as it hadn’t turned up whilst ordering the meal. The meal turned up and we ordered the water for a third time. Our plates were taken and we had to say “for the 4th time, can we have some water before you do anything else please?”. This time, it was the head waiter (I think) who called himself the “Ferrari” of the team and joked it off. Great - hottest day of the year and we haven’t had any water for over an hour since arriving. To be fair, the food was nice. £200 + £25 tip - If I was on my own I wouldn’t have tipped. Shame really, as I lived in Hale Barns in the 80s when this place was the place to be but I won’t be returning.

We visited for our anniversary. Love the decor in the restaurant, luxury but casual. Staff are all friendly, if not a tad too friendly! We had the calamari & bruchetta to start both were delicious, baked shellfish and steak for main, both great, only thing with the bakes shellfish is it goes cold quite quickly and as there is alot of removing shells it makes it unpleasant to eat half of the dish. Steak was great as were the fries

Visited this venue for a special anniversary because we thought it would be the same as Manchester. How wrong could we be! Had better food and service at Pizza Express! Won’t be returning!!

Subpar service, marginal food. The atmosphere is beautiful and with the right team this place could be stellar. The service was abysmal. The Carbonara tased like it came from a boxed frozen meal.

Just love the environment, high end yet relaxed. Broad menu choice, staff just get attentive right. My favourite San Carlo so far!

The restaurant is really a special place unfortunately the staff are not. They made us all feel uncomfortable, and as if we were in the way. It's not a place I would like to go back to.

Six of us for dinner , Service so so as once again new untrained staff . Food was mediocre ,small portions and totally overpriced Have use this restaurant for many years but it will be a long time before we visit again . There are far better places to eat locally and are much better value for money . For now Goodbye San Carlo

Lovely crispy fish and portions are good

Atmosphere is wonderful as this is a restaurant that is frequented by celebrities and sporting stars! When it comes to food, olive is good, calamari was ok, spaghetti de mari was salty. The grilled seafood that served in a copper pan was an eye catcher but we were served with spoiled seafood! One of the clams has black stuff that leaded out when we opened it; and the langostines were rotten with fouled smell! Fortunately the manager’s was apologetic and his attitude was very professional. We understand that seafood gets spoiled easily, what most important to us is how the restaurant deals with such. In this case, San Carlo lives it to its high standard!

Incredibly disappointed at the level service from staff at San Carlo Hale. Family and close friends were there to celebrate my mother’s birthday. On receiving my first drink, my glass was filthy, and had to ask for another glass, no apology given. Not a good start. Then they forgot to give me my starter, receiving it about 15 minutes after everybody else had eaten. The staff were not attentive, you get better service at a fast food outlet no kidding. I have no problem with the food at San Carlo Hale this is the only positive I can give them.The service charge is about 12% of the bill. We didn’t pay that they didn’t deserve it. And I won’t be spending another penny at this establishment in the future.

Visited and initial thoughts were, very nice place , however food was average, overpriced for pasta, and to top it off they wouldn't accept our gift card. (was a present that we had been unable to use) we weren't aware there was an expiry date as it was a gift. Customer service not interested in complaint. First and last visit. Still waiting of a response to the email I sent to the owner

It would have got another star but for the fact my daughter in law fell down the step leaving as it was so dark you could not see ahead so could not see the step, this needs lights around the area.

Visited San Carlo today with a group of friends and was so disappointed with the service we received. The staff payed no attention to us and were incredibly slow at taking our order but seemed to have time for other guests. On our way out I overheard the manger speak about us in Italian to the bar staff not knowing I spoke Italian. Would never return and wouldn't recommend this San Carlo.

Really nice place to go for a birthday dinner or celebration. I went there for my granddaughters 22nd birthday. Food was ok not blown away.staff were lovely. Made my 7 year old granddaughter happy. My daughter and granddaughter had the spicy vegetarian penne pasta they said it was nice. There really wasn't a lot on the menu for vegetarians maybe make more dishes available? I had the lasagna it was ok had better had worse. My son and grandson had rump steaks with veggies and chips steak wasn't very big well not for a man. I'm not being picky or anything as I know people rave about this place and loads of celebrities go. But this is just my opinion. In a nutshell it's ok but it's not as good as people say. Best part about it were the staff they were lovely.

Very loud and crowded. I had a reservation and was seated promptly. Then I waited 25 minutes for service. After finishing my meal, I waited again (30 minutes) for my check. I was a table of one and really felt ignored and as if I was an inconvenience. Larger tables received much better service.

Had a lovely experience at San Carlo Fiorentina. The staff were very cheerful and welcoming upon arrival, the atmosphere was lovely and the interior is gorgeous. The food really was the star of the show. We had the San Carlo antipasti which was a charcuterie style combination of breaded fried goats cheese, mozzarella, salami Milano, prosciutto crudo, mortadella, etc. on a bed of rocket, with artichoke and thin crispy bread. We also indulged in the seafood mains, namely the Dover sole main and the mix of grilled shellfish. Both were very delicious and light, and perfectly seasoned. Overall it was an amazing night, the only slight downside we found was that one of the waiters was a bit grumpy and made us feel like we are a bother for being there and ordering food but we all have bad days so we didn’t let it affect our lovely evening, and the rest of the staff were all very lovely.

Food wasn't the best by a long shot ,overpriced and mediocre ! We had been gifted £50 for a present, which this lot decided to pocket and not honour the gift card . Low ball trick ! The Italian sounding waiter had a strong salford accent in the foyer LOL . I would never return ,ive had far better food for a lower price. ITS DEFINITELY NOT ALL THAT !!!!

We when to San carlo hale tonight Food great but service terrible especially bar service, son was 21 no happy birthday despite saying that on booking, order drinks 20 minutes for a glass of tap water, wine came no lemonade they had to check order why would I order a drink I don’t like further 10 minutes to come, more like they wanted to check they had charged £3.75 for the lemonade. Not once were we asked if everything ok and do we need anything very disappointed with what was a special night thanks don’t think I will be coming back anytime soon

Arrived late at the restaurant for a light dinner and some drinks. We managed to get a table without prior booking. Restaurant has a luxurious and vibrant atmosphere. Food arrived very quickly. I had the pumpkin ravioli and thoroughly enjoyed it. Partner had the Carbonara and also rated this highly. Waiting staff were friendly and passed regularly to refill drinks and ensured we were happy with food. Would highly recommend.

Great waiters and amazing service!

Visited here today and highly disappointed with how the staff treated us. Tall man (waiter) was being so rude and didn’t bother to come and take our order for about 20 minutes and was straight up mean, he didn’t even pay attention to when we asked for the bill, he said okay and did not come back until we went and asked some else to give it to us and quite frankly the food was cold and undercooked, and we couldn’t even give a review as the staff didn’t bother at all.NEVER GOING BACK.

It seemed to be good but i couldn’t even try the food cuz they never came to the table until i decided to leave. I spend 15 min or more waiting on my table and i was really hungry but i decided to leave at the end, imagine if it took them so long just to go say hi, how long would it be to make an order and what can u spect from the service. Finally once they saw me leaving somebody came and said “apologys, is never too late” well it is, this already destroyed all my interest on the restaurant, terrible service, since i arrived until i left, even the host that “helped” was really rude, i asked for a table and she answered with a “ill see what i have” and gave me a tottally different table on the other side of the restaurant, and it was empty only few tables were ocupied. I worked on restaurants for years, and being on customer service for 8 years or more and as my personal advice, this is not a great eviroment for u, dont waste your time… I went on sunday 21, around 8pm.

It was so nice out to the San Carlo on Sunday, the food and the atmosphere were terrific, however the service was a little slow, however the overall experience was very enjoyable 👍

Its been a great lunch again with San Carlo, food are all extremely good as usual and service is also at his best too. Best choice for celebrations! Will definitely coming back again soon.

San Carlo is a great place normally but was not great on this occasion and perhaps that was because it was Christmas week. A disappointing moment for my guests and I was hearing a staff member whinging about not having enough staff as we sat down. Prawn starter represents very poor value and presentation, veal escalope very thin and burnt around the edges. Desserts were dull and smaller than in the past. Having been given cloakroom tickets we had to rummage through the wardrobe on leaving to find our coats ,one of which was on the floor. Overall the evening was disappointing and not cheap at an average of £85 per head. For me it's a special place for special occasions but lost it's edge on this occasion

We were initially quite impressed with the look of the restaurant and staff. The service was as expected and friendly but the food was bland and overpriced. Not once during our two course meal did the waiting staff ask how we found the food. The service was perfunctory. The food sadly didn't match the atmosphere.

My review is a little different, this morning due to crazy traffic 1:40min ( normally 25 min) to get to Manchester Airport hertz to drop my rental car running seriously late and hertz being the worst EVER I was panicking as the shuttle bus was another 20 min and a total stranger said come on I’ll bring the car round and take you WOW it turned out to be Pete the head chef and if you can be this kind to total stranger he must be amazing (on another note have eaten many times in that central Manchester branch and it is amazing ) THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH PETE ! you put my faith back …..

When we arrived we were seated behind the cast of Shameless. Irish travellers drinking shouting even punching at one point, we bared it through the starters then asked for the bill. The waiter moved us to another table so we didn’t leave, there we thought everything would improve, but the food wasn’t the best, it was very salty and we left disappointed.

Amazing Authentic Italian Food.

Great that we had a nice meal before departing for holidays. Had a nice vibe to restaurant. Food was nice, and children enjoyed theirs even though no children’s portions on pizzas etc. Wine selection was excellent.

Visited San Carlo for my daughter's 5th birthday. Not the first time coming so we expected great things as per usual. However, the food was majorly disappointing. The garlic bread was extremely salty, as was the pasta dishes. It really wasn't great. The prawn cocktail and the bruschetta was lovely, I recommend those dishes. I wasn't a fan of the pizza, too much sauce for me. Just a personal preference. One thing I will comment on is the service. It was amazing. Everyone was so welcoming and attentive. The atmosphere was great and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. It was just the saltiness that let it down.

Beautiful italian restaurant with warm atmosphere and really tasty food! Unfortunately i couldn't find there british beer.

Went for a business dinner. Food was okay but nothing special given the hype that surrounds San Carlo. Pricing is not great you will over pay. I don’t know if due to the larger sized table there was an impact on the service but multiple times asked for drinks and never came through and completely forgot my dessert order. Overall I was excited to try this place but like most hyped up places this felt average, living off past glories. Not for me again.

Reasonable food at reasonable price. Staff got me a wrong wine, but she was apologetic and changed it as soon as I told her so. Parking is difficult especially if you have an SUV.

Food is reasonable. I was almost thinking I was having a pretty good saltimbocca in a proper Italian restaurant until I realized I’d be charged 6.25 GBP for a basket of bread. Granted: it’s a nice basket with different type of breads from all over Italy, but if You charge that much for bread back home, You’d soon be having many empty tables Good quality food but way overpriced Some of the staff is Italian, most is locals trying (unsuccessfully) to look like if they were - brown cheap shoes on a black suit?!? We usually visit this restaurant with friends & family and enjoy the experience, however came this evening and couldn't have been more disappointed. After making a reservation over a month ago and booked the Marriott hotel (adjoined). We weren't acknowledged on arrival, the whole place seemed like bedlam. Staff couldn't cope with the sheer volume of customers. Our food arrived - cold and we ordered a medium fillet steak which arrived rare. We waited between 5-10 minutes to be acknowledged after waving to get over 6 staff member's attention. The food was taken away & came back exactly the same however slightly warmer. We ordered king prawns for starters however 4 prawns for £11 certainly did not feel like value for money. We weren't offered a dessert or more drinks. Nobody asked if we were ok or whether we would like anything else. Everyone around us was complaining and the atmosphere was chaos. This meal was for a special occasion and nothing about it was 'special'. We sadly won't be rushing back. They overbooked & it appeared greedy as the staff could not accommodate the sheer volume of customers which made us feel very sorry for them. All in all extremely disappointing and overpriced.
